Hi everyone.

I preordered the imperial edition a while ago and it seems like i can't create one in the beta ?

Am i alone with this or nobody can create an imperial in the beta week ends ?

The server queue was 2 to 3 hours long but i was happyly surprised that i could leave my computer to do something else and when i came back a few hours later my waiting time was over and it kept me connected, so i could create my character and get to play three to four hours.

It was a bit laggy at times but it's what you should expect from connecting to a russian server from a far western europe country, i did really, enjoy my time, it remembered me good vibes / feelings from my first beta in lineage 2, this game has nice graphics and it plays well, i didn't felt the "urge" to go here or there and do everything quest npc  asked me to do, i begun to explore the map, look at the beautyfull landscape, and this game has wonderfull foliage / herbs / trees / bushes / hills and mountains, impressed and amazed by the first time i've been using a glider, yada yada, so far, so good, i can't really judge the combat, animations are pretty nice and it feel reactive, but i can't say so much, as it was clearly laggy and command input were giving some latency problems / millisecs of reactions or even an entire second sometimes, so it would be unfair from me to judge the combat right now as i couldn't see it in full reactivity / without latency making so i hit a skill and i don't have a direct "interaction"... But it seemed more than okay.

It felt free enough, i mean, the world seems to be completely open from what i've seen, i "suffered" no loading screens, and i thought that if i was going to the end of the road section between two different maps i would have a loading screen or something of the like at some point, but it was really like Lineage 2, looks like the world is in one huge "piece" and you can travel from everywhere at foot or by boat or using many means of transportation in the game (loving the motorized "carts" between little towns / camps etc, i hope there are some boats you can take too ) I almost regret that there is a few "portals" / tp gates in the game.

I was having fun, and i got nostalgic at some graphic elements, some of the armors reminding me the first ones i could get in L2.

Then it striked me like a needle in my brain, when all of a sudden i wanted to gather ressources... I... can't describe how disappointed i was by seeing the awfull face of the "work" point system, as i had a very little amount to begin with (45 / 50 if i remember correctly) allowing you to mine only 9 or 10 iron deposits (each of them cost you up to 5 or 6 points to mine one time...)

I love to craft in games... And after hitting that "wall", i started to get informations here and there, on the internet, then it felt like a huuuuge paywall system breaking not only my immersion but the impression of the game overall, i was filled with the universe of the game from the starting area it was also allowing you to go or do whatever you want until that come out and fuck everything up.

I'm disappointed by this very restrictive system, but i guess i'll wait for more informations about the international / european servers and system before deciding if it's worth it, or try it a month or two when it releases here... As for now it doesn't impeach me to continue playing but it surely got a stab in my overall impression of the game and i was enjoying it at a very low / discovering pace, it's just felt like "why the fuck does you have to show your ugly face now as i was enjoying what i see and what i play, fuck !"

I like this game, but i read that even when you pay, you have a maximum of 5000 work points and you get like, 5 work point every 10 or 20 minutes, i don't remember correctly, but i won't pay a premium service for "still" being limited in how i want to play if i only want to gather ressources and sell them or craft, i hardly feel like i'm "free" of doing whatever i want even by subscribing to the game, you still have these "expended" restrictions...

Why ?

I"m going to give zenimax a chance to disappoint me, just like swtor surely did, as i'm a miserabile, weak pile of human flesh, i bought the game, yes, and i know what it is, it's pathetic. Pa...The...tic of me, as i kind of know, already, deep in my heart from the quality of all i've seen, and played through beta, that it's not the elder scrolls online game i wished for, by any mean and by far to say the least.

Bought the game, i shouldn't have, of course, i shouldn't have.

But i'm curious, there's a little glimmer of hope that they "may"... they "may"... Little chance, a very, very little light of chance in this deep ugly, dark hole, that they will actually adress many legit complaints a lot of people are adressing about animation fidelity at LEAST. At the very least, if they add more realism / better animations to it, it would be kind of, half worth the price i paid...

But who am i joking, right  ? I'm on the fence and i'm still on the fence, being used to mod, and modelize / texturize 3D objects and sometimes even animate some, i can clearly see that the level of "work" put into character models and static objects in teso goes from ridiculously lazy to half assed.

And i don't know why Bethesda didn't lended/ gave some of their skyrim assets and skyrim animations to Zenimax to work with in the first place, even if they had to cut out some animations frames or optimize them...

I bought it and i'm not fond of it, i think it's like giving money to a lazy spoiled brat that did shit at school, come to me with less than average notes and expect me to buy him new toys... It's a disservice to them, letting them think it's "okay" to do this level of crap... But i'm weak, i love elder scrolls... And yeah, some would say "you shouldn't have bought it if i was clearly "loving" elder scrolls..." And i cannot blame them, they're mostly right.

But i fear that, Bethesda know they've done shit with this "game" by outsourcing it, i fear they know they spent too much money on a sorry ass game bearing their name, i fear there won't be another single player elder scroll game after this pathetic excuse for an elder scroll... I fear this game could bring them to their knee as they put so much money in it that they can't realise how wrong they were in a timely manner and, as a game editor and producer, just can't afford this kind of spendings...

I clearly see how unbelievably awfull eso is compared to the standard quality of Bethesda elder scrolls games... And maybe they should just take that failure in the face to recognize how wrong they are to go back on the drawing tables and produce what they were already known for, some of the best pc rpg's ever done...

I almost hate myself for being so weak, it's the bad attitude toward this game, this studio, if there is too much people as weak as me, there will be too much people allowing them to run away with this and think it's how it's done from now on and for the future of this franchise...

I'm sorry.

Yeah ^^ i thought you were almost sounding like him.

Anyway.... People have really low standard of quality to accept this wearing the elders scrolls name.

They jump on it because it's borrowing a brand, and by any means, the soul of it.

You seem very passionnate about elder scrolls and very passionnate about every flaw of the game in your eyes, and it's well explained overall, it just pains me because you actually had to go through "this" travesty of an elder scrolls, in your lifetime, and would expect much better, much better quality control for an elder scrolls game, especially from bethesda at least, as they are like, the best solo rpg / sandbox maker on pc.

And i must admit, i jumped on it because it was an "mmo" too, at first, who wouldn't "try" it at least ? But i'm not as desperate as everyone being in denial about it being very cheaply made.

The age of your voice mixes well with your forum avatar.

And i agree with your analyze of the state of the game... It's lacking a lot of things to make it an mmo, and it lacks almost everything that should make it an elder scrolls / skyrim game.

People saying "older" / mature people like us are hater because they easily see all the flaws of the game, anyone can easily understand in this video how disappointed you are, and so i am as disappointed as you with the state of the game.

I played the game on max settings, i thought it was my computer at some point, but i have a mid to high end machine, i played both a melee and ranged character, and i must say if the melee feels lifeless and show off a lot of bad animations (much worse than what skyrim had in it's 1.0 form, at least you felt some realism and impact against ennemies and a feel of motion capture animation smoothness at times in battles, and ennemies being "hit" with weapon weight / getting knocked down or backing off a little, it had much more combat feedback.)

Bow animations are so lackluster... You can see them from a recent video from force there :

Even with the assets and bow combat animations in morrowind, you wouldn't have so much stuttering /  instability / "core" animation frameskip and  cheapness/ clunkyness in bow combat animation, and i'm not talking about "fps" there, i'm talking about actual animated frames of how the quality of the character is firing with  bow, if melee combat with one and two handed weapons are already suffering from the really bad quality animations assets Zenimax gave them, god... Bows are easily the worst, if you make a direct comparison to how bow behave and is animated in eso with skyrim or even oblivion you would be amazed by the lack of two things :

Animation quality

Stuttering character that seems like he's either on drugs or too nervous, making his bow go up / down, any direction as his animations are clearly not made for first person view, let alone third person, he still looks stiff and as if he had a broom up the ass.

Polycount... i thought we were over 6 edges / polygon side to modelize an arm, but god i thought i was back playing a post 2000 game... just look at the bracers and the shape of the arm overall, first person actually make it really appears as it is, and even worse... morrowind had that kind of polycount  / edges for an arm, without any mods.

And i don't understand why they would go so "cheap" with polycount of characters, or animations, while games like Age of conan has LESS loading screens and instanced areas as ESO has, and it looks, from a polycount and texture point, two or three generations better than eso, hell, maps i was running around in Eso beta were smaller and had less graphical fidelity than any instanced maps in AOC, just to talk about trees, static objects, and little things all around.

Zenimax has done a pretty lazy job with the game, i don't see where they put the 200 millions, but it was clearly not into the realisation of the game, maybe everything went in the marketting, i'm pissed as i love my elder scrolls game to be well made, and this is clearly not the case.

I would be laughing if it wasn't kind of showing the true nature of this cash grabbing crafting system...

I'm wondering if it's a subliminal message... It's a mistake ? They couldn't have done it on purpose, right ?

Huh, i really liked what i saw, especially the "dark souls" style strategy you have to be patient and analyse what's going on before even trying to hit anything.

The setting/ old world and background story about humans that have killed their god, so only evil remain in the world, is quite nice too, it immediatly gives an medieval -  horror / apocalyptic feel. Hope they will exploit it to some depth as there could be a lot of idea around this.

Well, in some way, minimum almost looks nicer than maximum, as it blurs the horrible details of higher textures that already looks "meh" on these low poly characters. (and higher / max quality textures aren't that high either, as they still, look pretty average / low.)

Minimum leaves your imagination go wild, at least, and blurs / hide more imperfections.

You've typed a lot, but I'm not sure what it is you are saying.

What, exactly, are you basing the "meh" on again? Horrible detail examples? You do know ESO has AvAvA with several hundred players involved, right?

Oh yeah, i typed a lot... you typed 3 lines, i typed 4, what a wall of text, but i'm quite sure you understood that eso has a very poor graphic fidelity even at max settings, no wonder why it's lower than "low" at minimum settings.

I will be honest, Crafting is really great in elder scrolls online, almost as interesting and deep as what crafting was in ffxiv 1.0, and maybe as amusing as everquest 2 crafting was to me,  this is almost the best and most deep and interesting system i saw and experienced in the whole game during the beta, even if everything around in the game is borderline "meh", if i was stupid enough i'll buy this game only for this aspect, but i'm too clever and experienced by playing too much mmo's to not see it becoming a cash grab with cash shop items allowing you to not "fail" at the best items, i know it will be coming, you can be 100% sure of it, making it pay to win, and that is not meeting what i want from an elder scrolls game.

Of course it's not, are you fucking kidding me ?

Any elder scrolls diehard fan that know the series since at least morrowind can't take this as a serious attempt at creating an mmo out of elder scrolls, if anything, it's a very weak attempt at it, and should have been much better considering the quality of past and more recent titles of the franchise, this isn't even reaching the knee of either morrowind, oblivion, or skyrim in term of depth, realisation, and last bethesda's titles graphics and animation assets.

Even the lore is trashed for mmorpg "convenience" , things like, argonians being able to be poisoned ? Players able to read elder scrolls in this game ? Who the fuck is a fan of elder scrolls and even dare vote yes on this ? Fucking dumb people who don't have a clue about elder scrolls in the first place.

And yes, i wished, a discreet wish, that there would be an elder scrolls mmo someday, a well crafted one, as they take like 5 to 6 years to develop the solo games and come as the most beautyfull piece of solo rpg on the pc platform, i secretly wished they would took maybe, twice the time to develop an mmo behind another solo game after skyrim and make it really, really good, not that rushed pile of junk with 99 % of the work outsourced to incompetent graphic artists, disappointing from the company i consider to be, one of the best bringing the most beautyfull and well crafted solo rpg on pc, just like cd projekt with the witcher, but this game is not up to par with their reputation of mastercrafting an rpg, a sandbox.

This is not what i expected from bethesda, outsourcing it's best rpg to leave it to zenimax and ruin it.

So, no, i "wished" that, someday there could be the possibility they would make an mmo out of it, but i don't really "wanted" it, what i wanted is that, if they would make an attempt at it, they would take the time to do it, and make it with their own HANDS, with the studio that makes all the other elder scrolls, it reeks of blandness and lack of authenticity, it doesn't feel like an elder scrolls game, it doesn't look like it either, from a graphic and animation stand point, do you fucking realise we are in 2014 and skyrim released in 2011 ?

And no interactions with the static objects of the game or be able to steal shit displayed in the shops, not able to touch a single, freaking thing or throw it at a player just for the fun of it ?! What the hell, you people thinking this is a proper elder scrolls game are on some powerfull drug, i don't know what you've been smoking but i'll take the same shit and maybe i will see what you're seeing there.

3 fucking years for an elder scrolls game "mmo" only ? HOW can't it be rushed ? HOW ?! when they take 2X the time for a solo game, i want bethesda to cancel this thing, go back to the drawing tables and to take care of the development of this game THEMSELVES.

I think it's a good way to begin an adventure but i was a bit disappointed by how oblivion and skyrim handled it, i mean, as to begin your journey as a prisonner, at least, in the imperial cell, let us "live" a bit of that prison life, simulate the carceral life a bit in that medieval setting, let the player immerse himself in the fact that you could spend one or even two hours to just be a prisoner and get food from the guards, plan your evasion somehow, (even if you were so close and ready to evade that it fails at some point from an event tied to the storyline, or even evading being part of the main story at some point)

I wish we could spend more time being a prisoner in these games, i wish it would be something "meaningfull" at the start of your journey in the world, be it, learning about some survival skills in prison, (yeah, you could learn about skinning animals by catching some rats, cooking them and eating them in prison, they seem so proud of their "rat flesh"  or tails in elder scrolls when you kill them... My mind is blown as they are doing too little to explore more possibilities there)

Being able to train your lockpicking skills on your own chains / locks / the lock of your cell while you have to be sure the guard is off duty or don't look at you, manage to scratch little bits of metal from the recipient they give you to build a lockpick or even craft your first weapon by creating a shiv, (they have shiv at some point in skyrim, but when you get into a mining slave pris, not able to craft them tho) creating a glass blade using broken glass from a glass of water you could have accidentally made slip out of your hands, hide it in your inventory and use it to craft your weapon, there's thousand of ways to make your character "progress" / evolve even in the starting cell / prisoner life at the beginning of the game...

I liked how it was beginning in Oblivion, i thought they would go into more depth about you being in a cell but it disappointed because you were too "quickly" escorted outside, the "escorting" of the emperor in the basement of the prison was nice tho, but they could have added everything i'm talking about before this event happen, or they could give you a choice for a change, freedom of how you want to escape from your prison, because, be it in morrowind, skyrim, or oblivion, they are all scripted and leave you no real freedom or choice about your own destiny in the game until you finally escaped through the scripted events... I don't feel like being so "unique" when i've gone through the exact same experience millions of other players have gone through, you end up playing exactly the same way until you may split for the empire, or the nords, and even there, the missions are still the same from the nordic perspective or imperial perspective...

All in all, the prisoner "scenario" and experience at the beginning of elders scrolls could be much better than what is it, it's just not exploited to an interesting / deep extent, it's boring because it does not offer interesting gameplay or mechanics leading your character to evolve or learn something.

Other than "well, i was a prisonner, i was on the shittiest social level possible and now i'm killing dragons by shouting thunder out of my ass, do you see where i came from ? i'm so badass."

It could be much more than that.

Oh, and Elder scrolls online is the worst in handling your "prison" evading thing, it has no substance at all, you spend like 5 seconds in your cell, congratulations for being the most useless thing in this game and the worst way it has been handled since elders scrolls make you begin as a prisoner, it deserves a ton of crap just for this "alone", not even wanting to get into the debate of many things that are deeply wrong with this title. there's enough people understanding how bad it is as an "elder scrolls". It's a travesty, to me it has no soul.

And lol at argonians being able to be poisoned, and lol at the elder scrolls being a capture the flag thing, and able to be read somehow without becoming insane or blind in eso, if you are okay with this you don't know anything about elders scrolls.

It's not only the press, it was PLAYERS playing the beta EVEN before the nda was lifted that saw clearly this game was "bad", get real.

"Bad press" is just confirming what most people impressions were playing it while it was still under nda, don't make it like it is a surprise.

I will wait for six months to a year, and it will surely goes F2P before that, because it has nowhere near the level of content, the level of graphism and animations / assets that would pass an AAA game quality control, it's a very bland, and boring mmo for a subscription fee model, All these assets are already dated for the PAST gen, and we are already slowly entering in the next gen, this game is not "next gen" worthy material, and has little to no "elder scrolls" soul in it, it's just a very generic mmo carrying the dead corpse of a dumbed down skyrim, and it isn't even on par with skyrim graphics.

The world feels cheap, the characters polycount also feels awfully cheap, even with armor on... i can't pay the full price for an half assed attempt from Zenimax to portray what elder scrolls would be in a mmorpg experience.

I was wanting some game like this, an elder scrolls mmo, a long time ago, but when i see it so poorly executed, i'm getting infuriated, any multiplayer mode for skyrim or morrowind would have been thousand time better than this. and more enjoyable too.

Now i know why bethesda never done any multiplayer mode for their games, they just want to cash in with this pile of crap when obviously, a multiplayer experience on skyrim or morrowind would have easily won over this, hands down.

Ha ha ha ha wow, that's so amusing when people start assuming things out of their own ass, no, no no no, most free to play games are built a certain way, and have little to no content to them, they are not AAA titles by far, and ESO has little to no AAA quality for a mmo, be it in animations, graphics, AND the little, very little content it provide.

I actually pay for two subscription games, and paid for more than i should have for other mmo's, and no, it's not because "it's not open for me", if there was an office of regulation allowing mmorpgs to have a subscription based on the content and quality of assets it provides, ESO wouldn't even qualify to pass the test, that's how i see it from more than 20 hours into the beta, not your biased assessment / assumption that i just want it to be free to play without having played it and knowing exactly what a "sub" game should be offering, because ESO does not offer the slightest quality a sub game offers to say the least, by FAR.

Will buy the game, when it will be cheaper, stops to travesty it's free to play real nature under a subscription and become honest with what it is, a good free to play experience, but a very bad, bland and boring game as a subscription model mmo, it has nowhere near the level of graphics, animations, and content required to be a subscription game, and yes, it comes from more than me playing twenty hours spent into the beta so far.

If Zenimax was honest with the state of the game as it is, they wouldn't ask for a subscription fee and should be ashamed for doing so.

I know the beta is still under nda but... come on... After playing it for a good amount of time... Trying to Take it as an elder scrolls, this game is so empty and soulless... i have a thousand time more immersion and fun playing skywind...

My first "rpg" experience was with ronbinson's requiem if you can call it a rpg, and diablo...

But my first mmorpg experience was with lineage 2, and i didn't even knew what was a "mmorpg" before trying the beta in 2003.

It was just wonderfull, i... i never thought an online game could be so "complex", i already played complex "solo" games but lineage 2 was my first experience at a vastly / huge mmorpg, i didn't knew what i was doing, i didn't knew how the interface of a mmorpg worked, it was fucking interesting to me, every aspect of it, even if i didn't knew how to use soulshots to amplify my damage, even if i didn't knew crafting even existed, i remember wandering around discovering things at a verrry very slow "pace" and allways going like "what, you can do this in this game ? really ?" when i met players trying to explain how you do this, or that to me, or just, things like, "opening my map", seriously, i was getting lost everywhere and lineage 2 world was so huge, so huge... i reached level 20 on the first island (that felt pretty big to me) when i was still equiped with the top "no grade" stuff, just exploring, and feeling like being a survivor on this island, as everyone seemed to disapear after a while, only to understand later that character went to the "main" continent / land at level 15 by taking a boat...

Lineage 2 on it's early days and levels was something i remember dearly, as i took for the first time, a 30 minute trip on a boat to reach the mainland, you actually had to WAIT for 30 minutes between each of travel, as the boat was really, really traveling on the sea for 15 minutes to go from the island to the mainland and another 15 minutes to go back.

Everything felt so cool while discovering this game, everything seemed so "new" and so interesting at the same time, the sheer pleasure of exploration / discovering, as i had plenty of time to do it, i wasn't as "pressurised" or feeling like i have to "race" through the game at that time, i hadn't all these modern notions / corrupted notions by all the modern mmo's that feels like you have to be in a "rush" to compete with everyone, i had the most pleasurable time discovering something i had never done before...

It's something i can't find in any mmo nowaday, i kind of found it back in elder scrolls games like morrowind, or oblivion / skyrim, but as time passed, as trends in new mmorpgs were to give you very "little" / compressed areas that you can get across in the matter of seconds of running / walking... It became uninteresting fast, i mean, even when i played wow, little to no areas were as "customized" and vast / huge as lineage 2 or morrowind were, i don't know, it felt just like you had to walk hours on the first lineage 2 island to go to the other side of it, and days on the main land, where areas felt really "dangerous" and deep in some ways, i'm hardly able to feel that with nowaday mmo's, maybe a bit with the first year i played ffxi, but it had it's other problems, grouping problems mostly, not being able to do anything "solo" sometimes, it's boring to get "NO u, JAP only" messages.

I tried ffxiv... the 1.0 kind of gave me some of these exploration feelings back, even tho... even tho the map layout was pretty linear and you had to go certain paths / roads to get from there to there, not offering you real / true explorations of the world, lineage 2 was letting you go on the wild, almost everywhere, and die for your clumsyness or being too daring by entering some camps/ places / caves... I think it must be the same feeling for people that begun with the first everquest, or begun elder scrolls with morrowind.

Actual games feel dumbed down and take you by the hand, leave NO place for your brain, for it to be the victim, of your own intelligence, and imagination whatsoever.

in short :

What i like in a mmorpg, is the interactivity with a lot of things, the complexity of the world and systems in it, i like... the mmorpg to be able to let me make my own mistakes, but not in "raids" or dongeons groups, but even when i discover it "alone", i like it to let me play with my own brain, as stupid or as intelligent the things i can come up with in the games world, mostly, i want it to actually let me go everywhere on foot in the world, and for god sake, just not telling me everything i should, or must do, discovering myself that i missed a lot of the things in the game while i'm getting interested to it, even if it means i fucked up my character, or that i fucked up my stat points, let me take risks, just let me play the game and develop my own knowledge of it, while i also develop some cognition about the game.

So, no, the answer is no... "actual" mmo's almost, all failed at recreating this depth, this complexity, this feeling of "discovering" a world to me.

Well, that's ridiculous, i mean, the graphical "improvement" of these characters... These 3D models were already pretty outdated in 2003, they only stepped 3 year later in terms of "modelizing" AND "texturing", so these graphics now looks okay for a game that would be out in 2006.

1000 polys to 5000 in 11 year, just like the average polycount improvement from a playstation 1 to a playstation 2 character. con-gra-tu-la-tions.

Talk about an half assed attempt.
