Tera was like that with the normal community before f2p.that was the reason I left..they kept going about calling people paedo's ,rapists and swearing every 2 seconds..one of the worst in any mmo I have played that's for sure...but I suppose you get those abusive people in most games.

I logged into star trek the other day with a new char ..no sooner had I logged in I got ordered by someone to help them with the words I need help,do it now or fuck off...unbelievable.i don't know what he expected me to do with no lvling to my name lol.

Funny how that is all I heard about Tera and its community, but i played it for a bit and it didnt seem any different than any other mmo chat Ive encountered.  Maybe it was my server, i dunno.  It was a grindy, themepark but chat was no different than most.

You may be asking, "what about damage mitigation?"  Well this is where Blizzard really turned the screws on us by giving all characters 65% resilience regardless of gear.   This makes tank specs and PvE tank gear the only viable way to dramatically enhance damage mitigation (through dodge & block).

 

Well at least we can go tank spec for PvP if we want better damage mitigation, right?   You can but in their infinite wisdom, Blizz has also decided to implement a debuff that significantly increases the amount of damage taken by tank spec'd characters in battlegrounds.

 

I understand that Blizz wants to normalize PvP gear to make it more about skill but don't give PvE players a distinct advantage in the process.   Also, if I want skill based PVP, there are plenty of non-sub options out there.

Point is, if you didn't have good reaction time/skill when you were young you likely won't have it when old either. 40-50 can still be relative prime time in one's life if you keep healthy and practice fundamental skills.  The real issue is that people tend to stop practicing the basics (be it sports or video games) or playing as much as they used to. Of course you get slower and out of practice. 

 

I don't believe it when people say "I don't have time for that anymore!". That is a huge load of bullshit. People judge me all the time for being in great shape at my age and still playing sports (typically volleyball and mma currently) and think I have all the time in the world. I only require about 5 hours of active exercise a week to keep in prime shape (the rest is lifestyle choices). Most people waste more time watching TV or playing video games.

 

My suggestion is (if you were once good) practice and stop being a lazy ass unless you truly have no interest in it anymore. Hand/eye coordination translates over anything you do. You don't have to play video games to be good at video games. You can go out and train your body and mind doing other things and boost performance for everything across the board.

 

Also the secret to being great at something isn't reaction time. I have competed against better natural athletes than myself and defeated them. True skill comes from athletic intelligence which is more or less the same thing as video game intelligence. This is why many athletes get better with age or maintain their competitiveness past their physical prime. Smarter is often better than raw physical skill.

Playing video games is a waste of time but volleyball isnt? Alrighty then...

ill agree that the community can be very terrible at times. I must point out that you CANT be banned for bad game play, you may get rage reports from players but those reports will never make it past tribunal to be considered for player banning.

 

Also DO NOT spend money to buy champions as htiger23 suggests. IP is easy to get and can be used to buy any champion. Runes are very important and will be replaced quickly as you level up.

I think spending IP on T1 runes and T3 runes is the way to go but many champs are like 6300 IP, that IP is better saved for runes.  I think its just fine to spend some cash on champs. But I definitely suggest trying them out during their free week before being bought.  

To the OP, the game isnt to noob friendy.  It has a giant learning curve and an ill tempered community.  Bot games are the way to go to learn mechanics and such.  Fortunately, once you have a grasp of the game, it is incredibly rewarding PvP experience.  Just master the understanding of the game prior to solo quein regs.  

i think it would be a great setting for an mmo.  Instead of making a Skyrim mmo it would be better to be a TES mmo.  They could use all the lore n story from previous ES games.  Any IP can become an mmo, but I believe that  TES series would be great.  Of course many mehanics would have to be dropped, changed and many more added.  But as an IP, I dont think there would be a much better one.  There are already many races with great dislike for each other.  Some have enslaved others, over took others lands etc.  Its already perfectly set up for Realm v Realm v Realm.

Ya.  Guild Wars was a great suggestion.  If he was LF a game that is quick to endgame(insta 20 PvP) and dual classing mix n match skills.  This is his game.

Outside of the of the playerbase/community there isnt much I dislike about LoL.  I just wish they would introduce new maps for classic.  Not a new mode like dominion(which I personally dislike).  I would imagine that it is not that hard to create variations of 3 lane maps. At least not as hard as developing new "balanced" champs as often as they do.  But I guess there is more money in champs than maps.

Unless you like soloing in a MMO, Id stray from it.  WoW's questing areas are desolate.  Its a lobby game now.  LFD, LFR killed the feeling of being in an active, living world.  Its pretty much down to everyone sitting in the capital city showing off their new shiny and staring at trade trolls.

SWTOR is supposed to have a good story.  And Im sure that your decisions shape your story to an extent.,I dunno from 1st hand experience though.    I stopped with MMOs for a bit and got Skyrim.  Its incredible, but Im also looking around for a MMO experience as well.  WoWs gear grind and LFG LFR made me LFNewGame.

I stopped playing mmorpgs and turned to LoL for a while as well.  Its great fun and a very pure form of PvP.  But, MOBA communities are generally horendous and intolerable.  Which led me away from the genre(unless I need a quick PvP fix).  The thing that I enjoyed most about MMOs was exploration, team work and community.  Unfortunately, I havnt found an MMO lately that has those. 

I dont care so much about the "blingy blingy Look at my Shiny" kinda gear grindy system and unfortunately thats all Ive experienced lately. I realize that an MMO is really what you make of it, but not all lemons can be turned into lemonade.

They are ok, but I prefer my condiments without bugs.

I am not "hardcore" in comparison to the "real hardcores", so I do not mind not being a "top player" or the best of the best. I have a family and a job so my goal isnt to be one either. I do enjoy both PvE and PvP and as long as you find a group of like minded individuals to play with then your experience will be fulfilling.  But I do find the jobless wonders of the world who play 50+hrs a week to be a little disturbed.

Ya, a good investment too because a gaming mouse is a plus for those with two capable hands as well.
