The art style is colorful but it seems it was made to attract the teenagers of the world. The 5v5 pvp was such a disappointment, they are nothing more than glorified alliance battles which back in the day people shunned at as being real pvp.  The Word pvp is nothing more than a huge zerg fest which was unappealing to me.

Now I am not saying there is this all great mmo out there because there isn't and I am not really trying to compare mmos here but this mmo is really no different than what we have been playing for the past 10 years or so. I played the original for 5+ years and loved every minute of it. It seems ArenaNet has changed that winning formula because I have this off feeing they changed the combat system to have it appeal to console players. Console players are used to that action dodge and roll combat while pc gamers are more used to something more tactical. After all these years of GW2 being in developement this is what we got ? Very disappointed on how everything about GW2 has turned out. Good luck to those who continue!

Ill say this...

My immediate impressions or reminissions were:

1.ryzom
2.Rift.

Dunno why but art direction really reminds me of ryzom.

It felt very much like i was playing rift with the de's i could find a real difference in mechanics.

What they should of done:
Abolish levels. your getting scaled down anyway so why not just dynamically scale up as well so you can do all the zones at the same difficulty?

Where's the progression then? internal character progression and overarching story.

Lastly, You don't really make a persistent impact on the world, I think if arche age took some of gw2 systems would have a perfect storm for an mmorpg.

Lies.

Actually GW2's combat isn't simply just more fluid and better animated. It is far, far deeper then TSW's combat. And I'm not even talking about the fact that GW2 has 15 active skills with weapon swap compared to a measly 7 for TSW.
If were using the swapping argument, i could switch a deck on the fly. giving me endless possibilities

In Guild Wars 2, the boons and condition system means you have tons more variables per move to consider. Many skills add multiple buffs to allies and multiple conditions to foes. To master this system and to figure out which skill is ideal in each situation may take many months wereas in TSW each skill has at most one buff or condition.
TSW Group synergies do exactly the same thing, argument is void.

Then you got to learn the combo system. You have to learn how to weapon swap to maximize the combo system.

Tsw doesnt have an equivalent, Closest thing would be weapon synergies.

Then you got learn how to combine combo's with other players and proffesions. To create optimal cross proffesion combo's is the kind of depth and complexity that sadly lacks in any other mmo, but TSW certainly doesn't come close. Aside from the cookie cutter stuff there is nothing there in TSW that goes deep at all. The only depth in TSW's combat is figuring out which skills to pick in the ability wheel. When your done with that, the rest of the combo is simple and mundane at best.

Again group synergies, argument is void.

In summary, Both games are at or near equal complexity.

Although not completely similar what is wrong with that if SWTOR has same activities to do? i would say good for SWTOR that it has other things to do then just dungeon grind. Mind givign us awesome things to do in GW2 past inital content since you love flaming TSW and SWTOR for it in almost every post.
The fact that I have to even answer this for you or that you even asked that question speaks volumes.  SWTOR is long known to have a major endgame issue or lack there of.  So if TSW has the same type of endgame, that means it failed in delivering a viable endgame.  For most gamers.  Maybe it pleases you, that's fine.  You are probably the ultra casual crowd the game caters to.  Happy you have a game to keep you paying, ahem, I mean playing.  For me, though, it's a huge let down and I won't be happy giving TSW any money until it grows to 2 times it's current size in length and depth.  Which could happen, Lotro did that for me after 2 years.  Up until that 2 year mark, though, it wasn't worth subbing to.

Don't think its going to pan out the way you believe.

end of july it will increase by 25% in land mass content, and that's only the first month.

Not really.  Divide his time in half or maybe even divide it 2 more times in half.  You would still only end up with the whole wheel filled out within 2 maybe 3 months tops, time.  That's pretty sad, considering the game isn't really Alt friendly at all.  The only reason to even play the game is to chase after AP.  Once you've done that, what is there to do?  What is the point?  This is where the game is truly shallow beyond the skill wheel.  And now we find that the skill wheel itself is quite shallow.

Probably has more stuff than wow, and that has 10 millions subscribers.
so whats your point?

EDIT, was misleading title, I copied from the official forums.

In order to do that you have to relentlessly grind something for the soul purpose of filling out the wheel. There is much more to the game then the wheel if you broaden your scope.

I'm not enjoying my time in beta. Im sorry its just not for me.

I will comment on somethings tho: people comment on gw2's combat, exploration and quest system as an evolution. imo its not.

Ive been playing all day, Going from one de to next and its tiring, I dont feel a connection to my character or the world by doing them and to compound this its gotten to the stage where they are repeating. Great idea, im sure people will like it just not for me.

Liner, First red flag i saw was in the tutorial area where i was asked to please return to the boundaries......or we will do it for you. That doesn't actually give you a choice does it.

This also returns in solo story missions, rather than putting a wall or some static object to keep you within the confines of the story, they present a red area on the map, give no reason why you cant wander that far and kick you from the instance if you don't comply. bad design there.

Granted, general questing you can go where you chose within the confines of your level, but by definition that is liner, Again not saying thats bad, just a half truth there is free will.

Finally the combat or rather its animations....they are just too "airy" you float around with your arms going everywhere like your on some rad acid trip. doesn't appeal to me sorry.

I disagree with "Its just a ....", because its such an easy way to belittle someone's life. Its just a sport. Its just a job. Its just a girl/boy.

Anything someone devotes a lot of their time and energy into is more than, "its just" to them. To dismiss it is the same as saying, "The choices you have made and the things you like are unimportant and meaningless."

However anything can be taken to far, games, work, even relationships. When that happens its important that the person gets the help they need. Saying "Its just ..." Isn't going to help them.

Pockets thoughts mean nothing, its just a blog.

silly people attempting killing and dying over games.

At the risk of taking things completely to far and out of context

Is that any worse or better than dying for someone else's ideals?
There is no good reason for unnecessary death.

As for a remake:

http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/725346/final-fantasy-7-remake-shelved-until-original-ff7-has-been-topped/

A real remake......there was already a final fantasy 7 for pc years, and years ago.

Ideally, i would be content with graphics in the realm of advent children.

Why were they driven from the earth?

Hi,

I'm just debating whether I should buy this game or not.   I've already purchased GW2 which is coming out on Aug 28.  So I don't know if I want to spend the money to buy this game to play just for a month.

I've read some other threads about there is no end-game or anything like that. or the game is too short  I don't really care about end-games.  I'm a casual and slow player.  I figured that they will have some more stuff put in by the time I actually get to the level cap.

I would of bought the game by now but since knowing that GW2 is a month away, I'm not sure if buying the game is worth the money.    The stories and setting seems interesting and it's not a fantasy setting like GW2 which is good for me to have two different type of mmo to play.

Anyway, so to all the curret players...is it worth the $50?  Will I get sick or tired of it within a month?  Or will there still be more interesting stories and zones for me to explore after a month?

Sorry to bug you guys about this.  Thanks.

Yes, its definably worth its value, With enough content to sustain.(endgame, group, single)

But sounds like your going to be content with guild wars to so you should just save your money.

Final Fantasy 7.

So basically, you want to play a "game".  MMORPG's were much more than that at one time, not so much any more. So you're also the poster child of anti-socialization as well, very good sir.  A poster of many talents it would seem. edit: Remember what Will Rogers said, ""A stranger is just a friend I haven't met yet."
Of course i want to play a GAME. I already have a life, i don't need a second one.

Oh, i have made friends online in games like WOW & Diablo 3 .. but  that is not the focus of the GAME.

This is where the disconnect happens i think, I would speculate that mmorpgs were created by nerds, for nerds. people that really spent a lot of time in game looking to socialise with others.

I remember a time before the internet when i would hang out at home and play my single player rpg's because i loved them, then when the internet came i was so very happy i could interact with many other ppl like me that loved rpgs in a large virtual worlds.

MMOers are so stuck on the gear treadmill they dont even know they are not having fun any more. So you play content to get more powerful to be able to get to harder content to get more powerfull to go do harder content to get more powerfull. Why not play content for the fun of it? Why do you play any video game other then a MMO? To get gear or see and play the game? GW2 is bringing back just playing the game to have fun.

For as long as i can remember(80-90's), RPG's have had progression systems, a better sword, a better shield, a better magic..

The incentive was always to make your character more powerful.

Well, it's official (sort of). The World of Warcraft-killer has been named, and they're calling it League of Legends.

A research firm known as DFC Intelligence has released a report claiming that Riot's MOBA was the most popular PC game in North America and Europe last year in terms of hours played. The title took home the top spot with 1.3 billion hours of activity, while WoW dropped to second place with 622.4 million user hours.

What a relief that is. People do prefer gameplay.

Left the part out about how it all hinges on xfire data.....

Still looking for a key, Havnt played in any betas "wana see what it has to offer"

The game launched under a week ago, And people are asking for content upgrades?
