Even during the BETA the GW2 website was about discarding traditional way of accessing info....instead GW2 web designers invented a new way to find info and access the site....its called FAIL

Its NOT a sensitive topic and you should not be walking on egg shells or worry about accusatons.

BRATS are BRATS and yes too many children both under the age of 18 and above 18 play MMOs.

That is why I only join 21 and over guilds. End of story.

When you all gonna learn:

When a game goes F2P its not because the game is a failure, it is due to the following reasons:

1) The monthly subscription model is dead.

It is dead for 2 reasons - MMOs make more money with F2P than subscriptions and players are drawm to F2P more than subscriptions because they "think" its free.

2) Ask any Age of Conan or Lord of the Rings Online player (who has leveled to cap, raided, and quested to cap) how much they have spent on each game as a subscription versus as F2P and you will be shocked to see that F2P at the very least caused these players to exceed a yearly subscription amount.

3) F2P increased player pop in both AoC and LOTRO, albiet AoCs pop is going down for a different reason - poor expansions and a poor PvP game design that leaves slow poke players in the dust or players that PvE'd to cap without PvPing tokens (sound familiar SWTOR?).

F2P will help SWTOR just as it did AoC, but unless SWTOR makes some design overhauls it will eventually suffer. I cannot tell you how many players did not want to pvP in AoC and SWTOR until they hit level 50, and then found they were HOSED.

Yes, we all know WoW is declining in Population, but its numbers are still very successful and the game has already paid for itself and makes huge profits for Blizzard. ATM it does not make sense for WoW to go F2P.

In conclusion, the sooner players realize that F2P is not an admission of failure but the new standard, the sooner these players will understand the MMO world today...and its a bleak one. For with F2P your initial elation of "hey this games free"! No asking mommy and daddy for a credit card; will soon become dispair when you see that you cannot truly enjoy the full game without forking over MONEY...much more money.

Keep an eye on Guild Wars 2, the only truly "free" MMO (not excluding purchase price), which contrary to Guild Wars 1, will have microtransactions.....

When you spend $3 on Steam to buy "Orcs Must Die" and it provides more enjoyment than todays MMOs that cost alot more....well.....that says alot.

Is Battlestar Galactica any good?

Use to set up mission specific tanks.

Also, gm's not intervening to protect you from pirates/scammers does not mean that the game caters to those groups, it just means that you're on your own and don't be a fool.

I used that ship was almost destroyed.

As with AoC (Age of Conan) and a few others, if you didnt play from the get go or somehow survived the past years, you will die to teh point of realizing new players are fodder for the EVE die hards who paid 2 years of subs to get enough money to play for free, i.e. buy game time with PLEX. Their goal is to make new players quit and farm those dumb enough to start playing.

I have subbed to this game 3 times since 2010, and never lasted more than a week before rage quiting and cancelling my 1 month subscription and wasting $15.

Here is my story....

I have been playing MMOs since 1999 and PcGames since 1992, and most recently I have been enjoying Freelancer on the Discovery 24/7 RP server/MOD with 200+ player plus multiplayer in a 24/7 persistant world.

Because of this, I got into the mood for space games even more and decided to give EVE Online yet another try.

I resubbed and noticed I had 3 million ISK which is not much in this gaem of Billionaires, but fitted my Catalyst Destoryer and attempted 3 different missions all with the same result...FAILURE.

No matter how I outfitted the Catalyst and later the recommended Frigate for these missions, the enemy in this LEVEL 1 missions did so much damage to me and I so little damage to them I had to run away. Lost my Catalyst and all its fittings including several weapons. I do not recall having this much difficulty the previous 2 times. This ship had all its weapon slots filled, etc etc and could do no damage!

Even after I switched to a recommended Frigate the same thing happened. I spoke to member of my corp and they could not make ends of it either.

Thus, after  spendng 2 of my 3 million ISK it was time to give up, as 1 million os not enough and there was no way og making money at this point doing missions.

The nature of EVE is that even when you know how to use the EVE UI, if you leave for an extended time you will have to relearn it and thats a fact. Its like it has a life and mind of its own. What seemingly works one moment a certain way, doesnt in teh next. What seems logical at one moment, is illogical the next. IMHO any interface that is not intuitive and instead seemingly only efficient for Icelanders needs work.

Dont get me wrong, I want to love EVE Online and it seems its what every space junkie is looking for..their dream game. But if that was true we all would be playing it instead of games such as Freelancer, SINS, X3, etc etc.

For it is not a space junkies dream, it is a nightmare for most who try it and a dream for the minoruty who do.

The frustration is so paramount in this game that it ruins your mindset for the whole weekend and makes you wonder with punishment such as EVE, who needs electroshock therapy.

I have been playing PC Games since 1992 and MMOs since 1999....

I FINALLY saw the light and cancelled both my Secret World and Guild Wars 2 purchases, as my friends and I are sick of the way MMOs are designed and play out as well as subscription based models.

Here is what we have been playing and enjoying more than any MMO ever!

Free Lancer Discovery RP 24/7 (persistant world):

One of the many MOD/Servers for Freelancer, which "Chris Roberts" designed and Microsoft ruined, but was saved by the modding community and is considered the best space game ever by many, kind of plays like "EVE Light":

Video -

Servers-MODs -

Discovery RP site -

You can buy the game in physical form only, i got mine from Amazon.

Here are what I feel are the 5 best MMOs and why:

1) The Secret World

Based on my experiences in the released version, open BETA and closed BETA:

Its different, and not a WoW clone. A "thinking persons" MMO with alot of puzzles, mysteries and immersion.

No levels!

No cartoony graphics like WoW, instead the world is a serious place, and its the current modern world.

An original story line that is not about Elves, Orcs, and or a bunch of aliens in space.

It can be downright creepy at times and even scare you.

Unfortunately, the game uses tokens just like WoW clones that is the only thing I do not like.

PvP is ok.....when its good its good and when its bad its bad. Personally the PvP in China is my favorite, but is also the least rewarding.

A monthly subscription means I will not be playing this game for more than 6 months regardless of how much I like it.

2) Guild Wars 2

Based on the BETA, I have to say I like this game because its beautiful, fun, and includes the best of old school MMORPGs as well as some of the newer ones

Yeah, its yet another "Fantasy" universe, but it is difficult enough to make leveling a gratifying experience, yet not a grind.

The game takes the dynamic events that made RIFT popular, but does it better. For example, just using the strategic cross roads as an example, its kind of cool to have this fort that sits on a major trade route with caravans coming and going that you can actually do quests for, but also how the crossroads and its fort can come under attack by the AI without warning. That fiight is tough but fun. And these types of dynamic events happen all over its game world. The argument can be made that because these dynamic events pop up in and around the same places can put a damper on it, but there is a reason for that, i.e. these locations are strategically important, thus there is a reason the AI wants it.

No more spamming for groups!!!! HOORAY! This is the big one for me, as I hate spamming and/or seeing others spam for groups. In this game you basically "show up" and everyone is now one big group.

No subscripton!!! Thats the biggest benefit and its not a F2P game either with the typical F2P issues. Only time will tell, what effect if any the cash store will have, but at least you do not have to unlock stuff and places with real money, tokens or gems like the F2P games do.

3) Age of Conan

There is no other MMORPG game universe as violent, bloody, sexy, and true to the original novels as Age of Conan.

As a fan of Robert E Howards Conan books, but NOT THE  STUPID MOVIES, I would have to say the immersiveness and bloody violence of combat that is so true to the books is what really makes this game. A great storyline and combat that requires alot of thinking and planning for your combos as well as skill.

Guild Sieges were the most fun I ever have had in 20 years of PC gaming! Even when I was low level I charged my mammoth and made it swing its tusks thru a mass of enemy players!

Unfortunately.......and its a BIG can forget about PvP since the game is hugely dependant on gear. Unless you played from release or grinded arena play to get your level (x) PvP gear you will be slaughtered. There are arena match fixing by players who sabotage an opposing team for their guild or pre-made, cheating was bad with combo cancelling and other combo exploits that rid your toon of the time consuming animation but hit with the total combo power/damage.

Also, the great Roleplaying/PvP servers were ruined by players who harassed the RP'rs. Which was a shame because I have never RP'd before this game, but I can tell you the RP was so good back in 2009/2010 that it made everything more fun especially guild vs guild RP.

Those days are over and replaced by the harrasers who would flood all chat channels with  kiddie potty talk and other mindless dribble.

The addition of F2P made all this more tolerable, and allowed those behind the PvP gear curve to buy PvP gear with tokens bought with real world money that took you to the beginning of each tier of gear. Thus, at least you were more competitive somewhat, but PvP's and especially those level 80s that waited too long to PvP are hosed.

4) EVE

This game takes place in the future, has beautiful graphics, a huge game world and a huge population. I believe it has the largest MMO population and has been around a long time thru many expansions. It is really a MMO you can wrap yourself around and really really get into.

It has one of the largest stores for books, maps, posters, models, real life clothing, you name it and has an incredible glossy magazine.

SO...whats wrong with it and why is it not number 1? has a subscription and it takes a long long time to progress....its open world PvP which is great but once you leave high security space you are on your own. Joining a guild known as corporations in the game is the way to go, but expect a huge time investment to receive a return. Its all about making money. Now for good or bad the games makers say anything goes...scandals, extortion, griefing, evan long as you do not CHEAT or HACK.

You can even use your hard earned money to buy PLEX which can also be used to buy game time! A guy I work with has not paid a single dollar for his monthly subscription for the past  years due to the huge amount of PLEX he has. However he will be the first to tell you how many hundreds of dollars he paid in monthly subscription fees for his first few years!

One nice thing is that your skills will continue to progress when you are logged off, as not all skills are instant and take time, more and more time to learn, but like I said take a skill that takes a week in real time to learn and regardless of whether you are online or not its timer will keep ticking towards completion.

Space combat can be epic with huge battles and huge ships. If you like trading, buying and selling commodities is a fun money maker. Mining can be fun or dull dependng on how you feel about using a mining ship on asteroids.

The inclusion of DUST 514, which will be the first ever FPS game that players on the planets will fight over the very same planets that EVE players have oney making structures on. Thus, for the first time ever, comnsole players will contract out to PC players to protect the space faring PC players structures and other money making machines on the planets surface.

However, DUST 514 is not released yet so we do not know how this first time ever venture will turn out, but it sure sounds exciting.

5) Warhammer Online

Do not laugh! Its the HUGE Warhammer Universe! And is only dwarfed by its futuristic themed cousin Warhammer 40K. Its been around for almost 30 years having been created as a table top miniatures game in the early 1980s, first as a Fantasy game and then as a futuristic one (WH 40K), novels and books galore and even a movie!

So...whats the issue? Well, for one its a monthly subscription game that is PvP centric and totally dependant on population. Sure, you could play PvE, but the devs did not do such a good job on PvP.  The game was innovative for its public quests and instanced battlefields in addition to Open World PvP. But all this was not enough to keep what basically becomes a shallow game at max level.

The "Free Trial" which limited you to Tier 1 caused this first tier and small map/area to be high population adn fun, but eventually caused Tier 2 and 3 to become low pop and hurt the game. Server merges were drastic. The only good news is that enough changes were made to the game to now cause all Tiers to have good population, but only during primetime.

The open world PvP which is exciting at first does get old after awhile as you ride from objective to objective or zone to zone for max Renown Points.

I include this game only because it was only 1 expansion and 1 RIGHT decision by the devs to being number 1. Unfortunately, the Devs could never quite make that 1 right decision to correct its shortcomings. No expansions and no F2P sealed its fate. Even worse, when Electronic Arts bought Mythic after Mythic had a brain fart, EA has pretty much abandoned the game. It would seem EA threw some money  out to the Devs  could have been used to fix this game, but instead created "Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes", which is a fun little F2P arena PvP game that requires you to spend "some" money to be competitive....IMHO the fact that Mythic and Bioware state that Wrath of Heroes is Warhammer Online PvP without all the "boring stuff" (their exact words) just shows you how they feel about the original game....YEAH dont fix it....just create a different game while bashing the former one.

Still...if you are a Warhammer fan, this game is always worth trying for about a month or 2.

KILSIN! You are 100% correct my friend!

The fact is most if not all MMORPG if they were not a MMO, but instead were a traditional multiplayer game would quite frankly stink.

On top of that they are designed with the priority of findign clever and unique ways to keep you playing.

We all went crazy over the original Everquest back in 1999, because we could play with an unfinite number of friends and meet new players and make more friends. Play with entire guilds.

Unfortunately, EQ got stale.....but....think about this....

How long do most players under the age of 21 play a MMORPG? Is it possible that with MMOs lasting 13+ years such as EQ, that as players mature, get married, get jobs they play less and/or stop. Then new under 21 year  olds take there place and even stale MMOs seem like the garden of eden to these new players. Thats how stale MMOs keep going....kust my theory.

Now having said that, if devs and designers would design for FUN FIRST and clever ways to take our money 2ND, MMOs would be better. Also, looka t all the lousy anime/asian style MMOs cluttering the MMO market....90% of MMOs on this very website (MMORPG) stink.

Having played MMOs since 1999 and PC games since 1992, I can honestly ask, "why do we pay a subscription" just to be annoyed by other players? LOL! It has gotten to the point where the thrill of massive multiplayer back in 1999 with EQ is now a nightmare of annoying players in chat, griefers, cheaters, haters, whiners, and WoW kiddies stinking up the place. Its almost like you dread seeing other players other than your own RL friends or guild mates. WELL, you dont need an MMO for that, just good old multiplayer.

Why do you think all the new MMOs have so many instances? LOL because most players dont want stranger screwign up there dungeon runs! Or griefing them in it.

NOW...lets talk about are right...its NOT FREE! LOL!

The average player will spend at least what the original cost of an MMO is $49, just by having to buy what they need to unlock areas, zones, items, stinks. YES, I realize they have to make money but man.....its more like Pay to Play and not Free to Play. In fact, its only Free to Play as a demo...seriously they are more like demos until you start forking over cash.

Oh well, I feel your pain....this is why I play "Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion", Skyrim, Space Marine, and other games like that. Good quality games with graphics better than any MMO and you invite your friends and guild mates and dont have to spend anymore money or deal with the jerk other players.

Sympathy to the OP...

I am a avid JRR Tolkein and Middle Earth fan... and YES the store takes away from what makes JRR Tolkeins works so immersive.

Its supposed to be about adventure and going anywhere thru out the world...instead you cant go here cant go there and must buy this or that to go here or there....

Now having said that, LOTRO needs to make money and its a known fact that F2P with transaction stores makes money and no one wants to pay a sub.

I just renewed my subscription. I can tell you it was a tough decision. I was tired of LFG and playing alone isn't exactly the reason I play MMORPG. Many quests are made so that you can't solo. When your lvl is high enough to solo, you probably won't receive any xp. Currently I have a lvl 50 and many of my missions are gray out. I have lost interested in completing those missions. The rewards of those missions are abysmal. (Those gears make me laugh.) I don't understand we have to "roll" for those FP weapons.
In short, if 1.3 doesn't improve my experience, I will quit and try Secret World or Guild Wars.
Bioware, are you listening?

I feel your pain brother, I bailed on SWTOR after 1.2.

SWTOR will be the fail that ended Electronic Arts reign of terror.

So are monthly much as I like Perfect World I refuse to pay a monthly sub.

Why cant they just take Skyrim and make it Massive Multiplayer?

Seems the first step when creating a MMORPG of any kind is ti hose it up with something stupid.

Let this be a lesson to all MMORPG devs and publishers who release the Same Old u know what in a different wrapper.

And a lesson to all the cheesy anime, oversized weapon, Asian MMORPG that try to release to the west....we dont want your same old same old cheesy games.

All I get is "Waiting in Que"......

1) Looking the same as everyone else is FAIL!

2) Looking different in PvE and obtaining and/or buying gear that looks different, and customizing your toon in PvE, but then being forced to look all the same in PvP is double FAIL!

3) Being forced into an all girl  looking Templar faction is triple FAIL and not accurate to the storyline or the games premise.

4) I can understand to a small degree the uniforms for team differentiation, [mod edit]

I thought this was a MMORPG, the RPG stands for roleplaying game....forcing everyone to be illuminati males and Templar girls all wearing the same faction uniforms is not roleplaying.

Just change the game to an MMO then.
