Xsyon Earth 2012: Prelude: A Brave New World
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 3/01/11 11:47:51 PM
WSIMike is the only sane person in this thread. If you still can safely get out of your protected settlement this can only mean two things: 1. PvP isn't implemented yet or 2. the Goons and siblings haven't heard of this game yet. Remove the non-consensual PvP crap and I'll be all over this game. But I am paying to play a game on my terms, not on someone else's. |

General: Jennings: How PvP Can Break Your Game
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 12/20/09 9:20:08 AM
"How PvP Can Break Your Game" This column is about games that are PvP from level 1 to the top, and how it is not trivial to implement PvP properly. Yet reading the title I thought it'd be about something else: games with an identity crisis, those who can't figure out whether they are PvP or PvE? Like Fallen Earth for instance, with PvP constantly getting in the way of PvE, and abilities being nerfed for PvP purpose and affecting PvE where their effect is different. Or something closer to home, Aion for instance, where you quest/grind in PvE 'till level 20, then are subjected to non-consensual PvP since all the zone past 20 are shared between factions. Or that those who only care about the PvP aspect needing to be subjected to weeks or months of PvE before they can play the way they like. Don't these things break a game too? I don't know, as far as I'm concerned, the MIXING of PvE and PvP is what can break things (at least for one of the sides among the playerbase), just stick to one one the other. |

I played the game during the first month and liked it. Rather refreshing and not at all like WoW AFAIC. I'd still be playing if they had fast travel, free and to and from any city, instead of the hours and hours of riding through an empty landscape. |

Gods and Heroes: Perpetual Downsizes, G&H Release Delayed
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 9/24/07 5:30:18 AM
Don't try and read too much between the lines. So they are laying off 30-40 people at the point they were planning to release the game, and they are delaying the game to add some polish? Makes sense. The main parts of the game are finished. They may not need anymore as many sound people, graphics artists, animation specialists, world designers, etc. The actual polish can be done with less people. And a sound guy may not be the best person to tune the graphics engine or write quests or whatever. Why didn't they move these people onto another game? It may be fully staffed, may not be at the right stage of development, be on a different budget or whatever. I don't know. Nobody who can post knows. And those who speak can't be trusted because they've already lied on the NDA :). |
