Well if everyone only rolled on one faction, how would PvP work if there's no-one to fight?

Good thing there are people who enjoy being facerolled I guess, not everyone goes to the bigger side.

 

I really don't know what the answer would be to prevent people from re-rolling to join the zerg. Maybe diminished rewards, or a stat boost that would make the smaller side better 1 on 1, but I'm sure those would end up just being exploited somehow.

 

The only real answer to the imbalance is instanced pvp, with is more fair just less exciting.

My experience with 3 way world PVP is that imbalance happens in them too.

 

People want to be on the side of the winners, and in MMOs the wining side is the side with the numbers. So the smaller factions bleed fighters to the larger faction and soon the large faction has world pvp on farm status.

MMOs are dead because of the publishers and developers not having the balls to take risk and lacking any sort of real imagination.

 

It amazes me that my two favorite mmos, WoW and SWG, were made over ten years ago and NO ONE has been able to match them since. No one has been able to create SWG's awesome crafting and profession system. No one has been able to make an open world to rival Azeroth. Everything is generic, plastic and instanced now.

 

I also fear that the golden age of mmos is long gone, something that will never return. But I still have a little hope, there are indi developers with great ideas, but so far all they bring to the table is unfinished buggy games that were only good on paper. One of these days one of these indi devs will make the right game for the right market at the right time with the right financing, until then we are doomed to wallow in failed AAA crapfests and the wishful dreams of kickstarter.

I feel for the people who spent years of their lives making Wildstar only to see it become irrelevant a few short months after launch.

 

Wildstar should be the last of the WoW clones, at least AAA ones. People have already played this game, many for years, we all want something drastically new. You can't beat WoW by mimicking it. At this point WoW has 10 years of added content that they offer for the same monthly fee, and the gap will continue to get worse for new theme park mmo's as WoW continues to add more diverse game mechanics and mini games with each expansion.

 

If you want a new mmo to succeed, you need to bring something entirely new to the table, and since I doubt any AAA Devs or producers want to take a risk with their $100 million dollar projects, we will need a relative unknown indie company to make it happen. At this point my only hope for the MMO industry is that a small dev studio comes up with a million dollar idea and is not afraid to take a chance, gets the financial backing they need, and delivers a relatively smooth and bug free experience, so basically I have no hope for the future of this gaming genre.

 

It is depressing to know that the golden age of MMO's is long gone, and there is nothing on the horizon that can bring it back, except maybe WoW...

And on the flip side, people who are willing to pay end up needing to pay for all of the freeloaders, so cash shop items are over-priced. I will not touch a F2P sandbox, ever.

 

Also, Sandbox play style works best when players have to provide mounts, equipment, potions or really anything that is used in game to help create a robust economy. A cash shop in a sandbox is ridiculous. You should have to pay a sub, then have access to EVERYTHING that is available in-game. Not be nickeled and dimed for in-game items on top of having a subscription. I'm not even going to get into the issue of having a PVP based game with P2W items...

What happened to PKing? I got old.

 

I still play on PVP servers in games like WOW where there is no real loss if you die, but I find myself sticking to safe cities if I'm not in the mood to defend myself. I have zero interest in games were you can be looted or you lose exp. I don't have the patience anymore and will pass on any game that has that play-style.

For once it would be fun to play a Star Wars RPG that is set after the original trilogy instead 1k-5k years before. More open world style game where I could become a mercenary/bounty hunter instead of Jedi/Sith too. I'd love to see Skyrim or Mass Effect of Star Wars, why not a combination of them both + a whole lot of new added into the mix.

 

Sure, KOTOR 3 would be nice too, I loved both 1 & 2, even SWTOR in it's boring WoW shape is fun, because Star Wars, but I would not mind something new. Oh yeah, we're going to get some B-grade movie license games from Disney as soon as the new movies start pouring in... Bleargh...

A Skyrim Starwars is the game I want.

I doubt this one can be saved, if saved means it becomes a popular mmo.

 

On a side note, I think devs are finally going to make the leap and stop putting out wow clones with slight twists. The popularity of minecraft is the newest thing, which I think will help to steer mmos in the right direction. Wildstar is a frosted, sugary theme park in a time where people are wanting more depth from thier games in general. The mmo community tastes are changing and we tire of the quest hub theme park with tacked on crafting and pvp. I think the market is ready for something more hearty and less superficial,... I think.

 

Who will bring it? I have no idea, but whoever does will have the most wow-like mmo in terms of success since, well, wow.

I have always felt that SWTOR actually has a pretty good community when compared to other mmos. Sure there are some assholes but overall it is good. I can still watch all of the cut scenes in a FP and get little to no complaints from other pug members.

I recently went back to SWTOR, and to be honest I really don't notice the cash shop. When I play I sub for a month or two so the cash shop based restrictions do not affect me. I use the free cash shop credits I get with my sub to buy bag space and other convenience items, I don't play dress up with my credits.

 

Like other posters here I am confused why people are upset with the cash shop. No one is forcing you to buy anything. If you like the game, support it, if not move on. F2P and the cash shop saved SWTOR.

My only complaint about the business model is there is no easy way to clear out your credit card info. I contacted support only to find out you have to log-in to the main NCsoft website and put in fake credit card info - no way to just delete it. That makes me nervous.

 

I didn't leave Wildstar because of the way they try to make their money. I left because the PVP was/is lame. I'm not a dungeon grinder so obviously I was never the target market to begin with.

Unfortunately this is why I have moved on from Wildstar. I really liked that combat but it is just too much for a casual to enjoy. The instances are extremely difficult and the pvp is extremely limited and unbalanced.

 

It should be interesting to see if a game like Wildstar can keep enough hardcore players to stay afloat. My guess is that hardcore players will not like playing without casuals around to impress. Wildstar has a lot going for it, but the devs misguided desire to cater to young, hardcore players will end up being its downfall. Older, casual players like myself have the money to spend, just not the time or desire to fail over and over before having any success.

Pretty much. Sad. If they could have just taken it more seriously, game felt so amateur. Simple rookie mistakes.

Definitely a fun game with good replayability, but to suggest it's because of the options is silly. If anything, it's the on-rails gameplay and lack of choice (therefore lack of chance to screw anything up) that made it popular. 

You are complaining about WoW being on rails, but you also claim to be playing ESO, the most on rails game I have ever played.

For a theme park WoW has by far the most options for leveling. You don't even have to go to crossroads, ever.

wow ,so i take you like wow.good for you,does not mean everyone else loves wow does it.in any mmorpg you do not have to go to anyplace if you do NOT want to do you.i never ever had to delete quests in wow.so i have no idea where that is from,and as far as the end game ,it pretty much sucked.least when i played,basically very few people got drops of any value.esp if you were not in the guild running the raid.the crafting was not much different than any other crafting.frankly i liked the eq death better than the wow one and the raids in eq were better as well.what made wow so popular was it was EASY.no one likes having to go get corpse.quests were simple and boring.less face it wow is popular cause it was dumbed DOWN.

Most of this website doesn't seem to like wow, I am perfectly aware of that.

 

I loved wow, I won't deny that. But now it just feels like the same-old-same-old, even with all of the new additions. I have moved on, but...

 

My point is that for a themepark, hell, mmo in general, there are unlimited paths you can take to progress through the game. In games like Rift, SWTOR, etc, if you are a certain level on a certain side, there is one, MAYBE TWO zones for you, a couple of instances, and a handful of instanced pvp zones. But in the "real mmo world" you are limited to one level-whatever play area. In wow, you can take that Dwarf, skip the entire beginning zone, and travel to whatever beginning zone you can make it to without dying, Name another "themepark" mmo that has done that since Wow.

Even my beloved Wildstar cannot boast that.

 

For a themepark, Wow has become quite the sandbox, you can play so many different ways, way more than most other mmo's I have experienced.

I enjoyed my time in WoW, but that is over. I just have no interest in this next expansion. Right now I am playing Wildstar and will likely be playing it for the next 6 months or so, after that I will just take a break from MMOs until something drastically new comes to the market. I'm tired of the theme park treadmills, Wildstar is good because of the combat, but I'm sure that after the newness wears off I will find myself once again bored of MMOs.

 

Please for the love of God, can someone please make a decent sandbox? I just want to farm moisture again. I don't need to be "the" hero in another themepark.

This was my biggest frustration with ESO. Once I got to my mid-20's in level I realized I would have to grind quests if I wanted to keep up in PVP. Dumb.

Rift, WoW, SWTOR, Wildstar, etc. made it reasonably easy to level through PVP. ESO, a game that made a huge deal about their 3 way PVP decided for whatever reason to force PVPers to PVE through 60 levels. Makes no sense to me.

Graphics or art style are far down on my list of things I worry about in games. Much more important to me is if the game is fun, has plenty of multiplayer content, easy to use UI, and enough customization to be somewhat unique. Wildstar excels in all of these areas in my opinion.

 

Also, I enjoy WS's lore and art style.

Maybe, I guess it just depends on which one of us can see into the future better. It seems odd to me that everyone just assumes that every MMO that will launch in the future will be a disappointment. There will be games that buck the trend. Wow did ten years ago, I think Wildstar will now, and I am sure there will be a couple more eventually.

Given the track record of MMOs over the last decade, it is not a surprise that a lot of people are now extremely skeptical, I was one of them until Wildstar.
