This game has a ton of great aspects and a ton of horrible ones.  Sadly the horrible ones are game breakers and made me unsub.

1.  I hit level 90 and found I couldn't do the SOLO content in the new Velious areas due to AA's not being high enough(mine were at 177 when I hit cap), this wierd critical mitigation stat requirement for the zones and the level gap is STILL there even at level 90 because the game is so gear oriented it's disgusting.

for what its worth,

much of that changed last week

http://eq2wire.com/2011/09/30/september-30-2011-update-notes/

update removes the need for Critical Mitigation from Velious overland zones

Well that bites, just unsubbed, but anyway, I'll come back in November with the expansion as I'll have a whole new class to play, more interesting game systems to play with like player made dungeons and all the collectable type mini game stuff going in.  Really wish they would overhaul the crafting system so that I could literally do it in less time and maybe have more quests throughout the whole crafting experience as opposed to just at the start of each tier.

I wish that had been in earlier too. When I got to Velious I got owned instantly by a badger; it was pretty embarrassing. I ended up getting guild help as I went through Velious, and, while I enjoy grouping a lot, it was a pain when no one was around to help

"Little innovation, even from its outset"

Yet innovation gets an 8/10.

There are numbers besides 7, 8, and 9 that you can use to more closely correlate with the garbage you're spewing.

As I explained above, I found little innovation to the genre, but innovation within the game since launch.

After reading this, I was looking for page 2. Because somehow the writer fails to mention crafting and housing. Which are major selling points for many EQ2 players.

Not to mention how AA isnt just a mix of talent trees. The fundamental difference with talent trees or other comparable alternate advancement systems in other games, is that you as player can chose how much xp is going to lvling and how much xp is going to AA. So you can even put 100% XP into AA. So fleshing out AA without lvling.

Then there is no mention of the mentoring system. Another very important feature for anyone who likes to group (like the writer). It makes it possible to always group with your friends regardless of lvl difference. The bonus xp that it gives makes it another incentive.

The write up is very shallow and incomplete, written by someone who only mentions what he/she is interested in.

I didn't mention housing since it's been there since launch, I believe, or at least since before the previous review, the same goes for mentoring (I remember mentoring my lowbie friends back in '05 or '06), though I agree both are great features and a source of a lot of fun.

As for crafting, I have no real knowledge base when it comes to crafting in any MMO. For this reason I tend not to comment on it, because I'd rather leave it blank than go off on a tangent on something I know nothing about. This being said. I should probably start looking into it in various games to get a feel for the different crafting systems so I can comment on them in the future, so I thank you for the motivation :)

You dont really give a reason to not review certain features.  Housing and crafting has changed too, just like pve content. More recipes have been added and every toon can now be the owner of more then 1 house. There are also new types of housing. It is quite obvious that this would be a big deal for players that like EQ2 housing.

If you leave out features on purpose in your review, then you shouldve at least mentioned why. The way it is now, its not really a re-review. Also, anyone who just checks the most recent review of a game, wouldnt even learn about the existence of the features you left out.

EDIT: I just realised that it makes no sense to give a score to a MMO if you only review part of the features. Then what is the score really about?

You make a good point, and I'll definetly delve into crafting and other features I may not know much about to give an interpretation, or at least explain why I have left an interpretation out.

In my on-going efforts to bring reviews and critics back to reality...

Under cons this review listed "Little innovation, even from its outset" and yet still gave this title an 8/10 under innovation.

I feel as if people just pull numbers out of their asses (or are paid to do so?).  Please, at the bottom of the review write "I was paid to give this game higher numbers" or use a numbering system that is accurate.  If you feel this game is an 8/10 or 2 steps away from perfection, great, but please don't include conflicting opinions within the same article!

I felt there was little innovation to the genre, but innovation within the game itself as it went from launch to where it is now; that's why the scores/pros and cons are like that. I appologize for the confusion

this review is totally false. There's no issues with graphics AT ALL in this game or server problems. The games polished and then some. It seems like there is some funny business going on with Paragon studios working their lies into "critics" here to slam a game that is 1000x better than CoH.  I'm putting this on twitter and my site saved as is so doesn't matter if you delete my post. I've archived a big file of lies paragon studios tells.

Champions is 100% fine and you can level to the end game without some lame incarnate trials. Level 6 or 11 powers are bigger and better in Champs then the incarnate powers you get at the end-game of CoH/V.

I never said it was a bad game, in fact I had a lot of fun with it. Perhaps they were computer issues with the client crashing or internet issues with disconnects, but the character getting stuck during certain animations leaves me to believe that there are some glitches in the game.

Hey folks,

Thanks for the info!

So far I conclude:

1) melee issue has been fixed

2) there is more content

Now I have a question left:

How are things with guilds? I recall distinctly trying to make a guild (and needing something like 6 or 8 peeps to do so - prediculous :p), and then also *reading* (never got to test it since a guild starts small usually; I never will understand what moved them to make it impossible to start a guild with a small group) that a guild/supergroup really did not have any bonusesusus.

So...I am curious about the 'state of the supergroup' and the existence of guild halls, or bases, or whatever they are named (if they exist - I think I read something to that effect?).

Mostly, despite the fact I think they still do not have housing, I am now sufficiently interested again to sub, if there is such a thing as a *functtonal* SG base (teleporters; crafting; whatevuh).

It's the last hurdle for me. My friends want to have something to build together. Is it there?

Again, my thanks in advance,

Lucas

I didn't join a supergroup personally, so I can't really comment on how they function. I found that i ran into the same toons quite frequently in game, so I still got a guild-esque feel from interacting with the same people, even if just by coincidence, over and over.

Since you're looking into building something with your friends, though, like Ashen_x said it doesn't take too many people to start a SG, so you could build whatever they can do if you could get a few friends in with you.

If CO could get a user generated content tool like the foundry or CoX architech, the main issue of content would be much solved.

qft. While I don't think this type of system would work in a lot of MMO settings, I tend to think it flourishes in the super hero genre. It's just such an open setting, there's room for players to really have their imaginations come alive in a way that doesn't conflict with established lore. Plus, with the nemesis system I could see how this could be a great way for player to have their ideal villain really come to life

I agree, the PVP system is pretty messed up. The reason I didn't really touch on it is I felt that it hasn't really changed that much since launch; it was broken then and is broken now lol The only thing that I saw really change in PVP was the additional map. The set-in-stone power sets do make it a tad bit more balanced, but not really since freeforms can still grab a FTM built and own everyone :p

This should prolly be moved to the general discussion forum; nothing to do with SW:TOR

As for the bad. I have heard that because they have made the game so SOLO friendly with the even the instances scaling that the game is not as sociable as some. But I have a few friends that are coming to play the game with me so we will run instances and missions together. I am always also looking to join others that like to actually play an MMO with other people. I know I know wierd concept..

It is a rather solo friendly game, but I find that a ton of people group just for the hell of it. I can't remember at the lower lvls, but I know 25+ I found it generally easy to find a group. Also, there's usually something or another going on around the main courtyard in Millennium City, and a ton of people are often RPing in the nightclub.

SWTOR being designed as a single-player lobby system, non massively-multiplayer game, is still a single-player-esque lobby system game.  Big deal that I get new "emotes" with grouping.

I agree that if it does indeed only give trivial fluff it's no big deal. Others won't necessarily see it that way, however, and it would encourage them to group. I see this as a good thing.

I don't want fluff items. I think social points should let you get the best light saber in the game, and things like that.

That would be cool, and would def give more reasons for everyone to group. I was simply saying that even if it only gave fluff grouping would increase. If person A solos most of the time, but likes fluff, and person B groups for the sake of grouping, then person A and B could join up and both would get something out of it, unlike what seems to be the norm in mmos these days where the person who likes grouping has fun, but the one who doesn't merely gets an exp cut

Well, i don't know when the last time the previous posters played or how many hours a day they played but 4 days....not sure I am buying. The Vibora bay add on alone was roughly 20 hours of play.

I play a couple of MMOs and other games at a time so I am not sure in condenced hours how long it took me but it was a few months before I hit the level cap. Then there are PVP and Unity missions after level cap, Now there is The Serpents Lantern, which is pretty big.

I am guessing if you don't play 12+ hours a day it should take you a few months.

4 days seems about right if he was playing when it first launched. It was ridiculously easy to lvl in the beginning (though content was scarce, mobs could be taken down as if they were made of glass). I know a few people hit max as soon as 2 days after launch. They actually upped the difficulty of mobs and did some exp adjusting or something to make it harder to get to max. Not sure how long it takes now a days.

I really like what they did to melee. I tried to play at launch and was consistently crushed. With the changes they made to melee I can hold my own now, and often find myself surpassing my ranged toons in terms of dmg/survivability/fun

I think the game is more fun than CoH/CoV, though I do wish there were more varied power options; they all seem roughly similar to each other atm (my opinion, of course).

I thought it was a fun game, decent amount of powers to choose from, good visual customization. It's pretty easy to get the hang of, though combat can sometimes get a bit easy or repetitive. Various battleground PvP including TFFA, FFA, Zombie-style last man standing, ect. Like one of the posters above said, you can't be a villain, although you are able to make a villain enemy to fight against, which is kind of cool. I would at least give the free trial a shot :)

I'm going PS3. With a USB keyboard it's not that much of a hassle, and I like the way super hero games play with a controller (used a 360 controller for champions and found it more fun than mouse and keyboard). Also, all my friends are getting it for PS3; I'm sure that factors in somewhere :p

NO THEY WONT! The guy who responded doesnt know what the heck hes talking about. PS3 and PC servers will be SEPERATE! go to http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/tag/3321/The_MMO_Report.html  Go down to the special E3 version part 2 and skip ahead to DC Universe Online, Chris Cao (game director of DCUO) confirms that the servers will be seperate, its been in multiple interviews with other people also. They will be SEGREGATED at launch

This saddens me. I was hoping they would overlap

I like EQ2 better than EQ1 these days. The gameplay seems fresher somehow, plus the graphics are a huge bonus. I also like the nostalgia I get from visiting places that were in EQ1, and since they keep adding new zones it stays fresh. I don't think the sense of exploration in EQ2 is the same as it once was in EQ1, but I think that sense more or less went away with Planes of Power. Why risk the dangers walking from Freeport to Qeynos is I can just port there?

Anyways, I think you can still get an equal sense of exploration, if that' what you're looking for, in EQ and EQ2. Just don't use the fast travel systems :)
