Great read :)

Yup was one of those long standing PS players, but had to stop after the merger that moved the servers just a little too far from NZ, could handle when they where west coast based, as my ping was under 200.

Would love to see them release a more up to date version, as it's one of my longest standing subs I've ever had, plus I think it's one of the few MMO's where I belonged to a good stong clan (WCG).

I'm all for the default setting, gives it the right feel for a super hero's MMO, but there are enough settings that you can give it a more traditional MMO look.

Good read Jon,

I'll be interested to see which of the super hero's games take's off, I really enjoy COH. I'm also hoping the old republic will add something exciting and new to MMO's, that seems to have been a lot of rehashing recently (although some nice polish).

As to WoW I got talked into playing again, and I've finally leveled a character to 80, but I've just ended my subscription, as it just gets to boring after awhile.

Personally I prefer a blend, one of the reasons I like the original SWG system.

Although I'd prefer a slightly more skill based blend on it. Where each class has a set of sills they can learn for little cost, and the further away a skill was the more it cost to learn.

For me it's all about where the MMO's are, and that at present is PC's.

For me graphics and animation go hand in hand, if you go for high end graphics you'd better get the animation right.

One of those things I always find ruins it for me is when a 4+ legged animal has one or more legs above or through the ground plain.

As we get more powerful machines the graphics should start to get more realistic, but the more realistic graphics get the more critical of said graphics we get

As a range damage dealer if the tank stays up right for more than a few heavy hitting spells, I tick them off my list for targets as that usually means they've got a decent healer or 2 backing them up, and no matter what I throw at them they're not going down :).

Although if I get in a good group that calls targets then we'll happily take out Tanks, but definitly requires team work.

I don't think you need to worry too much about not finding people to PvP with as soon as you tag a PvP objective people start turning up

If there's a lot of people your best bet is to get into a big group, speeds up the influence, and means you can help each other if one of ya pulls the final boss

1. AO

2. GW

3. WoW

4. SWG (current version, as original was one of the best)

5. EVE

Hopefully for me more so, I managed to play WoW for all of 1.5 months

Oh and Tasty some of us spend more time reading posts than actually posting, you might wanna look at join date as well.

1) preordering costs $0, so no, you're not paying for anything, or covering the cost of the disc, the packaging, the shipping, and having to pay the retailer to display/distribute this item

2) downloading these days takes a matter of hours. it's not as big of a deal as it was a decade ago when we were all playing everquest and dark age of camelot

Matter of hours? Well, depends. Some downloads can take 7+ hours depending on your internet service. On top of that it can also slow up your internet (as it does in my house) if someone is downloading something. Say what you want but "it is what it is". Quite frankly, when I downloaded Vanguard all I could think of was "god, I wish I had the cd).

I'm with Sovrath on this one.

All the recent Beta's I've been in have had huge downloads involved, and with living in an internet backwater like NZ I've also got caps to worry about.

On a side note SWG was the last Beta I was involved in that sent disks, and they where I nice little momento (sp?).

I think for me it was once I hit level 22ish and got into the meat of the next zone, oh and do so love the barbarian and his finishing moves

Yup, perfect timing for yesterday NZ release, so hopefully I'll get to play tonight, unless they have another release exactly when I get home from work.

Noticed the same thing here, by the time I tried to check out what was up the beta boards where down :(.

Was hoping it'd be fixed in live version.

You've also got to remember both games have a large following outside of the MMO world, so I'd expect to see an influx of new games to both as well.

I know I'll give both a try, don't know if I'll stay with either, but time will tell.

IMHO MMO's should allow solo play, but the bonus of grouping should be enough so people want to group when it's an option.

There's nothing worse than having your progress halted because you can not find a group.

I also think guild should encouraged as well to foster the community spirt within MMO's.

IMHO it's a good game for free online content.

I'm still playing it on my PC while a lot of other games have been loaded completed and removed.

Might even consider subbing just to see what the new content is like.
