a 50k crit is different than a 40k crit!  lol  ;)

You need that to kill the monster that has 10k more hp so you can get the 60k crit weapon (to kill the monster that has 20k more hp)

I’ve been on these forums for well over 8 years and it is simply amazing how attitudes and trends change on a very regular basis. When EQ was in its glory days it was all about raiding. If you didn’t raid you were a scrub. When WoW released, raiding was still king of the mountain. Since then many games have come and gone, raiding has remained in most of them until recently. GW2 is bringing a new type of MMO to the marketplace that has no end game raiding to speak of. On the forums for months now you see numerous posts revolving around “Thank god there is no raiding in GW2 or Raids aren’t needed”.

After reading these type posts for some time I’ve come to a realization that most people fall into a certain category of non-raiders.
There are typically a few reasons people don’t like Raiding.

• They don’t have time in real life to dedicate to an organized guild structure that it takes to raid successfully.
• They have been ridiculed in past games for their lack of skill, Example... Get out of the fire dumbass.
• They don’t have a personality to speak of so they don’t play well with others.
• They are too lazy to do the work, example… They don’t want to get the necessary gear it takes to raid

I’ve raided in every game I’ve played over the last 14 years and I absolutely love it.
I guess because I’m ex-military, I love the teamwork involved in raiding. Getting dedicated players together on a regular basis to down raid mobs is so much more fun than doing simple dynamic events.

I honestly hope Anet changes its stance in the future and brings in some type of organized raiding. Exploreable 5 man dungeons are great and all, but it’s a far cry for a raid.
If they don’t, so be it. Guild Wars 2 will be fun for awhile atleast.

Actually you have that wrong.. there is what, 4 or 5 OTHER threads whinning that there is no raids. Only people that are complaining about raids are people defending themselves from elitest who say things like "They are too lazy to do work" or that "they dont have a personality".  

Yeah, lets start a thread saying that the way you play a video game is the right way, everyone who doesnt agree with you are "lazy, lack skill, and dont have a personality to speak of".  Seems you are pretty lazy, since there are a number of threads just like this you could post into. Or is it because you are such a special raiding butterfly that you need your own thread? Hmm, personality seems a little harsh, with the insults and stuff. 

IN closing, GW2 doesnt have raids, perhaps a Panda will be more your skill level.

There I think you are wrong. Just because it worked for WoW doesnt mean it will work for GW2. I mean, hows the gear grind in SWTOR helping that game? You are also not thinking of how GW2 is set up. There is no sub. It is a game like TF2. I will play the hell out of that for weeks at a time. Then I will take a break till I feel like playing it again. You can't do that with say Warhammer online. When I get the itch to play that again, I think about having to put my cc in again and pay $15. What if I play for a week and get distracted by something else. I hate wasting money. And since I havent played for a year or so, I will be so far behind everyone else in gear that it just aint worth reinstalling.

 

There's another side to that same argument though. The fact that there is no subscription fee and no real gear progression means that there is far less incentive for people to feel invested in the game and stay long term. They will do exactly what you describe and leave for long periods of time, only returning when they want their quick fix. They won't stay and foster a strong and healthy community because they will have no reason to do so. They won't need a strong guild to help them progress through difficult content and earn their next piece of gear. Hell, they won't even need to do that content. There is no real incentive to even bother with it. What I fear we will end up with is the ultimate casual game... with no real community and no real long-term goals to strive for. I hope I am wrong, but I just don't see it at this point.

If you want progression, Tournaments, ranks and cosmetics are available in structured and PVP specific gear as well as Server rankings are available in WvW. 

My job and career is where I progress.

Video games is where I go to chill out and have fun with friends.

Not everyone is sold on cosmetics. This diesn't mean GW2 is a bad game, but for those who do not view cosmetics as a form of progression, there're questions about will GW2 be able to keep their attention.

Could they do it? Yes.. it is their game, they are smart people, technicaly there is no reason they couldn't do it. 

Will they do it.. no, and I am thankfull. The problem with raid content is that only a small percent of the population gets to see it. I don't have time to sign up and schedule play time with 20 or 40 other people anymore... and neither do alot of people. Anet is trying to make a game that everyone can play, raiding leaves alot of people on the outside looking in.

Guild Wars 2 has some of the most bland and boring Lore I have ever seen in an MMO, It is the most generic fantasy ever, WoW is much more apealing to me. The only the GW2 has that grabbed my attention was the huge WorldvsWorld pvp but having that while sacraficing Open World pvp, horrible, I love open-world pvp and WoW provides all that. 

Guild Wars 2 will fail against WoW and it will not attract as many people as WoW has. The Lore is crap, no Raiding and no Open World pvp. At least WoW makes you feel like you are part of a big exciting world while GW2 is boring generic fantasy crap.

Man, I was enjoying this thread, liking that it was a real qustion, and then you do this? Man.. that aint right. I am glad you like WoW, but coming on here with an agenda is just lame. Also, I use to play wow, was thinking about trying it out again till GW2 starts just to see the changes. Won't have to now, if it was still interesting you would be playing, not baiting people looking foward to a game that is NOT WoW.

I thought there was in bw1, but couldnt find it in BW3. I either might have not looked hard enough, or I might have remebered wrong (have a bad memory for real reasons).

If there was a subscription fee, I could understand that reasoning, but there isn't one. I always find myself playing games with subscriptions way more than I should so I think I am "getting my moneys worth". Since I don't have to do this with GW2, I should be able to enjoy it as much or as little as I want ... and still not pay a dime if I don't want to.

If I was just about to start school and had a job and wasnt sure what my life was going to be like... I wouldnt get it either. I know me, I would play for "just an hour before going to bed" and be late for class without any sleep. hahah. IF he is the same sort of person I was (and still am), I applaud his self control for NOT buying it till he gets into a schedule and knows he can handle it.

I understand where you are coming from OP. Hopefully once the dust settles and you get into a rythm and find yourself some extra time you will enjoy it then. Untill then, good luck with your studies.
