You mis-labeled your thread. What you have talked about is not an innovation but is a step backwards. It's not an MMO if it isn't persistent.

They just don't have anyone exploring the world anymore except for new players or alt levelers. This is what happens when you design a game to be immersive based on # of players participating around you, but then you build your world to be 100% linear and to have an arrival point.

A good example of how to do "persistence" is to follow SWG's example. Content in the real world that scales to the average level of players in a given area. It made it so new players always saw veterans running around town or out in the wilderness. Made the world feel persistent, and alive. Obviously there are other examples, but that is the first one off the top of my head.

Just saying :)

When did SWG do that? I'm pretty sure the progression followed from Mynocks up until you reached Rancors, as far as best exp/combat exp per minute was concerned. I'm fairly certain a new character wasn't able to stand up to Krait on his own.

Moreover by your own definition, there is no such thing as an mmo. No mmo as able to achieve persistence or consistence. There will always be client sided actions taking place due to how much stress they relieve on the server end. There will always be instances and loading, where you see it or not. Even in WoW you had to load each zone before you entered it, it was just in how it was handled that made it look seamless

Just some general responses on the NON-KongZhong forums, because astroturfing is real.

*Welp should've known.* Check the Teiba.Baidu forums.

From the information posted yesterday.

The Album of screenshots for the lazy.

It is important to take Kongzhong's PR with a grain of salt, as they often will just say things that people want to hear, E.G. LeagueCN.

What to take from this.

Traits locked behind pay-walls, unid dyes cost gems to identify, and they went back on their word about not having a VIP system.

More information for the lazy:

1 Weapon Skill #1 & Healing Skill
2 Weapon Skill #2
5 Profession (F1) Skill
7 Offhand and Two-handed Weapon
9 Use of Down State and Rally
11 Vistas
14 Equipping Masterwork Equipments
15 Use of Salvage Kits
16 Creating and Joining of Guilds
17 Trading Post
18 Use of Asuran Gates
20 Traits
21 Jumping Puzzle
27 Weapon Swap
50 Elite Skill

Taken from the reddit.

The general consensus is that "ANet is infallible and it was all NCsoft's fault." or "Sucks to be Chinese." Even though this was a direct quote from the Eastern Female Colin Johanson, "After conducting exhaustive research on multiple aspects of the market and working closely with ArenaNet, KongZhong has decided to respect the users opinions and choose the same business model that has made the game the fastest-selling MMO in western history."

What does this all mean? Nothing, and even if it did mean anything or was going to affect you some how, what would you do about it? Groan? After all what do you care?

Inb4, but-but-but-but-but IT'S BETA!  Keep telling yourself that.

No endgame? Well every single mob in the starting zone better have 20+ attacks. If not, it's highly unlikely I'll trudge through boring and mediocre content for nothing. Which for whatever reason seems to be the trending for game design.

As far as endgame is concerned, the game simply needs to challenge players, not just at end game, but progressively through out the leveling experience. Even Elite Zones would help. Things to teach players what will be expected of them in the later game. When the player arrives at "endgame", they shouldn't breeze through it with nothing to show but loot from the experience. A player should be challenged by a dungeon designers bosses, moreover a player should come out a better player than he/she was when he/she first entered the dungeon.

For instance the entire evolution of Guild Wars 2's players play style boils down to:

Starting with Knights and stacking Guardians,

Ending with Berserkers and stacking on each other.

That's some mighty fine emergent game play right there!

I'll be okay with this if Bill mans up and plays some Muramasa.
Can't really blame them for reviewing single player RPGs. With the MMO genre as awful and stagnant as it is, I find myself okay with an accurate review of a solid game.

There is never a last hope. There will always be newer games coming out

Newer games, familiar concepts. Nothing new from the west Twenty-Forever!!

Remember when you were excited for Guild Wars 2?
Go back to table top games if you want boring combat. Keep the cancer out of mmos.

*If I don't like it I just won't sub"

Forgets that he has to sub to play the game, good luck not subbing, have fun buying a game twice to not play it.

Consider the following: Only one out of three of these mmos is trying to break away from the mold.
Instead of creating a game where players have to actually need to learn how to play, why not make a game that they can easily figure out and ultimately master with little to no effort.

To be fair to MMORPG : Wildstar is a pretty big release with a lot of info coming out about it. What else is a MMO site going to write about?

Perfect World is launching an expansion, Lionhead has partnered with Microsoft Games in the hopes of making an mmo whom they have not even a title for yet, and more indie developers with high hopes continue to churn out the donation vacuums.

To be fair: It has been a slow week in mmo related news, but to answer your question; whatever they're paid to write about.

Fractured player base more like!

When GW2 brings me a dungeon finder and end game content I'll come back. I still say it's one of my favorite, and best MMO's I've ever played. But regretfully there's just not enough to keep me coming back.

It makes me sad actually.

Dungeon finder was added a couple patches back. Gets you in a group in seconds, literally.

End game content? Well now you have 3 new fractals and fractal levels going even higher.

Also overland "raid" Tequatl added a few patches back.

Check it out. If you already own the game it won't cost you anything to come back for a look, unlike sub games where checking back sets you back a month's sub, even if you only check it out for 5 minutes and decide it's still garbage.

Unless you're trying to level in fractals in which case it's faster to 3man 1-20 and 4man 20-30.

Personally I've found Teq to be unstable and too laggy to enjoy. Yet I can do the same sized Rifts and Arkfalls in their respective game, so disappointing. Not to mention the culling is still extremely rough, even with the ability to customize it a little.

You know what I love even more? These small group sizes in dungeons, parties, and instances in general. Nothing like having Big Guilds that never play together, that only exist to zerg down worthless Guild Events.

The worst thing about the game for me is that everything revolves around money/gold, and the best way to earn money/gold is to not play the game. This is like game design 101 tier.

I'm curious to see if this batch of repetitive content actually last longer than 2 or 3 days.

I preferred the game before Jump To Lightspeed.

The real reason why d3 sucked.

Not to mention the rather weak story, or the extreme spreading thin of content with the conception of inferno. Nothing like playing the game 4 times over. Guess they though we'd be extra thankful the fourth time around.

That actually reminds me, I'm glad they never kept Ruthless difficulty in Path of Exile.

Even if they don't get their act together, Dungeon Striker will at least have some fun boss fights to enjoy in January.

I'm pretty sure I had a paladin in WoW with 365 days played before BC came out.

It'd be swell to not completely steamroll content as soon as it's released. Winning all the time gets a little tedious.

It was around 154 days before anyone had cleared all the content in vanilla, and 142 days before anyone cleared Burning Crusade.

We will never see something like this ever again. After all everything needs to be accessible to the masses these days.

Or you could play Super Saiyan Barbarian Action Squad 7, now with 100% more hair changing color to blonde and standing up through your armor!

It's like playing a Slayer with the Survivability of an Ironbreaker. Not ever remotely fair.
