LoL .. as if there is a "wrong" way to use entertainment products. I use it in any way I like it ... not only there is little anyone can do about that, devs seem to respond and cater to players like me.

 

People always do as they like, it just isn't always good for them or society (or gaming) as a whole.  Even if Dev's are catering to you, don't take it as a compliment, as they are currently pandering  to the lowest common denominator, it makes the most money after all.

 

Who says how you like to play is better ? Have you done some study or market research to show this or are you just some guy on a forum that thinks his way is better than someone else's.

You call people the lowest common denominator because they treat games like games and not a substitute for real life but I doubt you'd get much support if you said it like that.

Your example of it is Guild Wars 2, but to acknowledge that would cause several heads around here to explode.


GW2 isn't a F2P game. It's B2P, which is different. It has the advantage of collecting a lot of the initial sales, with the longevity of F2P games. It's really more like the P2P games that go F2P than it is like a F2P game.

That statement is the greatest gift that MMO gamers ever gave the industry.

 

Hmmm . . . so if every new F2P mmo from here on out charged you $50-$60 up front just to play it, as long as it didn't have a sub, you would still call it F2P?  The fact that I cannot even log into it without paying the fee up front doesn't change the fact I suppose. 

I guess the mmorpg.com community is grateful for now knowing that the term buy to play (B2P) is hogwash.

Yeah, I didn't really follow that logic either.  I guess I'll go pick up some F2P XBOX games at Gamestop . . . they'll be single player RPG's, not mmo's, but they don't have a sub, so I like to think of them as being free.  Sucks that  I need to shell out 60 bones to be able to play them  though.

 

I like it.
Miss them?  Yes.  But it likely makes it easier for A-Net to balance the game this way.

What?? who whined that GW2 had no grind? Everyone i've talked to don't want grind! and now they have added grind when they promised to not have grind. Completing AC on Story Mode is hard, especially when people leave everytime you do it and then you can't add more members and have to restart the dungeon. 1 run = 1 piece of gear. YES PLEASE.

I'm not trying to be rude, but you don't seem to know as much about the game as you think you do. The armor you get as a reward for AC story mode is not the dungeon armor, it's generic armour that you get for every story mode in any dungeon. Check the second tab on the armor vendors in Lions Arch, you'll know what I mean. Repeating story mode doesn't get you another piece of the 'generic' armor either.

But, what I'm saying actually makes the situation worse for you and backs up what you are saying. Story mode doesn't even get you the dungeon armour. Tokens from explorable mode do, and explorable mode is much much harder than story mode. Plus, you get less than 1 piece of armor per explorable mode run.

BUT, Anet didn't promise no grind.. they promised no grind for STATS. They delivered what they promised. The grind is for skins.

 

 

+1, like this.  That's why I'm partial to this game--I like to solo and am too lazy to group for dungeons. 

 

 

Someone else wants to do dungeon runs all day?  Be my guest--your toon may look better than mine, but it's not any stronger.

Until there is some type of meaningful progression in PvP, this game won't even come close to the time that I spent playing WoW, or Rift, or Aion, etc.

 

If by PVP proogression you mean ppl that PVP alot will have stronger characters than those that don't--nope, you probably won't be spending as much time with GW2.

SW:TOR we had the queue times and couldn't get in until all of our names were taken. That's no way to start a launch. In waves, yeah right. Most launches like Warhammer and Age of Conan were terrible. MMO launches are bad.

But GW2 has tested their servers weeks and days in advance in order to make sure that they will have the perfect launch. No crashes, no queue times, just log in and play with a good connection, that's all.

Turned out, he was trolling. No such exploit exists.

Now people are upset that the republic is getting spawn camped because they are outnumbered greatly on most servers. This is just due to the fact that in 1.1 Ilum dailies now require player kills to complete, so the republic is kind of screwed due to the imbalance.

Everyone is screaming exploit, but its just some spawncamping due to the poor design of Ilum. The quest changes were made to stop the daily trading and create some actual PvP.

I always preferred open PVP, but I know the balance is tricky. I recall in Warhammer there were two things which IMO helped a lot: tiered PVP and castle sieges.

The tiered PVP leads to a generally better balance. You can also "learn" PVP on lower level range and grow into the big league step by step.

Castle sieges tend to downplay the imbalance. You can defend a castle with fewer players, you can conquer the castle at odd hours, there are many ways to reduce the imbalance factor. I always felt tiered PVP and castle siege open PVP are must haves for any Triple A MMO.

I used to take part in 200 vs. 200 battles in Hillsbrad, then WoW's open world pvp took an arrow in the knee.

Heh, on my server it was more like 100 vs 300 in favor of the Alliance.  I wasn't too sad when world pvp took an arrow to the knee after that in favor of instanced pvp, where the other side could not win by sheer numbers. 

 

And ppl wonder why instanced pvp always ends up killing world pvp in any game where ppl are given a choice between the two.

dosnt suprise me , people should be going to a light populated server. Soon as i started found the lightest pop server i could . Havnt had one que to log in since day 1 of ealry access

That makes perfect sense.  However, many people seem to flock to the larger servers for the larger population . . . makes it easier to find groups, makes for a better game economy, etc.  Funny, isn't it?
