It was fun for at first, but then the reality settled in... after I realized it would take me THOUSANDS  upon THOUSANDS of silver to unlock tier 4 crafting materials.

The equipment duration loss is totally harsh, it costs more money going and fighting in dungeons than it costs to repair your gear for going into them in the first place!

I had gold to spare, since I purchased the Legendary pack for myself, and the Epic pack for my kids(I also sponsored an Epic pack giveaway for DocGotGame).  Once the gold was gone, I didn't see a point to keep on playing, and there was no way in hell I would pay another cent.

I'm not going to lie, the game was fun for a few days, but I just don't have the time to waste on it.

In a game where the death penalty is so harsh, I see no point to such an unforgiving equipment duration loss.  It needs to go.

Also, I hated the fact that you couldn't unlock achievements before other ones.  It's just a big waste of time.  That was one thing Minecraft did WRONG, and I think its lame you(Albion Online) copied that mechanic from them.

I also think it's bull shit that you don't gain combat experience for WEARING cloth, leather, and metal gear, you only gain combat experience for using staffs, bows, and melee weapons.  For a game that boasts how we can play our way, with the limitations imposed upon us by the achievements and only being able to advance in combat by using WEAPONS, I felt very pigeon holed to use only metal armor if I want to use a melee weapon.  Otherwise, you would have to sit and rank up each and every weapon, just to use the next tier of armor in that category.

Overall, I give the game a thumbs down.  Play it if you have tons of money to buy in game gold, and tons AND TONS of time to waste.

Just my 2 cents.

How was your week, ArcheAge fans?

I got a refund for both my account and my kids.  There is no way I'm playing that cesspool of a game.

I agree that it stinks of bull shit, when they overly promote an individuals package from the Gallery, or showcase a users PvP arena, but then ignore all the other amazing ones.

It seems like politics is playing a huge role in the live streams and it makes me ill.

Although I am looking forward to EQN, I am not a huge fan of Landmark, and I think they are taking WAY to long getting fun things to do implemented (combat, mobs, gear, etc).

I mean...  how long can you watch someone dig ore, or chop wood, before you want to pour bleach in your eyes?  It's been 9 MONTHS of the same old boring shit, yet they still try to promote these streamers as if they are doing something worth watching?  I mean COME ON.

Maybe it's just me.  I'm an adventurer and combat enthusiast, not a 'gatherer-phile'.

I like the combat in Landmark, but it's only three weapons, and not very many moves.  It's been a few weeks since they were released, and it's time to release more options.  People will lose interest altogether if they don't keep the ball rolling.

Omeed was fun to watch, and I am sad to see him go.  In the end, they will need to step up and make Landmark interesting, or else no one is going to want to play it, no matter how many free items and streamers they shove down our throats.

I was fortunate enough to test this game out last beta, and all I can say is, the video doesn't do the PvP justice.  It is a LOT of fun.  It reminds me of the good old DAOC days, even better than GW2.

Got to like number 10 'Mount Merchant'...

The hype I had for this game is dissipating.  I think it all started around the time they announced their $200.00 'donation' pack.

I hope they made a lot of money from that, because I won't be giving them a cent, and I most likely won't play this game at all.

Have any screen shots for ESO?

I have been playing a few mobile RPG games lately, and I began to wonder what other people like to see in their mobile RPG games.  So I put together a couple topics which I found interesting, and was hoping people would take the time to put in their opinions about them.

Control schemes for mobile devices.

1. Taps and Swipes:

Game mechanics, such as movement, attacks, etc are all handled through tapping and swiping the screen.

2. DPad + Buttons:

Movement and actions are performed using a DPad icon in the lower left corner, and 2-4 buttons on the lower right corner.

The second thing I found interesting is for overall gameplay.

1. Turn Based:

The user is able to move around the level freely, until combat begins, at which time combat would go into a turn based mode.  The enemies have a turn to move and attack, then the player had a turn to move and attack.  Initiative is random.

2. Real Time Action:

The user is able to move freely around the level, combat is real time.  Basically, the player enters a room and starts hacking and slashing.

Personally, as an old school gamer, I like the DPad + Buttons, but since it is on a portable device, I think taps and swipes are cool too.  I like the strategy involved in turn based combat, but also like the pure hack and slash action of real time combat.

What do you all think?  What are your opinions and why?  This is just for fun, no right or wrong answers :D

200$ for a founders pack...

Are these guys fkn insane?

I don't know what it is that attracts me to the 'hardcore' mode in games.  I suppose it is the idea that there are no second chances, and if I am not at the top of my game, I'll suffer for it.  Perhaps it is my 'alt-itis' or my OCD nature to min / max and every time I have to reset, I try to think of new builds or ways to be a better player 'this time'.

What do you all think?  Is there a market for a hardcore only game?  I mean real hardcore, no second chances, no running back to your body.  If you die, its over.

Of course that would seem unfair to people with latency, or if there was PvP involved... but if that was just part of the game, would people accept it?  What about in tournaments?  In a 1v1, 2v2, or 3v3, if a player actually died, and didn't get revived by their team mates, they would actually lose their character, and all their gear.

Would that be a fun game, or would people hate it?

What are your opinions and ideas about hardcore mode, and do you think there is a place for these types of games?

I don't mind saying I'm hyped up for this game, however I am being a bit more cautious.  As we have all learned, hype can be deceiving.  I hope it isn't another GW2 or Diablo 3 dissappointment.

Nice read...but the answer was already given at a GDC a few years ago.

100% scalable content where the CONTENT scales to the player, not the player to the content.

The developer gave a slideshow showing how to do it.

player = level x with y skills

mob then = level x with y skills

if player = priest, mob also has z skills and x loot table

he then showed a graph on how to scale a mob to the player no matter their level and how the mob would remain a challenge. He then moved on to how to scale a mob to a GROUP, with skills for each type of class in the group so a mob would be custom fit no matter the group combo...and that it can even be done for full groups of 5, 10 and even RAID sized groups.

The man came up with a way to make 100% of a game 100% viable 100% of the amount of time playing no matter the players class, level or group size.

Do you have the link to that GDC interview?  I am a nerd when it comes to gaming systems and would love to see this presentation.

I would also like to watch / read this if it is available.  I do my best to attend all the local IGDA meetings, and Indie Game Nights, and would love to absorb this kind of methodology.

It isn't needed.

It isn't realistic in any way. It is a pain to fight under water.  It is a pain to program.  There are other areas of development which could benefit from the time and resources it would take to implement a proper under water mechanic.

Just my 2c

I could care less about pay to win.

These companies spend MILLIONS of $$ to create these games, and have to keep paying to maintain them, and if *your freeloading ass is too cheap to give them a few bucks, then shame on you.

* I don't mean the OP, just people in general.

Furthermore, as an experienced MMO player, if someone lacks the skill needed to beat me through conventional means, then at least they can spend some money and keep it interesting for me.

By now we should all know what 'free to play' means.  It means those who pay for items through the cash shop will either have an advantage, or a more rewarding game play experience than those of us who don't.  Get over it, or go pay a monthly subscription.

I think the concept of 'vertical progression' is flawed in several ways.  Game developers need to start thinking of ways to reward players with other incentives, other than the accumulation of linear or exponential 'experience'.

'You' may hate me for saying this, but I believe GEAR should have a larger impact on a persons advantage in combat than an automagic level difference.

Look at Ultima Online.  There are no levels, only skills and gear.  The game is over 15 years old, and people are still playing it.

Does that mean UO is perfect, and every game developer out there should copy it?  Of course not.  Rate Over Time or Use Over Time has its own issues, but it is a place to start looking.

If you think doing mundane quest after quest, or farming your 1,000,000th mob to get to your next level is the reward you are looking for, I think you are not considering the REAL reason levelling up is exciting.  It is for the 5 stat points to put into your vitality, or your 1 skill point to distribute through your skill tree, or the ability to wear that new piece of armor you have been waiting to put on.  Or maybe it is to participate in that new warzone / battlegrounds, or participate in arenas, or get your flying mount, or go into the 'high level' dungeon.

Levelling up in itself is meaningless and pointless.  It is the other things which come with the new level, which drives us.  If those things could be achieved in a different way, where there are no levels required, now that is a game worth taking a look at.

I like the trinity.  It was a fun idea to consider a game with no trinity, but now that I have tried it, I really don't like the idea of no trinity.

Give me the Tank, the Healer, and the Deepser.

ESO and Neverwinter are the only two games I am keeping an eye on so far this year.  If it will suck or not won't be dictated by the most verbose members of these forums, it will be based on the motivations of the developers, and how in touch they are with REAL gamers, and not just pie charts and statistics.

My interests may not coincide with yours, or 'theirs', so I'll just watch game play videos, perhaps get a chance to test the game, and make my own, educated decision.

In most situations 'the masses' are ignorant people who just copy what other people are saying or doing, it is usually a small few, who can think for themselves and make their own decisions.  I have found that these few, don't usually go around broadcasting their opinions as freely as the masses, so I would say your original assessment is accurate.

IMO, I would have done the same.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think you did anything 'bad', but that is a company website.  If I made a game, and people were posting stuff about how bad my game sucked, of course I would remove it.  Not because I don't believe in 'freedom of speech', but because it just doesn't belong on the official forums like that.  There is a certain image or attitude they are trying to build for their forums, and by posting or should I say 'cross posting' stuff like that, it goes against what they are trying to accomplish.

If you purchased your own domain, programmed your own forums, and managed to get hundreds of people to come to it, you could post whatever you wanted.

You wouldn't go to your neighbors house and take a dump in his front room would you?

The end story is: It's their forums, they can do what they want with them.  You're just a visitor.

I don't want to be egotistical, but for me, it is more about the level of competance, than anything else.

I do my best to 'learn my class', min/max and play at a high level, and it is annoying for me to group with people who aren't as... into the game as I am.  For example, a healer who wasn't paying attention, or the guy running after the ore node, instead of helping fight, or the tank who doesn't watch for adds, or DPSers who don't realize it's better to all focus on the same target or thinks it is fun to out-aggro the tank, or that dip shit who broke a crowd control mob, ending in the group being wiped.

Not to mention the long drawn out time it usually takes to group.  Back in my DAoC days, it would take a long time to form a proper roaming group.  We would have 7 people waiting around for that certain class which was missing (usually a skald or a healer).

Most 'good' groups require the use of TS3 ( after all they wouldn't be using Mumble or Vent if they're good right? ), which is a little bit of a hassle.

Add to this the fact that I have 4 kids, so I could get called away at any moment to handle a situation at home.

So yeah, I usually end up soloing most of  the time, unless I absolutely need a group.

I have noticed an extreme decline in the quality of gameplay experience with most of the modern MMOs.  I think this is an indication of the drive behind why these companies make MMOs these days: Money.

I long for the day when an MMO is developed by someone who actually PLAYS mmos, and doesn't just look at another company, and tries to copy cat what they did.  Rather than looking at a chart or graph for potential sales, how about doing a bit of market reserach and ask GAMERS: 'What is fun to play?"

Is it fun to go talk to an NPC, read a bunch of nonsense about why he wants you to kill 10 rats, then run to the area where the rats are, kill 10, then run back, get a reward, and then do the same thing 1000's more times?  In my opinion: No it is not.  Yet time and again, these companies do this simple minded mechanic, to waste our time and fill their game with mundane manotony.

I have played and beta tested countless games, all of which are mmo, and most have some form of PvP.  It disgusts me, how often these games are just the same regirtated game as all the others before them.  Their beta testers and enthusiasts, will make comments or suggestions, which go unheard or unheeded.  It's like they can't think for themselves, they have to just stick to the current band wagon of success.

My first MMO was Ultima Online.  No game has ever come close to the feeling of adventure that game offered.  I would log in, and every single night would have a different outcome.  I might farm gold off Ogre Lords, or raise stats in the Bone Knight Room, or maybe I would hear 'Corp Por' before a 'Flame Strike' and die to a PKer, loose all my gear, and have to start over, or go PK Hunting, where a few of us would roam around looking for PKers.  It was a world full of adventure, and diversity.

These days, the industry is full of busness minded money makers, who have no clue what makes a fun game, and what makes it even worse, is we pay them for it.  Appearantly Quests+Crappy PvP+Tits == Money, and it will for as long as we keep feeding them.

Like most of you, I am looking for that epic PvP rpg game, which I can spend years playing.  I thought it was going to be Guild Wars 2, but unfortuneatly, I lost interest after a couple of months.  I really don't care if I have to purchase it and pay for a subscription, I just want it to be worth my TIME and my money.

On the surface, it is a good idea.  The problem is, no 'real' gamer is going to want anything like this in their game.

Yes, I would like integrated social mechanics, such as friends lists, maybe some kind of an in-game 'wall' to show off my latest accomplishments, or to post my current thoughts about the game, etc.  Perhaps an event system, to announce guild events, mail, etc.  But it is totally asinine to think anyone over the age of 12 would want that kind of thing plastered all over their Facebook or Twitter accounts.

This is just another painful example, of how developers have no FKN clue what gamers want, and just do what THEY think is a good idea, without thinking beyond their checkbooks.

I had the opportunity to run a 150+ member guild web site, as well as a hundreds of member community site (for a short duration), and all I can say, is I would rather have them be hypocrites, and ban or suspend people for being shit heads, than be like other sites, which allow all kinds of trolling and political bull crap go on the forums.

So I can't say the F word on the forums, and they can in their videos... who cares?  I don't cuss around my mom, but I do in front of my friends...  does that make me a hypocrite?  We have forum rules for a reason, and if you are getting banned or suspended, perhaps you should put more effort into monitoring your own behavior, before worrying about other peoples.
