Unable to respond to or send PMs, as for some strange reason only on and only in its PM screen does the  site keep refreshing and making PMing unusable.

5) They Suck

4) They are a grind

3) Nothing new, same old same old

2) Most are anime/eastern/ cutsie tootsie styled clones of each other

1) Most are Kickstarter, Early Access, in Founders, Pre- Alpha vaporware that cost money just to watch it crawl along in pre-alpha.

Thanks for posting this doing this Derek.

And, by the way, I agree 100% with you regarding SC, and I am a Founder too.

I think Blizzard should scrap all its games and do them over in the Warhammer and Warhammer 40K universes.

Otherwise, I am not interested in anything they do.

1) WHY does a good RPG experience have to be in Single Player Games only?

Is it because other players ruin it with their WoW attitudes?

Is it because MMO makers can only make money with grinds and gimmicks?

Is it because, they are just action games?

it does not have to and nor should it be unless Devs have reasons beyond what I and others have stated, which is why most MMOs are suxor.

2) Star Wars Galaxies was great when it first came out, it was challenging, huge, fun, etc etc, during the first week I had a Empire Uniform I wore, and a couple of Storm Trooper Pets, I and others would enter Cantina's and such and Role Play, i.e. going into a Cantina with that uniform and pets and listening/watching the Rebel players reactions and interactions, to the things we did and said.... it was epic.

One day our guild formed a 2nd guild where we all dressed up as Sand People and made alts with Sand people type names, even invented our own language...the PvP was great, the RPG was great and other players LOVED it, even the enemy players!

Sadly, the Devs changed the game on the 2nd week and took our Imperial uniforms and pets away, making it 100 times harder to obtain.

Then they took away the ability to wear Sand People clothing we took off their corpses.

Then they just changed the whole game and every one left.

3) LOTRO was GREAT...until I got to Moria...IMHO Moria was suxor, got boring so fast, and could not wait to get out of it and progress the story. I am still in their....zzzzzz

Derek Smart is Donald Trump..he is not afraid to say what others are afraid to say..the obvious, and the truth.

As the old Dwarf used to say in Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning:

"I've been around a lot longer than you had better listen to me"

The whole WoW world is destroyed for real this time by some dude we never heard of, and the game starts over and does it the proper way.

"World of Warcraft: The New Age":

1) No farming

2) No Grinding

3) No tokens

4) A story that adheres to lore instead of morphing the lore just to make everyone happy with their Undead, Elf, Paladin, Warlock, Cleric, skate boarder.

5) No more cutsie tootsie crap

6) No Panda's or other eastern cutsie tootsie pretty boy themes.

7) Immersion

8) No repeatable dungeons...just make them epic, fun, thrilling and immersive so that you cannot wait to explore the NEXT one and not the SAME one.

9) Better art design, no seasonal equipment, no eSports

10) A true immersive MMORPG with a deep immersive story and no hand holding.

But most of all..a game not made for 11 year old "Wow kiddies" who say "My weapons rulez yours".

I play SWTOR I am a Sith Lord are you happy?

Actually yes, in fact I really enjoyed my time in SWTOR playing a Sith when it first came out.

Unfortunately, despite becoming a Sith Lord as well....heck we are all Sith Lords of some sort...well uh there is the problem.

Johnny: "Mommy, Sally is a Sith Lord and I am not, I wanna be a Sith Lord too!"

Mom: "Did you do this that and the other"?

Johnny: "Nooo"

Mom: 'Well then how do you excpect to be a Sith Lord?"

Johnny: 'Cuz everybody else is"!

RPG = Role Playing Game

MMO = Massive Multiplayer Online

What is a Role Playing Game? It is a game where you assume the role of a character which has both features and limitations based on class/race etc etc, but most especially "LORE".

The story is bound by the games Lore as are the characters you choose to play.

As are appearences of armor, weapons, buildings, lands, dungeons, etc etc.

Your character advances based on experience earned thru actions such as fighting, exploring, crafting etc etc.

However, Role Playing does NOT include going to the same dungeon over and over with hopes to get an entire set of equipment or a specific item, what it does MEAN is that you go to a dungeon and experience its mystery, flavor, thrill, chills, fun, excitement, and when you finish it you say to yourself, "Wow that was epic"! And yet are relieved to have gotten out alive.

It is NOT, going back over and over and over again KNOWING what is behind every turn and  doorway, and it is NOT having some player tell everyone what to do based on their one hundred times exploring it over and over.

In other words its NOT supposed to be GRINDING AND FARMING.

INSTEAD, you cant wait to get to that next point of interest, whether it be a dungeon of some sort, fort, cave, location, cannot wait to get to that next really cool place. You got that awesome sword in the last dungeon, gee I wonder what I will get in the next one. The KEY word is "Wonder".

Can you imagine if Tolkien wrote Lord of the Rings or Robert E Howard or George Lucas just as examples, wrote their stories the way MMOs have and are written and designed?

Frodo: "Gee Sam, finding my sword "Sting" in that cave was great, lets go back and see what else we can find".

Sam: "But Mr Frodo, we cleaned it all out"!

Frodo: 'Don't worry Sam, didnt you know the Elves come by that cave every day just to drop off more loot? They are rich!"

Or worse:

Isildur: "I got your ring! I got your ring!"

Sauron: "Not fair"!

Eru: "I agree....Do over!"

Sauron: "Yes!"

Isildur: "Doh!"

But in all seriousness, what we want is a feeling of accomplishment without the farming and without the grind.

The priority of the dungeon is to provide a challenging yet FUN environment, where you are required to think and strategize your next moves, and NOT just run thru the boring parts because you were here a hundred times before and just want your stuff...NO! It is the combination of a one time epic event that combines lore, immersion, story, thrills, chills, fun, excitement, reward and a sense of accomplishment.

So for example, in the story you hear about this old wizards tower and your friends ask around and eventually find clues, say for example an old map...then in the candle light and atmosphere of a tavern or your hideout, you examine the map and PLAN.

That was a simple example, yet you get the point.

In addition, this was just one example..there are tons of others.

In a nutshell, every single "MMO" lacks the essential RPG elements that started the whole Dungeon and Dragons popularity of RPGs and games.

If Devs and publishers would just abandon the EQ and WoW clone mentality and design MMORPGs instead of MMOs, with a purpose beyond gear gating, seasons, that are all just designed to slow you down and eat up your subscription time or force you to buy stuff from their real money or token store, etc.

Come on! All of you are SMART! Dont you realize when a game like WoW is just slowing your progress down to eat up your subscription time, and/or a game like Neverwinter stumps you until you spend real money on something to get you over the hump?

Please...some Dev or publisher, please make a great quality MMORPG..not an MMO, but a MMORPG, that is not P2W, a grind, or a farm fest, that is deep and immersive, and is fun.

Designed to be fun and make you money the old fashion way, and not the new way of gimmicks, tricks and scams or worse..

blah blah blah...go to the Pathfinder Online website, watch the videos on uTube, read what the CEO has to say.

DONE....The  Pathfinder Online project represents the best example of why you should avoid backing, founding, help kick start or otherwise spend your money on anything but a finished game.

Smells "Anime"...runs like hell!

Give us your money!

We could not get any money via normal means, i.e. Investors, Publishers, so we have to come to you the players!

Please give Pathfinder Online and all the other crowd sourcing, backers programs, forge sourcing, crowd sourcing, Founders, and Early Access programs your money!

And remember, regardless of how good or bad the game looks at any point it is Pre-Alpha, Early Alpha, Alpha, Early BETA, Closed BETA, Open BETA... Thus, do not say anything bad about the games because they are under development, under a constant state of flux, and may not even resemble the game you first paid money into.

So just BE QUIET, we got YOUR MONEY, we dont have to answer to a publishing company who at the first sign of BS can drop us...oh no, you are stuck with us, our game, and woe to anyone who gives a negative opinion, because we hired "" to flood the forums with people to shut down any negativity and boost up any positive opinions.

Oh and by the way, its ALL YOUR FAULT!

We need more players to blindly throw us money, so we can continue to make money in this new day and age of "we dont need no stinkin publisher" we have a whole bunch of players who think funding pc games blindly is the norm and woe to anyone who pays money and then doesnt like the way development is going.

And Pathfinder Online and their CEO represents one of the best examples of this, because its your fault we dont have enough money and interest in the game, go tell your friends and if they wont give their money to this game willingly, make them!

Sorry Chris, as a long time fan of you and your games, I am not buying your explainations.

You have our money, and as a backer I for one am not happy with the results, scope creep, and despite $85 million, the continued focus on selling ships instead of working on the game.

All of the above is fluff and waste.

There once was a time not so long ago, when we eagerly read news of the pc games that were being announced and developed, and where we suffered day after day with building excitement to release day... and upon which we took days off from work and school to be at our local gamestop, best buy, etc to buy our physical copies of these gems. Some of us pre-ordered and would call our local EB or GS stores asking "is it in yet"....and the rush of hearing "UPS just dropped it off, come on over and get it".

The forums would be ablaze with "I got it!" or "Best Buy has it but Walmart doesnt"....or "my local GS store has no clue" or "the kid at my local GS had it waiting for me when I came in whew hoo".

The games were either good or bad in their finished state and woe to any game that was released unfinished or buggy. Albiet, most of the time the game would get any release day bugs worked out quickly.

We had faith in companies and games like Blizzard, SOE, Fun Com, Relic,Everquest, World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, Unreal Tournament, Command and Conquer, Dungeon Siege, just to name a few etc etc etc

These games and Devs had to win the trust and faith of big money suits, who sometimes unfairly and stupidly canned or changed game development goals...but....the bottom line was "impress and get funds...produce and get funds...deliver and get funds"....if the game stinks it stinks and you sink with it.

It was insane fun.....

Now days....this is how it works:

1) We hear an announcement, and wait for news of whether it be a Kick Starter, Early Access, or Founders program.

2) Next we decide if the asking price for entry into these programs is a go or many cases we end up paying 2x or 4x the amount we would pay for a finished game to play, but instead now "pay first and pray"....we hope it wont be cancelled and we lose our funds we paid to back it, we hope early access will come soon....all to play an unfinished and buggy Alpha version of a game.

3) In many cases the game quickly emerges as not the same game we backed...a game that we would not have backed if the current state of  of its design was what was first advertised...we are now stuck....most dont offer refunds at this point.

4) Happily, many games do not require a price to play in their early alphas or while the game is being developed, games like the Total War franchise can be pretty much trusted to deliver what you paid for in pre-order....others too such as Blizzard (WoD concerns noted).

5) Unfortunately, 75% of the games these days require us to pay for the priviledge "to wait", "to test", "to back", "to fund", to take on the funding of a projects risk, whereas in the old days cash fat publishers would fund them, and not  working stiffs and students.

6) The pc games market is flooded with eastern art styled copy cat games that have the same front page art work and poses over and over and over again, some even have names that are close to the game they are ripping off from. Most stink, most are grinds, most will hack you, most are a waste of time.

7) The pc games market is also flooded with retro style games, i.e. 1990 era graphics and gameplay....some like it, some hate it, I was there when they first came out in the late 80s and early 90s...been there done that, maybe I should go play pong.

8) The pc game market is also flooded with early access, founders, and backers programs for games that will never see the light of day, will stink, will not resemble what you originally were pitched in exchange for your backing, and even worse...will REMAIN UNFINISHED for years and years to come. Are you tired of hearing "We dont have the resources, so we are going to make a shooter instead of a MMORPG, and will have 32 players instead of a massive multiplayer experience...but dont worry we will eventually add that down the road".....

9) The bigger the names, the bigger the risk: who would have thought that buying into an early access program for a Warhammer 40K game woudl be a risk? Can you say Eternal Crusade in (8)? The devs make good arguments and I even accept them, gets old as this is NOT what I BACKED and I would NOT have backed it, if it was! its called BAIT AND SWITCH.

10) Then there is Star Citizen from Chris exchange for high priced ships some in the hundreds like the Constellation cannot be flown and there is no estimate as to when they can be flown. Sure, we got a ton of eye candy for a modern Wing Commander arena and can walk around....BUT...these folks broke records in the amounts of money they raked in and the results so far do not match or come close to such investment, they even have the nerve to claim the tired old excuse of "we dont have the resources".....WHAT!?! You have tons of unspent money! Freakin buy those resources!

11) Shroud of the Avatar...yeah, they have done much work and progress, but it sure is not what I expected from Richard Garriot the master of the MMORPG and creator of Ultima Online.....SOA is BORING and the same old same old and even what they promise is the same old same old...BUT at least Richard is HONEST.

12) Poor Mark Jacobs.....the most honest of them all, and because he is honest, he gets the least amount of backer money, I guess it pays to not be honest....frankly, his last project Warhammer Online was tons better than what 99% of these larger than life devs are working on, too bad Electronic Arts "The great destroyer" KILLED and STARVED that game. Mark Jacobs should have used a founder/backer/kick start program to buy that game from EA and fix it and make it what he dreamed of.

13) The blooming and growing massive phone and tablet mobile market with their STINKY games...lets face it, for all the tech put into mobile devices such as iPad just as an example, all these games have sub par graphics, game play, you name it. Fortunately, they only cost a couple of bucks or free..however, they are still suxor...and the good ones are massive pay2win cash grabs, too bad these games are the future, how did we regress to such junk?

So there you have it....I feel bad for the young gaming generation who are pitched this current market and consider it the norm.

It is not the norm, there was a time where we consumers just bought a we have to pay for the priviledge to "Fund, Finance, Test, and take the Risk", whereas in the old days"rich fat cat publishers" did all this.

Those days are over as most of those fat cats got smart and realized its a losing proposition, and only we suckers now do it.

So what do i suggest?

Vote with your dollars SMARTLY and send a message of what YOU want, and NOT what OTHERS want.

I for one want a finished game that I pay for after its released and finished.

Until then no more of these BS backers/founders/early access programs for me.

In fact, I have started playing Star Wars Armada and X-Wing table top games as well as Warhammer and Warhammer 40K, Mantic Kings of War and Warmachine and Hordes....all table top games.

Also, I found 2 gems in the iPad game market, that being "Warhammer 40K: Space Wolf" and "Warhammer 40K:Death Watch Tyrannid invasion".

Of the two Death Watch is better, only because it is not a pay2win cash grab, whereas I have found Space Wolf to be Pay2Win IMHO.

Space Wolf has better graphics though.

Tough call.

Although, I like Mark Jacobs and what I have seen about Camelot Unchained, as well as both his older games WAR: AoR and the original DAOC...

I won't be giving his project any money, due to how Chris Roberts and RSI aka the Star Citizen game and my beloved WH40K: Eternal Crusade handled the money they received from us backers, and the current state as well as the trend of results, i.e. total 360' on what the game was when we backed it and what they later decided it would be (a shooter and not a MMORPG in the case of Eternal Crusade), and with Star Citizen a disproportionate amount of results when comparing the huge amounts of money they received and what has actually been accomplished.

Dont even get me started about SoA or most of the other kick starter/founders/early access games I have put money into.

I realize it is collective punishment, but I had to draw the line.

My apologies to Mark Jacobs, as its not his fault, but these other Devs and publishers who are giving early access, founders, and backers programs a bad reputation.

1) The Pathfinder Online website is horrible.

2) The Early Access/Founders/Backers whatever its called pricing is horrible.

3) The early version of the game is horrible.

4) The CEO's whining and blame on everyone else is horrible.

How is that for a review?

WOW! I have watched all these twitch shows, and I enjoy them BUT....MAN...

Today, the 2 devs were playing the game while Nathan was reading and answering  player questions, and Katie kept making all kinds of loud and impulsive game play exclamations that not only drowned Nathan out a few times, but interrupted him many times where he had to repeat what he said or just stumbled. In fact, he was having trouble with the chat as it was, and Katie's background noise was making it worse.

In all due respect, I found that RUDE and totally INSENSITIVE to not only Nathan, but moreover their customers who were trying to listen to Nathan.

Oh well, we shall see

I have for one have let every games Dev and/or Publisher that has a Backers/Founders/Early Access , I am interested in, that despite my desire for their products, I refuse to enter any more programs such as these, because of what BS Star Citizen and RSI are pulling.

If enough of us do that, maybe RSI will cut to the chase and just declare FAILURE so their suits can retire to the mansions and sports cars they bought with our money.

We are suckers...

Although, some of you have been very good in regards to your Backers/Founders/Early Access Programs....

There are some games...and WE ALL KNOW WHICH ONES...that are NOT doing a good job.

The amount of money that poured in, was the LARGE, but the results have been small.

Thus, I say to you...all of you game developers and publishers, I for one will no longer partake in these programs, for the many bad apples have caused myself and others to not engage in anymore such programs...unfortunately, this includes those good game Dev's and Publishers out there.

Yes, its collective punishment, but what do you expect?

As a result, since these bad apples that took all our money and delivered either nothing, or delivered  progress that so far does not reflect the huge sums of money they received from us.....well, then all you great Devs and Publishers need to yell at them and say:

"Thanks for ruining the reputation of these early access, backers, and founders programs".
