I'm a graphic designer and animator, not only will I be very happily build a new Norrath for SOE, but will be using Landmark to build the sets and do early shots for a Machinima series, hoping to make a well produced show, if I can find some voice actors with good equipment willing to control the characters as they dub and use SOEmote.

I couldn't be happier with the whole inclusive tone to the dev team's presentations.

This isn't just any mmo charging like this, its one that comes out on XB1 and PS4, building on a B2P product. The shop won't be the problem, the sub will.

A sub would make more sense in ANY other mmo coming out, FF:XIV has XI as a precedence, Wildstar has major endgame for PVE and PVP, EQN has vast potential for player made content, Archeage has its sandbox pvp, but TESO? I keep waiting for Zenimax to make a decision I can understand... still waiting.

I think we have enough info now to say Smed was on the level, and of course he knows what a sandbox is, SOE managed SWG and Vanguard, and he's an EVE player.

Voxels alone mean the foundation of the game is more sandbox than any other outside some indie mmos, the AI allow for more emergent/spontaneous non-linear events, behavour shapes your class and quest opportunities, rally calls allow for levels of permanence we don't often see and also change (the main city Qeynos can we lost), you can explore North, East West, South and Down.

Crafting will involve a unique gathering and combination system, we wont have any traditional quest npcs or hubs, Landmark is a next gen minecraft, and what we don't know will surely be more sandbox than most mmos, due to the fact that they don't have much choice with it, given the fundamentals we know are in there. Unlike most "sandparks" like Wildstar or Archeage where the sandbox aspects are added into a themepark game by the devs, EQN starts with the devs, and can be carried on by us.

We can be skeptical of whether all the elements will work together, and with such a bold experiment a lot can go wrong, and some things inevitably will, but its just silly to still doubt we are dealing a true sandbox, just look at how the limitations have to be imposed by the devs rather than reflect a lack of tools provided, as the degree of freedom provided by Voxels on its own would mean chaos (hence divided the game into two). This is the opposite to the token allowances of freedom all but the EVEs of the mmo world offer.

I had no idea they had to re-write the lore for this.  I saw the Quakecon footage, and after wiping the vomit from my monitor I realized one of the reasons it looked like a game from 99 was that the footage resolution was low, but why should I continue to make excuses for Zenipax?

I still feel this will be a good game, but Skinatax keep making bad decisions, and it drowns out the reasons to play for many.

Tampax, Hotwax, Skinamax or whatever they're called don't seem to have a very consistent and clear message and vision, unlike say Carbine, and they have an huge IP that means a lot of expectations and so more opportunity to disappoint.

I've been patiently waiting for them to give me a reason to play, and so far, not much, but then I was never invested, those that are sometimes fixate on the odd decisions made. In the dev's defense, they do listen and change things according to beta feedback, however, often to things that should have been in there from the start. Great devs are ahead of the player base in ideas and innovations (EQN) not constantly playing catch-up with the masses.

The payment model is odd considering they have yet to really sell us that there will be that much content, given most of what they have said is similar to the reassurances Bioware gave with SWTOR, and it's hard to believe they think the PS4/XB1 players won't have a problem with subs.

I don't believe themeparks that rely so much on rapid dev content to keep people subbing and not player contributions is a sustainable model anyway, I thought the rest of the industry was waking up to that reality (SOE has at last), but I guess some are a little behind the curve.

The sub doesn't surprise me as they are focusing on endgame pvp and raiding rather than lvling progression. Yes those hoping for a free ride are disappointed, but there is also FFXIV that is a sub, and that for some of us is a problem, as we where planning on that being our one sub mmo.

Also for me EQN has stolen a lot of Wildstar's thunder, and there is also Archeage and ESO to distract us. The days of committing to a single mmo and therefore getting the most out of a sub are over.

Soule is my favorite composer alive. I love the original EQ theme, and the EQ2 version, and was hoping Soule would redo it. However if you listen to other examples of EQN's music, what Soule is doing is weaving this new theme throughout all the tracks. I really think it works.

12:20 to 26:30

Soule is good at the gentle stuff more than the main themes, you'll find the atmosphere of EQN will be as good as Elder scrolls 3 - 5.

People keep thinking of EQN as a replacement for EQ/EQ2 but it's a new branch of the family, trying new things, many will not allow for some of the old quirks of EQ. I would just be happy with still having EQ1 and 2. It would be nice if they manage to fit some of the older ideas into EQN, but I think it's for the best that they allow each game to have it's own personality.

I plan to wait it out a bit and see what the reviews say about it. I got burned with FFX1, Aion, and TERA. If it was F2P I would try it.

One of the reasons Im buying it is because its P2P. Everyone is on equal grounds, no shop. Yoshi the lead dev said he would rather shut it down then go F2P. Its gonna have huge numbers in japan so I see it staying P2P.

Kinda getting sick of CashShops myself, wouldn't it be great if EQN could make all the money from the real money exchange from Landmark items and not need a CS?

Following EQN as more than just a game, but inspiration for a storytelling project, it has killed my interest in every other mmo coming out, except XIV.

As a 1.0 player I have been in the betas for ARR and amazed at how much better it is. Though it will not be in terms of questing and combat as good as EQN, it has a lot of charm and given how I have followed the ups and downs of this game since the the 1.0 beta, I feel I should be there at launch, as my final themepark, ever.

I know that a lot of people here are having trouble letting go of old mmo features that EQN is phasing out, I however see the EQ devs has a very talented bunch of crazy experimenters, and am prepared to let them make the game they want. The trinity is only as dull as the combat, I love it in TERA for e.g. but if there are reasons it won't work in EQN I except that. I've been twittering Georgeson (EQN director) and I am convinced it won't have the same issues as GW2.

Landmark will be out in Nov - Dec, and EQN at least a year later.

SOE will be using the content made my Landmark users as well as the publicity of the competitions and other community events and projects to slowly ramp up, not just hype, but genuine investment from Landmark players. There needs to be time from Jan onwards for us to experiment with Landmark then start producing assets, then start competing.

The longer Landmark is running the more content gets made by us and the more publicity SOE get, also there will be time needed to incorporate our work and add and polish their own stuff into the launch product.

Hopefully Landmark will stay alive with people's personal projects, then a ramp up a year or so later with more competitions making assets for the first expansion.

A project this complex due to public involvement will take time, but also save it as SOE doesn't need to build everything themselves before launch, and after, as a sandbox it will not need as much dev content to keep going.

I am a computer animator and 3D designer and I LOVE the art style, at least for the human, I don't want to change it, I want more examples, and a hugh amount of body animations, combined with SOEmote the possibilities are endless. I may be asking for help here from anyone who has some spare time on a project relating to this issue later.

The lion of course is horrible.

We know mining at least will involve the voxel system and the different layers of the world. Gathering should be very different from themepark mmos.
I also though there was good opportunity for faction allegiance that leads to pvp with these calls, hopefully if enough people make this point the devs will get the message. Though such constructive criticism needs to get through the current wall of hate and miss-information being thrown around that the devs are having to address.

In the class panel I believe they have specifically said that emergent AI is why the traditional trinity won't work in their system.  So yes.  It is confirmed that Storybricks will indeed affect combat greatly.

Yes, the "trinity" as in the classes and the kind of roles they can have are still pretty much in there, it just won't be the rigid and static roles we are used to. This isn't taking the trinity out like GW2, but improving the game mechanics so that they over take the trinity's effectiveness.

Storybricks was designed for players to make ever more complex npcs and quests, so i guess its the variations and complexity will start off more advanced than we've seen before and get more so as they figure out what else they can do with it. For once it will be limited by the devs imaginations, not so much the tech.

Of course it is still "just" code, but it's how it is put together and the degree of autonomy and capacity to react to the world around them that makes the difference.

I have high hopes yes. But calling diffrent genre of games obsolete is going abit too far for me. I still plan om buying other games too like battlefield 4 and rome 2. All have their own things to look forward to

True, I'll be getting Rome 2 and other genres, but other than StarCitizen I can't think of any mmo or mmo like games that are not eclipsed by this, I admit its a matter of personal taste, but I've been dying for a interactive environment in a AAA mmo for a long time.

Yes, but I felt the same after playing WURM, when you can change, move, destroy everything around you the environment feels more real and immersive, and since then I've looked at the static trees and ground of Rift or TERA and felt that I was just a tourist. Thanks to EQN it's now even worse.

Sandbox worlds are simply better.

The lion needs work but the human model really inspired me to try some machinima when it comes out. The quality of the facial animation could blur the lines between animation software and a game. If there are enough body animations you could pull of some serious story telling. You'd need some good voice actors who could control the avatars at the same time though.
Though controversial, the design decisions make a lot of sense, given the current mmo climate, and how all these new mechanisms should work with each other. This feels like a logical continuation of sandbox mmos I've played but yearned for a AAA version of, so i could not be happier.
