Boy was I wrong. A while ago I wrote a glowing first impression of this game and since then my opinion has completely changed. Here's the first post in case you are interested: here.

So why has my opinion changed so quickly? Shortly after making that post I started getting kicked from the game occasionally. I didnt really care then because I attributed to screwing up an update. During this time I was also building a new pc so I assumed whatever error I created would be resolved once I installed the game on a 100% new pc.

WRONG WRONG WRONG.

I installed the game on my new pc and ever 5mins I'm getting booted to the login screen. I've done EVERYTHING I can think of to fix this problem and got nowhere. I've spent weeks trying to get this game to work following any and every internet post I can find and nothing has solved it. I visited the ESO forums and surprise, I'm not the only one this is happening too and no answer has been found.

Ultimately, what I'm trying to say is: if you're thinking about buying this game ... dont. There's always the chance you wont have this problem but I would like to save someone the constant distress of spending $60 on something that doesnt work.

Sounds like a connection issue on your end, and not an issue with the game.

Group.

If i logon and nothing is "Happening" then i log off.

It is pointless to pay for an massively multiplayer experience and then solo.

why would they want Canadians to answer a math question ?  that is really strange hahahahah

what does answering a math question have to do with Elder scrolls ???

oh you guys ...

Canadians have to answer a question because their laws prohibit games of chance. I think there can be games of chance under licensed establishments.

So the work around is that they require an answer to a question so that it is not solely a game of chance.

LOL wow.

Also: "Canada are ineligible to enter or win."?

You people make me laugh. the really crappy Steam Workshop is not the only place to get mods. And is by far not the biggest place that mods exist.

And you make me roll my eyes.
What do you think the masses will do if they have a choice to pay or not?

Its going to cut into your profits as a content producer to offer your product for free and what sane business savvy person would do that?.

They showed monthly updates from when it was prototyping and the progress they made in a short time with one or a couple people working on it. Can any of us truly gauge what the EQN team as a whole is capable of over a given time frame? If so contact DGC and I'm sure they'll give them a project management position lol. Speaking of, if they knew they would have the building tools in Landmark to have build contest your think they would plan for it and work on other things instead. I'm pretty sure the series of events was on some white board long ago. Any long term project requires knowing short and long term goals for all of the pieces, big and small, so that the project goes as smooth as possible with the smallest time wasted. Thing is, either because of people's attitudes towards DGC or MMOs in general, some just assume that the EQN team is incompetent and doesn't know how to function at the most basic level of business. I know that's the thing to do on them 'netz but it is wierd to me. Posting at all infers some investment and why some are so eager to be negatively invested I'll never understand.
Sounds very nice Aelious, but all SOE/Daybreak would have to do to save face is issue a 10s video of an actual Avatar within Norrath.

Ascetically, that is landmark.

What MMO has in your opinion the most immersive mellee combat system?

and please can you explain why ?

I kinda challenge this premise...

Immersion is subjective. I could immerse myself in melee combat with a duel of forks.

What about the atari generation, commodore, nes, super nes, ps1, p2 eras?

What is specific about that generation that changed the course of gaming history?

All the mods will be floating around the internet anyways so it doesnt really matter, does it? If you dont want to pay for them just go to Nexus and dl them for free.

I suspect DRM will be leveraged so that only steam mods will be installable in the future.

They are already in partnership with Bethesda, Bethesda has already accepted and written code for steam authentication to start the game so its not a stretch.

I mean its in the best interest of Bethesda to do this, Profits wise.

No, fraid i don't.

You seem to be comparing a possible vapourware gamble with buying an actual finished product, which is a tad weird, personally i will always opt for the finished product rather than the possibility of one, and in this case,  you would be paying modders for mods that are a finished product, you just download and install them after all, that is a completely different concept to investing money in a possible product that might never happen, see where i am going with this?

Its easy to see the best possible outcomes of things when they are first presented for the masses to adopt.

If this takes off there will be a very real concern that people will produce shit and charge for it, The "market" will be full of low quality mods because you know, everyone wants to make buck much like how the mobile scene is atm.

Actually the mobile scene is a prime example:
make an app or a game, (it can even be blatant mario world copy) and you will receive 75% of the profits for yourselves with the other percentage going to the 'publisher' everyone wins right?

And i remember when i still paid by the minute and it took 20-30 seconds to load a lo-res jpeg...

Thing is... Everything costs money... hosting, bandwith, content and development.

Also i am pretty sure i support any one actually creating stuff being able to charge for it... time is after all money.

I would still pay by the minute if i didn't have to listen the annoying begging from add providers, people asking for likes, thumbs up, comments or any other testimonial so they can get a piece of the pie.

Really sick of everything being monetized.

I'm considering using permanent death in a game I've been making as a hobby. I work on it the few hours a week I have when I'm not at work fulltime.

There is alot of fear and hatred of the concept, mainly beacuse MMO's have become never-ending grindfests and having your avatar destroyed by death would mean the sudden loss of years of agonizing repetitive work.

My proposal is to just do away with the grind. Well, sort of anyways. In my game you play an avatar that is an all powerful dragon that can die (permanently of course).

To make it hard to die, you do most of the gameplay as a mind-controlled human. You train up your human slave over time and you can make them as disposable as you want them to be. Because you can breed them and have dozens of humans, the loss of one or even many is not going to wreck your gameplay.

Your dragon is very powerful and you could fly around as your dragon and destroy other dragons' buildings and humans, but if you are attacked and you die...well its game over.

Just don't do an RPG or MMorpg then your golden.

Games like Faster than light do permerdeath in a way that a broader audience can stomach.
If you need to interact with other players just add that, Multiplayer. No need for persistence or grinding or rpg elements.

As in official announcements and "state of the game" updates.  A lot of folks have invested a lot of hope, time, and money (yes, some of us have bought new systems) JUST for EQ Next.

So, I think at the very least, having Smed or some official from daybreak or whatever the new studio is called, step forward monthly and say, "Hey guys/gals, this is where we are at, and we are not going away" would be of great relief to many on this message board.

Why? to perpetuate your hype?

Nah seriously, Show me how you can just go 1,1,1,1,1,2,3 and not die.

Hey guys. So I've been in the process of learning how to use ue4 and blender a bit. Doing really really tutorial, follow along, type stuff so far. Feels like i have mountains to climb... Anyway since I am clearly inexperienced I wanted to ask a question and gather some insight. I have plans to start work on a multiplayer game once I've gathered some greater understanding.

Now, to the question: is it possible to make a multiplayer game (many people on screen at once) using dark souls style combat (unique items all with unique movements (aniation locks w/ cancels)) while having smooth gameplay and little lag.

I'm well aware that this question probably seems stupid as there are potentially thousands of things a developer can do to affect the results. But because im so inexperienced and ive never seen this done before, I'm very curious. Even dark souls itself had pvp plagued with backstabs from 10 feet away and a whole slew of other maddening scenarios.

Is this issue tied to the animations themselves or what is going on here?

Tera is the closest thing I can think of that does this kind of combat on a large scale but even then the animations are basically bound to classes. Any class cannot pickup any weapon and perform any attack with said weapon.

Sorry for my poor understanding and probably poor questions but if anyone sees what I'm asking here, any insight would be greatly appreciated as my understanding on game development is only just blossoming.

Edit: also any tips on breaking up the wall of text lol because using enter seems to do nothing once posted.

There is a reason why games like darksouls costs millions to make.

Even once your educated, the amount of work involved both on the animation side and the programming size is huge for an individual.

I also present to you:

It fits all the criteria of MMO, RPG and FPS.

Yeah but the cancelled Titan, so we're stuck with WoW for a while to come.
Project Titan was NOTHING like WoW - it wasn't even a MMORPG - it was more of a MMO - this from a blizzard employee who actually played Project Titan while in development.

Blizzard has no intention to make another game that would compete with WoW  at this time  - look at their upcoming/recent games - MOBA, shooter, card game.

Notice something - they are all different genres - so was Titan - it was an entirely different genre from WoW/fantasy MMORPG.

From all sources, Titan was indeed an mmorpg.
