If I'd see someone in LOTRO over 50th lvl on full F2P I'd ask him to go treat himself as he can't be mentally healthy. I really wonder how many people here praising F2P actually aren't lifetime members or subscribiers and did say 1-40 content without paying real money.

The game is good and polished, can't argue with that. But F2P? With amount of grind ahead You won't see anything people praise that game for as You'll be busy grinding mobs like in cheap korean games, then remake character and all over again...

I'd say go for US without any doubts. Why?

1. EU is bout 30% more expensive, due to VAT tax and just simply charging more because they can.

2. Patch delays about 1-2 weeks. Patches coming up few days after US were exceptions. This time is at least 8 days IF everything goes well. F2P change was example how much EU care for it's own customers.

3. No Bullroar - aka preview server on which You can see upcoming changes.

4. No Isengard or similar programs for alpha/beta testing.

5. No myLOTRO and direct communication with Devs.

6. Almost no help in case of getting hacked. No item reimbursement, some folks didn't even got their deleted toons back. It'll probably change but US already have it, EU is always behind and You feel like 2nd rate customer.

7. Check the deal with DDO where EU(same company) customers were screwed for half a year to be finally transfered to US. Warner Bros(Turbine owner) stated that they want rights for EU MMOs back. So similar will most likely happen to EU LOTRO(there is already note in ToS You agree to share personal data with US).

8. EU servers except from German ones are less populated then US counterparts. Why? Simple example - US had massive queues after F2P while EU didn't. So despite proper timezone You may still have not so many people around.

9. So far EU store had worse offers and it most likely stay that way as Turbine won't really
care for EU as those are NOT their customers.

10. EU servers often lag - especially in PvMP zones - see some thread from bout 1 month ago on least populated server. Also people did check and pings for US were good enough to play with no issue at all as this isn't FPS shooter.

I can see only three reasons why to play at EU

1. EU has one advantage - RP servers so if You are into that - play in Europe.

2. You are into heavy raiding - then timezone may count enough.

3. You want to play FR/GER language version.

I would say pick the class you liked the game is pretty well balanced to me and you can't go wrong regardless of which you pick.  The only advice I could really give is maybe avoid picking a ranged class like hunter cause then she probably wouldn't get to use her heals much.

Of course You can go wrong. When You get to lvl 60+ You'll start to encounter more and more 3-man content. With proper duo You can do them without 3rd person(which You can ofc take as filler to do it faster). With bad duo You will have to look for tank/healer as it'll be next to impossible to do those.

Definitely warden. His self heals for tough boss fights + LM spot heals and debuffs works wonders. You can duo all 3-mans easily. Also Wardens AoE leeches and threat + LM AoE dps and stuns rapes poor trash easily. Warden is power hungry and LM has power share skill. If things get bad LM can root/mez/slow and You can kite with javelin.

Guardian is okay but lacks self-heals - which mean harder times with boss fights and smaller trash groups.

Champ - trash will be much faster but bosses will get tricky.

Captain lacks AoE skills which will limit Your LM to single target. If not stray mobs will go for You making stuff messy. On boss it'll be a bit better, but captain ain't real tank.

Hunter is nice as You can kite/CC and pick mobs one by one very fast. Bosses are 50%/50%. Either You can kite them and win or if they are immune to CC then it's no go.

Also people tend to forget that cash shop points are hardly comparable with real goods(aka they ain't produced at all). Apart greed there is no reason not to offer same amount of points for very same price even including tax.

Yeah CM screwed things again and some premium accounts are bugged with bags/traits/gold cap locked like f2p account. Have to get in touch with CS and wait. Or do Yourself a favor and just go for US LOTRO, won't regret it in longer run.

Yeah go for US if You haven't heavily invested in EU. CM store promotions were rubbish so far. For example today US got 1111 points for 11$, 50% off Moria and Mirkwood xpacs. EU got 50% off red dye and few emotes...what a turn off...

Another example of what You can bought in US vs EU
US vs Europe
Lonelands 50 vs 280
North Downs 50 vs 595
Evendim 50 vs 595
MoM 1248 vs 2495
SoM 998 vs 1995

= 2396 vs 5960

Apart from that - more expensive points(it's virtual currency so stop the excuses with taxes and exchange rates - they could offer better deals if not greedy, period), no my LOTRO, no test server, no Isengard program, no interaction with devs, everything goes live later

Also CM has really bad reputation after all issues with DDO(when it went F2P), where players more or less got deal pay(for old outdated version) or gtfo to US F2P(where all new stuff was). After like half a year of cheap excuses they finally signed the deal with Turbine and offered transfers to US.

Well my point about 30% difference was between United Kingdom aka in Europe vs say Germany again in Europe. Unless I'm horribly wrong UK has a VAT tax as well.

4. Remember the adventurer pack? It cost less than half in Europe, i bought it on both services and paid like 15 or 20$ in the US and got it for less than 8 in europe. Same for moria box, its currently about half the price on amazon than the US version.

In the initial offer You could get free Mirkwood xpac in US just for paying multi month subscription(which You had to do anyways in order to play), Codies offer were nowhere near good. Lifers had a bit rougher offer, but got free adventurers pack when purchasing Mirkwood. Also CM charge about 30% more for people outside UK due to "exchange rates".

So depending on person, I guess there grass is always greener...

Though LTAs is indeed a sweet deal, tho I wonder if it's contractual or only Turbines good will to honor them when license will expire.

That's nice, but it's not really accurate nor a suggestion. If we both log into a game and the people around us and in the chats are all under the age of 17, you can safely say that game has an immature crowd of sorts. We aren't going to connect and enjoy the company of people half are age on a regular basis, therefor we want a game where we'd be most likely to find other couples and people in our age group.

Hmm that's gonna be hard then. I think most of communities I saw in various MMORPGs consist mainly from teenagers and students - at least those are most visible with easy explanation behind - they have most free time to spend for gaming. So I guess outside the guild You'll be bound to meet younger people. I'm also curious on what basis You get impression that "chats are all under the age of 17"? People tend to use l33t speech regardless of their age.

One way or another I'd say LOTRO or maybe EVE or FF XI(FF XIV has horrendous rig requirements) would be a good idea to try. Those games have strong and helpful communities.

Yeah LOTRO isn't really F2P the way RoM is - more like heavily restricted trial to 50th level. In RoM You have to pay to make Your character better. In LOTRO You have to pay to play content(do quests, use traits, AH, mounts, earn gold).

click and buy is just terrible horrible payment system. People got bans in EU LOTRO(due to C&B crying about theft) just because they used same credit card for husband and wife. Not to mention it's almost guaranteed that You'll have to phone them or send scans of Your id/card in case of any trouble or just living in not approved country. Paypal is like pure awesomeness in comparison.

Avoid it as much as possible. Heck I would stop playing MMOs at all if it was only payment option.

Well I know what I wanted. No reason to discuss with trolls implying I want everything for free.
Hopefully Turbine will be smart enough to see that and sell me what I want as this is cash for them.

 It is a convenience.
Do all the quests in an area and then run to the next area. Amazingly enough this was actually how MMORPGs were played by subscribing customers in the early days. It is not a necessity to be able to hop from point a to point b in 2 seconds.
Thinking that it is a necessity does show your mindset when it comes to MMOs and that you feel you are owed many things simply for playing.

Ah so personal attack starts, just because I have a different opinion? This is necessity if it takes 30-40 minutes to travel from one NPC to another. Have You ever done epic books in LOTRO? If yes You should know what I'm talking about. And please stop trolling I already said I don't want it for free. I just want to be able to buy things in turbine store to be on VIP level minus some conveniences.

Don't jump down my throat for stating the bleeding obvious , but as a subscriber I generally need to have gained a certain reputation with the local faction & have previously been to my destinations stable-master before I have access to swift travel . Is this not available for F2P players ? If so , then I can understand your frustration .

Yes You can do all reputation and level requirement , yet You can't use swift travel. Only normal if it's available. And my point is not to get this for free, but being a part of quest pack or as an unlock in cash shop.

suppose for a minute you are in the military and subject to being home  a week or two, then out to sea for a week or two. Suppose you are in college or med school and can only play a couple of days a week. Suppose you are dead broke with three kids to feed and clothe. May be you just want to play to 30 to see if you like it?  It will be great for some people, just because it is not for you does not mean it is bad.

Hmmm if I wanted to try game I'd just play free trial. And from what I know this didn't changed much, except becoming endless trial. Now if I was a very casual person and traveling would eat half of my gaming session and I wouldn't have any reasonable way to omit it I'd certainly feel bad.

It's not about expecting everything for free or being casual or not. It's about if paying as You go is viable at all.

By the time you get to Rivendale and Angmar you will know if the game is worth 50 cents a day top you. If you want all the bells and whistles buy a subscription. If you want free play or cannnot afford that 50 centsd then fine, just don't complain cause they don't give you everything the subbers get

Umm I have no idea why You confuse buying in turbine store with playing for free. Surely there should be some incentives(like destiny points, free updates, 500 free points a month) for subscribers. But from what I have read about the best f2p game I though hybrid means also possibility of buying all basic things. Cutting 40 minute travels is hardly a convenience, it's a basic thing. And no I don't want it for free(thought that it was clear).

Pay as you go is just that, pay as you go. It should really only be used by 3 types of people. 1) Those that want to check out the game but aren't ready to make an investment in it. 2) Those who are very very casual and don't have much time to play, so they play for an hour here and there and drop in money when they need something. 3) The super cheap who think they should never have to pay for anything and are willing to grind out Turbine points/run everywhere since they don't want to pay for swift travel.
You are NOT supposed to have all the benefits as those who sub unless you pay a significant amount of money, simple as that. If you want swift travel then keep paying for it or sub. Subscription is the smart choice and as people have said on MMORPG a million times, it is about the same cost as going to the movies ONCE in an entire month.

So all the buzz about Turbine hybrid payment model being great, innovative and a more convenient way for people to pay, was just marketing? I thought the reason of cash shop being brought to give a choice - You sub and don't care. Or You pay as You go. From what You are writing it seems not. Subscribe or be gimped. Thanks for clearing that one for me.

I'll also gladly get a nice hack and slash game with multi while waiting for their MMO. I enjoyed first part, cheap and fun. So a new one with multiplayer. Yes!, please.

After reading forums here and official ones I heard so much about hybrid payment being a reasonable thing for people, as it gives a choice to pay as You go or subscribe. Subscription is quite obvious so I want to consider pay as You go.

So payment for all areas and unlocks is more or less cost of what lifetimers(perma VIP) paid. But is it worth it? Considering issue with no sensible swift travels available in turbine store(60 minute one is a joke). This alone makes me feel like 2nd rate customer. Kinda felt bad when questing(epic books) with friend and recognizing I have to trot over Angmar on horse as swifts are no avail. Now if I imagine going to Rivendell from there(like 30 minutes ride) I get kinda annoyed. I thought that quest pack bought = all swifts available.

I sure hope that this will change as basic things like this are nearly gamebreaking and I thought pay as You go was a reasonable option.
