It's opening day and there are queues. That's pretty standard for a situation where you have this many people trying to log on at the same time.

 Well I don't know that opening more servers is the right answer in my opinion. All thats going to do is end up splintering the community if the retention rate of subs is not that good after the 30 day free period.

I'm pretty sure they already have threshold numbers on what their servers can hold and how much they need to spread the population.

 I don't understand why people get so mad when people compare new games to WoW.  Blizzard may not have invented the mechanics of MMO gameplay but they sure did refine it to the point where it should be the basis of comparison for any game like it. 

Here's an analogy:

Back in the day Sony took a $#!T on a plate and served it up as food and EA pissed in a cup and served it up as a drink and thats all everyone could eat and drink for a very long long time.  Then Blizzard came along one day and looked at this mess and said I'm gonna use this stuff and turn it into something better.  

So they take the $#!T and piss and turn it into furtilizer and spread it across their field and grow a bunch of vegetables, some grape trees and some grass for the cows to eat.  In a couple of years they harvest everything they have grown and come to the table with a plate of steak and veggies and a glass of wine and people go absolutely gaga for it and its something that almost everyone wants.  

Now many years go by and lots of people are happy eating their steak and their are even some $#!T still out there when a new chef comes up with a new plate.  This chef comes to the table with some bacon wrapped steaks, veggies in spices and cream sauces and $200 Cognac.  

Now all the steak eaters start drawing comparisons to how the new chef added stuff to their steak and veggies and whether the changes are for the better or worse.  This vexes the $#!T eaters to no end and they scream and shout and stomp their feet claiming they were the first and their $#!T should be held in the highest regard and put at the top of the pedestal even though their creation was just broken down excrement of another plate of food. 

Now which is the logical comparison?

Wow, wonder if we'll see our first ever patch rollback in WoW.  Havn't seen one of those since my Asheron's Call days.

I can't get past the log in screen and the forums have not updated for me since around 2PM, no matter how many times i refresh or reboot.

Glad it's still wide spread and not just my connection.  Alot of the other fansites are crashing too because of ppl going around looking for answers.

New developers should name genres based on the ammount of players they can support without lag in the same area wich has to be 95% of the actual game area and the place wich 95% of the time is spent by players.

 

Why they instance? Its cheaper to maintain and easier to program, half assed job.

They choose that route ignoring what people really want.

And then use hoaxes like "we are instancing to prevent other people from ruining your group experience".

<Goblin Army> is a casual but focused guild who raid on weekends. Our members pride themselves on getting things accomplished, while still having a great time. We reside on the EST server Nazgrel and our progression is at 4/6 SCC and 2/4 TK. We are progressing steadily, downing a new boss every week and are looking for a few key classes to help push us into MH and BT.

i don't know what beta you played, but the wow beta was extremely smooth, just as it was at launch.  you can't blame wow's launch for gameplay, as it had NOTHING to do with gameplay.

most mmo's before wow had a maximum of like 300,000 people, blizzard could not have possibly even fathomed how many people bought the game at launch.

 

people are already having trouble even downloading the pre-game, which funcom charged for... so they took their money and they can't get in, imagine that.  the real mess hasn't even started until tuesday.
