Hey all, with the recent housing patch I think my wife and I will be picking up this game as we both love housing, and she loves making pretty characters / good graphics / cosmetic clothes.

1. How are some of the more casual endgame options ie fishing / crafting.  Are all endgame raids uber hard?  We are more on the casual side and will probably do housing / fates / maybe light raiding and other fluff as our endgame.

2. How easy is switching your class?  Is it really just switching your weapon / leveling up the new class? no gotcha's anywhere?

3. My wife loves dressing her character up, how are clothing modes, lots of different styles?

Thanks for your help.

Don't get the game just because of the housing.

They cost million and millions of gil and you need to be part of a big guild to collectevly raise the money needed to buy even a small house.  With that said, player/individual housing is slated for 6 months down the road.

Don't get me wrong, I love this game and play daily.  It's my mmo of choice, however, you shouldn't get this game just for the housing because it's considered an end game and long term goal of many players.  I would say less than 5% of all guilds can currently afford a house.

My 2 cents.

Ah good to know, can you comment on any of my other points?  If the current housing is pretty much impossible for 2 people to achieve we may hold off until personal housing or another game comes down the line.

Im sure its possible and if made people would buy it, but the concept would just seem funny to me.  Werent there only a very few mech warrior things in the movie? Like 3-6?  It would be funny seeing starting zones that looks like this

IMO force sensitives should be random - at character creation you might have a chance of have that seeded in your toon, and at random point in time in the future it will might have a chance to manifest itself, and only then do you have a chocie of whether to go down the path of jedi/sith or choose to ignore your force sensitivity and stick with being bounty hunter or something.

Only this level of realism and life-like unfairness can prevent the problem of everyone running around with lightsabers

110% briliant idea, I'll take it

The only issue with this is that people will keep buying accounts or remaking characters hoping to win the Jedi lottery.

There is almost no good way to do a Jedi system, and the inclusion of a Jedi system was probably the biggest flaw in SWG.

They can try but it won't help very much - because you've missed the key point where I pointed out the condition that even if your character is seeded to be force sensitive, the force sensitivity MIGHT have a chance to manifest itself (which also means it might never will, or even if it does you might not know when).

So it is in essence, it is quite pointless to keep creating toons until you get one.

It is like if a couple keeps giving birth until they have a son who will be president, lol :P

I mentioned this idea because I have actually thought this through for a long time (ever since early SWG days, because I was gaming the scenario on how they might implement the force system back then... turns out their concept was quite lazy and simplistic). It is not off the bat random side-thoughts.

but then you run the dilemma of trying to make a starwars game where people cannot play jedi/sith which would almost immediately fail.

Most people want to play a star wars game to play as a jedi/sith.

Thats like making the next CoD game and saying in order to keep this realistic only a few people will be special ops / terrorists, the rest of you will be civilians that get hit by predator drones.

any word on the status of archeage?  Its been radio silence for the past few months.  I am really excited about this game.  Hoping for more info.
Anyone else see this site getting big again like in the d2 days?

You should really stop playing MMORPG's if you don't like gear treadmill

We don't take kindly to logic & common sense 'round these here parts son!

Because all MMOS are about gear treadmill right?

Anything that benefits your character is "gear".

What games would you use as an example that don't make you grind for something?

All games have grind however there is an important aspect you and many people in this thread are missing.

There are treadmill games and non treadmill games.  There is grind in both however there is a specific difference.

In treadmill games, you grind gear so you can grind for more gear.  There is no other endgame, if you aren't grinding for gear, there is nothing else to do.

These types of games suck.

In non treadmill games there is still grind however the grind is used to supplement a greater goal of the game.  Probably the best specific example are territory control games, some are better than others but just to list some examples off the top of my head.  EVE, GW2, Planetside2, Perfect word

Yes there is grind, however you are grinding so you can get more powerful and help your alliance take territory and win a global war.

Another example on the more PvE side would be how about building your a guild town with your guild mates?  Or maybe competing in PvP arena battles?  There are plenty of endgame options that allow for replay value and give a purpose to the grind.

I have not played FFXIV so I don't know much about it but it seems as if the OP was stating that there is nothing to do other than dungeon grind for gear.

If you were stating that the only thing to do endgame in mmo's is grind then you are wrong. (And thank god you don't create games :) )

Anyone else a little concerned?  Haven't heard a peep from them since the announcement that they were publishing AA in the west

The smart people at MIT just figured out how to switch graphine from 0 to 1, which was the holdup for the past 10 or so years.  Now they have a road map to create the first graphine processor which can clock around 400 GHz (my guess is you will see the first graphine processor in the next 10-15 years.  With a cpu clocking that high, will we even need a graphics card anymore?  Will be interesting to see how this changes everything.

Calling a LFR system a loot pinata is implying the hardest part of raiding is getting a group together.

The LFR system did to raiding what MMA did to martial arts.  Blew away of the BS arguments about the subject.

Raiding is content designed to be beaten and isn't hard, challenging, or takes a lot of skill.  It only takes time.  With youtube you can take any raid and make it farm status/puggable as long as you have enough people, and with a LFR system this is exactly what happens.  Which is why you have raiders in this thread saying LFR will make raids puggable / a loot pinata.  Because the hardest part about raiding is getting 40 people together.  Not the actual raid itself.

Needless to say this is making people very angry, because they no longer get to stand in the capital city with their shiny purples talking down to people about how skilled they are.  With LFR, now everyone has purples.

This question is directed to all those older players that support the "casualization" of the genre because their lives changed and they no longer have as much time to dedicate to games and mmorpgs in particular.

I know not all older players and casuals support mmoprgs becoming easier, this question however, is directed to the ones that do believe and support it.

So the question is as follows :

Why do you insist, agree and celebrate on the casualization of the genre simply because you cannot fulfill it´s demands anymore?

You admit that you used to love the older games, and that you had many good memories and good times as you spent a lot of time, effort and dedication on your nostalgic mmo of choice, so why should the newer generations and those that still have the time, renounce to their turn to enjoy the genre as it was, simply because you can´t do it anymore?

Why should an entire genre adapt to your new and busy life instead of you finding a genre or type of game that you can actually afford and enjoy?

And if you really MUST play mmorpgs, why not accept that you will no longer be the big cheese and pursue a more casual and humble approach instead of demanding for the games to transform themselves into something you can play?

And as a side question, why is it that many of you insist on that anyone with the time, will and dedication to play mmos as you used to, is a basement dwelling,  nolifer loser that is bad and should feel bad, and does not think of married players?

Were you thinking of your own generation of busy players when you played mmo´s "hardcore"?

Because people grew up, got real jobs, make more money and the game publishers want it.

Pretty much that.

Married people don't send encrypted emails to each other plotting the demise of hardcore gaming while supporting / lobbying for the 'casual game market'.  Its much more simple than that

I don't have time to do 20 daily quests every day and 6 hour long raids twice a week.  So I pick a game that I can play.  Developers notice this and develop more games catered to us because we have more money than you, and they can live better / make more money catering to us.

I have bad news for you.

Its only going to get worse.

Back in the 90s the majority of people playing online games were young kids.  Those kids grew up and gave their kids games, then those kids grew up and so on and so on.  Every year you have more and more adults with jobs playing MMOs.  Which means less 6 hour raids, and more insta join WvWvW type games.

In the OPs defense, it is very confusing

  • The red asterisk making players think they need a RSA key to make an account
  • no clear download location for the client (I had to come to the mmorpg forums!

its on the beta forums under getting started link simple.

mog station is coming tho

Whats wrong with a download button on the main page?

Where are the beta forums?  Most sites have their forums either directly in sight on the main page or under some sort of community tab.

Tried logging into the 2 available servers Faerie and Exodus.  Both are saying new characters cannot be created at this time.  Anyone else running into this?

I've got the same exact problem. I've already used up two email accounts trying to register accounts. I'm just getting the bad gateway page after I submit my registration.

I've gone over my mail server logs and there are no entries coming from the site regarding the registration, yet I cannot register again using the same email account. It mentions it has already been used. Oddly, you cannot log in, because it says your email does not exist.. What the hell?

I was getting this too, try every so often, Its probably because their login server is getting slammed hard, I tried once every 20 minutes and got in on the 5th try.

You don't need to enter anything for that token field, if you haven't previously attached one to your account. Just leave that field blank.

Thanks, that did the trick!  Can I download the game right away? Or do I need to wait for my beta request to go through?

After creating my square enix account and activating it in order to log in to download I need an RSA token, in order to disable the RSA token feature I go to a screen where I need to enter my password and an emergency password that I was never prompted to create

Anyone else run into this?

No need, because I don't think SOE has the stones to deliver non-consensual PVP.

They will, but probably on pvp servers.  It would be a poor business decision for them to force their PvE fanbase into non-consensual only servers ala darkfall.

Not sure why several people in this thread still think un-instanced housing has to be done black desert's way.

the repopulation

all of the above games have un-instanced housing that use some form of upkeep rather than putting up your house for sale after x amount of time no matter what you do.
