This thread is made even funnier, because AQ back in the day built a keep using the auto-build to get over 20something mil HP back when it was in game.  The GM's later actually LOWERED the amount of HP down to the maximum legal amount.  So there is a precedent for lowering the keep HP to the accepted level.  The fact they aren't doing it is just more shady dealings to keep every sub they have.  If the GM's had any honor they would lower the keep HP to the legal limit like they did before.

To this all I can say is... Life is Feudal.

uh and if you dont aim at your target, your char WILL NOT turn around to hit the target. no idea what you played there, but it surely wasn't ESO

To clarify some confusion about this, I did a lot of testing specifically with bows.  What I found is this:

If I had no target aggro'd then my arrow would go wherever I was aiming at.

If I had a target aggro'd and it was in bow range, my character automatically spun around when I turned around and faced the other way from the mob.  I could not miss.  I played the game and this happened.  I'm sure I will be able to replicate it in 2 weeks.

This is NOTHING like the other Elder scrolls games.  My complaint is that questing is poorly implemented compared to other titles, despite being a big budget title.  But even with predictable questing (and the ES games do have some cookie cutter quests along with more interesting ones) the combat in ESO is terrible so it makes the bad quests seem even worse.  You can't "miss" a class skill or a weapon skill if you are in range, and you can't miss a basic attack (tested with a bow) if your target is aggro'd.

I do, it is what has been missing in MMOs IMO.

Which themepark MMO is missing brainless questing?

Serious question.  I did maybe 50 quests this weekend, and every one was more or less the same:

1.  Go here, talk to this guy.

2. Go there, talk to this other guy.

3.  Go to the third spot and kill something for a shiny.

4.  Use the shiny to save the day, then go back and talk to that guy again.

It's all totally boring stuff that just feels like one chore after another.  The quest writing is REALLY bad.  Contrast this with other themeparks like 'The Secret World' which is a similar, but at least a lot of the quests had interesting puzzles or something to break the mould (and that game utterly failed).  ESO quests seem like they were written by 14 year olds, who were aiming at 10 year olds as their target audience.  No intelligence whatsoever.

I'm a huge fan of ES single player games, but this is _nothing_ like the sandbox feel of those games.  It doesn't help that combat is terrible:  you literally don't have to aim at anything.  If you point your target reticle 180 degrees opposite your enemy, your character will automatically turn around and never miss the target.

I can only imagine the kind of person who enjoys this type of progression as someone who has never played a themepark in their life.

Even Henrik himself has said that prediciton will never be perfect in this kind of massive game with skill based combat... and in my opinion, its not that bad as your making it out to be and very much playable... what you describe (someone hitting u from 50 mters) happens very rarely and it probably has to do with the ping of that person or a server lag, but it DOESNT happen regularly in combat...

You have no idea what you are talking about.  Back in beta there were no prediction issues.  The true history of the game that all beta vets know is that sometime just after release, SV released a patch that completely broke the game.  The devs openly admitted to us (privately) that they couldn't figure out what changed, and couldn't fix it back to the way it was.

Combat in beta was good... it was like the way darkfall is now - the person was actually where you saw them.  And speaking of Darkfall there you see combat with no prediction issues.  Planetside 2 - HUGELY massive combat with no prediction issues.  It's the coder + a shitty engine that is the problem, not the scope of the game.

I already pointed out that in the combat video that this thread is about... the guy blocking is always blocking in the wrong direction. This kind of shit never happens in other, much more massive games.  50 meters no, but 10 meters yes all the time.

Hey, it's also possible to win unfair fights and for this alone, it's great in my book. The player in this video is solo against an army.

Those who think mo's combat is bad are only comparing it to none mmorpg games like chivalry, mount and blade, wotr... of course those games have better combat. Ask those devs to make an mmo and their game won't look nearly as good combat wise.

You can't possibly name me one mmorpg that has a better combat than MO right now. It was probably bad before, but today, it's different and a lot better. You will probably say DF and il agree with you, but i won't even play DF UW for free coz it lacks in the sandbox department, it has no content other than combat and and it's nothing like the old DFO which was a game sent by god.

I won't judge you if you name me one target based mmorpg, but i can tell you why it's not better based on my past experience with those games.

The real problem of MO lies in the balance and mages. I hate the fact that mages don't need to aim their shots like everyone else. As for the balance, we mostly see heavy armored players going in. I rarely see a light armored player in melee and i never once seen a foot archers. I only see 3 templates: Heavy melee(1h pike, 2h spear, 2h sword/axe/mace) Mounted archers hybrids(magic + melee) and naked or nearly naked mages(I never seen a mage in robe)

I suspect this post is a troll, but I'll bite anyway.

1.  The guys he fought, fought one at a time almost the entire time.  So all he did is win a long string of 1v1's then pot/bandage to full between each iteration.  His poor opponents didn't even know how to pot/bandage.  They are from RP guilds that don't really teach their players PVP - that's on them but that's the truth.  I played a foot archer back in the day, and you would have run before getting to the top of the hill.  These players were bad.

2.  DF combat is better than MO combat by a mile.  First you have the engine:  In darkfall the players are actually where you see them.  In MO there is massive 'prediction' so you can fake move one direction and your character will spring forward, meanwhile you are actually going a different direction.  If you know how to abuse this, you can easily get around blocks (as was the guy in the video - notice his enemy was almost always blocking the wrong direction?).  Magic in DF blows away MO magic (though DF1 was better than UW).  I actually love archery in MO and think its better than DF... the current player base must be clueless because foot archer support is crucial in any serious fight.  Although MO will never again have battles on the scale of what it once was.  DF1 combat was WAY better than Mortal.  DFUW is still better but the class system was a terrible call.

3. DF doesn't have sandbox stuff.  Mortal is better at this, but the sandbox stuff in Mortal is still very shallow.  Housing is OK and you get some utility.  There is no point to territory control, you don't get anything out of it other than the opportunity for more fights.  Crafting is better than average in MO, and this is the direction that other games should go in, but its FOTM in Mortal since day 1.  The single dev doesn't grasp how to balance his numbers.  Have you even been in a dungeon in Mortal?  Post that vid so we can all laugh.

4.  The mortal world looks like shit.  Meshes don't match up.  The autogenerated rocks form at unnatural angles.  There are holes in the mesh where you fall through the world.  You can still abuse a bug to turn lighting on in caves and dungeons.  You can still abuse a bug to remove water effects while fighting in water.  (Both reported by me in beta, among others)  There are still dupes in the game that involve packet manipulation.  The entire alchemy system was reverse engineered by a few people using memory hacks.  I could go on and on...

Better kickstart idea:  Let's have a kickstart campaign to buy out the DF 1.0 codebase, make it open source and available to all, and see what kind of awesome games can be built from it.

AV can have their shitty DFUW code.

Open discussion. The only replies I'll make are asking for clarity and a summary.

I recently resubbed my crafter account to check out pop...  game was dead, unsubbed it again.

I think you are under a false assumption that content is the reason most people left the game.  Sure more dungeons are nice, etc.  But it is the game's core design that is the issue.

What we want is sandbox class design.  No preset roles, just DF1 but with some limitations to how many 100 skills you can have and which skill trees you can go into.   Basically some combination of Mortal Online's limited skill points system + DF1.

Crafting in DFUW (and DF1) is a joke.  Totally uninteresting cookie-cutter system.  Bring in some system where unique items can be made dynamically.  Linear - grind 100 of this - crafting systems are total shit.

The prowess system is interesting but flawed.  My main char had like 100k prowess and I had every feat done through terrors (even then I only have one class fully maxed out).  It got to the point where I wanted to try other classes, but the only way to get enough prowess was to kill hundreds of the next level mob above terrors.  It's fucking _boring_ doing those grinds, and for pretty shitty drops usually.  They should have weighted easy mobs more heavily with prowess.  End game mobs should be +20% more prowess than early mobs, not +10000%.  Allowing a prowess reset won't bring me back because I will still have to deal with grind that is simply dull in order to try more play styles.

The most fun part of DF1 (instant repeatable content) was small-scale city-raiding.  That has all but disappeared in DFUW. Even with tower damage reductions it hasn't helped.  Towers in DF1 were merely alarm systems, and that's how it should have stayed.

My recap:

1.  Completely redesign the class system into a sandbox one.

2.  Completely redesign crafting system into a sandbox one.

3.  Prowess system is good, but change weighting to reward newbs and mid-tier more heavily.  Make mobs worthwhile to kill.

4.  Make cities dangerous to live in and fun to raid again.

As none of these things are going to happen...  I'll sit it out until DF3.

I subbed my crafter account a couple days ago just to poke my head in and see....

Absolutely dead game.  When I left a few months ago it was hard finding decent fights - often had to roam for an hour to find one.  Now it is straight empty everywhere.

People on the DF forums talking about subbing the asian server just to have some pop.

Do yourself a favor and don't believe either of us... The game is F2P. Try it for yourself and find out.

You will see 10-20 in most towns, I just did it.

Maybe 100 people on the server at any time.

The game is dead. Sorry.

Don't listen to this guy. There are a bunch of people on this particular forum who will say nothing but negative things about the game. Most of it is completely untrue.

The population is strong at the moment. There were several huge battles this weekend with hundreds of players participating. My alliance had over 90 people in our teamspeak alone and the enemy force was quite large as well. If large scale battles and territorial control is your thing, this is the game for you.

What this guy is leaving out is that the 'war' going on right now is only between two sides, and those sides are basically the entire server.

I doubt very much he could prove there were more than 90 people on the battlefield.  (and even if there were - could MO actually render them all? )

And the vendors spawned on the roof on the other building...  Can't believe they still haven't figured out basic x-y-z axis positioning of mobs/npcs.

There is no way to twist this news, however positive it may be, that people on this site will not attack. There is an unhealthy hatred for MO on this forum... borderline obsessive.

Spoken like someone who knows nothing of the history of the game.

I actually tried to download the game again recently to see where it's at...  as soon as I realized I have to download years of patches after the initial download, I just deleted everything.  How can a company be so inept as to not have a 'snapshot' release that includes recent patches.

If people on steam have to download patches for two days after the initial download, the backlash will be intense.

So me and two friends of mine are considering getting DFUW as we are MMOplayers who prefer open world combat and all that. So... do you think the game will be worth getting? Are there any overpowered classes? I was reading how you pick a primary and a secondary class, I am guessing going skirm (guessing this is a more mobile class) and primalist (healer?) would be okay if you wish to kite? Also I read on the forum that some big patch went in yestarday or so, what was the changes or where can I read about them? Also can we survive with 2-3 player group at start or should we try to find a clan asap?

Any reading tips or information (even opinions on the state of the game (gasp)) is appreciated. :)

Today alone will be worth 40$ if the game launches without major hiccups.

Warrior is the FOTM role right now.

You can't mix roles, but each role has 2 schools and you pick one to be primary.

Find a clan asap, and have them teach you keyboard bindings first.

Old Timers Guild will give you a Werther's Original if you join them...

At the end of part two you talk about buying boosters vs. stats.  You mention buying strength in addition to wisdom as a priority. Actually a primalist would probably want to raise strength, dex, and int in even levels after first maxing wisdom.  Not just HP is important but also gains to stam pool and mana pool.  Better to get cheap additions to all pools than focus on expensive additions to just HP.  I'd say int is probably the second most important primalist stat for both mana pool and staff damage.

This game is so funny... im far from being a 'hacker' yet I just checked (and reported it a while back) and you can still manipulate the client and hit over 140 with the weakest bow/swords ingame. Game is so lol

Also funny is the fact that the only reason anyone knows anything about the potion making system is that one hacker datamined all the potion mats by reading RAM and figured out every multiplier in game - and the information slowly leaked out and that is why anyone has knowledge about the potion system.

When guilds like IX did their 'testing' already lots of information had leaked.

But does the game or movement of our character still run choppy and not smooth as, like say, a world of warcraft type smooth?

This is a major turn off for me for DF. The game just isnt smooth and just feels to clunky/stuttery even though my pc is very nice for gaming.

The big factor I've noticed when people complain about this is lack of vram.

People with 1 gig video cards get the choppiness (my old one was 1 gig and I got it).  Now I have 3 gig card and don't get the chopiness at all.

Horses can now jump...  it's great when games re-add content from beta.
