This game "looks" like it was made about 6 years ago.

I will post this non stop because people are preposteriously troll. are exactly that.

Lobo, your assesment is entirely accurate, flaws and failings that exist in the first parts of a game dont magically disapear at higher levels.

Yes hence how AoC was the ultimate WoW Killer because the first 10 levels means EVERYTHING! Things don't magically change later!

I stopped reading after the first wow clone comment. WoW clone is a term used by ignorant people who cannot construct an intelligent thought.

You just used it twice.......

He used it explaining his views and thoughts about why he stopped reading. I know understanding context can be difficult at times but try to bare with us.

Negativity was his context, as is yours......Claiming someone is "ignorant" because they use a term you do not like is hardly fair.  It's clearly trolling....That context is quite clear....I know understanding context can be difficult , but try to bear with us.....

twist and turn however you wish... it remains an explanation, he had a disagreement with a term used that is widely considered "Negative" and explained by using this term he would not read the text and then went on to provide his opinion on who uses this term which could be taken negatively... it was an explanation. You continue to struggle with simple conversation. You can take this negative if you truly desire but it's not written that way... it's simply informing you of the difficulties you face in context and how to perceive it.

I'm glad you agree, his context and yours is negative......As much as you struggle to understand context, at least you managed to digest this simple bit....

So play the game write a book get out and have some sex. save a tree buy a dog. wake up and enjoy it. youth wont last forever man. all this will fade away like tears in the rain.

So true...This to shall pass...Ever read "The Secret" by Charles Bukowski?  Great poem.  I think you would enjoy it.

Me, I changed my mind. Just trying to cancel my pre-order. It's rubbish, what a let down.

He asked the question 'Who's changed their mind after playing this weekend's Beta?' and I answered truthfully.

What's your problem?

Problem?...All he did was agree with you

Game fun?

I'll chime in on your above question first.  If you wish to play the end game; raids etc.... you'll need to sub as those aren't avalible to the F2p players.  Although up until recently the low level dungeons weren't either and now they are so who knows what the future holds.

Is it fun to play?  YES and no.  Once you get everything set right it's an amazing looking game and has  one of the best turtorial's (with VO) around.  It's not just a button masher but makes you think about where your target is blocking and where to hit him at (hint - not where he's blocking! LOL!).

The story lines are fun and well written without being low winded.  You can answer all sweety pie or be down right rude and will get some different results from it.  I found this was one of the few games I actually enjoyed talking to the NPC quest givers.

It's also one of the few games (I think) that when it say's for mature audiences it means it.  From the dialoge to the fatalities it pushes the envelope.

Also on the tutorial island each/most of the professions has it's own version of the storyliine - fighter is a different view of the story, same for ranger, I think all the MU's use the same story but as I don't play them couldn't say for sure.

Now to the no part - If you're really hung up on playing X nation and leveling inside that nation (I was and went with Stgyian) you'll quickly finish all that nations quests and end up having to level in the other nations area's to get to the max F2p level.  I didn't want to play in the snow and ice and disliked having to.  The Greek/Roman area wasn't so bad but no Cim land for me!

Other than that, you'll find the normal F2p restrictions but I never saw any as a big game breaker.  I don't like not being able to mail items, but can live with it.

While there are just a few servers now, picking the right one is important.

Have fun in the game.

I just started as well....what server do you suggest?

Hmm. Why all these " i played 4 hours in beta and i have a very super review to show you about how the WHOLE game is" reviews, pop up all the time around the internet? Can you tell us something else? About the flashpoints? The heroic quests? The operations? the open world objectives? how the class and roles fit in individually? The dps/healing animations? the advanced classes? The companion system? The crafting system?

Good point that. People (mmorpg vets) should know better than to dismiss or glorify a mmorpg after just a couple of hours / a few days of play time (of a beta, even). Sure, anyone can give his or her first impression, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating. In that sense I only value what long term testers have to say (also the negative ones).

In Lobotomist's defense, if the game isn't enjoyable from the outset, why would anyone feel inclined to play all the way through?

As he states, it's CRITICAL that the game feels good immediately, not several hours/days of play down the line. I personally don't have the time for games like that when there are immediately fun games out there and if my xp of SWTOR is the same, I won't continue to play it past beta.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating and for most players, the 'eating' begins as soon as you hit 'Create New Character'.

Then he could name the post "First planet review" or "first few testing hours" and tell us just how he think the game is shortly after the Log-in. But to have a full review and say "the game does not worth the sub" when you only have seen the 1% of what a game has to offer you, is just ridiculous. If he were working on a magazine he would have been fired. The game is not for everyone. Some ppl will like it and some ppl won't. But before you express an opinion for a specific matter, you have to HAVE an opinion. It is just like you are about to test a new car, you sit in the driver's seat and before you start the engine you say " ah this car sux. Does not worth the money".

And thumbs up for the comment about the soloing above. The lvl up system is extremely group friendly. I tried it both solo and group and i had much more fun doing quests with my friends and it took me less time.

I hear all the opinions with respect generally. But i want to hear real opinions. Not guesses. Play the game, see what it has to offer and then we can safely critisize it.

I understand what you're staying and playing through the entire game would give a more valuable insight into whether or not it's good or not. However, playing games is a fun pass time and MMO's take days to 'complete', if that word is even applicable. By that measure, we'd all be waiting 6-12 months post launch to hear a review from a normal players (i.e. NOT hardcore MMO nut) who'd tried most of the game. By that point, there would be so many changes, even that review would be defunct!

Using your test-drive analogy, I would personally liken the first few hours/levels of game play to taking the car for a spin round the block. Now I don't really car what a car mag might tell me, if I don't like the car by that point I'm not really going to care if - according to someone who isn't me - it will gradually becomes more rewarding down the line.

This game will sink faster than a lead-plated turd if it doesn't attract and retain big numbers. I believe most people won't stick around long if the game is lame at the start, just for  the promise of better gameplay later on. First impressions count, which is why the attractive girl with big tits and no personality gets the rich husband with a Porsche and the fat but friendly one ends up having illegitimate kids with an illegal immigrant and living off state handouts for the rest of her life.

Not a suprising so called review by the OP, and laugable one at that. The game gets alot better, but I m not going to try and explain to someone that never gave the game a shot in the first place. I was very sceptacle when I first tried beta, only to be very suprised how good it was.

This was months ago, and I actually played past the starter area. AOC and WAR, really, you re comparing it to those. To each their own, but WAR was great in the first few levels, then hit the turd wall, AOC never felt good to me. Then again I ve played all 3 past the starter area.

as someone who hasn't played, may i ask WHEN it gets better? i always assumed a game should be fun right from the beginning.

i already know my wife and i are getting our copy. but, still.

is this another game that's only "fun" at mythical endgame?

Good Point, and well said.

After "testing" SWTOR for a while i've come to the conclusion that there is simply nothing wrong with SWTOR.

Graphics and sound are good, combat holds together well, voice acting is well done, UI is functional, classes are well put together.

So i've come to the conclusion that it's not SWTORs fault that I can't get into the game, it's mine.

I find myself struggling to get through the dialog, I simply have no motivation at all to do anything in SWTOR.

Maybe the interest of a classic mmo was ripped from me in RIFT (a game thats virtually the same bar setting).

Maybe the single player games I've played this fall make SWTOR seem pale in comparison.

I don't know but i do know its not SWTORs/Biowares fault.

Its all me.

With that said I recommend the game to anyone that wants a traditional style mmorpg with a bunch of spoken dialog.

For anyone else it's probably a pass.

Well said and appreciated....

People who join a sandbox  to build sandcastles don't usually like it when others destroy the castles, usually even before they are finished.   Very few people find it fun to constantly rebuild the same thing over and over.

Yes...which is exactly the point I made in my post.  Glad you agree.

Ultima Online worked, and is still up and running, as are others, I am not a fan of their current skill system, but their are other ways to play different periods of the game and rule sets...

Sandboxes are fine, they have problems, just like themeparks do, you just have to figure out the best way to do things, as with any MMO, the big problem is, like you cite, DF...It is AA at best, and some would call it a A MMO...There is no new AAA sandbox, so people poke at the cruddy indie titles that shouldn't of been released in their crappy state...Then they compare them to a game that spent 10 times the money or more, and think thats a good comparisson.

Themeparks are starting to add more sandbox stuff in the dev cycle now, so it will become more common to see some of the features that some enjoy in a sandbox.  I am sure their will be some sandbox games, but the majority will be some type of hybrid.

UO became popular because it had no competition other than Meridian 59 at the time. There was an untapped market and UO hit that spot. Nothing less. It's not a good measurement of how sandbox games with FFA PvP is the biggest draw.

The only thing holding sandbox games back are the niche group of players that insist on having full loot pvp in every sandbox game that comes out. They are a niche group within a gamestyle that has the potential to grow exponentially big. They are the only ones holding this genre back

Sandbox features are very sought after. FFA PvP not so much

This....FFA PvP prevents many from using the very sandbox features they joined the game to experience...SWG had a good PvP system...not perfect but good

Hello MMORPG Community,

So I'm sitting here watching TV and I started to think about Skyrim, and how much I love the game.  I've never actually played a Sandbox MMO but I'm growing in love with the whole Sandbox style that Skyrim offers.  Then I thought, why aren't there any good Sandbox MMOs? (some say Darkfall is good, but I've heard both sides)  And I thought about it somemore, and then I realized this.  Maybe the reason that Sandbox MMOs don't stick is because even with a Sandbox MMO you still cannot explore the entire world, you're still stuck to ceritan zones or areas.  Take Skyrim for example.  The Monstor's / Humonoids scale to your level.  You can literally explore every inch of the world and still be able to kill something.  If you go to the farthest north point, or the farthest south point, it's all the same.  Could this possibly be why Sandbox MMOs do not stick? Or is there some other aspect that I'm clearly not thinking of.

Thanks all, I cannot wait to hear your responses.

nah, I think you are thinking about it in the wrong way.

It doesn't matter whether you can explore everything NOW but that at some point you are able to explore it.

having content that is above the player at any given time is a good thing.

Sandbox mmo's do work. they aren't popular because many people who play mmo's want a more guided experience. Especially those who are in love with a more themepark way of doing things.

Heck, I recall a player recently in Lord of the Rings Online who was confused because he wasn't directly sent to the next quest hub. Now, LOTRO guides people to other quest hubs but it's not always as pronounced as say Rift. The suggestion that he just follow the road was accepted but he didn't like it that he was left in confusion.

And that's Lord of the Rings!

What's the average plaeyr going to do when they are just plopped in a world?

Of course, the rebuttal to that is "look at all the people who love the elder scrolls games, that's proof that people want a sandbox".

To this I say "did one ever consider that the same demographic that plays sandbox single player games isn't interested in mmo's? Especially because mmo's are, for the most part, about something else?

It's kinda like the first time I watched The Matrix I was like: "Wtf? I don't get this." Then the 2nd or 3rd time it makes sense and becomes one of the best things that ever happened to you.

Disagree...I've tried it several times...just not my cup of tea

And for some reason people seem to think that a Sandbox games just HAS to have FFA full loot PVP.

As much fun as that is for some of us, it's a sure-fire way to make sure that a game will never have enough subs to survive.

That..and developers keep forgetting to put enough sand in the box.

You said it all.  The arguments against limiting what players can do to each other and where because limitations of any kind make the game 'not a sandbox' fire up the minute a game is announced.  Then people act surprised when a handful of dedicated asshats stomp all over the population and drive everyone out.

LOL....So very true

The Z-board...It has seperate keys for movement and i've seen...organized and efficient..great for any style of play, makes using powers quick and easy...
