Unsubbing as a matter of fact until they start to patch real content and not the same old crap recycled at a different level.

9700 + world changing quests , 87 dungeons that are ... played, 80+ different played BG's brackets and competitive human PvP and this man wants ... content.

WOW. don't even tell me you even tried one Raid.

Not one other MMO comes even close to this kind of content and you complain.

Silly. Just silly.

Grinding heroics and Raids over and over for gear is not my idea of fun content.  Housing, collection systems, alternate advancement models, mini games and such ARE and have never graced WoW.  I'm not complaining about WoW's leveling game, that part is fun.  The questing is fun.  After the questing however, the game is a shallow pool of pointless gear/rep grinds.

Mini games have never graced WOW ?

Did you even play the game I wonder ? In another thread I explained what's the difference between WOW and the rest of the CHEAP made bunch in resources.

Apparently having NO underwater worlds, NO full 3D flying, NO real mountains to climb, NO world changing events, NO playable dungeons to acces to and NOT having the choice of 87 different dunegons and 80+ Bg's to choose from and raids and 14 professions and 9700 quests is better than having them.

Don't make it too difficult please: you didn't enter a single heroic in the first place (nor any of the new PvP content or competition).

All you did was draw the line at 85 with seeing 5 % of the challenge.

And then you post.

PVE ?

I  am mostly interested in the PvP part. Huge chunks were added. A pity the defender has too much advantage in Tol Barad and they screwed up there.

But that end game zone (Tol Barad) in itself is quite good for PVE. Some classes will find it  hard to solo some parts (even without the PvP part). The few caves in the contested area are quite challenging because of the fast respawn rates and hard hitting of some mobs.

The leveling part as such could have more challenge, but the problem there is always difficult to solve. My main - all dressed up in 264+ epics - was having a walk in the park until 85.

Another character stationed as a false twink at lvl 79 has much more trouble (around 200 level gear). I even avoided the underwater part because of the uncontrollable full 3D danger.

The 1-60 leveling is too fast, so you out level the mobs too quick which gives a false impression of being too "easy".

I don't have a clue why any one would still want to play a pure PvE game though as the only challenge can be found in a human competition and thus play on a PvP server.

We want Heroics to be challenging -- if you want to zerg the content, stick to normal dungeons.

^^ LOVE IT!

You have to admit it:

Nobody likes Gregg Street (Ghostcrawler) but the man shows some balls.

Eurogamer: 10/10: "if we approach this as a re-review of the whole game – which we should, because it's exactly what Blizzard did – then the only sane response is one of awe. "

Average score on the web thus far: 91%

http://www.gamerankings.com/pc/971498-world-of-warcraft-cataclysm/index.html

Typical that mmorpg.com can't rate it according to what the official web comments say.

You are the underground movement.

Keep it up, but it is hardly anything significant when gameplay value and fun is concerned.

"We stand in awe", nice Eurogamer, at least you gave some trash found on the gaming list here a 2/10 in the past.

Good Point Kindo..  If the LFD tool was added to help with the population problem, then maybe server merges should take place.. Afterall isn't LFD tool just artificially doing that?.. Same with BG's?

 Nope. Not at all.

The LFG tool is the only way out for the single server status of present day MMO's with such huge content as WOW has.

87 PLAYED dungeons and 80+ PLAYED Battlegrounds/Arena/RvR zones (see below)  is way TOO much to be played by the population of one server. Not even if that server had 50K instead of 5 K populations.

Blizzard was very smart to put cross server content on with such HUGE population advantages.

These days the Bg's are even divided into X0_X4 and X5_X9 brackets for each bracket (AB and WSG begin both at level 10 now, AV even begins at level 35), each with their own target public.  There are RATED BG's for titles, rated Arena's, RvR zones. That all makes up for 80+ choices of BG's on all levels and criteria...

Think about this and come up and try that with a new game ...

Impossible to achieve for other MMO's due to the limited popluation in other games.

Blizzard turned it into a 24/24 playing time fun for every gamer per continent. And STILL they added a huge world wide content on realms (to add the typical supporting MMO mechanics of gathering, leveling, professions etc...)

Agree on everything except that we should really stop using the word free because its not free. We need another word to use instead of free. :)

The expression is free to PAY and I doubt these experiments are long term sucesses. A P2P game which turns F2Pay is simply on its last legs of monthly money grabbing.

Nothing more, nothing less: it is the final way out to closure: 300% gain is already near 150% gain after 3 months (taking sampled  Xfire stats)

And 150 % gain of zero in the end stays zero. First the total year hard dollars earnings and then you can come up with real figures conclusions for this "one time to pull tric" .

Opinions differ. Lucky for me, the proposed 5 or 6 points above are in the game.

I like the changing of the world when you do the quests. It's a cross between Oblivion and old days static MMO's: ADAPT. to NEWER techniques in MMo's (I hope SW TOR will include it too).

I also think that the zone the most liked in CATA is  ULDUM with Harrison Jones and Schultz (Hitler). I was even on the brink to start a Goblin after watching that silly guy with the fake moustache.

It  was a very welcome addition between the last lvl 85 zone and the Deepholm "serious one".

MMO's who take themselves too seriously ? ... Come on, this is entertainment.

I like the present day offer on competitve PvP: Lots of choices, lots of PvP, which why I play this game.

------

--- My personal Pet Peeves ? ---

1. Fix Tol Barad so that the attacker can win at least 20% of the battles instead of 2%. Fire the designer of this zone, it is Blizzard unworthy.

2. Motivate people to fight over Wintergrasp still (honor could be raised).

3. Cheap QQ : The holy paladin is only good in PvP these days, he can't do much in heroics (haven't Raided yet).

4. Don't listen to the whiners:  keep the difficulty challenge up.

Yesterday I felt assured: GC said they would prefer keeping the Heroics mode for the more elite players: "If you want to farm dungeons, farm the normal ones". That is showing balls ...

If they can keep this up for the next 4 months, they have a winner (instead of a whiner).

I've done those nice quests you talk about. They were awesome. I'll give you that. Unfortunately, they're gimmicks in the grand scheme of things.

You see dear Faelan, those are not "gimmicks".

The above 6 step questing  line sample is based on very expensive development and designer mechanics.

Underwater worlds, true 3D  with no longer painted mountains, real time changing world events and other mechanics, they cut very deep into the pockets of game development resources.

While this is apparent in the above questing lines, it is as deep and evolved with the class and end game mechanics of this game which are CONSTANTLY tuned. See the newest patches which arrive even on a daily basis this month.

What people should do is evaluate all other MMO's and their lack of polishment and development resources before spitting out the usual Wow fluff.

---

Get over it. If Blizzard does one thing, a thousand haters come in on this site to complain. Too hard, too easy, too grindy, not too grindy, too this too that.

In the end it is not about "gimmicks" it is about resources. And it shows.

Let me reiterate here.

The increased difficulty is not the huge issue here IMHO. It's merely a temporary annoyance. A couple of raid tiers down the road, people will be LOLAoEing them in no time flat and Mr. Noob in his crap greens and blues will be carried through without a problem, so that he can go cash in and get rewarded with what used to be raid rewards.

/...

Why should I waste anymore money on fattening Blizzard when Turbine can offer a similar (and in some cases superior) gaming experience (to me at least) with the option to play for free?

I'll reitarate on your reasoning here...

Main Questing line: your end goal must be to destroy the camp of an enemy breed.

First step: you need to assemble a bomb: Can be done in both: you do a collecting quest of several mats.

Second step: you need to do it in a PvP zone with enemy players lurking around you: impossible with Lotro (no extra suspension at all).

Third Step: the final mechanism of the bomb lays on the bottom of a river : impossible to design in Lotro, because no underwater/swimming. (Oh did I forgot to mention the ring WAS found on the bottom of a river in the original story).

Fourth step: once all parts are collected and assembled, you are put on a flying mount to bomb the target from the air on top of that mountain: impossible to do in Lotro - no full designed 3D world, never mind climbing that painted mountain, it can't be done: no flying creatures either (Oh sorry if the original story had flying mounted creatures).

Fifth step : after you bombed the place there is a HUGE crater forever in post Cata questing Changing the zone to a more friendly place for your character... Impossible in Lotro, the place is the same as before, no friendly new place possible.

Sixth step: you are directed to a nearby dungeon to down the big boss of those breed. You call upon a mechanism that supplements for you the needed players IF your guildies and friends are not all on line, searching in auto mode for 2, 3 or more player 24/24 Hrs a day. You randomly meet those adventurers taking all the risks of meeting with strangers (great extra challenge like the old days of RPG's).

So only the first step of a very traditional 6 step MMO questing line can be implemented in Lotro.
-----

MMO's are on line games with a twist. Blizzard was the first to find that twist.

That's why one game now has 50 times more players than the "free to pay" ones. Stunning financial conclusions.
---

The end game is SIMPLY a game without levels but ALL about challenge and getting to those challenges is a combo of skills, grouping, and further advance the character through gear.

Be that PvP with HUMAN based competiton ranking systems or PVE with the same ranking systems against "impossible" odds for some people.

The builD is being supported through ACHIEVEMENTS with prestigious mounts and titles.

I personally go for prestigious PvP titles , the rest can choose any of those other 1200+ achievements.

Comparing WOW with any other MMO these days is really a thing of the 800lbs Gorilla agaisnt a mouse in both mechanics and content.

And im calling BS on this whole hacked story... he shows screen shots from the WotLK login screen, and said it happened this past weekend, with the rant being on the 21st of December.

That login screen hasn`t around since the Shattering back in November.   This just seems to be just some lame anti-wow rant written by someone who pays about as much attention to detail as a fire hydrant.

+1 and Upped for epic failure of the "official" rant of the OP.

Explain OP ... How is your screen shot showing the login screen of October, while you were supposed to being "hacked" in Dec ?

:)) So we should expect all the rest of the story also to be "true" ?

Part of the question should be , "What is polish?"..  Isn't that rather open to interpretation?  Chess is polished, and has been around for centuries, but I don't see people racing to play it..  Does polish ONLY apply to what features you have, and should it not apply to features you don't?  Such as a car stereo for example.. I can have a car stereo that plays AM/FM with no static, excellent reception, 18 preset stations, equalizer, visual graphics perfect.... No flaws anywhere..... However, it doesn't play cd's or mp3 or tape.... So is it polished?

Isn't a "polished game" pretty obvious?  Game runs smoothly, no clunky movement, UI is layed out well, etc...  Stuff like that.

Polish is more than that: it is the NUMBER of choices "a" player can do without problems in his game experience.

A game with smooth movement and well layed UI with NO players to play the content YOU like = unpolished to that player.

Yea there is a game which could hurt pride of wow players by being better so we cant compare it, why ppl compare wow with warhammer than? Wow is way older with way more updates and also those games are different, war is pvp focues but wow is pve focused etc..

So that's why WOW has 80+ seperated Battlegrounds with each 5 level bracket and a ladder based PvP system on top of RVR zones these days ?

And to the contrary of War .... all are being played 24/24.

It has grown so big that even "specialized" games can't offer the same content possibilities.

Try to top this kind of content and you'll end up .... needing 200 servers just to support BG's.

The only really good thing about this expansion is the levelling the new zones and the questing.  I put to you that this expansion was not made for the players this one was made for grind and profit over and above what an enjoyable game should be about.

The new mass rvr zone tol barad is full of pve, so in order to rep up with a pvp faction you have to pve alot outside of the event, if you win the event you then have to pve again to gain extra rep.   It is not even fun pve it is collect 10 of x, kill 15 of x, take out captain x.  Wintergrasp quests were all wrapped up with the event it was smooth and flowed. Dont get me started on no flying.

The PvE content heroic wise completely makes the dungeon finder tool redundant if you PUG expect to wipe for a couple of hours, in the rarest of cases you may be lucky, arguements and finger pointing are the normal, blizzard have actually managed to turn players on themselves.  Even if you manage to complete a couple of heroics which might take most of your day you cannot purchase your t11, ok sure what about pvp.

Rated BGs you gain a good reward for these if you have a highly organised pvp raid of players. If you happen to join on your own forget it what you gain for your efforts is pitiful.  No matter what happened with this game if I was with no guild or online on my own I could rely on just queuing up for some fun and getting somewhere for my efforts.

Raids are not pugable anymore it requires a dance troop routine style execution in order to complete.  This I am ok with let the raiders have their time their glory but for gods sake do not penalise me everywhere else.

This is my warning to you, I have had a lot of experience with many games including a good history with wow.  This is not a pick up and play game anymore if you want to achieve anything you will need to dedicate your time and energy into a proper raiding guild over many hours.

Once you have hit cap, leave cause getting to cap is the only content worth doing.  Try it for yourself if you like but I warned you.  I am hoping rifts pvp will give me what Im looking for.

For me personally Cataclysm is wow's swan song.  I may return at some point and for the while will focus my time on my own activities, perhaps just crafting.  Unless things change my 3 accounts for me and my family will remain shut and a competitor can have my money, does blizzard care for a drop in the ocean I don't know but I refuse to continue paying and vote with my feet.

It remains to be seen if this "hard play" will break up subscription numbers. Even the solo quests in Tol Barad can be described as hard for some classes (due to those terrible spanws in those open caves) and yes I know several people who hardly do any 85 dungeons because of the difficulty in them.

My guess is that people will stay subscribed because the more easy part still outweighs the hard "end game" part.

A couple of hard end game mechanics will not drive out the "gathering professions" player or the casual Battleground player.

It is odd even the hardcore guilds are getting nowhere in heroic Raids these days though. :)) It says a lot that my guild was cheering yesterday because 5 guys downed the end boss in a ... heroic dungeon and got the guild achievement.

Good for them, I never bothered much for this part of the game anyway.

True story,

I was in a group the other day as a healer, The pally tank, would not use rightious fury after many hails. Now the twist is, the other members of the group were defending him saying "its his choice".....I was kicked from that group because i would not let the problem go...

Now, I could speculate that the tank, May not have any group experience because he was out there "questing all day" but such claims are unprovable, and therefore speculative.

Problem is, i encounter this all the time on a variety of classes, People not knowing the mechanics of there classes. this occurs in the whole leveling spectrum, even at 85 heroics, people dont interupt, or CC.

Im not an elitist, i give people a fair chance at stuff i even offer to help them. but Seems to me that the community (sry for the generalization) seem fair too ignorant these days to care.

So no. I dont think grouping is better, and I think the quality of groups will decline even more.

 ...written in january 2005...

The only difference now is that the grouping tool lets you experience the content in a fresh new group with strange adventurers in the same playing session.

Unless you want to play with friends on peak hours.

Nothing changed, only the dreadful "looking for group" yells for that odd dungeon at level 52 no one wanted to do was eliminated or at the very least reduced.

Polish in itself doesn't make for a good game. You can empty up your house from all useless furniture, decorations and clean it till is shines. It will look kinda nice and "perfect", but it will also lack character, warmth and homely feeling.

WoW isn't polished in the sense, that there would be a lot of interesting detail and surprises. Pretty much same experience in every area and dungeon

No detail? Have you seen the circles of air coming out of the mouth of your avatar in Northrend? The thousands of living lvl 1 critters around you when you venture into the world?

15.000 recipies and every profession is the same.... WOW.

I'll try to remember it when I change my Holy paladin into a retribution or a tank-protection one. And that's just one class played completely different in 3 ways. I didn't know my rogue was a mage either.

The problem with you guys are that you lost all reference points when it comes to look at WOW objectively.

You don't see these thousands of different polished things above anymore.

That is also the reason why no other game can even please you anymore.

Because they simply lack "the multiple polished standards" you have been exposed to.

Where the hek are the good mmos!?????? I am going to explode all.

  1. City of Heroes
  2. Eve Online
  3. Lord of the Rings Online
If you want something like WoW, LotRO is your best bet. It has a better story, but more grouping. Eve is great if you prefer scifi or sandbox games, and has a massive universe that is player-driven. City of Heroes is pretty much universally great. There are plenty of great MMOs beyond WoW, you just have to look for them.

OK I take on the challenge here:

So let's compare >Lotro with WOW then in a typical post Cata quest.

-----

And to end on topic:

Notice that only the LAST step implied a grouping tool (excellent tool by the way to find "holes" in the friends availability groups).

Video games are individually played for the most part. The grouping has to be automatic and never should it put a stress on the time consument of the player.

MMO's are on line games with a twist. Blizzard was the first to find that twist.

That's why one game now has 40 times more players than the "free to pay" ones. Stunning financial conclusions.

9756 quests (99% in the open world)

25.521 armour pieces.

5.423 weapons.

14 professions and around 15.000 recipies

and most importantly: 87 normal and heroic dungeons and

80 + different Battlegrounds (since 1 month seperated into X1-X4, X5-X9 per bracket), Arena's, RvR zones, open wold PvP, Raids on cities etc...)

.

So what is interesting is that these 80+ dungeons and 80+ seperated Battlegrounds are available 24/24 Hr on every server and they are backed up by a ridiculously big open world with flying, underwater worlds, gathering professions and thousands of pieces to support it all.

It will take far more than 500 million dollars to come up with "MORE" than this.

So that is putting "polished" in numbers.

Can you get some numbers of how much it launched with for comparison sakes?

While those numbers would be fun to see, I'm not sure how they change the fact that upcoming MMO titles have to compete with World of Warcraft how it is now, not with how it was in 2004.

That is indeed the problem: the longer it takes the more difficult it will get to even speak of a competition.

New people are not interested in paying more to get less.

Leave the room of traditional MMORPG's, that's the only way of making a new market.

I see the next big hit: Call of Duty franchize rapped up in an MMO world.

2011 will not bring anything over WOW. It will all be less instead of more.

Just to avoid confusion, your I-pad has to have a wireless connection to your computer.

It's a remote screen controller.

Could it run over G3 -WAN though ?

Edit: perhaps it is better to buy a $500 portable...
