Agreed with Takata5. There are some games for the cube I would never pay full price for, but would certainly pay bargin-bin price for.

What was first, the chicken or the egg?
Off-Topic Discussion « General Discussion 11/30/06 11:11:04 AM
Well, it is conceivible that there were other species before chickens, and it's also equally conceivible that these prior species had eggs, so egg would thus be first.
Now if the question is 'What came first, the chicken or the chicken egg?' is different. Here's a possible answer to the question you ment to ask: Chickens were around longer than we termed them 'chickens', or were possibly even aware of them as a species, so you could say that eggs where 'known' before 'chickens'. Yeah, it's a stretch, but why not? |

But, lets be honest here, there are actualy people who are willing to use such a service, illegal or not. It's the beauty of choice. They have the choice to use it. Showing that the choice is there isn't necessarily wrong. Go watch TV. It shows people shooting other people all the time with guns, drug use, and countless other illeagal things every day. So, should we chastise the broadcasters for this? Maybe. What about all the people who actually want to see this? In a really broad sense, what if someone wants to go buy a gun and shoot someone? They do have that choice, and if they do, they get the consiquence related to it. It's not the broadcasters fault that some dude shot someone because they saw it on tv. The dude made that choice. I guess, as you can tell, I'm pretty liberal (not as in policital party). But the same could apply here. MMORPG.com isn't telling you to go buy ingame resources for real money, just like the newspaper ad isn't telling you that you have to buy stuff from Futureshop by MacMacMall just because there's an ad in the paper. It just happens that some people are ok with this and if they are, should they not have the choice? Oh, and Hail to a fellow Nova Scotian! I grew up in Waverley/Bedford. |

I think the bigger issue is paying 60+ dollars for a game that you only play for a week or two and don't even finish. I'm a big zelda fan, so for me the cost is definaltly worth it, since I'll play the game at least a few times, and one of my kids does too.
Replay ability is a big factor for us, often times a deciding factor. The simple solution to this is to rent games before you buy. If it's good enough to rent again more than once, it's probably good enough to buy. |

What games do you think should be in the list, that aren't, that fit the criteria?
The lack of a spellchecker in the post box frees the one in your head to flourish, but seriously, it would be handy. |

There are three good reasons why this is not the case:
1. Controlling the fizesize of the avatar controls the maximum bandwidth to be used by the avatars on thread pages. Not everyone has highspeed, and I'm sure they don't want to wait for 25 100kb avatars, that's 2.5MB worth of avatars! And that's not even including signatures, take for example that batman running with a bomb: 430kb alone. Then there are the flash advertisements, the base images for the site. It all adds up. 2. Broken links to offsite avatars can lead to page load slowdown while the browser is looking for the avatar (doesn't apply to all browsers, but some) 3. Image Dimensions would cost more server time to either figure out, or if not bothered at all, some people will inevitably make avatars 500x500px, which, well, sucks. |

You cannot see a list of threads that you are subscribed too, although it is a good idea.
Subscribed threads will email you an alert when someone has posted to it. |

Wii for sure. New Zelda, and all the great games from yesteryear.
From the direction of this thread, it looks like there is a clear favorite. |

And to add: Lefties are smarter, so lefties can easily accomidate a backwards right-handed society.

I actually think right-handed keyboards/mice are fine (being a left-hander)... and I'll tell you why...
1. I work in the visual arts field, and often use a tablet when I work, so being a leftie, I can paint with the tablet and hold my mouse at the same time. 2. Since a large majority of games out there are WSAD (or some equivilent) that places the keys in my left hand (where I have the best reflexes). Now the argument that this now leaves my right hand with the mouse is valid, but given enough time and patience, anyone can learn to control the other hand equally. The points: Doesn't really matter. Anyone can learn to switch hands if need be. And every left handed person I have met though work and other wise doesn't bother switching the mouse side or use any special hardware. |

Why in the heck do websites have to be so complicated?
Programming « Developers Corner 9/04/06 7:55:53 PM
I think that might be the issue right there. It's always going to seem hard/complicated if you don't know the language or process. http://www.hotscripts.com/ seems to have a large variety of stuff. |

Can we get a spellchecker for the editor?
Site Suggestions « General Discussion 9/04/06 7:43:43 PM
Yes, the browser makes a difference. If you look at the javascript for the editor, you will see:
if(isIE){ insertImg(lblCut,"cut.gif",...); }insertImg(lblCopy,"copy.gif",...); insertImg(lblPaste,"paste.gif",...); I can comfirm that Firefox allows Ctrl+V pasting aswell, even without the toolbar buttons. |
