I liked that it didn't shut down like the russian version.

Well, for me, I like how combat is not simply TAB+Number Key but instead, more free form where I could aim anywhere with the mouse.  Moving while fighting is pretty important in this game.  I like how certain furniture such as bookshelves, crates, barrels, tables can be broken.  I also like to launch a whole bunch of golbins and small cute dogs into the air.  Not as pleasant when a giant dog launches you into the air.

Spacifically regarding classes, I like how for the

  • Sharpshooter - It's like firing a cannon into a crowd
  • Acrobat - Jump into a crowd like a meteor
  • Priest - Charge up the surrounding mobs and watch them explode when you detonate them

In summary, it's like a cute cartoonish version of Vindictus.

so no one likes Perfect World International, or Dragons Nest, or anything like that? (I've been looking at top MMO lists and those were frequent games.)

I did like Dragon Nest up until the current max level of 40.  At that point, it became repetitive raiding in order farm ingredients to craft sets of equipment.  Once the next chapter comes out, I'll be sure to play it again as I liked the storyline.

For PWI, I was hooked on Forsaken World for a few months.  Then the daily rituals of Henry's Quests, God's Trial, Glistening Plains, etc got boring for me.

I think it should be relatively effective for its simplicity.  Now, logins with require 2 factor authentication:

  1. What you have: the physical key
  2. What you know: your usual login and password information
At least it is not asking for who you are (biometrics) and what you do (maybe how you move your mouse).
This type of 2 factor authentication is something I've seen large companies use but like other security measures, it can be broken.

With a set amount of resources (money & time), would you rather have 4 well developed characters (appearances, actions, skills, effects) or 8 mediocre characters?  Or maybe 4 average characters versus 8 poorly developed ones.

  1. There's actually a 2nd skill point reset once you reach the current max level of 40.
  2. For the sorceress, once you learn a particular skill (that I can't remember the name of), holding down the mouse button will tell her to charge up her normal attack instead of repeatedly attacking.
  3. For Archers, they divide into Acrobats and Sharpshooters.  The playing style of the Acrobat is to jump in and attack.  They're quite nimble and works well in open fields.  On the other hand, the playing style of the Sharpshooter is to snipe.  Quite a few Sharpshooter skills will have the Sharpshooter frozen in 1 spot and shooting.  They work wonders in hallways where the mobs are in linear formation.

For those of us that have been around long enough, this is nothing new. The best example of this is email. At one time, free email was percieved as lower quality. Now it is considered the standard. In 5 years the same thing will have happened for gaming.

I nerver get my e-mails to ask me to buy extra space or new fonts, or color for fonts, also he never blocked me to send a e-mail to someone because I didn't have the permition and have to buy it.

But email systems like that exist.  For example:

Yahoo! Mail Plus - Gets you offline POP, 100 more filters, Live Customer Care (sounds familiar), Mail Forwarding, Disposable Addresses, and No graphical ads.

GMail - More space is the only thing that comes to mind at the moment.  Reminds me of buying inventory space.

Hotmail Plus - More space (sounds familiar), No account expiration, No graphical ads.

Of course, you could also stick to the email system that your subscription based ISP provides.

Has this ever happened again?  The only game I know that actually had this happen was Shadowbane.  Sure, players clients were crashing left and right and when you were not crashing you had 1 FPS. It is a record that has not been met since to my knowladge.

Why has technology not progressed enought to deliver us a real MASSIVE multiplayer online role playing game?  Its been 9 years and we now have phones that are more powerful that PC's back then.  What gives?

AIKA online has 1000 vs 1000 wars with 5 factions in one area. Its weird how some F2P mmos can provide support for so many players in 1 spot while some of these new pay to play mmos struggle with lag fests when couple hundreds gather in 1 spot.

I don't know if they've actually had 1000 vs 1000 fights but I've seen fights that had a few hundred.  Unfortunately, my old PC could not handle the strain.  Still, Aika was designed for large fights by limiting the customization of the characters such that there are less variations to keep track of.

Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't.

With a mmorpg, the player can interact with other players (chat, hang out) when they're bored with playing by themselves.  The game could even be considered an elaborate chat room.

There's no chance of that happening with a pure single player game.

The forum moderators here are NOT customer service.  They're not even associated with the company running the game.  Instead, they are regular players (or former players) who just happened to be active and polite on the forums.  As a result, they are chosen to have moderator privilages on the forum.  Outside of the forum, they're just your regular player / former player.

I'm iffy on G1 as a company and hence haven't spent much on them but fortunately, also haven't run into many issues that required a ticket.

3 Things an mmorpg has to have

  1. Great music - I've found that games that have hooked me for more than a year all had great music such that I am willing to listen to them offline.  Game wins extra points for me if the music represents something unique in the game such that just listening to a particular song brings back some good memories.
  2. Large, diverse world that is accessible - By this I mean various environments from urban to desert to snow.  The environment should be pretty but that is not an absolte requirement.
  3. Storyline(s) - Preferably many subplots in addition to the main storyline.  Storyline(s) should update or be created over time via updates/expansions.  Finding out the story of each NPC such as shopkeepers and watchign them progress is fun for me.

3 things that will automatically make me not play an mmo LONG TERM

  1. Subscription - The cost adds up long term regardless of how little one plays.  B2P is good.  Even F2P is fine.
  2. Aggravating community - It is worst than having no community if the existing players go out of their way to annoy you.
  3. Poor human interface - If my hands hurt due to poor controls or the interface is clunky, then the game gets dropped.  Should follow Apple's example in crafting a good interface.

Coming from a time when I had great fun playing MUDs (purely text), flashy visuals and animation are not important to me since one gets used to it easily.
Cash shop / item mall is fine for me but I would prefer that cosmetic items are permanent rather than temporary.

If this happens, will the publishers keep track of your gains and send you the appropriate tax forms at the end of the year?

No, it's only a game.  My cell phone bill is only $30 WITH data.

Also, I've been spending $0 / month on a game that I've been engrossed with for the past 12 months.

I am reminded of this cartoon:

http://youtu.be/q6nK-12Kl6s

based on this game:

http://youtu.be/ACS8A0A8MJ0

I think I act the same in a MMO as I do in real life.  In MMOs, I usually play support characters and try to be helpful.

Coincidentally, I now work with small team that reminds me of the classic MMO party.  There's a:

Tank - A former Marine.  Built like the Hulk.

Warrior - Currently serving and is the lead.  Not as built as the tank but just as fit and can legally carry a firearm.

Medic - A vet with medic skills but main role is to take care of the "party" regarding administrative stuff.

Squishy support characters - One other parson and me.  Hired for our technical expertise.

Now, I'm just waiting to go visit the equivalent of a "dungeon" which the others have been to already.

Sword2 / Granado Espada

For the past month, it is a large widescreen laptop on a wooden table in a hotel room.  I've been changing hotels or hotel rooms every few days.  For audio better than the standard laptop speakers, I've been using headphones.

This game has me hooked for the past month.

I currently have 2 level 37 Priests.  I started on the European PvE server but moved over to the US East PvE server in order to take advantage of the daily events, especially God's Trial which is held during prime time for me.

God's Trial is actually 121 mobs (6 statues * 20 mobs each status + 1 final boss).  However, since it requires a party, I usually play a part in defeating at most of 61 mobs.  The battle lasts between 20 to 30 minutes and for the amount of character experience gained in such a short amount of time, it's relatively much less of a grind than most of the F2P games out there.

Henry's first 10 errands also gives a good amount of character experience and can be completed in 15 minutes if you're lucky with the random tasks.  Additional rewards from it include reputation (Dream Emblem on the 5th and the 10th completion), a cash shop item on the 10th completion of the day (World Flute), and a random assortment of other items (ie. Memory Lotus for use when AFK)

At higher level instances, it's definitely more than "tank & spank" unless one likes being spanked by the bosses.  I've seen quite a few tanks attempt to spank a boss only to be hit by the boss's Blade Rebound skill and be spanked back.

I haven't spent any money on the game so far but after being in a party last night with another character in an adorable maid outfit, I'm sorely tempted.  It's only $3 or $4 for the permanent dress, not including shoes, hair, and privates.  Or maybe I'll just continue saving enough ingame money to trade for cash shop currency (Leaf) for it.

I have a team of level 100 toons in sword of the new world, but that game is kind of special as its more or less built in botting. I played it with a few friends over a period of months, but I wouldnt exactly say it was an amazing game. Mainly just a social chat room for me and a few friends.

 That's only mid level.  :P

I have a level 120 character there, only 48 other characters in the barracks to level up but I'm taking a break.

I also view it as a scenic chatroom nowdays.

Gas prices in my area are between 3.89 and 4.09 this past week for 87 octane.

I spent around $50 during the each of last 2 weekends to fill up but that was due to extra driving to fun places as the weather was good.  I should be able to cut that down to the mid $30s if I drive less on the weekends to nonessential places.

While I think there's no single factor to blame for the higher prices, I do think the financial industry (aka speculators) has an significant effect.  Hence, I've been looking into energy equities and derivatives.  It's actually working out pretty nicely these 2 years and is offsetting the rising price abit.
