Returning to RO, need some help
Prontera Town Square (General) « Ragnarok Online 7/17/11 1:59:01 PM
None of that is worth all that much, be lucky to get 100k for it all. I would keep them, the wind Main Gauche may be usefull for fast lvling a new character in izlude dungeons, but gauche are only of use to higher players as a slotted, not elemental. Keep the crystal blue for making arrow if u make hunter, and the ore is only worth something in large quantities, |

Charging for content that should have been in on day 1.
General Discussion « DC Universe 7/16/11 12:03:58 PM
It’s not just SOE, Cryptic did the same thing with Star Trek Online, in the first few months after launch we could see that more content was desperately needed, but all we saw was them steadily adding more c-store items, that should have been used to keep us going till the next real update. By the time I quit the c-store was overflowing, but the new content was a trickle.

TSW: can somebody explain the hype to me?
General Discussion « The Secret World 7/08/11 7:01:28 PM
I too worry about the combat and animations, but though they are one of the first things we pick up from previews, along with faces, which also need work, they are one of the last things polished.
From the recent footage the combat appears to be situational, with patterns of mob/boss behavour and enviromental mechanics, reactive positioning and gradual introduction of more mechanics, in other words, stratagy, exactly what we need to see more of in mmo combat. They still need to add more to compete with the "heroic" combat of TOR, "dynamic" of GW2 or "action" of TERA though.
As to hype, its setting is more novel than the other AAA mmos coming out, the skill system is more flexible, the tone and hopefully community more mature, there are 3 factions, something only Planetside2 can boast and location graphics seem more next gen than the others.
Finally there is a certain "cool" factor with TSW, being the dark horse of the big titles, and with no sci fi or fantasy stigma.

I have played other MMO-RTS such as Travian and Stronghold kingdoms and although i find them more fun than mmo-rpgs most of the time, the one issue i have is the persistent world applied to a base. As it can be attacked at any time, you cant just forget about the game for a couple of days, it can take over your life, you need to log in many times a day to tweak things, and fend of an impending attack, or set up defence if it doesnt play out in real time. I am a hardcore gamer but i draw the line at 24hr micro managing.
Can anyone say how the defence works out, how much attack warning you are given and how often you will have to stay up 3 more hours or get up much earlier, or skip eating out for lunch due to things that need your attention?
Thanks. |

T3 Geared [end game] + Great Guild = Still left the game. (for those interested)
General Discussion « Rift 7/01/11 5:51:51 PM
The problem is that themepark mmos are dependent on devs handing out more content to keep up with demand, with no sandbox to allow players to generate their own content; the worlds feel limited and repetitive.
Even with a game like RIFT, which I agree is a good game, there's just nothing to hold you, I've just quit after playing since beta, for Gods and Heroes, but I have no doubt that will only last me 2 months.

Would now be a good time to join? (my EVE sub is up for renewal) or would it be better to wait till things settle down?

Potential is the one word i hear all the time, it certainly can have some very nice pvp, using the era well. I hope they come up with something good, using the estates, for the crafting, and hire more people to bring out content fast,
I and my tribe leader accidentaly ended up past a invisible wall and into the 30+ regions, there is a lot of nice zones already online that can be opened up soon, all that was needed was the mobs and npcs.
The community is shaping up well, and the historical details are very refreshing.

So, SWG ends, CCP the new evil Empire, Xsyon's a bust... what's left for sandbox fans but a barren MMO wasteland?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/26/11 5:57:41 AM
Playing RTS/TBS games such as civ5, total war, etc, they satisfy the sandbox itch, but i miss the company. (Casually play the more obscure themeparks such as gods & heroes, as the community is good.) I hope that the sandbox content of Archeage isnt going to be shallow, as they are focusing equal attention on the themepark side from the fortage I've seen. |

Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising: Launch Day Interview with Anthony Castoro
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 6/22/11 3:05:37 AM
Game has lots of potential, i'm enjoying what it has, but most in my guild intend to resub only after pvp/crafting/more lvls are added, we want the game to do well, as even in the face of the great mmos to come it can offer unique things. |

Anyone here can explain more about the Housing (estate) system in this game?
Rome (General) « Gods and Heroes 6/16/11 4:18:36 PM
The estates where very recently added, at the start of beta we had camps instead, and a different back-story for them and your character, so info on them will be limited. They are still in transition, and not fully integrated with the rest of the game. The devs list a lot of things they will add to them after release, as to whether you will like them, depends on you, it’s nice to have another part of the game to build on apart from your avatar, and minions, though I worry it will take away from having more useful social hubs, such as the capital.

F2p would really screw the game up; it is light on content as it is without holding back stuff for paying customers only. Converting it would also take away precious time from much needed development in the conversion. If you can afford it, buy it now, but you may have to skip the next sub month or two, while they add the new content to lvl 40, or 50, given how quickly you'll get to 30 and the grind dungons. I would buy it myself if i knew my server would have enough people on it, and the new content came fast enough.

You know what irks me the most about TOR
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/16/11 3:03:02 PM
I am really, really looking forward to SWTOR, but I agree with everything the OP wrote, when I think of how Arenanet are trying to change questing, combat, group dynamics etc, despite how I love the story and voice over content for SWTOR it is now GW2 that I think will be the best thing to happen to themepark mmos for over a decade.
I guess I am left with oddly mixed feelings how SWTOR, I don't doubt it will be great once we all get into it, but for that nagging feeling that we shouldn't get to dedicated as GW2 approaches, (or Archeage if your more a sandboxer). |

I was in closed and open beta, despite its usual themepark questing stuff, I found it oddly enjoyable, the gladiator is a great class, the random wrestling moves never get old, and the many different weapon combinations was interesting, never got high enough to experiment with the minions much though.
The Roman setting was refreshing, and the writing on the quests better than expected. No idea what’s going on with the adult content though.
The estates serve as both a faction capital style base and another part of the game aside from your character to lvl up, and improve. It’s an odd idea, but I see some possibilities.
The minions are like those in Guild Wars 1, but in an open world, letting you go dedicated healer, or tank, when soloing.
It is true that the game is essentially half finished, it doesn’t seem so at first, the classes, pve are fine, but there is no pvp yet, 2 classes are not in yet (for balancing), the lvl cap is only 30, and the estate system, being so new is buggy and no doubt there are lots of things yet to be added to it. They are working on new content, raising lvl cap to 40, then 50, and judging by the way they changed the estates during beta they are coming up with some new and interesting ideas, though we won’t see more till after launch.
In short, I want people to get the game now, so that is has a chance to thrive, as I see some great possibilities, and I really look forward to seeing where they take this, but it will be too easy to burn though all the pve to the endgame dungeon grinding, with nothing else to do. It would be better to wait a few months. I just hope it has enough loyal followers to see it though this awkward period.

Firstly my point that methods should reflect your motivation, not end up undermining them, secondly, just because they are not going around assaulting people bodily does not mean people are unharmed by this, how can you know what direct or indirect effect this will have on people? The hacker’s strategy cares little for those caught in the cross-fire, and I guarantee they will not have foreseen or desired all the consequences of this.
Not to mention that their “cause” could just have easily be mere rationalization, we do know these people, and have no reason to trust them. Talk of "greater good" should send shivers down the spine of anyone with common sense, (or have seen Hot Fuzz.)

I object to the Founding Father comparison, the companies need to be shaken from their complacency sure, but it is unjust to drag the general public into this. Revolutions need to be taken up with solemn, sober and responsible planning and principle, (as it was in America) or it will end up like the Russian, Chinese, or French revolutions, spinning out of control, and playing into the hands of the very kind of people you apposed to begin with. There is a lack of foresight in all this that worries me. History aside, ccp and EVE players do not deserve this.

For 100 mil you could just make a new game. I love DC too, its the only reason i am thinking of trying the game again, (its cheap on steam right now), but so much needs to be fixed, soe either put a heck of a lot into it, or pull the plug, its hard to see it limping on like this, when swtor, tera, gw2 etc come out, this may be one of many mmos that will get swept away.
I would prefure a more bioware-ish game with major story, dialogue, as well as action, with some of DCs best writers, you could really do some nice stuff, maybe even elseworlds scenaros, think red-son or all-star superman, show the gaming world its not just cheesey fight set-ups. |

Rift: Explore the Droughtlands
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 6/12/11 2:19:02 PM
Droughtlands is a pain on my server, there's a lot of elite mob quests and no one to do them with. |

I enjoy the lvling, combat, estates, exploring etc, but to me main problem isnt the pvp or crafting, but that with cap at 30, it will too quickly become a gear grind in dungeons most of the time, the part of mmos I like least, that is why i may not buy this at launch.
There is so much potential here, but unless they do a Trion and release huge amounts of content fast, its no going to keep its subs or get new ones. |
