all they need for success is $.01 profit

lol, yea if all the workers at Bioware are social workers working for free. lol

You don't seem to know what profit is. It is what is left after all bills, operating costs, and wages are paid.

You do realize that LA is not handing the publishing, marketing and distribution for The Old Republic right? So that's a big difference right there.

Last November EA and LA made a new deal where EA is taking over those responsibilities.

Sourcing

I think we have a bitter and twisted pre NGE SWG player here; Awful post that really doesn't warrant reply because it is so far off track it beggars belief.

"Lucas Arts Screwed nothing Up"

Bioware and Lucas Arts have a great working relationship just look to all the new cannon they have developed together. The need to reply is just to state a couple of things ; SWTOR is a different beast to SWG it has been developed by the Masters of the RPG , and to be honest not really sure they should be compared.

A fantastic all round development nopt to be compared witha legacy MMO which is all but dead.

Whatever come of SWTOR will be but failure is not in the mix. ......

One question did Lucas Arts loose money on SWG ? Because thats the benchmark and I am not sure money was lost...

Did you mean to quote a different post?

Sure they have some Lucas Arts people working closely on the project, but it is to make sure they are making an iconic Star Wars game.

Bad choice of word there lol.  I do hope you are right though.

Yes, I was cringing as I put that word in there. I hope it is iconic Star Wars, but even if it isn't I will still give it a try. It is Bioware after all. I have yet to play a Bioware game that I didn't love. Until they make a bad game I will always stick by them.

All of the points about if it was SOE or Lucas Arts who screwed up SWG is moot. SWTOR is being developed by Bioware, and EA is the publisher. They licensed the IP from Lucas Arts but Lucas Arts can't tell them when to release and how to build the game. They can limit how much freedom they have with the IP, but that is about it. Even the freedom is moot. It is Star Wars. As long as they make it witht he Star Wars setting and history, they are fine. They can even create new history, as they are currently doing, as long as it doesn't already tread upon existing history.

I have no doubt that Lucas Arts will not be able to screw this up, even if it was them that screwed up SWG. Sure they have some Lucas Arts people working closely on the project, but it is to make sure they are making an iconic Star Wars game. Since this game is not set during the films, Bioware seems to have tons of freedom.

I would love to give this game a try and prefer to try before I buy. Please PM me with a key if at all possible.

It has been released, but there are still some game breaking bugs.. awesome. One such bug right now is if you delete a character then create a new one with the same name, you cannot access the auction house nor the item shop. Been almost two days and Nexon hasn't even acknowledged it as a problem.

The people who think this is blizzard's fault have no clue as to how people are actually getting their accounts stolen, and don't want to know. My previous post says it all. If that doesn't clear it up then there is no helping them and they should just be left to rant for the sake of ranting.

It is both parts the users and Blizzard's fault.

The user's are likely not taking all of the precautions they should be, and Blizzard is not following the best practices for IT security design and management.

Purely blaming one or the other is ignoring the real issues.

Not trying to be picky but how?  Every design that allows external assess has it weakness.

Insider information helps a lot in tracking down the weakness, but constant probing will sometimes hit a blind spot by luck.

As a well known dictum for systems design, there is no fool proof system, nor bug free system.  At that point in design that is the best a few heads can figure out.  Upon deadline, the system will have to be implemented.  There is just so many man hours you can spend in design stage, or we will never see our games, or whatever software, or whatever product at all.

Using user email as the username is not best practices. Best practices of IT security is that username is kept as private as the password is. By using an email address as a username, you are exposing half of the login information. You can say "so what?" Well, just look at the spike of hackings since the B.net conversion and you have your "what".

Best practices for IT security also emphasizes the fact that users are very likely going to do something stupid, or not do everything they need to. That's why you have to design a system with this in mind, and make it as simple as possible for the user to behave in a secure manner. Which again, forcing the B.net username to be the email definately goes against this methodology.

Hate to burst your bubble, but there were the same amount of spikes and the stealing of accounts was just as rampant before they made that change. Keyloggers will steal the info no matter what info it is. Even if they don't already have the username, it is just as easy. Here is how it works.

After the email as username change: The keylogger detects the username and password being entered, logs the info, and sends it to the hacker.

Before the email as username change: The keylogger detects the username and password being entered, logs the info, and sends it to the hacker.

Nothing changed or got easier after they made that change. Everything just stayed the same.

This is exactly truen in terms of IT with large companies. Right now stealing some players accounts is more prifitable than stealing a bank account. With the current systems it is just as easy to get the login info for wow as it is to get the login info for bank websites. Blizzard literally cannot do more than they already are. User machines are not employee machines that they can cut off from the rest of the web behind a huge ass firewall.

Blizzard cannot log into a user's machine to make sure it is clear of keyloggers. Blizzard cannot tell the difference between a user entering the correct log in information and a "hacker" entering the same information. The only possibility blizzard can make it better is to make authenticators mandatory, which will then lead to it getting even worse.

Once authenticators become mandatory or enough that hackers have to worry about it, it will get bad. They will start creating viruses to put on the user's system to intercept the login data so the authenticator code never gets to blizzard. It will instead get sent to the hacker who can then use it to log in. A virus like this already exists, though extremely rare. Once authenticators become the norm that virus will spread with the same rate as the current keyloggers. Then there is no stopping it outside of a biometric reader.

I love when this hapens people point fingers at blizzard. It isn't Blizzard's fault you got your account stolen. 99% of the time it is our own fault. Blizzard doesn't have to help you get it back, they do it out of customer service sake. Speaking of, the OP did it wrong. When I got my account stolen.. twice, I emailed them and both times had it resolved in a day. I never even attempted to call them because I know how large companies operate. They almost always have large hold time. The only way they would not have hold time is if they had 30,000 call center agents. That is not realistic. Most large companies have, at most, 5,000-10,000 worldwide. That is for the largest companies, like Dell. I expect WoW has 1,000-3,000 at most. Maybe less.

I was hacked twice before they made the change with the email. The way the keyloggers do it.. it makes no difference if you use your email address or not. NO difference. They have the same difficulty either way, so don't even try to blame the email addresses. Just the act of logging into the game gives them the info they need. They would have the info they need from that even if the email addresses were not used to log in.

The iPhone authenticator is free, if you don't have that and you DO have a cell you could still probably get a mobile authenticator for 99 cents.

Go here if you have a cell to find out if yours is compatible. http://mobile.blizzard.com/us-en/support-compat.html

If it is compatible you can get the authenticator by going to http://mobile.blizzard.com on your cell phone and clicking the authenticator link in the middle

If you cell is not compatible, then you will need to get the physical one. Before you say anything, no, blizzard is not forcing you to buy it. They offer it as a courtesy and make no direct money off if it. Any cost for the authenticator is to cover the cost of creating or distributing that one unit. They make NO profit from it.

The people who are trying to make a profit are the ones who try to buy out the blizzard store and sell them all on ebay for $40 each.

Not to mention Obsidian has some of the developers from the original Fallout games.

Republic side can be light or dark, sith side can be light or dark. Being light side or dark side is not dependant on you affiliation. That being said, from my understanding by reading the info ont he website, the only classes that are dependant on faction is jedi and sith.

Well I can name two really good sci-fi games.

Anarchy-Online and EVE-Online

The announcement that blizzard made was about Diablo III though.

Doooooooom!!!!!

Seriously though, all you people who think they took down the forums to keep out the flamers.. are idiots.

Tarib specifically stated that they were takign down the forums and replacing them with new ones with different sections. Only early release players will be able to access them until the 20th.

I take it you are not a fan of Gears of War?

I am farely sure you can start downloading on the 14th.

What is the exact model of your LCD and what is the optimal resolution for it? Set it to the optimal resolution and it should be fine... unless the video card does not support it.

FFXI has been available on the 360 since April of 2006.

To answer the OPs question. There are no official download options available for it. You can find plenty of sources by doing a google search, but I would be wary since they may or may not be safe. Best bet is if you know someone who has the CDs.

For those that are wondering, release date for Trinity is December 5th.

Also, screenshots rarely look as good as when you are actually in the game or watching a video. Video cards don't matter much either in terms of how things look. Performance with good settings, yes. SLI doesn't improve how things look, just performace on SOME games.
