Another question is if you are say level 50 and you travel to a level 20 area de, do you automatically go down in power or do you have the choice to remain your current level and proceed to wipe the floor with low level mobs?

I don't think it's optional least that would defeat the purpose of wanting a decent challenge at least for any one who "out leveled" the content. 
Which brings in replayability.

So if you involuntarily get bumped up or down in power depending on the zone you are in, why have levels at all? Is it really just because people like numbers going up to let them know they are progressing?

There is no lack of roles. Support, crowd control, damage, etc are all in the game. What was taken out is the ability to be the tank or healer that the rest of the group relied on.

Now people actually have to work together rather than just have a couple of people do most of the work.

IMO, if someone calls a game the second coming then I treat them the same way I treat someone who calls a game a WoW killer, I pat them on the head and tell them to run home to their mother.

So far I haven't seen anybody call the game the Second Coming. The only people I have seen use that term are haters who are talking down about the game or its community.

I'm not bashing the game at all, I think it will be very good. But I'm pissed off with every single MMO being compared with it right now, the game isn't even released yet, you cannot compare a game to something you've never played. Yes, you've seen the videos, but I also saw videos of Age of Conan/Vanguard which made those games look like the second coming. 

To conclude, you can't compare, or rate, a game you've never played (or only played an hour of.) I realise that this website is mostly full with Guild Wars 2 fantatics, but seriously, wait until the game is about before bashing another game or because it is not as good as Guild Wars 2 (which is an invalid opinion as you do not know.) 


These are my predictions, my opinions. Free of biased reviewing. Rant over.




1) Unfortunately people can't be expected to keep realistic expectations. The people at ArenaNet have not promised anything they haven't shown to be in the game and working except for WvWvW and we might be getting some info on that very soon. People should only expect what the developers have promised and not blow it up to unreal proportions, but like I said earlier, people can't be expected to do that.

2) This game is innovative. Taking a feature that was used in some other game before and giving it a twist makes and innovative feature but not an innovative game. Taking a bunch of features and the base of the game and giving them a twist and putting them all together and making them work makes and innovative game and that is what ArenaNet are doing.

3) Guild Wars 1 sold several million copies so Guild Wars 2 doing that well is very well indeed. Although from the amount of hype going around I think Guild Wars 2 will do much better than the original.

As for your concluding points, people have played Guild Wars 2, some for hours on end even. There is also nothing wrong with comparing Guild Wars 2 to any other game from a design perspective. Sure you shouldn't compare it in some ways such as level of polish or graphics because the game is still in development and those things will/could change.

The game has been in beta since december of last year.

8 on launch, each with ~4 paths on average.

Sorry but giving people actaul advantages while you fight sounds care bearish to me, the best player should always win a PvP game and if you hand out gear that makes you better you destroy that and turn the gae into another grind.

Loke i ve read in past many of of your posts  about gameplay in games and i always respectd your opinion.

You know exactly what i mean with the things i wrote above. Serious players dont care about special mounts and stupid achievents from killing 10 spiders ina row or gathering 1k gold. Either for fancy dresses. They care mostly about their character improvement. If the progress 's end is fast to get its the end. Pvp will be fun for 1 maybe 2 months. Can u imagine Skyrim or mount and blade playing it and no improvement on the character? D&D games without progressing stats or feats or even skills?  Same goes here. Its mmo yes but its RPG .Reaching lvl cap and progress afterwards? Its adead game.

i think the biggest problem we have is gross over-generalisation. "serious players" i believe like a challenge. when the game stops being a challenge, they walk away. it's why your average mmo has to keep churning out content or die. it's why i believe wow keeps doing massive changes to its skillset to the point of deleting skills and even, as we've seen a few time sin recent years, completely redesigning their trees. they do this not to progress your character, but to give you a change. to give you a challenge.  anyone who thinks it's about balance isn't paying attention. in games like that there is no balance. there never can be. this makes the whole competitive sport side of it a complete joke, because certain classes with certain gear will ALWAYS have too much of an advantage to the point you can zone in, look at your opponent and pretty much walk off and pour a drink because you know that unless that guy is a complete and total noob who's not even mouse-turning, then you've lost.

gw2 is attempting to fix that. to turn the whole pvp experience into a real esport. hence the lack of gear with stats which will give unfair advantages. they've gone the motorsport way, i guess, where they pretty much restrict what you can and can't use so there's a reasonably level playing field.

this is awesome. it's not about restricting character progression as they've already proven you can advance your character laterally. they're just trying to ensure everyone has a reasonable chance of feeling like they're contributing and no one's being excluded or made to feel like a noob simply because they haven't geared "correctly". i for one would dearly love all stats to be removed from gear. bring the stats back to the character.


for the record, i just wanted to say: i'm a serious gamer and i love this idea of doing away with noob-rolling gear. it might help me bite my nails again.

Imagine wow where after u take your last lvl 85 for example, there is no gear from  pvp or pve to further improve ,make stronger your character.There are just some raids with some better cosmetic aesthetic appearance , and from arenas or rated bg's u would take just titles. U think anyone would play wow if it was like that? Anyone would bother to go raid in wow or burn himself in  arenas nowdays?

No. Nobody would play WoW like that and Blizzard knows it. WoW pretty much sucks gameplay wise. Churning out better and better gear is the way Blizzard are keeping people playing.

If WoW's gameplay was actually fun rather than repetetive and static then they wouldn't need it. But it is and they do.

We do already know that the personal storyline is recorded in your storybook. It would probably be very simple to add the ability to let other people see it if that function isn't already in the game.

No. It's fun, but it's not fun enough for me to spend $60. I'll wait for a sale sometime in the future.

ArenaNet =/= Bethesda. Just because one company can't do it well doesn't mean another can't.

And doesn't Skyrim have level scaling too, just done better?

I gave my asumptions also agree with the combat it doesn't look like MMOG combatstyle to me, others may disagree but thats the way it is.

There is no such thing as MMO combat style.

Not trying to be an arse, but wanted to clear up this misconception.  They haven't released a single CGI video for GW2 that I know of.  All of it has been generated by the game/art engine.  A lot of stuff mixes art animation with game models, so it's very stylized.  They use the same tools to create the ingame cinematics, most of which are generated on the fly for conversations with story NPCs.  Last month (or maybe Nov) they showed their latest development in conversation animation tech.  It's pretty stellar.

P2P means the people who make the game are guaranteed money post-launch, but it doesn't mean they are going to do anything with it.

B2P selling content, not sure really. Why not just a non P2W cash shop? Selling content smells of Freemium like Lotro. Buy the next quest pack or be bored to pieces. I don't like this concept either and I don't see it matching into a B2P model. Extra character slots, cosmetic items, extra bagspace (unless it's almost required to get around). Some DLC could be acceptable, but I'd prefer not to see this as the most important part of the CS.

 Honestly, I wouldn't really mind non-P2W stuff.  But I wouldn't want the cash shop to entirely live off of it.

Content makes the developers work to actually improve the game.  If they make all their money from selling hats, then the game isn't getting any better.

That's what expansions are for.

Nobody is trying to mislead anybody. The best answer we have right now is that we don't know. 

According to a thread on this forum GW2 is about as seamless as WoW where in WoW you had to take a zeppelin (portal in GW2) between Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms, GW2 will have similar transitions between 4 major regions of the world.

However, going by some screenshots and videos of the demos there very well may be portals separating each zone. However, the demos are also not conclusive as those portals may very well have been put there for the purpose of keeping everyone in specific zones for the demo.

My guild already started EV last week and to be honest it is just so buggy it is not even funny - 8 resets, bosses never appearing, boss mechanics bugging out completely resulting in complete raid wipes, whole party dropping dead randomly after reviving on the republic ship, etc etc etc.

Don't want to ***  people off but this game is so not finished and won't be I don't think for months. I would forgive them if the raiding was a little bugged and PVP functioned properly but because the PVP is so pointless and non-existant on ilum and warzones so pants I can't. 

I call BS, because I never had hardly any problems raiding EV. So  why dont you come back when you actually did it.

Apparently the raids in TOR are broken and its talked about in here.
