Sorry but I related to him i say fuck all the time and wear sweatpants and a wrinkley shirts and am a fat bastard past my 20's. If you want to be catered to Blizzcon will be back this November and you can act like an investor that expects your CEO to wear a suit and tie at the FAN convention rather than a GAMER that would like to know the people making your games are human beings that say fuck and make sex jokes.

Oh I forgot, there might be kids watching, THINK OF THE CHILDREN, because they have no parents, it is Smeds responsibility to make sure YOUR child doesn't watch something inappropriate. Sorry, it DOES NOT take a village and I AM NOT responsible for YOU or YOUR child. And while we are at it please go play another game because I do NOT want YOU in MY community.

It goes both ways and if you want to see who can scream the loudest, I am going to win...and you are going to complain...because I won.

Some people want to know the rules so they do not get into trouble. I want to know the rules so I know what you will and will not do. Then I will break those rules while you stand there and complain, keeping your "dignity" while I eat your lunch.

you sure took alot from what I said. All I said was the disheveled appearance was more than the language.  I never mentioned the children,  mostly from what I have seen the children of today are an unruly bunch, language and disheveld appearances  are what they have learned from their parents. And please c'mon up here and try to take my lunch - your dignity will be bruised, lol.

What did I hit a nerve?

Or are people just waiting until 12pm PDT / 3pm EST?

What are your fears as to what EQN actually is (versus what you HOPE it is)?

I'm just waiting to see the tears from people who didn't get what they wanted, and to some extent I fear it will be all of us.

Seems MMO's are no longer the cash cow - moba's are the thing now. So, hopefully, the developers who want to make quick money will go there, and the one or 2 that want to make a game for gamers can get down to it.

I have a secondary game/mini game running while playing any mmo to be honest. I'm sure I'm not alone in this. Eve isn't the only game with gaps. And if I take into account that 80% of that time I am either doing research, looking up information or planning what to next, or talking to ingame people (game-based activities), then that 'gap' becomes close to none.

Mashing buttons endlessly is not the only definition of playing a game, sadly too many people refuse to admit that.

When playing EVE I am known to read a book while mining or doing other things that have that gap that you spoke of.  I also know those who watch movies or TV while playing EVE. It is fairly common to multitask while playing EVE.

Best other games: Skyrim, X3: Albion Prelude, Vampire: The Masquerade, and a game I just started playing LA Noir.

Worst MMO: Mortal online.

Worst other Game: Can't think of one offhand

This thread is not about what games you think are good and bad.  This thread is about what are the best and the worst gaming WORLD's, irrespective of how good or bad the gameplay is/was. Mortal online has a beautiful world.

yes, I know that - so sorry I didn't spell that out so that you could be clear - expected you to figure it out by yourself.

I found Mortal online's world to be bland and not appealing - to clear it up, some of the game play I liked and some I didn't. The world was the worst I have seen. It is all about opinion - as in "Your best and worst game world" or did you miss the part where I get to have my own opinion?

i find EQ2's SC shop completely harmless. I would absolutely HATE having to buy chest keys from SC shop like in Neverwinter and games that have that setup.  EQ2 just has appearance items and you can get plenty of good appearance items in-game.  Plus you can easily buy SC with in-game earned plat.

I have a couple of main worries:

1.  It will be almost entirely a solo game - the latest EQ2 expacs have all been going in this direction, they don't even make group shared dungeons or group quests anymore, all solo except for the group & raid instances.  The group content is still good, but i don't want ALL quests i nthe game to be solo.

2.  it will have Global Cooldown combat.  This is probably as close to a game-breaker as it gets for me.  I can get behind all kinds of different combat systems, but GCD just kills any fluidity of combat for me and makes combat not fun.

3.  It won't have Ratonga.  It may be shallow, but i would really miss my favourite EQ race if it ends up not included :(

No Ratonga = no play for me. That is the only race I played in EQ2, and I love being a Necro-Rat.  Other worries are: Pay to win cash shop. No PvP at all.  No reason to group, no trinity. These would all be game killers for me. I like solo but I also like quests where you have to have a team to complete it.  Mostly if this game is only pve I won't play. That is the absolute. I know a lot of pve'rs don't like the mention of pvp, but to truly be successful there has to be some, and no i don't mean pve/pvp servers. It should be 1 server. EVE can do it so can EQnext.  Remember this is my opinion, yours may vary.  I'm just talking about what would kill the game for me. Notice I didn't say that it has to be full loot open world pvp, but that some form should be present.

Not sure how people react to a bounty and then farm npc's to get put of that. Seems like it would be avoided most likely, unless it was an mmo with loot able corpses.

No, you can't undo a bounty by killing npcs... A bountied player would have to Kill 2 player constables (bounty hunters) per 10 silver spent on the bounty. 150 silver bounty? Good luck :p If anyone of those constables kills you, 5 hours in jail. No you can not log off. Heck it aint easy to kill 4...

Are there rules around who qualifies to have a bounty placed on them?  if not I could see this system being used as a griefing tool so I'm assuming they have this covered. (only on players of who have lawlessly killed first?)

EVE has a bounty system. I have not played in several months, so they may have addressed it, but it was used as a way to grief players. Large bounties placed on people who annoyed you in chat for example. I think that one thing they did do was that how much of the bounty you actually got for killing the targetted player depended on how valuable the ship you killed him in was. for example - kill him in a shuttle and it isn't worth much - kill him in a capital ship and you would get a substaantially bigger cut of the bounty.

The selling of the Shadowbane franchise to an Asian company.
I believe that games like DOTA and LOL are referred to as MOBA's - Multiplayer online Batlle arenas. From what I have read MOBA's are actually becoming more popular than MMO's. You get the PvP without all the bad points of Today's MMO's. The trend seems to be going towards MOBA's not from them. You would be better off making another one of those, in my opinion.

I can play an MMO completely and totally for free.  I have unlimited bandwidth on an Internet connection that I pay for anyhow, therefore the MMO doesn't cost me anything extra.  My computer is on 24/7/365, therefore it doesn't cost me any more in power. It's not an illusion.  It's free.
except it is only free for you because someone else is paying, and paying alot or the companies would not let you play for free. So, essentially, you are someone that is allowed to play to keep the actual paying customers company and give them  a "mmo" experience. You are actually a non-paid employee of the company - filling the role of Goofy at Disney world. The company is saving money because they do not have to pay you, they just let you play for free.

People keep bringing stuff like this up as if it's a revelation or something. Nobody things that everyone is playing for free. Even games that operate only on donations have some players that pay to play, and some players that don't.

You haven't presented an argument against F2P, you've only provided a very creative description of one aspect of F2P.

who was arguing against free to play - I was arguing that those who think they play for free are actually working for free.

My opinion is that it is better to have 2 accounts(or more). The problem with having another character on the same account is that you can only train one of them or play one of them at the same time.  2 accounts mean you can play both and train both at the same time. You will reach a point eventually where you can buy in game plex and use it to fund one or both accounts. Lets you have 2 accounts working in tandem - or doing different things. I often played split screen and had a miner and a fighter to defend or a hauler to keep the miner out longer. Depends on you really but I would recommend 2  or more accounts over 2 toons on the same account.
I call them Smedleys. They grab something Smedley said and spread it to the four corners of the universe as the Gospel of Smedley. Hype at it's finest.

I would try a free trial - doesn't have to be a month - a week or 2 should be enough, especially if they allowed a sub from the trial without buying the box.

1) Shadowbane - only game I have ever played for 36 consecutive hours - only bio breaks.

2) Civilization - Especially IV with mods.

3) TES: Oblivion and Skyrim - again with mods.

4) EVE - keep going back to that game love the sense of danger.

5) some console game - never can remember the name or system but it was in the 80's - Was one where you are flying a ship through an alien world and if you get to the end with lives left you start all over with everything you had at the end - once made it all the way through the game 4 times before I finally died, or fell asleep.

Well, they can't appeal to both markets. They have to pick one, and the TES market is probably the market that is more of a known quantity. I mean, if you're going to pick a market, are you going to pick the one that's established and defined, or the one that complains about everything that exists, everything that doesn't exist, and mostly plays WoW?

lol, thanks for my morning laugh. I agree.

Turbine had with the original game, pre-moria, a decent little sleeper hit on their hands. It was WoW for people that don't like the "intensity" of WoW. And with that I mean anything from the famous barren chat to having to grind just to be able to join a raid.

The game eventually (before Moria) had two raids, one big and one smaller which gave somewhat okay rewards you didn't need. Raiding was about raiding and not about getting phat loot. I lead plenty, especially Helegrod, were anyone was welcome as long as they met the level requirement to get inside in the first place.

This would be unthinkable in WoW. Lotro was a nice casual MMORPG and was slowly growing.

But apparently not fast enough because with the release of the Moria expansion, the game took a radically different approach. It introduced an area that was literaly a dungeon and dungeon with no "run free" parts. With that I mean that in the original outdoor areas, you could always find a path with no enemies to harass you on your way to an area OR you could at least reach a spot where you can "run free" of your pursuers without picking up new ones. Not so in Moria, just endless corridors with enemies just widely spaced enough that you would always be under attack. The bypass for collapsed bridge was particullaly insulting, just one corrider just narrow enough to have the single mobs always attack you as you run past. Either run the entire bloody long way under attack or spend an hour or two fighting them. BORING!

Moria also introduced gated content, instances you had to grind before being allowed to do the expansion raid.  For people who by that time had many alts, it promised to be an unsurmountable hurdle and the end content was regonized by many as not worth the hassle. Ever since the introduction Turbine has made countless changes, everytime claiming that this time they had fully satisfied their customers needs... they haven't yet.

Legendary gear was another Moria abonimation and again often changed.

It was basically Moria that ended Lotro as a casual friendly MMORPG and with F2P it opened the flood gates to the kiddies who want WoW but can't afford it. The problem with that approach was simple, the old paying customers left and the new free loaders didn't bring in enough cash. So Turbine went into cash shop overdrive trying to sell stuff like dyes which basically were free in the game proper and finally resorting to pure p2w driving away more old paying customers and getting only free loaders in return.

The game would have been far better if 9/10 of moria had been cut and instead the time had been spent on a nice non-gated raid and some outdoor alternative areas. It had the RP market locked up but wanted to attract the barren crowd instead. Well. They succeeded.

Whereas I did love Moria.. I have to agree with you that LOTRO was best played before the Moria expansion. I felt I was in Middle Earth.  Then  after Moria came the nerfing and f2p. I went back when Isengard came out and left, and then when rohan came out and left. Then I tried again deleting my highest level characters and starting on a new server. And quit again. I doubt if I will go back. The game I loved, the orginal game, is gone now. RIP.

I quit because they removed most of the difficulty. I had played EQ2 for 8 years, ever since the original beta in 04. When WoW and Eq2 were first being released at the same time, the choice was WoW for casual, and EQ2 for challenge. WoW has always catered to the larger audience, while Eq2 was happy being the niche game.

Lately though, every new expansion in the last 4 years or so has moved from challenging content, to just the normal WoW casualness. It focuses on solo content, and shows the way the industry has moved in the last decade.

Im really looking forward to EQN, and hope they bring back some of the challenge that EQ1 and EQ2 had. Im also really excited about it being sandbox, and hope it has a really great craft system.

Early EQ2 was the main game that I loved to group in.  Being in groups in EQ2  was actually a lot more fun for me than many other games.
