Angry Joe: Guild Wars 2 is #1 game of 2012!
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 12/30/12 5:36:12 AM
Glad he liked it, (he's the best game review in the world right now) there was some great games in his top 10 this year. I'm suprised GW2 was top only due to how good the others where, but I am not too suprised, Joe's opinions on games are very representative of the general public and also very broad in taste, and GW2 was designed to win over those who couldn't get past the many flaws and querks of standard themepark mmos.

Final Fantasy 14 Legacy Question
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 12/28/12 5:12:59 PM
Originally posted by biggarfoot I was referring to the new features planned for the standard mounts that couldnt be done for Goobue, also Grandia was a town, towns didn't allow mounts as I recall, (Ul'dah didn't anyway), the outside areas where a lot more open and seamless than in ARR which has more condensed regions and quest layout, and as I said will have a denser pop. |

Final Fantasy 14 Legacy Question
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 12/28/12 4:55:30 PM
Originally posted by biggarfoot They've been very consistent that the mounts where always for 1.0 only. All the barding, raising, armor etc wont apply to a Goobbue, and I am not sure they would work in ARR with tighter zone design built with higher pop in mind than 1.0 ever got after the launch pop crash. |

Originally posted by Smoey Alas, the Goobbue was for 1.0 only, but they are introducing new mounts unlike any others, and chocobos will be heavily upgraded. |

[Column] Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn: Content Additions
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 12/28/12 7:23:09 AM
Quest hubs do not equal WoW-clone, and I wish people would stop rushing to judge the game based on a stress test alpha with most of the content yet to be put in, as the beta phase lists demonstrates, I get that XIV 1.0 was a nightmare, but the eagerness to dismiss Yoshida's efforts is sickening.
I really do think cast bars need to go, they really feel out-dated now for dps and solo questing. I get there's a lore reason, but dull is dull. |

Final Fantasy 14 Legacy Question
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 12/28/12 1:01:41 AM
Originally posted by drivendawn I would say the opposite is true, there was no solid foundation, which is why they had to re-build in the first place. New engine, servers, UI, all new open world design, cut-scenes, the works, which makes the time it took even more incredible. You can say however that it saved time being able to re-use certain assets from XIV 1.0, such as character, gear, mob and building models/textures, and dungeon layouts. That really is all I recognise in alpha so far, and I agree that it's the smoothest alpha I've ever seen. It was because the previous version ran so badly I wasnt able to play long enough to get legacy :( |

Final Fantasy 14 Legacy Question
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 12/28/12 12:54:40 AM
Originally posted by Lexin I agree, there isnt really any point in more than one character, unless you really like to try all the races, but I find the idea of mastering every class on one guy the most appealing feature of XIV. I get to be an alterholic without the hassle. |

You can support what you want but please be aware that you may be supporting some shady people and damaging the games industry. If you want this kind of fps-pvp I would have thought your cash would be best spent of the DayZ standalone. |

Alpha Instanced Dungeon Video
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 12/27/12 8:02:15 AM
Originally posted by TemperHoof For alpha players they're even duller. I've been complaining about these trailers for 2 yrs, the 1.0 dungeon ones where even worse. However these last few are "functional" and are needed given how the previous version couldn't get even the basics right. We should get some more interesting footage, (if not any better edited) from the beta phases in feb. |

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn: New Beta Roadmap Released
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 12/27/12 2:00:51 AM
Originally posted by umcorian Incorperating elements of standard (or WoW if you like) mmos was what players wanted after the alien state of XIV at launch, but there are a lot of elements that are not WoW like. If it still turns out to be too much WoW for some, its a price they have to pay to prevent a repeat of last time.
This isnt like the makers of Rift or SWTOR that played it too safe with 2 or 3 WoW elements too many, even for many WoW fans, Yoshida and his team are learning from scratch in an out-of-touch culture and need a solid mainstream base to work off. |

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn: New Beta Roadmap Released
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 12/26/12 4:36:56 PM
Originally posted by Aalamr A lot of the good alphas would have legacy I guess (not me alas), but we don't want too much exposer to the beta, it now seems will have a lot more of the content in each phase now than we thought, which makes the risk of beta burn-out much higher. Even those alphas that did indeed treat the alpha as early accsess, and worse broke NDA to bad mouth and pre-judge the game (you know who you are) may change their minds if they get into beta and see a fuller version of ARR.
If Yoshi and his team manage to get all those things listed into each phase I'll be very impressed. |

New Alpha Video (Levequest & Party Combat)
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 12/22/12 10:44:45 PM
I understand that tactics rather than action is more of a FF tradition, but they have made it more actiony in ARR compared to 1.0 and might as well go all the way, its where a lot of mmos are going, and plenty of people i have talked too would like GW2 manual dodge or something like that.
I feel the current tactical lvl isnt very strong, compared to current strategy games I play for e.g. So if ARR isnt going to appeal enough to tactics or action fans then the combat won't be a major selling point for it, therefore the other elements will have to be promoted well, and serve as the motive for slogging through the combat.
My point is that these vids need to focus on things like housing, choco raising, armory progression, etc, and not on combat footage, its not going to win many people over. |

No explanation at all? Interesting, looks like the people behind the game treat their players with as little respect as Macfarlane does with his audience.

New Alpha Video (Levequest & Party Combat)
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 12/22/12 9:43:28 AM
I prefer combat either turn based and very strategic or full action based, this is in between alas, like a lot of mmos, but I can put up with that is the rest of the game, enviroments, music, class progression, crafting etc is good, and so far it is.
