+1

Is it really a Super Secret anymore? Why not just call it the next SWTOR expansion.

This is odd to me.. First, people freak out because they didn't do enough research to know how many players there would be, and the problems insured. Now, people are pissed cause they implemented fixes and want to make sure the current issues are solved before introducing potentially more issues... I guess SE Just can't win with some folks...

Apples and oranges dude.

One group pre-purchased the game and was upset that they could not access what they paid for.

The other group is people who did not preorder, but are now interested in playing the game. But since they are not able to buy now interest in the game dwindling.

So no SE can't win when they can't even make one of these groups happy. But that is not the customer's fault. That fault lies squarely on SE's shoulders.

Im sorry, I don't see how SE could have predicted accurately how many people were going to be interested.

We all have the benefit of hindsight now..however if one month ago you were asked "How many people will play a remade game that once failed so miserably if made grown men cry?" would you honestly say "well they need at least 75 servers since at least 53 servers will be packed to the brim for early access"

I don't think so.  They might have known the game was good, they might have know how many people would have played if this was the original launch.  The fact that the old game failed and pissed a lot of fans off, that changed everything.  Perhaps they thought launch would have been weak but then grown as word spread...that's what I would have guessed would happen.

53 server packed...I don't think anyone saw that coming a week before EA.

Im just worried about how many people out there that don't have the game want to buy it.  We could guess all day but I don't think anyone knows for sure.  So how many servers should the bring up in order to resume sales?  Again not going to be easy to predict unless they do pre-orders on a live game and then allow people who buy them to play a week or two later when they can adjust capacity....and I don't think people would like that.

Businesses make sales predictions ALL OF THE TIME. I fail to see why SE would not do the same. Besides they should have been faster on their feet to address the problems. Here we are, two weeks since launch and three weeks since EA, and still sales are suspended. If that is not a business failure I don't know what is.

I'm still trying to grasp why so many people on this website want to continue to excuse the inexcusable from game devs. Only in a gaming world is it ok to sell a broken, unfinished product while claiming it is not. Only in the gaming world is it ok to not project sales. Only in the gaming world is it ok fail to provide service already paid for in advance. The excuse of, "well that's just the way it is", is growing very old and tiresome. I've become jaded and will not accept this anymore. SE will not be getting my money and the upcoming AAA launches better do much better if they want anything from me.

If only there were some kind of extra security measure people could take. They could even make it "token" sized so you could carry it around with you. Heck, they might even be able to integrate it into a mobile "app". Person who figures this stuff out is gonna be rich I tell ya!

This whole thread is talking more about customer service issues than a security issues. Either way their handling of just about everything during this launch has been laughable at best.

it is what it is not goign to stop me from playing a good game

It will stop someone like me from buying it though.

Reading this thread has convinced me to stay far away from FFARR. I was on the fence, thinking I would give them another week or so to figure it all out. Now I'm completely off of the fence. FFARR might be a decent game, but customer service counts in my book.

They still have not been able to open sales, and seeing how fast they are to ban without any way for the banned person to even find out why they were banned, I'm staying FARR FARR away from this one.

This whole launch failure and digital sales delay has me reconsidering my interest in this game. One of my favorite things about launch is that most people are pretty much at the same level, same gear, and same skill. If I still can't get into the game this week I will likely just wait on the next launch.

I don't care if that makes me a mmo "locust" or not. If I wanted to play a game where everyone is already at max level with me starting a the beginning, I would pick a game that has already been out for a while and fixed most of their problems.

Same here.

LOL, I'm still waiting to be able to buy it. Gamers these days are a funny bunch. They fly through the game so fast while playing marathon 12+ hour sessions only to complain about the amount of content or the size of the world. Get a life,... please.

Look at Bioshock, people bought that game for 60+ dollars and it only has a main campaign of about 8 hours.

I'm going to buy it once the digital sales resume. I'm assuming they will not resume sales until the server issues have been mostly addressed.

I'm hearing too many good things about this game not to buy it. But I'm glad I didn't pre-order. Instead of spending the Weekend trying to log on, I spent the weekend watching football, walking my dogs, and playing a little WarThunder.

The OP lost me once he referenced GW2 as something to imitate.

I don't know. I end up returning every 6 months or so to leave and unsub within a couple of weeks. Unfortunately there is just nothing else out there worth playing either. I'm really starting to wonder if anyone will ever make a quality MMO like WoW was that I want to play for longer than a couple of months. I had some hope for FF:ARR but since being burned before I chose not to pre-order, apparently that was a really good decision. MY hope is fading for Wildstar, EQNext, and ESO as I learn more about each one. Sigh, maybe MMO's are not for me anymore.

At least I still have WarThunder.

I resisted preordering. Now I'm starting to consider driving to the store to buy a copy, except I'm still reading threads like this. Oh well, I guess I'll wait until next week to see how things are going.
Stuff like this is why I refuse to preorder anymore. I was planning on buying this after the launch craziness is over but that will depend on them fixing the main problems people are currently having.

I gave this game about two hours than uninstalled.

I don't know if it because I've become jaded, or just older. But if a game can't make me want to see what is next during the first couple of hours I move on. Nothing abut the intro or tutorial to Firefall drew me in, if anything it encouraged me to log out and uninstall. This game was just the latest of a long line of MMO's that fail to draw me in.

Back to WoW,... sigh.

The first GW2 clone... barf.

@ OP:

I think it has something to do with all of the recent hype trains crashing and burning after getting everyone whipped up into a feeding frenzy. The industry really has no one to blame but themselves and their huge marketing budgets. I read somewhere that SWTOR's Marketing budget ran as high as it's development budget - that is crazy.

Regarding EQN, the similarities to GW2 have me worried. GW2 was a game I gave up on within a month despite not having to sub, just can't get myself to get into that game. If EQN ends up having no progression and no trinity I feel that it will end up crashing and burning as well.

Wow going F2P would break the internet. MMO's like SWTOR and Rift would lose 90% of their F2P populations instantly.

There is something wonky with those numbers.  So out of 3 million boxes sold 83 percent of the people still play?  Out of the 10 or so people I know that bought the game zero are still playing.

So I find that statistic hard to believe.

I agree, I just realized the other day that GW2 was still on the hard drive and had not been activated in months, so I uninstalled it.
