I think this may be one big thing.  People want to and love to invest a huge amount of time, effort, and emotion into MMOs.  I just play TOR for the story, some pvp and flashpoints, and having a good time with friends.

I'm not playing it to raid or be the best geared PvP with all the trimmings.  It's star wars, has great music, the best story in a mmo, combat is alright.  I had more fun playing WoW, but I had like...300 people I could play with at any time in that game.

Also I might add that I find that I treat it like a co-op rpg then anything else. To be honest thats kinda what it is imo. A co-op rpg with stuff added on to it which is all the stuff you have to pay more which also shows why I dont really care about anything in the cah shop.

Seriously though who do I have to force choke to get my extra quickbars!

What server are you on?

The oceanic pve one. I cant belive they have oceanic servers that are actually in the oceanic area... No company does this for me not even the mighty Blizzard. 30 ms in swtor what... WHAT This doesnt make... I need to lie down.

2) You haven't reached the point where the quickslot bar limitation becomes a problem

I bought the game because I really enjoyed the sith assasin story in the open beta.  I didn't have a well informed opinion of the game until hitting the level cap

1) I agree. I have no money invesment from the start plus I know when it starts to suck I can walk away with no money spent.

3) I would only get a sub if by lv50 I really really REALLY REEEEAAAALLLLLYYY like it and even then probably not.

So I get free to play Star Wars for a laugh. Ive read all the rage here and I just want to see what its like.

I get in and man its really fun. I thought the combat was going to be press your button 100000 years later it responds but no its pretty responsive. Theres something fun about running around blasting things in the face or wielding a lightsaber. The combat is not that bad. The story quests are really good too I was having more fun with them then I though I would.

Yeah i was there before Battlegrounds but WOW always had instances and loading screens between islands,no other way to get across the sea unless you load.

I think you're nit picking.  Sure you load into instances and have to load between the two (now four major) land masses but thats cus theres a huge ocean or time/portal/wavey thing in the way, I can run,walk,fly from booty bay in the south of the eastern kingoms isle to the plaguelands in the north without a loading screen.. depending on the route I take I would pass by a dozen or more zones without a loading screen.  The Eastern kingdons Isle is estimated to be 100km/s in total that I can run around in without a loading screen.. I would consider that open world and any game that behaved similar would IMHO be open world.

Seriously i'm not nit picking,a MMO world is totally open or it isn't,you cant have it both ways.Nearly being open is not the same as being open.

I play football and sometimes i nearly score a goal but i miss,so that means i didn't score,their is no inbetween.I do the lottery and i had 5 numbers,you need six for the jackpot but five nearly gave me the winning prize but it didn't because i didn't have six numbers.

In WOW you can go from one area to another on said island but to cross a sea or do i dungeon i have to enter an instance or load a screen to cross the sea.

In vanguard i go to the dungeon and it's part of the open world and i can find other people using the same dungeon because it's a open world.I need to go from qalia to thestra,sure i can use a riftway but i can also fly,ride or sail their,i'm not forced to use a loading screen because it's an open world.

You see the differance from Vanguard and WOW,would you call LOTRO an open world MMO?

People here can get the hump all they like but the fact remains that games like WOW and LOTRO and any game with instances are not true open world MMO,that was the question of the OP.

Perhaps the next true open world MMO will be AA but it's not Tera and it never was WOW.

You just can't let anyone have the opinion that WoW is open world to them, can you?  Guess what, you lose in that respect.  No matter how hard you try to convince us, those of us who feel WoW is "open world", like myself, will continue to do so.  Now, do I feel Vangaurd is "more" open? sure.  Do I really care about a small difference?  NO.  I only care when the game is butchered into instance oblivion like Vindictus or EQ2.  That's when I would be "nitpicking" at this very RELATIVE and SUBJECTIVE issue.

Anyway, along the lines of "feeling" open world and seamless, up and coming I believe ArcheAge and Tera will fit that bill.  Also, while GW2 sports loading screens between zones, they say the zones are fairly massive and can feel "open world"

Another game that used loading screens per zone but always felt like a massive living world, was FFXI.  So, go figure.

Its not fact because there is no true official definition of open world or true official set of rules to check it on. Sylvarri unless you can get everyone on board with your definition and make it official then his interpretation is just as valid as yours. I mean how open must your world be

For instance lets for a second theorise that back in Classic they divided EK and Kalimdor for computer memory reason which they probably did but anyway made them both seemless and open. Would you cut them some slack or not? Then they add dungeons oooh but now they've crossed the line in the sand sorry! Even though they did it for a gameplay reason.

I can see the point, and agree to it's validity.  However, chest thumpin, and braggin cause you downed hogger with more hit points and scarier adds is just plain silly to me.  And I also question the "skill" of some of these players as well, I'd like to see them down the bosses without all of the addons, mods, timers etc.  Play with the basic UI and no addons (the entire raid group), and down the bosses...that would be some real skill in my opinion.  But I'm old, currently at work, out of coffee, and down to a couple cigs, I might just be being a curmudgeon.

Haha well we can question a lot of things in WoW but in the end I'm like whatever cause lets face it. Blizzard is a crazy rollercoaster when it comes to WoW. I also agree that being rude over killing pixles is silly. Yet I think there is some degree of difficulty even in WoW, my point being heroics, and saying there isnt is just being bias. You might think there isnt much but there is some difficulty in WoW otherwise everyone would be rolling over heroics with the top end raiding guilds who devote their lives and get sponsored for doing it in the first week.

These ex-vets are usually the ones saying how easy or dumb down it is. I'd like to see someone say that after doing 25man Ragnaros in Hardmode.

That's ONE boss mister. How about the rest of the bosses (the heroic ones as well) in FL. And what about this hilarious Dragnsoul? When a mediocre guild (my guild) on an almost dead realm (The Venture Co. EU) kills Cataclysm's final boss in just 2 (yes, 2) resets then something is very wrong with WoW's endgame. 

On normal mode? Ohhh, look out everyone we have a badass over here!

Yeah, the first time I beat Rags 6 years ago wasn't even a choice of normal or heroic, kinda like the first time I beat ony, and nef.  First time I beat ZA and ZG, they were raids, there was no heroic, it just was.  Heroics have added a new wheel to run on it's true, and they have added a new tier of difficulty...but why?  The current tier of raiding in cata has three difficulty raids (LFR, Reg, and Heroic)....wtf for?

The only benefit that LFR has brought was a way for those without the time to raid or a guild to raid in, to see content they normally could not see.  I think it's a great idea, and I don't begrudge them the ability to see content that I as a current raider in wow am trudging through.  Heroic modes...well, if that's your deal, more power to ya.  If it makes you feel superior, fantastic, you win the interenet sir/madam, I cannot begin to rise to your greatness, here's a plate of cookies, a slice of pie and a whole damn cake for you.  Want some milk to wash that down? 

I have run heroic encounters back in Wrath when they were first introduced, and I was all jazzed to beat them....now, I feel like what's the point?  I kill the same bosses on regular that I can on heroic (yes I recall sinestra and alganonananonnann), and my loot is the same color of purple.  I like raiding, but trying to flex your e-peen cause you beat a "heroic" encounter in wow is like saying your glass of whiskey will get you drunker than my glass of tequila.  In the end, we're both smashed, and in the morning, we both find ourselves praying to the porcelin throne.

As to the op's question, I don't shy away from saying I play wow, and have played for the last 7yrs.  I have raided, I pvp'd back when honor gained was a weekly progress bar, not a number, I have leveled and deleted more toons than I care to admit, and I have had some really fun times in the game.  I'm bored.  The new expansion details that I have seen don't really interest me.  The world(s) are....too familiar.  I feel like I have named every tree in elwynn, counted every rock spire in blades edge, and timed the lightning strikes in storm peaks and icecrown.  I'm just bored with it.  I can hope that Tor will do it for me, I really enjoyed beta, I have enjoyed all that I read on the game, screenshots, vids, etc.  Yes it's a themepark, and as thus, it's very wow-like in it's mechanics, but there are no bloody elves, over zealous orcs, or puntable gnomes and goblins.  As you can tell, I'm also tired of the fantasy setting.
