I like to make good use of /Block  features and also /leave gen chat or channel 1 /leave trade in most mmorpg's is must do right as I log its the only fix for not seeing asshats. Ingame chat is pretty uselss as it performs nothing.

I love the chat they have in DayZ, you can only view or hear people in your direct area, which is very small. I think that would work great in a MMORPG.

General chat in games is just a safe haven for self proclaimed messiahs that gain followers as they let diaherria dribble out into the chat channels which spreads like a virus. Just like forums. Shit talking has always been for people with low self esteem to make them feel better about themselves since the beginning of time and will never go away. The internet just allows it to used alot more readily since people are hiding behind their devices.

All species do it, if one member is screaming about something it will keep screaming until the alpha member goes over and smacks the hell out of it or until a group beats the piss out of it together. This can not happen over the internet, so this is what we get.

The sandbox genre is DYING for a good, well made, solid MMO,where your avatar is an actual person.

Eve is a good game, but I dont want to be a little space ship floating around in space.I want to be a humanoid running around on a planet.Im pulling for this game,if its anywhere near solid and well made,it'll take off as a hit.

That said, yes, once a company nails that proverbial sandbox G-spot,all the big boys will be jumping in to get a peice of that action.Maybe one of the big boys (Blizzard,EA,Trion,Sony,Turbine..etc) will be the one to do it,I think it'd be awesome if it was some small unknown company like a CCP.

But once there is a hit,I believe it'll be big and other companies will follow suit.

I don't know, I just was reading more on the game and found out its F2P. That is putting a huge gamble on attracting a player base that would aid them in making the game fun. If they attract too many of the griefer types the game could go down in flames. Its all up to the players to what the game will be like in sandbox games.

Might give this a try, see their take on a sandbox/hybrid shooter. Sounds like they are trying to make a SWG game. Never liked SWG or scifi games much but it looks like it deserves a try. Looks like they are leaving it up to the community to deside its own fate, lets hope they are up for the task. Griefers huddled around the safe zones will kill the game, any kind of tatical warfare would make it fun.

In the end it will be the players who make or break the game like all sandbox style games.

Your poll only has one right answer and it would be depends on the game.

DayZ hacked?
General Discussion « DayZ
6/29/12 2:57:15 PM

I got killed by a hacker 1 time so far, heard a loud higher pitch long beeeeeeeeep then flew in the air pretty high and died when I hit the ground, I had just started the guy so it wasnt that bad of a loss. I think everyone died on the server.

I threw a smoke bomb in a small 2 story warehouse building and the building collapsed on me lol. Pretty sure thats not a hack but it was a funny bug that I didn't know existed.

I'll start off with the definition of the word from here http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/innovation

Definition of INNOVATION

1

: the introduction of something new
2
: a new idea, method, or device

How, as players, do we want a game to be innovative?

Do we even know what we want?

How do you find it?

Is rehashing an old idea with your own twist considered innovative?

Is there a set number of innovative idea's or feature's that need to be implemented to actually be considered an innovative game?

Who in the end desides if an idea in a game is innovative?

I see alot of threads in many of the game forums with this word in alot of posts but was wondering about these questions and is innovation just an opinion. To me its a mystery. I'm not sure what I want, or how a game could be innovative. All I do know is that I want the game to be fun and fun is not innovative its been around a long time.

More on topic: As for the quote, I can see it is part of a larger statement,

You can't sell ham sandwiches to people that have been eating ham sandwiches every day for the last decade.  Spicy mustard or miracle whip doesn't make your ham sandwich any more special then the other guys, and people are getting tired of eating your ham sandwiches.  A little olive loaf every now and then isn't a bad thing.

Everything they're doing has already been talked up by countless other companies.  There's nothing you can say at this point that people won't see through.  Just shut up, develop it - you obviously don't care what any of the ES fans think - release it, and let it fall into the pit of mediocrity with every other themepark MMO that isn't WoW.

lol.

and at the deli next door you had a sandwich with a different tasty kind of bread on it and you walk into his store and he tells you that you dont want that kind of bread and besides its not really possible on a sandwich anyway

So Im guessing that putting a slice of cheese on that sandwich is Too Hard?

only if the sandwhich was built with cheese in mind from the start. Otherwise, it would just feel like a tacked on feature meant to appeal to a niche crowd...A delicious tacked on feature...

Im hungry now after all this sandwich talk.

Considering the bad feedback the game is getting, don't expect the official forums any time soon.

I believe Zenimax went in damage control mode,.

They are taking some time off the limelight to rethink some of the basics.

A TES game that plays like WoW is definetly not the impression you wanna give to the crowd, but that's what most people perceived.

Pretty much. Once the Official Forums go live, I would expect the levels of QQ that have never been seen before. Well almost.

I personally think you're going to see a rather empty forum, with the only the same small handfull of people who really don't care about playing the same game over and over posting on them.

They'll be modding out every bit of negativety they come across once the official forums go up.

And I wouldn't be suprised if they tout on about how many people registered forum accounts with them either, in an effort to spin some sort of good news about the game; no matter how irrelevant it is.

Good I hope so. What games don't. Trolls are free to run rampant here so this is where most end up. Most mods only take out the useless banter that people like to post up that has no meaning to the game. So when you (not you just saying in general) get banned, there is probably a good reason.

I'm not talking about trolling though, but legitimate critism.

Most people are NOT happy with what they've heard about the game.  The majority respoonce so far has been negative.  ZeniO is not going to want a forum full of negative critique about the game for the next year leading up to release, and that's pretty much what they'll get.

Forums are your early word of mouth advertise.  They aren't going to want people going to the official one and seeing that most of the people posting there aren't happy with what they're doing with the game; that means lots of heavy moderation.

The small handfull of you that have no problem with an ES MMO that is just another typical MMO would not have a problem with an ES MMO that is made more like any other ES RPG.  Most of you guys played one of the ES games, and probably enjoyed it.  Why settle for less of a game?

I enjoyed Skyrim yes, but I got bored playing it after awhile. I think your making assumptions that most people are unhappy. I tend to think that most people don't care one bit, they just want a fun game to play. If you think a majority of people that actually play games post on forums like this one, your diluted.

I hate to break it to everyone all excited about another IP being made into an MMO. It's not going to be what you want. It's going to be your favorite IP slathered over a WoW base..with some sort of twist so they can say it's innovative. You heard it here first.

I hate to break it to you but all MMO with Battlegrounds apart from WOW failed miserably, so it is not essential for any MMO, let alone a TES one.

...and which ones with open world PvP have done any better?

The same argument, as in the red, could be made for any kind of PvP in any MMORPG.

Especially a TES one, which by rights should be PvP free right from the start.

The focus of PvP in these games has turned the gaming culture of them into a cesspit.

I didn't say that open PvP is the solution, but certainly suits TES better.

I was  answering those people who think that not having instance battlegrounds is a sacrilege, when in fact none of the recent AAA MMOs with battlegrounds has been a success.

If it was me I would make TESO just PvE only...........but I know it ain't gonna happen, so I accept there will be some  PvP.

I just hope there won't be none of that instanced PvP crap (Arena, battlegrounds).

For me is game breaking. I am not gonna buy the game if BG or Arenas are in it.

From your previous posts, it looks like you got GW2 and Tera. GW2 has BG's and read some where that Tera is going to implement them soon.

I couldnt care less about graphics (as long as it is 3D and has nice animations for melee like WoW)

But what I hate most about Sandbox MMO, is the FFA PvP and Full Loot/Player Body Looting.

thats the main and only reason.

most Sandbox MMO now days are built for those things I pointed out above.

Thats a major turn off from the start.

with limited PvE, the main focus turns into full on PvP FFA conflict and losing your hard earned rewards to somebody trying to be a butthole.

the Players, more than Bugs, ruin the Sandbox MMO genre.

This is why I am also having doubts about Archeage.

I feel the Players will be the killer of Archeage. not the Launch Bugs.
This isnt Asia. This is NA/Euro. Their Culture is more "Every Man For Them Self" "I Pleasure The Pain Of Others"

this mindset will never make Sandbox MMO fun for the masses with FFA PvP/Corpse looting.

think about it.

I agree here, look how sandbox players act in a forum lol. They could make the most amazing sandbox game ever, and it would fail by the players destroying and griefing out the population. There is only two play style options in a sandbox game, be a thief/murderer or be prey.

Every game has BG's, not much a suprise there as alot of people like that feature in a game. They are all optional though, so what is the problem in a game?

Not every game has BG's.  Not even every MMO.  Not even every MMORPG.  Not even every fantasy MMORPG.  Not even every successful fantasy MMORPG.  Not even every successful AAA fantasy MMORPG.  That's the whole point of the thread.

It isn't that it has or doesn't have BGs, Arenas, Raids, or whathaveyou, it is the "of course" mentality that the devs display, which undercuts them making an MMORPG in the spirit of TES.

"Of course it has hotbar cool-down combat, it's an MMO!" <- This is an example of the MOST wrong and why AAA MMOs are, for the most part, stuck in the "WoW-clone" rut.

What is the spirit of TES? Im sure some other fan would have their own opinion of what the spirit of TES is then you. Who's right?

Is Coke better than Pepsi? I like Coke more so there I win lol :P

You can dance in your chair for all I care. Nobody will probably care because they will look to the next big game announced. The world will not stop for any game.

Not saying it is. But I'm actually hoping ESO is as close to DAOC RvR as we've ever seen from an MMO. Am I the only one who feels this way?

I don't mind that, as long they don't make another WOW clone, but from the first information it looks they are going for the SWTOR route

At least that's what transpires from Matt Fior mouth every time he talks.

3 factions at war doesn't bother me at all.

Me being forced into any of those factions because of the race I pick, not being able to be neutral?  That's not TES and that's not what I want in a TES MMO.

How would you tell if the other person in the 3 faction PvP is on another faction then? If we were all for example dark elves, then which dark elf would I attack?

Uhh..maybe the one with a RED NAME over their head?

Just click TAB a few times. Im sure you will find them

I think it would be better to have each a different race. Gets you more involved then "lets go kill the red team"

edit: Also if both of the other factions were red then how would you form an alliance to take out one side if they are all red?

Put a different color over the other factions head? Like Idk Blue? or Green? Or any of the ther colors they have that you could easily color code to factions.

Im sorry but theres no arguement you can give for locked-races that deny the past decade of pre-built lore that sounds like a solid argument. On top of that you wouldnt say "Lets go kill the red team".

And for that matter what will you say in the game currently with race-locked factions thats so much better?

"Lets go kill those Dunmer, Nord, and Argonians"??? You wouldnt say that either, and I dont see how saying a single phrase to your fellow players once in a great while is relevant enough to deny the lore of the game and lock everyone into linear choices.

I dont understand how everyone can be so short-sighted about this, the game developers are spitting on the fans of the game series, we wont play it, maybe some people on this forum will, and thats fine I wish you luck. But it wont make the game any better defending its bad design choices.

Faction locked races are more interesting then color teams any day of the week. Its that simple.

Sadly, the only winners are cynics and competitors.

But cynics are right far too often. :(

True, its an easier bet. I could really careless if it is a huge success or not, I just hope the game will be fun.

Then show me some proof in numbers to state otherwise, because you certainly don't have any convincing argument spewing from you proverbial back end.

~Or, *you* show *me* numbers that prove Skyrim sold more *new* (not used) console units than PC versions on Steam.

http://www.vgchartz.com/article/88459/skyrim-sales-exceed-34-million-units-in-two-days/

Here are some actual figures, based on  NPD reports.

That's a lot of sales.  14% for PC, down from Oblivion's 18%.  However, that does not account for Steam Sales, which were approximately the same amount (based on Steam's stat-tracking system), bringing in PC to roughly 25%-30% of overall sales (I usually say 25% to be safe).  Not a majority, but a healthy chunk to be sure.

As for sales after the first two days, I imagine as modding became more prevelant, PC's percentage has continued to rise.  The CK was released, many game sites began to actively and regularly profile Skyrim mods  creating a LOT of coross-pollination from the console side.

Im going to throw in the majority of those sales were probably from people not even knowing anything about ES, they just bought it because they saw dragons. This game is being marketed to PC MMO gamers, not to everyone like ES games.

With the amount of hype surrounding Skyrim, both from BGS and the fans?  I'm willing to bet even most first-timers knew it was a big deal.

I agree on your second point, and will add that this is why this game will likely fail (ie: not be very successful).  They are targetting the wrong audience.

Unless you have a crystal ball you can say what ever you like but until it actually hits the market its all speculation.

With IP coming from movies (SWTOR), books (Conan, LOTRO) or even table top games (DDO, WAR), a developer have more room for interpretation, because they don't have another game players can compare it.

TES is not a movie or a book..............it is a game, so people can easily compare the online version with the single player version, and if the two games play differently, then the MMO will get hammered badly by the TES fanbase and the game community in general, regardeless the qualities of the MMO version itself.

I think Zenimax have to think really hard before making a watered down online version of the Tamriel world..............that's all I am saying.

QFT

Yes; you have well thought out intellegent points, you can't have that kind of posts here!!!

World of warcraft wasnt a MMO, it was Warcraft and played differently. When it turned into one it got alot more popular.
