Now in my opinion if these people calles Lizard Squad actually would have been true hackers they would have given all acces to all sony online activities. Instead they choose not to be hackers but just some people who don't care who they target. There for they make themselfs online terrorist again in my opinion.

To me hackers can be good especially when exposing things. All LS did was take away some entertainment for allot of people because SONY still got paid regardless thus the only harm done was mostly to it's customers and not so much to the company.

I agree, the attitude of these "hackers" is what annoys me more than what they do, self righteous, smug little twits that put their agendas before others, may the FBI track them down and exile them to a desert island with no internet... not even dial-up.

Here's the Kotaku article

What does everyone here make of this?

I would be interested to hear what you have experienced of this patch in terms of added or improved features, all I (and many others) have experienced so far (my max frame is lvl 24) is a lot of bugged out missions and a nerf to thumping.

100% uneducated opinion.

It's fine to dislike a game but at least have basic understanding of the games systems.

You failed to mention a single unique aspect of ArcheAge and there are many.

I would say just about every weakness in AA that the OP brings up are things that we all saw in the betas, there is no denying the LP system is controversial, the graphics rather dated, the combat dull (do you deny that?) the questing a chore, and though the OP doesn't mention any of those innovations we are looking forward to, the issue is that you have to get past the dull stuff before you see it. Many of us are worried a lot of beta players won't give AA enough of a try as a result, and for some, such "unique" features still won't be enough given the flaws.

Again this is all your opinion.

I have a very different opinion

LP system is not controversial - it is new to western gamers and not yet understood, as someone who has played AA since Korean launch to me the LP system makes perfect sense

The controversy is an objective fact, just because you don't think it should be doesn't alter the reality that many are not happy with it.

Graphics dated - not to me, I find them quite awesome

As this is subjective then if people are un-impressed, then that is the reality for them, your position doesn't alter that for them, I was thinking the same as the OP, XIV, ESO and Landmark seem better integrated and more consistent.

Combat dull - 100% disagree, AAs combat is deceptively complex in PvP

This is another issue of the game only getting better at higher levels, we've seen this so many times with other mmos in the last 5 yrs, I think it is time devs got to work on better progression,

Questing - tutorial, no questing in later levels period

For the first 30 lvls, that is a looooooong ass tutorial.

Again I understand someone hating ArcheAge - this is normal the game is not for everyone, no game is.

But passing off opinions as facts and not even having a good understanding of what you are disliking - that is a problem.

The OPs lack of knowledge of later game mechanics reflects a design flaw in the game. And I will end with pointed out that a lot of your rebuttals where subjective, so do not lecture on opinions as facts, no one was claiming impressions were anything but.

Zombies? The rest of the world isn't sick of them yet? Sorry Smed, any other genre choice would have worked for me, but you chose a oversaturated, laziest, pandering setting, I'm glad others are happy, but I will stick with EQN from SOE.

Here's the follow up to my 20 Reasons vid.

Here's the follow up to 20 Reasons I will play Elder Scrolls Online.

Feel free to share some of your ideas.

Here's the link to the previous video.

No one linked my vid yet? Saves a lot of typing.

There you go.

It's common practice to give us some warning first, yet another thing Zeni needs to learn about running an mmo.

Those thinking it will go f2p in a few months are missing that all those mmos that had to reluctantly convert to f2p within 2 yrs, such as AoC, SWTOR, Rift, etc all had flaws that prevented a stable player base contributing enough subs as EVE does.  I went into in an earlier vid, but apart from Zenimax's incompetent marketing department, the game itself has no major flaw, just lots of little ones, that amount to deal breaking for many of the more dedicated TESO fans, but may not be enough to significantly  lower the broader player numbers come sub renewal time. They have enough content, they have non tedious combat, they have the pvp, and some nice endgame planned. They are not making the same mistakes Bioware made with SWTOR, they are making different ones, and we have no where near enough data to make confident predictions of failure.

Oh, and its the first AAA western fantasy mmoRPG to come out on consoles, so everyone is partly right. (no I don't count EQOA)

I can't think of any other themepark I'd rather play, so yes, other than all those sandboxes coming this is the mmo i need.

Great video and I agree on all points except story. I dont play mmos to be told a story. It should be a large dangerous virtual world in which I make my own "story". Also the forced questing is a big turn off.

What you want then is a sandbox, which I do to mostly, but Elder Scrolls games have quests, mostly optional with a core story, and that is how ESO does it, which is expected by the fans. I love story if presented well, it is just added to mine.

Reason number 22.  No other AAA mmorpg has this great of graphics and RPG in it.

The graphics thing is tricky as I usually prefer a stylized look, and no amount of quality can make me like drab and realistic, but after playing ESO in 1st person I saw how it makes sense for the environment to be close to real life, as was the case for Skyrim, and it makes the fantasy stuff stand out that much clearer. In many screenshots and footage it can look too similar to Rift or AoC, but when you are playing the detail is amazing.

I mentioned the RPG element but didn't make it a numbered reason, partly as one key RPG mechanic, thieving, isn't in yet, and others are found in most mmos, its just that there are a few that have been neglected that only ESO and Archeage of the new AAA mmos are doing.

Great vid! I agree with many that the commentary was awesome; you've got a good voice and delivery for this kind of thing, me thinks.

Thank you, I still have a lot to learn, but I seem to have found an audience.

I had actually all but decided not to buy the game and have been struggling with the decision for the last week (not kidding here, I've never straddled a fence so much in my life... heh.) Your vid may or may not have helped me make my final decision to take the plunge and buy the Imp Edition. That, and the fact that Greenmangaming is so effing awesome :).

I struggled a lot as well, for the last few months I was convinced ESO would have the same issues SWTOR did, and while the marketing has been error ridden and post launch updates could still go wrong I had to face the facts that no other mmo can do what ESO does right now, and I really am in an mmo moord (I alternate between that and strategy gaming).

I also got mine from GreenManGaming, new to it, so we'll see how it goes.

I'm still not sure I'll be playing it on release though, as I imagine it will take some time to stabilize. All the same, I likely would have caved in eventually anyway so I figure it's best to get it now and take advantage of the pre-order benefits.

I was always going to pre-order or not get at all, as I love to watch the early days on an mmo, but I am tempted to just play the head start, then leave it till the Thieve's Guild is in. On the other hand I suspect I will need a lot of footage for later videos, so I may have to twitch stream and record pretty much all I do. I can't get away we re-edited official trailers forever.

I am planning my next video to list possible updates and expansions over the next few years, I have 13 so far that I personally want to see, is there anyone with realistic ideas, maybe seen in other mmos, that I could include in the list?

I have no time to watch the videos posters increasingly put on forums. Please put a summary of your video in your post.

Thank you.

You could always play it in the background as the visuals are just accompaniment, these are the bullet points I used.

1   retical combat/character controls

2   speaking npcs

3   art style, colours, aids immersion,

4   1st person mode

5   varied difficulty crafting

6   story

7   decisions made during conversations

8   pvp, sieges and massive numbers

9   open progression, roles, gear and weapons

10   multiple classes and factions for alterholics

11   3 factions rather than 2

12   minimal UI

13   established Lore

14   sub not f2p

15   rpg mechanics such as lockpicking and thieving

16   the engine

17   smaller hotbar

18   mega servers

19   exploration

21   *Bonus Reason *   large amount of content at launch

I go into detail and compare with other mmos, but I kept it brief, could have used a lot more examples, but the length appears to be popular.

They actually had a 5th class called Warden, but it was removed, as it is felt the less classes the more freedom you have if the ones remaining have a full set of role options. It's been argued there shouldn't be any, as the class skills are more like special skill sets like vampire or werewolf, and Skyrim player are used to no classes. If you want pure melee you can make one from gear, weapon and armor upgrade type.

Most of the points were quite general and could be applied to any of the recent MMO release. Just take ESO name out of the video and it could be any MMO.

However, i think you have a great future in doing this for living and i would like you to make more videos. Keep up the good work.

I can think of a number of points which don't apply to any recent (as in the last year) mmorpg I am aware of, retical combat, and 1st person, Defiance and Planet side 2 has these, but are not mmorpgs, the 3 way pvp can be found in GW2 and RIft at 60, but both have issues that ESO may be able to avoid, we shall see. Fully voiced npcs applies to only 2 others I mentioned, but both lack most of the other features listed, and its how they combine I focused on. I can think of no other AAA mmorpg with retical action combat that works other than TERA, I wish there was more, and mega server tech is only just coming in to other mmos, the points I listed where ones I would seriously miss from other mmos if absent, so its that ESO alone has all and none other has even most that draws me to it.

I wish. (seriously though I know I have a too even tone, I need to develop a more conversational broadcast manner)

IDK if it is everyone's settings but the view distance seems terrible ,everything is always fogged out and LOD drops off mere feet in front of the players.Other than some weak animations due to limited vertices the rest of the game looks fine.

The only bummer for me is i always need to have a nice world to look at ,not 1080p but i don't like LOD being really low.The players look great up close everything else around the player looks dull.

I would have to say the mention of movement combat not needing to be so reliant on the keyboard is definitely a good thing,i hate looking at controls,i rather enjoy the game. However there is always a draw back, less control less depth, merely r-click or l-l-click then gets boring after a short while.I guess there will never be a happy medium just choose whatever game can hold your interest .

IMO TESO is doing a lot of things right but still not the game i am looking for.

I didn't notice these LOD issues, maybe they can work on it, it may be something they can optimize, and not a hard limit of the engine, I won't say there is any single game I am looking for, but ESO is the themepark that works on enough levels, as EQN looks like the king of sandbox I want. Its just that we are shortly to be spoiled for choice with sandboxes, ESO seems the last themepark left being made I can enjoy.

Great vid, great voice (god i would like to have a british accent)

You dont need to rely on any fluff or shallow rants like many others do in their vids. Shows just how much quality you have.

Keep it up!

I can rant when I need to, but I am hoping to find a niche as more of a voice-essay maker, something like "The MMO-Thesis" podcast.

Great video OP. It's nice to see someone make a video with a more clam voicetone.

As for your points, some i agree, some i disagree, mainly immersion and roleplay. Immersion for me in mmos is really tricky, but it gets worse when the game tries to make me feel special and unique, while other players are doing the exact same thing as me.

As for roleplay, no chat bubbles is annoying for me. And rping in themeparks always felt abit difficult. BTW, is there really stealing? I know there's lockpicking, but i didn't see any steal mechanics.

Anyway, good vid, and wouldn't mind seeing some more in the future.

I put some chat bubbles onto some of the footage in the vid at one point, people didn't like it, I think there's a tone developed that TESO players feel doesn't work with chat bubbles. Not sure if its needed these days, with voice morph and teamspeak, and who knows if other mmos may adopt EQN's style of facial motion capture.

As to stealing, there will be the Thieves Guild put in an early update, probably consisting of stealing from npcs for missions and a crime system, I imagine it would be rather hard to pull off for pvp.

  1. This video touches on subjects and only emphasizes possible strengths while ignoring it's weaknesses
This is a video about why I bought the game, so of course I am going to list the strengths, I have been very critical of the game in the past, and thought I would address my change of heart. The weaknesses as I said in my Core of the Lore Pt.1  video are small, and unlike all other comparable mmos, there is no deal breaking weakness for me such as bad questing or combat.
I may do a "20 flaws in ESO" video, but a lot of people have already covered them so many times, that's the reason I am getting such positive reactions from many places for this vid, I leave all those tired points out. i don't ignore these flaws, and if you pay attention I still mention a number of issues with the game, and Zenimax's behavior.
  1. The circle jerk is forever strong.
People agree with my points, there is no need to be vulgar about it.
Honestly All your points can be debated.  The graphics are about on par with Age of conan which came out in 2009 yet AOC has a longer draw distance, ect.  The voice acting is ok, sometimes it BREAKS immersion.  i could go on and on...
So can I, I have degrees in design and computer animation and see subtle but important technical and art design improvements ESO has over AoC, but they are close due to the fact that not much time has passed between their development bearing in mind mmos cannot progress as fast as other genres due to more limitations. And anyway I wasn't claiming the graphics are unique or ground-breaking, but that the art style is appropriate for the other factors that aid immersion. Voice acting is tricky to get right for every scene, but its better than walls of text constantly breaking immersion.
I mean circle jerk all you want.
Just do it alone. in the confines of your home.
The only people who are joining the circle jerk are fans already and wouldnt disagree unless someone paid them with another form of shiny.
FYI i pre ordered.  lets just not be delusional amongst ourselves.
Delusion is not a term justified by any of your criticisms.
It plays nothing like ES games of the past.
The questing layout, and certain weapon's combat where very similiar for me to Skyrim's, (eventually) and of course as an mmo there will be differences but for e.g. I had a sudden encounter with a Daedric Prince in Daggerfall that felt identical to one I had in Skyrim the week before, so much so that I forget which was in which game. As I addressed in my video it is unreasonable to expect too many similarities, but it is far closer than any other mmo by far, and yes I think it can be closer, and will be campaigning for such changes, but plays "nothing" like TESO games?.
The lighting is decent. textures and animations are sub par.  It's the same hamster wheel quest grind hub mode as all mmo's of the past, ect. ect. ect. ect.
I don't remember more than perhaps 2 if even that quests picked up at once from major areas, most quests were found through exploration, or triggered chains like in TSW, can you show me screengrabs of multiple npcs with quest indicators in the same area as in a WoW village?

Please calm down and stop talking like an angry 10 year old boy on his Xbox shooter teamspeak.
