You meant something like this :P

I know i know im still green but i think this is the perfect Originaltm adapted to specific requirements, it simply would not be possible without the samsung breakthrough in ram memory :)

What your essentially doing with a big PSU is increasing the transformer size and better voltage regulators. Cooling is also increased which is vital.  By doing this a lot of things change. Gives you a bigger (tank) of energy. This inherently makes your computer work faster and easier. Bigger transformer is a good mains filter. Computer is protected from high frequency pollution. I do agree with your point about power supply efficiency. They have a standard defined using the 80plus model. I think the best right now is titanium? Also another overlooked aspect is cabling. Noise and interference is number one factor in house AC outlets. AC Power is comprised of 50/60hz plus noise harmonics up to god knows. As frequency increases so does impedance, higher impedance ends of being a heat loss. Power cables make a difference because their geometry dictates how quickly they can deliver instantaneous current and at what given frequencies. I used Nordost power cables but that's your own choice.

I'm getting a headache from how many things you've written that are either completely wrong or irrelevant all together for the impact they have on the other parts in the pc, or their performance. Better voltage regulation , ripple suppression, cooling, better filtering, are all completely unrelated to the strength of a power supply, ... U can have have all of the above better in a 450w 80%+golden power supply than in a in 1200w 80%+golden power supply.

Everything of the above is only limited by the quality of the components installed, the creativity of the design and placement of the individual parts(this also helps cooling by having a clean design and/or with passive heatsinks or not).To a very small degree to the quality of soldering also.

To have state of the art cooling all u need to add on top of this is a high quality 140mm fan(a custom Sanyo Denki for instance like seasonic uses).

U make room for more advanced and bigger individual components by making a larger enclosure than standard for the power supply or by using custom sized capacitors, this however is also completely unrelated to watt strength of the power supply.(every power supply which is big enough to have a 140mm fan is big enough for 99% of everything u need to put in it)

The advertised watt strength is also completely unrelated to the actual amps the power supply can deliver to the GPU and CPU because more often than not, the advertised wattage is a combine value, and not indicative of the 12v rail watt strength, ... having more "energy" than your computer can pull in a prime95+furmark combined stress test will not make your computer work faster nor easier.

Bigger transformer is a good mains filter.

??? what does this event mean, surge protection is provided by the MOV(Metal Oxide Varistor) in the transient filter stage which is the size of a penny, ...

Noise and interference is number one factor in house AC outlets.   Power cables make a difference

??? but the whole point of the parts of the power supply you listed in the first part of your post is to do these things, ... to make power from a dirty grid clean, to eliminate and/lower noise, interference, to regulate voltage; for pete's sake that's whole point of the power supply otherwise you'd just plug in the power cord into a metal plate with soldered copper wires connected to other pc parts, ...

Power cables make a difference because their geometry dictates how quickly they can deliver instantaneous current and at what given frequencies

They don't make a difference it doesn't matter if they can or cannot deliver instantaneous current because the whole point of why Capacitors were invented and why u have them in power supply is to store energy, ...

Frequency, what frequency ? there's only 1 frequency in a single country, there's no given frequency difference, even the worst cheap cable does the job within the acceptable fluctuation, unless you've personally re-wired your whole house/apartment, you would probably faint when u saw the quality and degradation of the wires in the walls and the building, especially older buildings.

How is a 2 meter piece of a cable coming from the copper abominations in your wall to your power supply gonna make any difference on it's own ? even if it was made of solid gold and had fenites every 2 inches/cm it wouldn't make any difference what so ever for what the hell kind of wonky electricity is pouring out of your electrical sockets, this is also one the points why power supplies were invented in the first place.

How does a 500w fanless psu exist ? if u were right in your assumptions a 500w 80%+gold fanless model within a margin of error worse than a fanned model would be impossible due to heat constraints ?

For 10 years, eh ?

The first corsair water cooling AIO system was released in june 2009, which was 6 years ago, so i'm wondering how have you been using one for 10 years ?

The first AIO system as we know it from asetek was in prototype stage in 2006 (9 years ago), so it's physically impossible to have been in a possession of one 10 years ago, ...

On another note, for intel i5/i7 processors, the current best performing cooling is Cooler Master Nepton 280L :

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103198

It's only a little bit better than Corsair H110i GT :

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181088

Cooler master has a quieter pump than the Corsair, and that's pretty much the only advantage on top of the 0.5-1  degrees (celsius) temperature difference. And the cooler master might be cheaper, and the Corsair is out of stock on newegg atm.

Devs developing their games specifically with this in mind, or even adapting them before market penetration reaches at least 50% is only Wishful thinking, ...

Steam is gonna be the no.1 assessment tool for this, so keep an eye on steam hardware surveys, that's your best bet to predict when even basic ssds become a factor in game development.

Pillars Of Eternity, simply because of the story.
The $50 steam link is of course the best of both world, but it too requires someone to set up a basic home network :)

It's the golden age of crpgs again :) its basically a huge welcome back party now,  and when new Torment comes it's gonna be a rave xD

I fail to see the point of Steam OS or Steam machines. Our Windows PC is hooked up to our TV, all it takes is a HDMI cable.

Steam OS is trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. And doing a pretty lousy job at it I feel.

What might come easy, logical, and quick to set up to you, or anyone else tech savvy, does not come easy for an Extraordinary amount of people for a myriad of reasons.

There are dozens and dozens of millions of people in the world, who would use a steam combo because it's easier, premade, faster, better, etc, ... (same as they would rather use consoles even if there weren't any exclusive games)

it's All about different points of view.

A build with the 6 core FX-6300 is a great choice now, on top of everything that stands up to know, new benchmarks and tests of DX12 show that it utilizes up to 6 cores fully and 100% (mantle utilizes up to 8 cores atm).

So getting a 6-core processor is gonna future proof you by an insane amount for all the upcoming api.

The boost in cpu performance for multi-core processors is gearing up to be unseen so far regardless of if u have nvidia or amd graphic card.

Also check out this draw call insanity increase : http://www.anandtech.com/show/9112/exploring-dx12-3dmark-api-overhead-feature-test/3

We're in for photo-realistic graphics, and AAA movie cgi by late next year at this rate :)

This senseless bashing is gonna hurt future kickstarters more than the bad apples trying to scam people on kickstarters, ...

Bashing kickstarter itself is like bashing ebay, or alieexpress because something u bought of a random person non affiliated to the company is bad, or they sent u a brick instead the stuff you ordered. You'd check whom you're giving your money thoroughly or at least sufficiently, and chose wisely how much u give where, depending on a multitude of factors, ...

If nothing else. at the very least we've gotten some awesome stuff already, so there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

All industries and technological advancement and mass adoption has been "kickstarted" by a big margin already, it's changed all the industries for the better or worse, and that's what's important at the end of the day ( progress in a positive direction ).

Not a single post to congratulate, but when it's time to bash kickstarters, it's 11 pages in 12 hours, ...

None of what u advise to do instead would give me the awesome game that invokes nostalgia that i want to play. None of it has in a kickstarter or two here and there famous game industry names attached to it.

Just the release of Divine Divinity

Ok, let's go with Divine Divinity since I think it will allow me to get my opinion accross more easily I think.

It's a game from developer Larian Studios. A developer that has existed for years, they have always had some success, never massive success. They always had to look for investors and publishers.

Now that there is something such as Kickstarter, they no longer have to find an investor, the users are the investors.

That means that all risks are now instead of on them, on the players. If the game failed in the past, Larian Studios was responsible for it, the bank or investor would ask for their money back with interest.

Larian studios said they would have made the game either way, but they went to Kickstarter because hey can develop a game without any financial risk whatsoever, because regardless if the game fails or not, they are in the clear. You who invested money in the Kickstarter project, are not. You gave your money away and didn't get anything in return.

Luckily Divine Divinity worked out, many Kickstarter projects do not.

Maybe money is more valuable to me than to someone else, but as a Kickstarter backer, you are on the losing end of the equation. The backer who has the money has no rights and legal means to defend their investment like a bank, and the project developer has shifted ALL risk onto you.

How did i give my money away and didn't get anything in return ?, i basically pre-ordered the kickstarter game at a discount, by backing the lowest option that gives the actual game, and i basically pre-ordered a collector's edition, by backing up to $200. Backing anything higher is equal to charity, u pre-order a collection's edition u donate the rest of the money, and hang out with the team.

So again personally, i've gotten multiple amounts of my money's worth, for 4 games already. How did i give money away and didn't get anything in return ?

Also how am i on the losing side and financially irresponsible as u mention, if i for instance, avoid eating out for a month, and avoid spending too much money, on stuff everyone wastes money every day, and instead save that money for kickstarter ?

Spending money on dream games, projects i waited for years and years, hobby is a small price, compared to what i get in the end.

Only spending money to get more money, more power, more fame, and absolutely nothing else is a slippery slope and not a fun way to live your life.

It's completely imbalanced, you're supposed to save the majority of your money, but if u don't waste and/or risk small amounts of it relative to your wealth now and then what's the point of it anyway ?

I don't know why people give money to kickstarter projects to begin with.

Kickstarter Projects that are asking for thousands of $, no, I don't get why people give their money, go give it to a bank where you actually get interest on it and where you actually get treated with some respect.

There is no oversight with Kickstarter projects, no one knows where the money goes, but I'm guessing a lot just goes into the back pockets of people and not actually to the project.

Kickstarter does not protect backers, they do not value your money, giving money to those large kickstarter projects is no different from throwing it down the drain.

None of what u advise to do instead would give me the awesome game that invokes nostalgia that i want to play. None of it has in a kickstarter or two here and there famous game industry names attached to it.

Just the release of Dreamfall, Wasteland 2, new Torment, Pillars of Eternity, Divine Divinity, Elite Dangerous(in limbo and in work the longest out of all kickstarter games), not to mention pebble watch, various powerbank kickstarters, and bringing down the price and putting 3d printing into homes is worth all the failed ones and scam ones.

None of this would be possible without kickstarter, not in this form and way and not this fast, and a very big part of all the things would have never have seen the light of day. (How much did Occulus Rift jumpstart VR tech ?)

Kickstarter is the polar opposite of throwing money down the drain, throwing money down the drain guarantees ZERO chance of your hopes, dreams, wishes, and interest getting made, kickstarters on the other hand gives you a certain chance some of it will get made, and without getting into the statistical specifics of success vs failure, anything is better than ZERO, ...

Kickstarter is the best thing to happen to gaming since well the start of the gaming genre, ...

And the next in the long line of proofs it's the best thing to happen to the genre is coming out in 24 hours.

Its Win7 64bit

I am building an i5 gaming rig, but this system can still run games really well even at 1080p, its not broken and the upgraded ram will definitely help, so Im going to keep it running.

How do you know that more memory will help?  Are you playing some particular game where the memory in use goes over 4 GB for your system, or at least comes very near to it?

Memory is a situation of, if you have enough, more won't help, but if you don't have enough, very bad things happen.  So don't buy more memory just to buy it, unless perhaps it's a newer system that you know you're going to keep for a long time and suspect that more will be helpful eventually.

Yes I play a few games where my CPU and GPU can handle the game, but my RAM gets taxed. Playing games with large open worlds that are memory hungry.

If it's not a 64-bit game--and there are very few 64-bit games--then the game's memory usage is capped at 2 GB.  One of the rules of 32-bit programs is that a 32-bit process cannot use more than 2 GB of memory.  Unless you're doing other stuff at the same time to also use more than 2 GB, that usually means 4 GB of system memory leaves you plenty of space.

In which particular games are you running out of memory?  How much system memory is in use for those games in total, and how much is used by the game itself?  This is easy to check in Task Manager.  You don't have to guess if you have enough memory; it's easy to measure directly.

They are 64bit games, H1Z1 for one.

That a game is a 64-bit game doesn't automatically mean that it uses more than 2 GB of system memory.  Open up Task Manager while you're playing games and check on actual numbers, both of what the game in question is using and for your system in total.  Don't just try to guess that maybe you need more memory because of no real reason in particular.

The game engine leaks memory like crazy, after about hour it's gonna use ~2.7GB ram, after that it goes all the way up to 4GB

Yes i  think star citizen, and dragon age and mass effect 4 and battlefield 3,4, hardline devs definitely use nvidia cards when optimizing for Mantle.

How can u say 100% and not have a grain of doubt ? what do you know that's 100% out of anything in the world now, ...

AMD and Kronos group announced yesterday that Mantle is such a big part and inspiration to the Vulkan API that u could say it's a a evolution of mantle or mantle 2.0 :P

“Vulkan is a significant Khronos initiative to provide developers the choice of a state-of-the-art GPU API that is open and portable across multiple platforms, at a time where platform diversity is increasing,” said Neil Trevett, president of the Khronos Group and vice president at NVIDIA.

the last part of the sentence is the kicker ! you're gonna shit bricks when u figure it out, muahaaha xD

I remember cleary "people" were shouting who cares about amd energy efficiency, and normal working temperature, nvidia is fastest.

Whatever Nvidia was doing at a point in time in the last decade+ was the proper way, and everything else just AMD failing(what that actually was, had been changing so fast, a Nvidia card was "the best" because of something one month and then "the best" because of something completely opposite the other month. It's very funny :)

It's like people forgot Nvidia was in fail mode since after 8800GT up untill 500 series :P that's 5 generations in a row failing(Technically 3.5 generations, 300 was pure oem, and 100 something in between).

Did u notice the amd part at GDC explaining the benefit of their new LiquidVR, and how it's gonna enable than when you're running 2 GPUs, 1 can discretely and completely separately render the the left eye in the virtual headset, and the second render the right eye. 100% of the power from both for each eye.

Now that sounds awesome.

This looks like it's gonna be a really cool mmo to play :)
Best of two worlds, hopefully they optimized the game a bit more :)
