[Preview] MechWarrior Online: A Rush of Nostalgia
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/10/12 6:22:09 PM
SOOO your saying MWO is a computer version of the table top Battletech, as close as it could be....GOOD! I am getting so tired of all this 'innovation' crap people spit out all the time. Why can't someone just build us a good computer version of what we all used to play and love back then? Why does it always have to be innovative, new, different? Really, I played several of the Mechwarrior games, played the Mechwarrior rule set in TT too, and neither of them grabbed me like the original Battletech TT ruleset did. If MWO is true to the statements on here, that it does in fact try and adhere to the TT ruleset for Battletech then I say they got a hit, dont mess it up.

Just havinng an appropriately sized sample pool does not automatically make the poll an accurate representation. Take a political poll in the US that polls on a certain topic. If all of thier sample is in the same area in NYC it will have an entirely different outcome than the same sampling size from rural OK. The same is true with Xfire. True, you may have a decent sized polling group, but if all of the people who use Xfire have a particualr taste in games compared to those that do not use it, then you sample will be biased from the start. Me, I dont use xfire, but I have been gaming since before the internet was born (yes I was gaming off tapes on PCs that didnt even have graphics yet, let alone a modem to connect to an internet).

Originally posted by kaiser3282 Ok, lets set the stage for you Kaiser, I am an Engineer by trade. I am the guy that keeps your internet working, the backbone of your gaming world. I know FAR more than you do on what causes the lag in these games than MOST on the planet, I have been doing this since the internet was invented (yes I am that old). I do know what causes lag and what is slow performance on my own PC (there is by the way NO performance issues on my own PC, my bet is you, your mommy and your daddy combined couldnt even afford to buy what I have in my home office and play my games on). So lets cut the bullshit friend shall we. You are having a bad day because your game of choice is not perfoming to the 100% specs you thought it should be and everyone is seeing it. Dont come on here calling everyone a liar because you are having a bad day. Personally I think everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE on these forums has been VERY patient with you and YOUR attitude in the past couple of hours. But that patients is starting to run VERY thin with some of us. Cut it out, go shopping, go watch TV, go do something, ANYTHING that will get you away from your current anger issues, because I for one am at my ropes end just reading the trash you are dumping out of your lips on here. You dont know me, dont assume you do. You have no right to do so. And yes I am taking this personally, you swung the first attack against me to help further your trash comments against others. Sorry to burst your bubble bud, but I am not the kind to sit idly by and just take it. TIme for you to shut up. My comments were a reflection of my own personal experience and the knowledge gathered from reading EVERY SINGLE POST ON THESE FORUMS IN THE PAST 2 HOURS. Combine that with the phone conference I have up right now with 9 of my player friends from around the world telling me what they too have experienced so far. |

I dunno, I'm having fun on here while I wait. Just checking the history on people defending this stuff on GW2. You would be AMAZED to see all the negative posts they slammed towards every other game in the past 2 years, for the same stuff they now count as irrelivant. Oh the hypocrisy!! Oh I know, another BIG SHOCKER!

Originally posted by Mors-Subita I remember wackin on a node of copper, bending over to pick it up and never standing up again, never getting the ore, and then never being able to loot anything else until I logged out and back in again. This didnt just happen the first day of WoW launch either, it continued for near a month. But that was ok, since we had so many days of not even being able to stay connected that Blizz gave us all free months to hang around so they had time to fix stuff. |

Originally posted by Syno23 Funny thing hind site is huh. At this time on the GW2 launch, no crashes (can't tell, can't log in), no queue times (can't get past the login server to get into a queue if they had them), just log in and play with a good connection (those that did get in earlier to snag a server slot and make characters were met with tons of lag, some got disconnected it was so bad). Oh and last but not least, couldnt' get in until all of our names were gone (I got in 14 minutes after 0:00 PST headstart launch time, all but 4 servers were already full, and the one I did get on.....6 of my 10 desired names were already taken - and since your stuck with the server you pick BEFORE you can see if all your names are gone, you have NO choice but to take whats left or make new ones).
So to quote your OP....That's no way to start a launch.................... |

One thing GW2 has done to consistently raise the bar

Originally posted by Praetalus When I logged in about 5 hours ago there were only 4 servers that were not listed as full, only 4 I could even make my home server. I picked one and snatched my 5 names then logged out of the game. I tried logging back in moments later to play one of them and got the login server not up issue. It wouldn't surprise me if they manually turned down the login server to new players while they add more servers to the list, thereby keeping people out until they are ready for them. There may in fact be people playing right this moment who logged in while they had it up. Has anyone seen a login queue yet? If not I'm gonna bet on them taking the login server offline to control the wave. |

Originally posted by cooper85 Anyone who goes into GW2 planning on 'leveling up' with the goal of reaching cap is an utter fool. It really is that simple. It has been stated time after time that GW2 does NOT have an END GAME. So why anyone would try and push thier leveling experience is just crazy dumb. By the time you hit 30 of 80 you have all your quickbar slots open, and if you did something besides race for XP, you probably already have a really good set of traits and skills to work with. |

Originally posted by DarkDemon69 Are they actual bugs they wont listen to the CB testers on, or is it crap the testers FEEL the game SHOULD be like and demanding FUNCOM change it to please them? I only ask because I have been in over 10 closed Beta and Alpha testings over the past 3-4 years, and the forums are usually trashed by people who think thier vision is more important than the vision of the game writers themselves. And then they get all kinds of mad if the devs dont do what they want, which of course they refer to as bugs, just to try and get support to go against the game later. |

The BWE2, what class did you like best POLL
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 6/11/12 9:30:45 PM
The first BWE I tried them all but the elementalist, none of them stuck with me at all. The second BWE I decided to go back and try a few of them out again, but with different playstyles. And I finally found my match, a ranger. But dont get confused here, I played the first BWE on the ranger for 15 levels and it was like pulling teeth boring as all get out with ranged and pet play style. So to change it up in this BWE I gave her a two handed sword on one set and a single handed sword with a horn on the other set. You talk about fast moving, tons of fun, especially if you can get really good at swapping weapon sets with the cooldowns in combat. Flying into combat from a distance, tossing out AoE swings from the big sword when needed, dodging all around your apponent when single, in and out of range to them, attack/recharge speed boosts, confusion like you can't imagine to your opponent in WvW. If you haven't found a class you like, do yourself a favor and go back to them. Pick something different on the weapon sets, try each out to see what they do, you might just find a combo you love. |

Originally posted by fallenlords Correct me if I am wrong here, but isnt it safe to say that everyone, eventually, will complete the skill wheel in its entirety? And if they complete it, they are in fact able to fill any role that is needed in any situation? Everyone can at that point be said to be of every role, or every class as you put it. So how can you say they are not of the same class if they are in fact able to be everything at any time they wish? I see where you are coming from, assuming that the build people chose for any given moment would be thier class, but isn't that being just a bit naive? Assuming that if a person is walking around with a hammer in thier hands that they are a tank? You would be wrong if you thought that of my character with a hammer out. In the end though, I would have to agree with the other dude here. If everyone can and will eventually be everything, all inclusive, then there isnt a class system at all. There may be a role system, as in you 'fill a role' in a team, but there are no defined 'classes' at all in TSW. Oh, there are definaed Decks in TSW, maybe thats what has you confused and thinking there are classes, those aren't classes though, those are recommended builds that perform a certain role. |

I dont know what everyone is so worried about. This game, like every other one in existance, will have farmers in it that will be happy to sell you gold at a nice and cheap 'YU BUY!' rate. And...there will be plenty of people playing it who will do exactly that. You dont have to worry about those buying gems to trade for gold, that will cost too much RL cash when they WILL have the alternative available.

If I remember correctly, they are following the same BETA structure they did for GW1. You got a single weekend ever month for several months, up until launch. You didnt get continuous play time, you got ONE weekend a month. I would expect to see the same thing here in GW2. |

Originally posted by BartDaCat Oh...I honestly feel very sorry for you. After sooo many games pre-ordered via Best Buy, and then havng to double purchase from someplace else days later just to play by the 3rd day, I gave up on Best Buy a while ago. Nothing, and I mean nothing they can offer in Reward Zone can make up for the stress they will put you through to get what you payed for when you SHOULD have it in your hands but dont. |

Originally posted by GreenHell Well let me just respond to your post with a simple statement. It should make everything you have stated up there in green pretty worthless. I purchased a LTS for LoTRO when it first was offered at $199. I have been playing that game ever since without a single monthly sub payment. At it's normal monthly sub cost of $14.99, from April 2007 until it went Freemium on June 2010 its equivalent cost to me was $5.26 for each of the 38 months. And once it went Freemium, I recieve 500 Turbine points for free which I can spend in thier cash shop, which comes to to approximately $6.50 each month if I had to buy them myself. These 500 free points I have recieved every month since June 2010, so currently thats 24 months. SO if we do the math, thats basically $156 of free cash shop items for the game I play all the time for free. So to answer your green posts I will use all that nice truthful data to give you my response. No, I was not scammed in the least by LoTRO by purchasing my LTS. As a matter of fact, I have enjoyed playing it for 5 years now, all at a total cost to me of $199 dollars. And of that $199 I have already recieved $156 of it back in money I didnt have to spend in the cash shop to coninue playing it. 5 years, thats 60 months, all for $199. $3.31 per month if I payed a regular sub for the same total value, $5.91 a month if I payed for the sub and all the free cash shop items they gave me. If this is what you call being scammed......really. Raped by some money grab scam?? REALLY??? Sorry, but I stick by my previous comments. If you can't understand cold hard facts like these then there is nothing anyone can do to change your mind. You go right ahead and make a point about not spending $140 on the LTS for this game. Spend your $14.95 a month for it instead, and at the end of 10 months, when your starting to pay more than me if I go LTS, come back here then and tell us all how you were the wise one. Because thats all a LTS costs here, $140, and you WILL spend more going month to month after just 10 months of playing without one. Oh and lets look at those wisest of wise, Blizzard. Do you know why they never offered a LTS for WoW??? Do You??? It is because they would have lost money by doing so. The players win out on a LTS if they play the game long enough. Sure the company gets the money up front, but you save in the long run by purchasing it. |

Originally posted by GreenHell True, what amazes me more though is all the people who have never gone with a life time sub in thier entire life, who feel they have any ground to stand on when talking about people who have. I have purchased two LTS in the past, and have been ever thankful since for both. Yes, they may have gone F2P since then, and now I get perks like no other as a result of my LTS too. You, and those like you, can sit by and watch as others enjoy everything they get from the LTS they purchased. But please, until you are in that crowd, how about you stop talking about them. You are no better than them, so stop thinking you are. I sure dont see anyone here talking bad about you because you are too cheap or too unenlightened to get a LTS to a game, especially one you enjoy playing, or have played with great pleasure for years. So take a queue from them please. As for the LTS for this game, I might, I'm still thinking on it personally. The unknowns in this game are the things I need to make up my mind. So far I am really enjoying the fact that the instant gratification crowd will most likely not like this game and stay away. That is a huge plus in my book. But the crafting and PvP side is still a mystery to me, and thats what I need for my choice. You see how that works?? Logical evaluation, studying and making informed choices, thats how you should decide on if a LTS in a game is for you or not. Making childish remarks based off your own ingnorance, without even trying to see if it is of value to you or not...well thats not what anyone should be doing if you ask me. Just my opinion anyway.

And if you are somehow expecting a realistic, turthful, well thought out explination of a games finer points, good or bad, from a hater/troll...I would think you to be very naive. |
