[Column] Star Wars: The Old Republic: SWTOR Anniversary Edition
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 12/26/12 7:28:31 PM
I recently returned to SWTOR, and surprisingly I have been having fun. I started from scratch on a new server and taking it a lot slower this time around.
I know its popular to bash the game, hell I have done my share as well, but honestly it's a bit over the top. SWTOR is not a perfect game by any means, but in my opinion it is funner than GW2, TSW and WoW. (And yes, I have played and own all of these games) |

[Award] General: 2012 Player's Choice Winner Announcement
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 12/24/12 1:18:44 PM
I have to admit that it brings me a smile that GW2 did not win. I'm not happy it lost because I think it is the most boring "mmo" I have ever played, its because of the insufferable fanboys of GW2. If this chases a few of them away, good riddence.
I'm going to go try Pirates101 now just to show my appreciation.

Even after all the horrible PR, EA says: "[Lifeday items] are limited time offers, so now is the time to jump In."
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/21/12 7:21:06 PM
Making limited time products is nothing new nor is EA the only coorporation doing it.
The answer seems simple to me - don't buy it if you don't want it. |

Originally posted by BrooksTech I agree, this whole year has been forgettable with regards to PC gaming, even games like XCOM which I liked really are quite shallow and boring, same with GW2. |

Xsyon was the only game I have ever requested a refund for, so I'll go with that.

Why no GW2 on that list? Is it not an MMO?

SWTOR to get rid of expertise in the near future !!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/08/12 1:00:46 PM
This would be a great move by EA/Bioware. Maybe, just maybe, SWTOR will have a chance.

PS2 full of hacking. SOE takes down leaderboards to cover it up!
General Discussion « PlanetSide 2 12/06/12 10:19:06 AM
Like another poster said already, this game is the perfect game for hackers. F2P? - Check. FPS? - Check. A monetary benefit for hacking as in you don't need to sub when your racking up the kills? - Check. A huge map where 100's if not 1000's play at the same time making it easier to hide in the crowd or move around to conceal hacks? - Check. And now - No leaderboard to find people with 80+ - 1 K/D ratios. - Check.
Noone is surprised this game is full of hackers, but hey, it's free right?

Time spent in-game SWTOR>GW2.
While I have been a critic of SWTOR, playing it through to max level was far more enjoyable than leveling in GW2. To this day I still don't have a GW2 character above level 30 and dont ever see myself hitting max level in that game. In SWTOR I got to max level with two toons before I threw in the towel. |

There will be another MMORPG that is more successful than WoW was at its peak
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/29/12 12:11:39 PM
The Devs agree with you, that is why all AAA mmos that are being created are WoW-like themeparks.
I on the other hand, am one of those who thinks WoW was a one-time phenomenon, or at least a once in a generation thing. Sure another wildly successful MMO with tens of millions of subscribers over a period of a decade will emerge, but not anytime soon and by soon I mean in the next decade. Who knows after that, technology will be different and anything would be possible.
WoW went viral and is still sustained to this day because of it, people like MMOs with healthy populations. The popularity of WoW is because WoW is popular, the popularity of all other MMOs are based on the games themselves. This is one of the reasons post-WoW mmos have not seen the same success, they lack in gameplay and never went viral like WoW did shortly after launch, the lack of endgames and stuff like that contributing of course.
I don't think another MMO will go viral anytime soon. And I think that is a good thing - at some point devs will notice that trying to copy what happened to WoW is futile, and will be willing to take chances with new game ideas and new ways of making MMOs. |

What 3 games did you waste money on in 2012?
General Gaming « General Discussion 11/28/12 1:12:21 PM
MoP TSW GW2
The rest I got my money worth out of so I don't consider them wastes. I played these three games/expansions for a week or so each. |

[Column] Star Wars: The Old Republic: Is SWTOR Moving Toward the Dark Side or the Light?
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/20/12 7:57:00 PM
Originally posted by eddieg50 That might be the case, but many who bought SWTOR felt that it was not worth the sub fee. F2P should be designed to invite those players back, not push them away again. But I see the point, if you like the game it is worth the $15. But it is hard to like the game, EA missed up by launching SWTOR to soon, then they messed up by not fixing llum ASAP. Then they brought out the nerf hammer seriously hampering several classes. And now they roll out the worst F2P implementation I have ever seen. |

Originally posted by remyburke Horrible logic, if something is worth $5 to me but they are asking for $15 means I will not buy it whether I have the money or not.
SWTOR is just not worth the sub or the F2P restrictions, which is the problem. If EA really wanted to turn things around they would of designed a F2P that is both profitable and inviting - now they will have neither. It won't be as profitable as it could of been because not many who bought the game will come back and the new players will soon find they have to sub or get nickled and dimed to be able to continue - many won't - they are F2P players for a reason.
I am not a GW2 fan - but I think SWTOR would be better suited to be B2P with a cosmetic cash shop. |

if TESO ends up a WoW clone, would you still play it?

No - I don't dispise WoW, but I'm over it and it's clones for good.

Which is the most annoying type of player in a themepark mmo?

I voted other but then realized that what I was typing would belong in the nerd rager category. I hate those guys.

Would you sub $29.99 a month to a MMORPG if the game was just that incredible?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/19/12 2:07:53 PM
I definately would if the game was worth 30 bucks a month, I would have no problems with 50 a month if it was the best MMO I had ever played and had the longevity that current MMOs lack.
Hell, I spend about 100 a month buying single player games since there is no MMO out now that I am the least bit interested in playing. |
