Plus, it's not like a false raid is costing more tax dollars than swat teams buying military surplus that they don't need without telling anyone...

This makes you sound as if you have no idea what you are talking about.  They don't get to just spend money on a whim.  It isn't like they say, "No swat calls today so I'll go out and buy a bunch of guns."  They have a budget and the department head usually makes the decisions on how to spend that budget.

The only part about government budgeting that I don't agree with is that if you don't spend all of your budget, they take some away next year.  This only encourages spending to the limit of the budget to ensure your budget doesn't shrink.  It is likely that at the end of the fiscal year they decided to spend their excess on some things they felt were needing to be replaced or upgraded.

The real cost here is that the police could be doing something better than responding to fake calls.  They get paid if they sit in the office, their car, or if they go out on a call.  The gas money to transport them is usually negligible.

Yeah and I'm sure we can all trust those department heads to be honest... And why would they need to replace or upgrade to assault vehicles and M4s to do police work?

There's an easy way to avoid being "Swatted".  All you have to do is refrain from talking shit to people you don't know over the internet.

Completely wrong.

Just earlier today I got raged at by someone on CS:GO and I didn't even have my mic on, nor did I type to anyone.

An entire team got mad at me the other day BECAUSE I didn't talk.

People in these kinds of games will rage about anything. If you're not pissing one person off you are another. If you do something, someone's mad, if you do nothing, someone's mad.

Personally, I believe it to be an age thing. If not that, then maturity. It's not that people shouldn't take the game seriously, they should just be able to handle the stress/responsibility of playing a PvP game. This kind of behavior goes hand in hand with the selfish attitude of the crowd quick to call 'kill steals', and blame others for their losses.

Also two wrongs don't make a right, etc.

Raging is one thing.  That's their fault.  If they can find your name and address, that's your fault.  And even if they did get your personal info, you'd really have to push them to get them to act.

Don't need? So you know what kind of situations every police department which purchased some faces? You are able to calculate the current and possible future needs of every law enforcement agency in the country?

Besides, it's a couple of HumVees and some body armor, not bazookas, land mines, attack helicopters, and so forth. Get over it. Furthermore, this is a much more serious situation due to the fact that people very well could get hurt or killed.

Oh, and who are they supposed to tell? The federal government oversees the sale, and state (and sometimes local) governments need to approve an expenditure like that. So everyone who should know, does know.

As for avoiding being 'swatted', some people will do it just because you beat them in an online game. The only way to protect against that is not to play online games, essentially.

The federal government does not oversee the sales.  The companies the pentagon contract to make their gear end up with surplus that they then sell to whoever they want.   Unless you've been living in a hole the last few weeks you'd know that it's a lot more than humvees and body armor.   Everything a police outfit purchases is on record.  Yet where are the records of them buying LRAD systems and urban assault vehicles?  They magically disappear...

I realy dont get it, if i make a call like that here. they know where i am at the same time i make the call.

(they have the same thing in the USA since 911, it uses its IMEI and number and antenna used to make the call)

If i then say i am gonna drive over my neighburs grandmother and then shoot her or somthing.

They dont send in the marines or anything.

Let me get this staight, they are able to listen in on Angela Merkels phone in Germany but cant trace a prank call to its owner ?

There are ways around that.  Dial-out phone confs for example.  You can also bounce through various proxy lines.

WOW wasn't even close to being one of the first MMOs. There were plenty of MMOs out when it released in late 2004. Here is a list of major MMOs that were around when it released, and this isn't even the entire list, just the most popular ones. Almost all of these MMOs are still around to this day.

1996 – Meridian 59

1997 – Ultima Online

1998 – Lineage

1999 – Everquest, Asheron’s Call

2001 -  Runescape, DAOC, Anarchy Online

2002 – Final Fantasy XI, Asheron’s Call 2

2003 – Shadowbane, Eve Online, SWG, Lineage 2, Horizons

2004 – Everquest 2, City of Heroes

Thank you.  The reason why wow is king of the hill is because there are millions of ignorant blizztard fanboys on this planet who have no idea what they are talking about...

Recently just resubbed. Numbers are still huge for this game. Was surprised to still see noobies in the starting areas. Thought it would be all of us old vets. The new starting areas are awesome! Gnome area is the best!

Love you all for the responses. Glad some still debate!

WOW is the only mmo I play once in a while. I have reverted back to single player games. Retro as well.. Warcraft III ect. Ever wonder where the world of warcraft history comes from. Play that game and youll learn. Pretty awesome!

Back to Hearthstone now :-). Need to beat up some Zoolocks :-)

Warcraft 3 is considered retro?  I'm getting old...

Here's a few things for you to think about.

What if you have been trying to get a job for an extended period of time? Guess what, the job market sucks, and you can't 'just go get a job'. A business posts a single minimum wage position and gets over 300 applicants the first day. Yeah, getting a job isn't that easy in a lot of places, I'm glad you live somewhere that has more jobs than applicants. (Yes, that was sarcasm.)

I have a job, but damn, after paying for rent, utilities, food, etc, I'm lucky to have anything left. Hate to say it, but minimum wage is a joke if you have to live on it. And the old adage that rent shouldn't be more than 1/3rd of your income is NOT what the market is in most places. If you're on minimum wage, it's way too high for a rat hole. Sure that varies from place to place, but don't assume somebody with a job has oodles of spare cash.

What if I play more than one game? Let's see. I probably play several hours at a shot, probably several days a week if I play a lot online. But I have a half dozen games I like. Some days I'm in the mood for one thing, another day is something different. I get horribly bored if I keep playing the same thing over and over. So let's see, at $15 for each game, despite the fact that I have limited play time for each of them, that's $90 for those 6 games. That seems kind of high for the playtime I get. What if it's only 2 games, well that's $30, and you only get half the time on each despite paying the full price for both. Doesn't seem right to a lot of people, especially when they do the math.

Sorry OP, but your original statement was a bit, well, short sighted. Try taking in to consideration the situations others may be in, and cross check it with reality.

Get a job. Or even the old get a better paying job. Sheesh, if people could easily do that by wanting it there wouldn't be any unemployment or poor people. Too bad the economy doesn't work that way. Heck, it's almost as bad as telling someone they should have been born rich.

Sorry in your case stop playing games you can't afford spend that time increasing your prospects looking for a better job. Once you have that better paying job sit back crack open that beer you can now afford eat that steak dinner you can now afford play that video game you can now afford.

If you cannot afford $15 a month then you really should not be playing these games you should be working on improving your situation. (This is even more apparent when you start wanting to play multiple mmorpgs seriously get a grip if you can't afford it DON'T DO IT and maybe seek professional help with your addiction.)

I have been in that position and trust me getting out of it took a lot of work and time but ultimately worth it.

In what country are we talking about here?

With all the game shut downs in the last 5 years, people don't want to invest their money and time in to something that isn't going to be around long enough to fully enjoy.

One of my best memories was logging in to UO for the first time and saying, "What the heck is this crap?  Why is it so laggy?  Why is that guy snooping my backpack?  What the heck just killed me?  I hate this game!"  Not knowing that 16 years later I would still be playing it lol

Star Wars Battle Chess is now abandonware so you can get it for free.
D&D and Forgotten Realms have been adapted to videogames since the early 80's.   Games Workshop made the leap back in 1991 and have adapted most of their games to videogame form.  Heroquest, Space Hulk, Bloodbowl, Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 40k, Epic 40k, Warhammer Quest have all been made in to video games.  The newest version of Space Hulk came out this year.
Nothing will beat Jump to Lightspeed on SWG...
I really wanted to get in to EQ and the pvp elements of DAOC but I was still on 56k back then ;-(
Ultima Online
Either make an emulator or move on with your life.  The game is gone.  Get over it already...
You can't judge until it's in atleast closed beta.  It almost sounds like the OP wants the game to fail.   One thing that pisses me off is so-called fans of GW who constantly badmouth GW yet show up every weekend at their local hobby shops to play GW games.  If these kids are such genius game designers, why don't they design games?  Nuff said.
UO and SWG have/had the best player housing systems imo.
It just went in to open beta...If you think "Open Beta" means that  you get a headstart on a finished game you need to re-learn your terminology.  The OPs original post shows the real difference between pre-wow and post-wow "mmorpg" players...
