It gets worse and worse every year. Hopefully MechScape will be Jagex's saving grace. |

Are the youths wasting away thier childhood playing MMOs?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/21/09 9:45:06 AM
It keeps the children off the street and them from going to jail or worse. In the past before videogames it was T.V. and toys which is what a majority of the older generation doesn't understand. I remember my mother used to always tell me to get off the game even if I just turned it on, but when I just watched T.V. all day she didn't care? People still live in the 40s,50s,60s, etc even though its 2009 now and things have changed. Videogames aren't all that bad. Studies have proven that videogamers make better surgeons because they're better and more precise with their hands. Some videogames actually educate you even though you might not know it. Play a military game and you learn things about the military. Play a medieval style MMORPG and you learn about some of the things they used in the past. Also, the people who play MMORPGs 24/7 nowadays usually were the ones staying home play D&D with their friends in the past. Except nowadays I'd say its more fun which is why people play longer. |

There's been a bunch of creative games that have come out in the past that people never bought even though they were problably the games of the year. I blame us the consumer for starting the fecal slide that is games nowadays that are full of copycats, unintuitive design, and of course cash shops in MMOs. Anytime a game comes out that is creative and new it seems that most of us get scared and want our mommies to hold us. Psychonauts on the Xbox would be an example of a creative game that was never really bought by the consumers. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MapleStory beware though, it's one of those "crappy F2P Item Mall MMOs" that people hate so much on these forums. I've never played it though, so I can't say anything regarding its quality. looks very cartoony though in screenshots.
After I jumped in that game and saw some guy running around killing monsters in jordan sneakers and a black nike tanktop with a jordan headband all the immersion I felt went down the crapper. Yeah though 2d sidescrollers still have potential its just nowadays they seem to be more for kids. |

Click the arrow in the lower right corner to bring up a bunch of menus and then go to system options. There should be two log out buttons once you're there, one should say "Return to Character Selection" and the other should say "Exit to Desktop". |

Well, Knight Online is only hosted in a few countries from what I remember. Although there are people who've made free servers to play on once all the cheaters came. You can check those out. Google "Knight Online Free servers" and see what you get. Warning though some free servers don't update regularly due to being poor staffed or poor programmers so if the real KO gets an update the free servers might not get it for a month or more. Also, free servers tend to actually have working "King" unlike KO. Usually the king in KO changes the xp, drop, money rates and can change the weather. So in free servers there might be high xp rates like 10x, 20, or even 1,000x. |

Oh I forgot to mention the Dragon Orbs which are used for refining. Dragon Orbs make the refining process 100%, but it costs ALOT to refine in the end. There's 12 levels to refine weapons and armor. You can get to level 5 using dragon orbs, but it will cost you $44.50. Then, after that to make a level 6 dragon orb you have to combine 4 level 5 dragon orbs which cost $24 EACH. Then, to make a level 7 dragon orb you need 4 level 6 orbs and you see where I'm going? So altogether refining weapons are too costly ($2000+ a item to get it to max level) so you won't have to worry about people running around with Super Elite gear and 'pwning' everything in sight. You'll rarely see a player selling dragon orbs either. Although I'd advise you to not try and refine without a dragon orb cause you'll waste your items most of the time. Which is why I like Perfect World. It's a game that knows how to run a cash shop that doesn't let players buy suped up characters from it. This is how Cash Shops should work in all games, but today we have these money grubbing companies. The developers of PW are a little greedy as well. They're holding off some in-game content that would make that cash shop even more obsolete, just so they can make a quick buck. |

Yeah I always hate having to leave a game I love. I know how you feel. I'll tell you one thing though. It's about time. Hopefully Jagex doesn't somehow miraculously get a brand new huge fanbase again that doesn't mind the runescape of today because they never played the runescape of yesterday. I would like Jagex to sit in their own mess until they get their heads right. |

I don't think so. They haven't finished adding in some features yet for international. I'll check though whenever I log on. |

Don't worry about being alone your first 30 levels though. Chances of that are minimal. I didn't join a guild with one of my chars until I was 40 and I was involved in many groups and made a few friends. |

No. Not really. It's an item mall that mostly for people who like to look good or ride in style. Basically its a clothing store. The clothes give no stats they just look better than most armor. Then, there's mounts which are animals you just ride on nothing more, so you just move around the map a little faster. The only thing that can be used toward combat are the hp/mp charms which refill your hp/mp back to full when each respective bar is halfway gone. Not really a gamebreaker. On non-pvp servers for lower levels the charms are great for solo play or questing because in the end they're cheaper than all the pots you would buy from the store. If you play on pvp server though you're gonna have to learn how to make money fast so you can buy charms from other players especially if you plan on playing a melee class because you might get tired of strong ranged characters attacking you and killing you before you can take 5 steps. |

Yeah it basically centers around grouping since helping lower levels do boss quests gives major xp. Also, a majority of the quests consist of "Kill #" monsters and they go alot faster if you're in a group. Not to mention the mini-bosses and bosses in this game are way overpowered so you have to get a good group to kill them. Later on when you get to 70+ you're gonna be in groups all the time so you can grind that extra xp to level or grind zen which is used for the cash shop items or buying gold. |

Don't mind Ozmodan he has nothing better to do so he just trolls games he has played and doesn't like. Anytime something comes up about games that he doesn't like he's always there trolling. I'm pretty sure he's making up stuff to get people off the game which he should be penalized for. The game runs pretty smooth and I've yet to see someone complain about getting disconnected all the time. oOo 5% xp loss. What are we babies or something? There's games out that take away 20% and/or give you stat penalties including being de-leveled and you're whining about 5% lol? There's a daily quest that gives you about 20% xp. I use that to make up for my losses whenever I die. Yeah Oz nice try at trolling. It's kind of hard to make up stuff for a game that's known for running smooth and not lagging. |

Lol Ozmodan don't shun the game because you don't know how to manage or make money and therefore can't buy charms. That's your fault not the game's. Everyone knows there's 2 guidelines to pvp in any mmorpg. If you want to be successful you either have to: A: Have alot of money or B: Have invested alot of time into the game so you're either a very high level or have lots of knowledge of tactics to win There's a third option too which is to just join a good guild, but right now I'm talking about the individual. Why jump into a pvp only server if you didn't know that? Its not like there's 50 different kinds of charms you can buy anyway. There's 3 levels with the highest costing around 300k of in-game money or like 3 bucks in real life. |

lol at veno's being overpowered. The few good veno pets don't have ranged attacks and for the most part in pvp you just run past a veno's pet and attack the veno directly and its over. I'd love to see what dummies attacked the pet first (which are just big tanks). |

If RS goes off browser there's no way its gonna be able to compete with the current MMOs. I've seen so many browser games try to go full 3D applications and almost all of them either never came out of beta or never got more than 50 people to play. Even if it is RS, one of the attributes RS has is that its easily accessible and can be played from anywhere. But hey they've made a bunch of money off of RS and most companies don't have that kind of backing so it could work unless they say to themselves "well we're targeting babies so f*** it" and they don't even try to have good graphics or good anything else like games, tv shows, movies, etc of today. |
