Mentality of DFUW Zergs when it comes to PvP and sieging

Originally posted by xpiher Doesn't EVE have areas that are policed and others that are referred to as nullsec? And I am not on about formal rules but the mechanics so that players can create them if they so desire. Electing a formal ruler for a city as well as a lower council is an option not a rule for example. Players seem to complain about zergs and ganking just for the sake of it. In short there is PvP with little to no purpose. If this is all there is to do then the game will not last long because it is nothing more than an arena or a very pretty kill box. Warband does it far far better and I am sure there are those out there who could mod in a loot system. If a fantasy world has no culture, no consequences for a players actions and no method for a player to become more than what they started out as then, again it is just a kill box with scenery. If the idea of having a fully fleshed out 3D world in which to fight and develop is repugnant to players then maybe a solution to ganking and zerging is 3 deaths are followed by a fourth permadeath. |

Mentality of DFUW Zergs when it comes to PvP and sieging

Originally posted by Kshahdoo I am not familiar with EVE, but with the mention of corporations would it be fair to say that a limiter on players actions is economics? What I was referring to with this game is that the devs created a world, dumped everyone in it with the message 'go kill and loot' and forgot to put any kind of breaks or limiters in to prevent it descending into anarchy. E.g. Can a singular player be elected to rule over a city by that election set city taxes on goods crafted and sold? Can he/she select from the population players to be a lower council that decides on what should be built/researched or created to possibly benefit the whole? Can players be citizens of a town or city and thus be affected by those elected decisions? Can smaller settlements near the city become part of a protectorate and thus not only be protected by the city but also pay tax and provide resources? Can anyone declare a player outlaw and place a bounty on their head? Can a ruler/clan leader set up trade agreements with other player cities and arrange for caravans to not be attacked by citizens of the other city? Can a player become a merchant and trade with other cities, possibly hiring clan mates to act as caravan guards? Can anyone from cities with peace treaties who attacks another citizen be declared outlaw? Can players set up guild houses within cities, these guild houses being seperate from those who built the place? Can cities be raided for specific items such as building plans and other resources by stealth and theavery rather than outright assaults? etc etc Some of the above can be agreed on verbally and broken just as easily but without the facilities in the game to say cast a vote which affects the majority then players have nothing to lose that can't be replaced and as such they dont care. TL;DR If you want Game of Thrones the mechanics have to be there in the game to allow it to happen. At the moment Darkfall comes across as just mindless barbarism which is a turnoff. |

Sounds to me like they constructed all that was necessary for mass battles and sieges but gave little though to any kind of political structure or social law to give it direction.

Probably one of the better reasons to stay away from this game.

I suspect that they will lose players more to their nonexistent customer relations and crappy attitude than to the state of the game. People will tolerate quite a lot if the devs give them faith in the future of the project and interact well with players. Look at Towns. It is a good example of how it can swing both ways. This company though... 0.o Do they even have a clue? The Steam forum is an example of moderating idiocy; the Facebook comment wasn't even worth writing. In fact it was counter productive. On the whole the silence is deafening. We can thank them for giving us plenty of popcorn posts though :P |

I would suggest that you get a set of dice and a RPG that is in book form and learn the rules. Invite some friends around and if your old enough, get the beers in. The RPG's here don't even come close to the freedom found in the old paper and dice systems and probably never will. I know what you mean though. So many games on here are shallower than a dried out puddle and it sometimes raises the question as to whether the 'RPG' is actually deserved. |

Warning: if you give any honest negative feedback on steam they ban you

Originally posted by timtrack Because how a company deals with it is a good indicator of how they will treat their customer base and future players need to have an idea what they are in for. The Steam forums were/are regularly pruned by the mods with absolutely no feedback as to why. There is no communication from the devs with regards to their product or any feedback of any kind with regards to future developments or current progress. They could reply to the negative threads , lock them, leave them for a day then delete (Regnum does similar although the community there isn't so poisonous). People wouldn't then have to defend the game so vehemently as the devs would have solved the problem before hand. Instead they let things fester then erase without comment leaving the haters with a full box of ammo. If they don't give a toss to that level and are shallow enough to bias the views of others by vapourising posts rather that let the game defend itself on its own merits then how do you think they will treat someone who has a problem with billing, or a tech problem, or they can't log i/update etc? Positive customer relations is just good practice at the end of the day, its a pity this company doesn't seem to realise it. |

It isn't Steam doing the deleting. Apparently Aventurine is in charge of how the forum is run and it is moderated by them. As far as I am aware Steam has nothing to do with it apart from providing the section on their site. |

It is offensive only because you can see the deliberate money pit and short life span. I doubt; no I am fairly positive that games such as this are only made to get as much cash in a short a time as possible before closing. Lifespans for this kind of product are rarely more than a few years. Updates apart from keeping it running are probably if not certainly an extremely low priority. Maintaining this kind of clone probably consists of paying taxes and checking bank accounts. |

Looks like the cleaning crew has just hit the Steam forum. Thats me out of it. I will not be recommending this game to any friends interested and point them here as to the reason why. This appears to be the only place where free speech is still permitted regarding this product. This might be the best thing since sliced bread as a game goes but I will not give money over to a company that does not trust its own product to the point of skewing forum posts in their favour. These wastes of space make Gpotato look brilliant by comparison. EDIT. From the Steam DFUW forum rules; "Inflammatory, insulting, off-topic messages which are made with the intent of provoking a reaction from others will be deleted and their poster may be banned from this forum." This only seems to apply to those with a negative viewpoint. If on the other hand you are a fanboi defending this game then you can say what the frell you want. The only negative threads still up are the ones where the OP is being crucified by the rabid fanatics. |

I was on the fence re this game as the details were thin on the ground and with the thread deletions on Steam all I was getting was the fanboi verson of the game. The buy the game then sub seemed a bit iffy as well but that's a personal choice at the end of the day. I could afford it but I am carefull with funds considering the worlds current economic climate. I have now decided to give this game a wide berth and will advise my friends to do the same. Why? Because after reading the Steam forums I have come to the conclusion that not only is the company not worth supporting but the community is going to be one of the worse on record. I have never encountered so many examples of why human extinction is a viable option untill now. Such human filth is an embarrasment to our species. Regardless of the positives and the negatives of a game a good community can always bring out the best and make most sins forgivable. I hope that the taint from the Steam forums and elsewhere does not infect this game and ruin it for those that want to enjoy it for what it is. Good luck to all those chancing their arm with this one. |

Check the Steam forums if you can. It will be a good indicator of the community and the company running the game. I am still on the fence as I don't think I will be able to tolerate the arrogant fanboy tards that haunt Steam and am am fairly positive that I don't want to hand money over to a company that is so juvenile that it has been observed deleting negative threads. Any comments concerning community and company relations would be well recieved as its hard to get a balanced view when the asshats in charge execute anything that doesn't glow. |

Lol. I just returned to it after a break and last night not only were there numerous spams about looking for members for new super groups, the raging and the arguments were really amusing as well. Guess it comes down to time of day. True about grouping though. The game does lean towards the solo hero. |

Good Combat, Decent Stories, Character Depth, and fun then why?
General Discussion « Champions Online 4/08/13 11:07:21 AM
I can't comment for anyone else but for me the game ended when my favourite character, one using the archetypes available suddenly became so weak he couldn't punch through a wet paper bag. My character was a clown called Bobo who used the behemoth arch and he was good fun to play with. It was challenging and if I got it wrong he paid with his life. I took a break until it suddenly became available on Steam at which point I downloaded it again and logged back into my old account. One respec later to take into account all the updates, my evil looking clown suddenly became the biggest fart in the game. Death after death after death. Most encounters just became a chore with a visit from the reaper being a bit to frequent. Other characters I had were freeform and ok but I didn't want to mess with Bobo because I liked him so much. In the end I though it was a bit grasping to make it so that the archetypes were so naff that to actually enjoy the game you had to pay. This may be the problem with the game and the lack of interest. Start as a new player who is unsure, roll a char on a template, play a short time before the MOBS repeatedly pound you into pate... pay or leave. |
