Dungeon Overlord: If You Loved Dungeon Keeper...
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 1/22/12 2:44:13 PM
Ok, I remember Dungeon Keeper, and this isn't anything like it. To say this game is horrible doesn't describe it at all. If your eyes are glued to the screen, it's because of the insanely long waiting period between builds just for low level rooms. On top of that, your severely limited as far as how many rooms you can build at once. Even worse still, you have to upgrade rooms in a big square. Great... at least until you have to upgrade that same room, or at least overlap into another room because you had to sell those tiles. Seriously, Night Owl, please don't sit there and swear up and down that this is just like DK, because your game falls painfully short of that. Did I mention that you don't get to train your imps in this game? Unlike in DK, you can train your imps so they work faster.... Talk about falling short... |

Would you play FE if it was more FPS and less WoW?
Fallen Earth « Fallen Earth 10/05/11 7:48:22 AM
1.9.3 just made things alot worse, so... yeah... I'll be leaving that in the virtual dust and leave it to slowly die out as more of us leave. |

Unfortunatly, I'm going to have to say no. With the release of their latest patch (1.9.3), they eliminated if not alienated the PVE crowed. While one person on their forums argues that PVErs only make up a tenth of the population, that is false since they're basing that off of their clan. In fact, the PVE population is eight tenths of the population. However, with the latest patch, they made it difficult, if not impossible, to gather already hard to find crafting materials. Guess where you can find them now? Inside PVP zones. Which, of course, is camped by high level players looking to grief lower level players. Not much fun there. The game USED to be good, but now it's just terrible. While the crafting wasn't all that bad (it still had its issues, but it was doable), the patch made it even more difficult to craft all those great items everyone liked. Not to rehash that subject... To say nothing of the myriad of new bugs that were introduced. I could go on, but it would take way to long to even list them here. So to reiterate, no, it's not worth subbing, let alone resubbing. For those of you waiting for this game to go F2P, your better off just looking elsewhere. |

FE Economy, Cash Based or Trade and Barter System?
Fallen Earth « Fallen Earth 7/27/11 1:24:21 AM
Originally posted by Painlezz Not to use you as an example. But this is the typical thought of most people who don't think the way you do Painlezz. FIrst off I would like to say that your playing a game whos story is based on a hypothetical post apocalyptic world. That means that the economy you used to know no longer exists. Hence, money has no value where resources means everything. The only real reason players are trying to turn this into a cash based economy, is because that's what they're used to. They're used to going out there, farming for hours on end, and making tons of money to gain and spend on the auction houses. They fail to realize, let alone remember, that money really has no basis in FE. I'm not saying they're wrong in that thought process either. But at the same time, they need to think about how they're going to survive in a post apocalyptic world where the entire world gets nuked (in this case virused) back into the stone age. The devs set up the game to rely on a trade and barter system more than a cash based system. Many of us older gamers know this, and take advantage of that. Before I get more into how this system works. Let me take a brief sidestep, and state that crafting does NOT mean you log off for hours on end. The crafting system allows you to setup several other items in queue while the first is crafted. Which means you don't have to sit there for hours on end at a work station. It's true that crafting continues while your offline, but it doesn't mean you have to log off. You can continue exploring and completing missions. So, now back on track and to the explanation at hand. Let's say you yourself specialize in building vehicles. Geting more specific, you can build electric buggies. Another player knows this, and they specialize in making weapons. The other player offers to trade you a cemented pole in exhange for that buggy. As luck would have it, you happen to have the key to that buggy. Not wanting to waste a trip, you whole heartedly agree, and make your trade. You now have a head splattering cemented pole, and they have a fuel efficient vehicle. I know it's a poor example, but you get the idea. Another example would be you have parts for a weapon, but you don't have the skill. Another player has the raw materials and the skill to put them together. You can trade the items that way and still make good without having to use chips. I hope this clears things up for everyone out there watching this thread. If not, I can try to explain it better, but it's late and I'm tired. By the way, the devs don't lie to get subscribers, it's just how the players themselves have chosen to play the game. |

There is one thing you need to bear in mind. The two sets of numbers at the top doesn't acuratly reflect the actual number of people online. The number of tanks is the one you want to do the math with since the one with the people is the number of tank crew members. So when they say that they had a total of 20k accounts online during the beta, that number is actually false. |

FE Economy, Cash Based or Trade and Barter System?
Fallen Earth « Fallen Earth 7/23/11 9:15:49 PM
I'm just curios to see how many people out there even know what kind of economy this game is running off of. Given that chips (the legal tender used in FE) is hard to come by, while raw materials happens to be very easy to obtain. I already had my suspicions, and had gotten those proven correct when I had emailed the devs directly for answers. Since I don't want to spoil the surprise, let's see what you guys believe. So, which do you all think? Cash system where money is what runs the player controlled economy; or trade and barter where you can exchange completed goods, parts, and raw materials for like. Only one vote per customer!! |

Originally posted by Caldrin If your lucky, you may even see an old recruitment add from the Wasteland Motor Company crop up now and then. To be honest, I had forgotten about this game after I left it in pursuit of other beta test projects, hard to believe it's been over a year and four months since then. |

Yeah, I saw an email informing me that this game is going F2P. In fact, I had gotten so involved in other projects, that I had competely forgotten about the surprise I was about to post in regards to how the economy was originaly invisioned by the devs!! Ah well, still it's never to late. |

Ok, let's not troll about WoW, and compare every single MMO out there as though WoW was perfect, because it's not.
I will agree that PWI has made alot of mistakes, if anything, they bit off more than they could chew. Either way you slice it, wether P2P or F2P, there's going to be grinding, no matter what. Leveling will always be different from game to game. Hell, I'm just waiting to see if any of these companies come out with a system where you just go around answering questions. Ok, dumb idea, but it would still be something new. |

The true reason, people go back to WoW. Is it the game, or the community?
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 7/15/11 5:16:07 AM
I can say I never went back to WoW. I stuck with it until I finished all I could in Northrend, then got tired of it and moved on. I have heard from friends that still play that the community went downhill, not that it wasn't on the way anyway. Needless to say, Cata wasn't enough for me to want to go back, nor will anything they try to create after that. If anything, I went back to LOTRO after several beta test rounds of other games. |

I feel your pain on that Death. That cheesy "gift" tank they gave us never even made up for the loss of the tier tens we had all worked hard for. It felt like a kick in the teeth either way. |

Ack - I have some problems with this game.
General Discussion « Forsaken World 7/14/11 12:03:57 PM
Originally posted by Grammie Your statement is incorrect. I have had no trouble finding quests even after level 12. If all your doing is instances, and not exploring around to see who has something new, then it's no wonder why your stuck. This game, however, does rely heavilly on exploration. If your not used to that, then you won't find anything new to do. Those of us who are Everquest veterans can tell you, there is more to do if you just talk to the NPCs. Though they made it stupid easy since WoW was first released, and everyone else followed suit. |

Originally posted by Grammie They have plenty of quests all throughout the game. If your not completeing them as you go, then your more or less stuck grinding. If you'll notice, alot of the quests that you do are in yellow. Those grant you the most xp for completeing them. My warrior was already ten levels above the normal quests, which I completed anyway, and I still had more to pickup. Also, don't skip the instances, those will net you alot more xp than you can handle. |

Keyboard movement - turning, not strafing?
General Discussion « Forsaken World 7/14/11 11:56:59 AM
The most I can suggest here is to check your keyboard options. Toy with those a bit, and you'll be able to move normally just like in any MMO. |

If you want a game where the scenery and character design look good, not overly bright (hence my belief that they are trying to appeal to the kids with ADD, since bright colors hold their attention longer), and the characters don't have disproportionate bodies. Then go for this. It's got a great stroyline that you can follow. There is grinding just like in every other MMO out there, there isn't one where you don't grind something out folks. The weapons don't look impossibly huge, and the armor looks functional, even on female characters. I have been playing since closed beta, and I can tell you that's by far it's better than most of PWI's games. For example, the auto walk (for the most part) is more intelligent, and will take you right where you need to go. Though not all quests have that function, many more of them do. |

I Rage Quit over Cash Shop issues - the game is great but beware scams for your cash!!
General Discussion « Forsaken World 7/14/11 11:45:15 AM
You made two mistakes, which seems common in any PWI game.
1. You bought from the cash shop to early to upgrade your gear way to soon. 2. You posted about it in their forums. Beware of 12 year olds responding to your posts, you will get flamed hard core.
I'm not saying don't buy leaves to help support the game, just be smart about it. I bought leaves as well, but only for the cosmetics. I'm just one of those that can't stand my gear clashing when it doesn't match, and would rather look good. Not that fassion sence makes any difference in combat. |

What I'm curious to know is if they finally killed the bot problem. Granted, not all servers had that issue, but they were still a major pain for a good three months or so after release. I also heard rumors that they were "thinking" about moving to the FTP model in order to call back old subscribers. I doubt that's true, but it would still be interesting to see what they've done. |

What level does the fun start?
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 7/14/11 11:25:18 AM
Originally posted by Matt_UK Bear in mind, he did say he plays WoW, which would explain alot in his case. If it's not easy mode, it's not fun in his way of thinking. |

Originally posted by Foomerang I was beta testing that one actually. It's not bad given the colors are way to bright for me, and it looks way to toony. Perfect for the kids. But not to bad. Interesting class switching system. |

I was going to say, "Hey, don't knock this game, for once GPotato came out with something interesting." Until I remembered my own experience with it, and completely read the OP's post. Thus far, I have yet to see even on game by GP that is even worth the time and effort. In regards to any of GP's PVP system in any game, enter at your own risk. Your always better off avoiding that. Even then, good luck with finding any quests after a certain level. You will always end up having to level grind since you run out to quickly. Which is a shame, because Prius did appear to have a terrific storyline, which is rare with most FTP games. Oh well, chalk this up as another must avoid, since this is GPotato that published it. |
