I see a ton of media and forums posts surrounding the demise of this game.  I cannot see what you people are talking about.  I pride myself in being a realist and some things do point in a sour direction, but please let me show you what I see.

The game IS much better than it was when it released.  Everyone who plays enjoys the updates, for the most part.  New users are flocking to the game like crazy now, and loving it on top of that.  I know it's an endless trial, but they are moving on to T2 and subbing to the game.  I think the strategy of fixing the major downfalls of the game and the endless T1 trial after was a great move.

The developers have acknowledged the layoffs and have said that they are dedicated to the success of this game.  I know much has been put on the war failing side of the scale, but no one is mentioning the things that are going on the war succeeding side.

Just my opinion.

You are right opinion based on blind fanboism. I am sorry, I love WAR, always have, best PvP ever. However About 2 months or so ago I was on Dark Crag, the server had 900 almost 1000 players per faction at peak most days. Aion hit and it dropped to under 300, then i went to another server, and that one never peaks above 500 these days. Dark Crag is now to open transfers off the server. Population is indeed that bad. The game is losing players and is dying, in 6 months either it becomes RTM/F2P, or is shut down.

The changes are great, you are right, most people like them, but a lot do not, this is a case of too little too late I am afraid. I don't think the game can be saved on a P2P platform.

Atm If I ever decide to cancel subscription is because it's a pvp oriented game but no games have come out that are pve oriented so nothing to play apart of single players and/or free 2 play.

Try LoTRO(Lord of The Rings Online), it is the heaviest and only PvE only game(PvMP I do not consider PvP)

Yes I agree, I've also unsubscribed.  The game is too linear with too much grind in my opinion.  The North American market just isn't into that grindy-style gameplay; kill x of these, hand-in x of those.  This is something Blizzard has done well with WoW, there are grindy quests in WoW as well, except Blizzard added a lot of variety in their quest lines right from release.  There's just something about Aion that doesn't really immerse you into the overall story or gameplay.  The fluid combat and movement was developed well, however that alone is hardly going to keep the vast majority of the NA market interested.

Don't get me wrong,  I don't mind a challenge in levelling and having it take week's upon weeks of in-game hours to reach max level.  I just think it should be done tastefully, with a less linear "boring" progression model.  Even the cut-scenes, to me they seem as if they were just thrown in last minute.  They are not quick little CGI videos with corresponding voice-overs as I would have liked, they are just in-game graphics with some camera rotations.

Overall, not impressed as I originally was.

Not to defend Aion, but ummm you are full of s--- and contradiction. First you say wow offer variety, obviously you were not around the first 3 years wow was released. All there was was, kill X, Collect X, Take X, Talk to X. Not really until TBC did that change a bit and even more into WoTLK. Aion, is a challenge, but all I see is people that are used to wow as it is now, and all other mmos having had followed suit. Back in the first 3 years of wow, before TBC, there was a "grind" between 40-60, there were tons of quests. Now I am not far enough into Aion to pass judgment on it as far as quests continuing until max. But you come here to boast wow, and make a comparison at least state facts and not misconceived opinions

I think this 1.3.2 Patch is the best patch since launch. Which many people will agree on. Why did it take so long for them to have it be like this. Ask GOD. Even I don't know why it took them to realize Performance is the issue from the start. Polishing the character classes should be the next agenda on recuperating a MMO that should have class balance in a way for Even Play. Over Powered Classes should be equally buffed or something cause right now Destruction is ruling on all Servers.  Example is the Ravage Attack Chosens have which Knights of the Blazing Sun don't even have. The Shadow Warriors still need some major Buffs compared to its Squig Herder Counterpart which is so Overpowered compared to the Shadow Warriors. Atleast make the Shadow Warriors stronger in a way Squig Herders are not. Squig Herders got a longer range than Shadow Warriors. What happened to the Warrior Priest? Dual Wielded Disciple of Khaines in which Warrior Priest can only dual wield a book and hammer?  Atleast give the Warrior Priest a option to wield a Flail!!!! I can keep running on how Overpowered Destruction Characters got and  keep going but nahhhh. I know I will try to get shot down for this one. But yeah "EVEN THE CLASSES OUT IN OTHER WORDS"........

3 things, I love WAR, I see it as the best PvP game of all time. However, population is diminishing quickly, more and more everyday, I have a 6 month sub, 3 months in and SCs take hours to pop, and WBs are slow, along with Altdorf constaly under seige. This game is great, just it is bleeding badly. I think this is a case of too little too late.

I never had any issues with the game or been bothered by the bugs, but the population is the main issue.

Secondly, Shadow hunter is in a league of its own, as is Maurader(sp?) Squig herders counter part is White Lions.

Thirdly, balance I don't think I have ever noticed any issues with, this game is meant to be played as a team, not solo. And thus balance is there.

In closing, great game but unless people return and soon, I fear EA will pull the plug. Mythic will have little to no say, EA paid for development costs and marketing, and still covers hosting. They can and will pull the plug if this game does not recover soon. I hate saying this, I have defended it, but over the last two months it has gone downhill worse and worse. A few months back we had 900 online on each side now we are lucky to peak 500, the old server I was on is now low pop. My new med server is now dying as well. I hope only the best, but I will tell you how it is.

I have been around since Beta, and I enjoy it, never really had issues, I am not a prick and picky though. I have a glitch every now and then, but all new MMOs have those issues.

That game is good, and is getting better, most of the things people complained about have been fixed, the rest will be soon.

People need to drop the hate, grow up, shut up, or play and enjoy.

The game is alive and well, people on these forums are just sour, and most have not ever played it and those who have, have not played in months. The game is better now, it continues to get better, lots of things have been fixed, with more coming.

All these things people complain about have been fixed, there are a few issues, but all games have issues. Try the trial or pick up a copy, and enjoy PvP as it was meant to be. WAR is simply the best PvP game out there. Nothing compares.

They are not taking over, they merged into a new MMO house for EA. Just like EA Sports, together Mythic and Bioware formed a new EA MMO division. Both work on their own stuff, and share ideas at times but are not one company, they are under one publisher.

On the flip side, WAR is getting better, it has a major patch coming, most of the things people were complaining about have been fixed, with other fixes in the works. Try it again, and enjoy WAR!

Aion is nothing more than an Asian grindfest. IT offers nothing new, and does PvP and everything else either worse then other games or the same offering no reason to play it. Flame on fan bois flame on.

BTW For those saying there are subs or people will resub, as it stand until the first month or 3 is over you cannot say if or how many are subbed. Once again, flame on children.

*Goes back to WAR* <-----Real PvP(RvR)

It is only a grind if you make it one. It is your choice how much, or how little, or even how you get RR. If you do it hardcore and single mindedly then YOU make it a grind.

They have fixed tons over the past few patches and more coming. For those who do not think so, read the patch notes, try the trial. Stop mouthing a game on past experiences with the game. Those opinions are from before the past few patches, don't say they weren't because most if n not all what people were complaining about has been fixed.

Stop judging a game based on others opinions or past experience, MMOs change course in a heart beat. The past few patches prove that.

Stop lying, shill. I am currently subscribed and was playing a few hours ago.

If they have fixed 'tons', then name some things they have fixed besides typos and bugs in PQ stages that no one plays anymore.

I have named things that aren't fixed. Things that affect the majority of players.

Balance, AoE, City sieges, performance issues, the list goes on of the BIG things being fixed, and that have been fixed. It is so obvious you have not been on its not even funny.

The servers mentioned are holding steady with population, even getting more slightly everyday, I do census you know?

The ones that are dead they want people to move off of, not by force but by choice. I would rather see 4 good pop servers then everyone spread out. I believe from the looks of things they are trying to do just that.

Also about low population, choose the right server, stop going on the small, dead ones. On the ones I play, Iron Rock(Order) and Dark Crag(Destruction) There is plenty of people on to do things, I have never had issues doing SCs, oRvR, PQs, or anything else.

There are other good population realms but these I can vouch for personally.

They have fixed tons over the past few patches and more coming. For those who do not think so, read the patch notes, try the trial. Stop mouthing a game on past experiences with the game. The fact remains those games had a limited audience to begin with, no real backing by the company, they were made, and then left. Buggy at launch, performance issues and other things combined led to their demise, you cannot create a game with a limited audience and then do those things to the limited player base.

MMO = Massively multiplayer online.

Now Guild Wars. Is it Massive? Check!   Multiplayer? Check!   Online? Check! I guess it is a mmo!

Oh S*** not this again

Massively and Mutiplayer go togetther. Guild Wars is a Diablo Clone. Guild Wars is a Online RPG, not a MMO. It lacks Massive Mutiplay Gameplay.

Even the Developers say it's not a MMO.

GW2 is

mm go on the net and search how arena net define gw1 they stated repetedly this isnt a mmorpg

i dont recall the exact letter but i do know it was never a mmorpg even if everybody think it is

The reason? Because if they said MMORPG, you all would riot and complain that it isn't. It is, it has a mass amount of players online that can move about together. Just because the world outside cities is made for your group does not mean it is not an MMO.

Direct quote from ArenaNet.com:

"Located in Bellevue, Washington, ArenaNet is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Korea-based NCsoft Corporation."

Need a definition of subsidiary?

http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/subsidiary

There you go.

Other subsidiaries of NCSoft here in the states?

Paragon Studios

Carbine Studios

Hope that clears up some of the confusion.  If not, then research a bit more and I hope things become clear to you.

All that shows is they are published by NCSoft, sorry to burst your bubble of fun!

Using your own link for reference:

The parent and subsidiary remain separate legal entities, and the obligations of one are separate from those of the other. Nevertheless, if a subsidiary becomes financially insecure, the parent corporation is often sued by creditors. In some instances courts will hold the parent corporation liable, but generally the separation of corporate identities immunizes the parent corporation from financial responsibility for the subsidiary's liabilities.

And in the gaming industry, words do have different meanings. I would know, I am studying the industry in college.

NCSofts logo is all over the game so you are arguing over nothing. Take away NCSofts money and servers, no more GW or GW2.

I don't think anybody is disputing that. Some people have the impression that NCSoft is actually developing or creating the game though, they aren't. ArenaNet is creating the game. It is like the structure of Activision and Blizzard or EA and Bioware.

I will dispute that, and counter it. Without ArenaNet NCSoft would be in a world of hurt in the western world. To add, just because NCSoft funded the games does not mean ArenaNet is locked to them, the contract does have clauses to protect a developer from a publisher trying to control them in the entirety, and vice-versa, however they could always get another publisher, and I know several companies would be more than willing.

This is a two way road, NCSoft cannot destroy GW, or GW2 because it still belongs to ArenaNet. It is like people who own stock, they have say, but only to a certain point.

I just hope pve noobs from wow will be kept away from pvp and jumping won't become annoying like in any other MMOs (bunnies).

Ummmm I can think of no MMO where jumping helps anyone in PvP.

Since none of you understand how games are made or published. And to go further none of you know the difference. I will explain it to you all.

NCSoft is a publisher, they are in charge of Advertisement sales and related things, and generally fund development of the games they publish. They do not develop it, however they do have some say as they funded it(usually)

ArenaNet is a developer, they create the game. That is their job. They do not usually market it or deal with anything else.

Technically speaking, NCsoft is a hybrid. They publish and develop their own games sometimes. Such as Aion itself, it is completely self developed and published themselves.

True but in this case they are not. They are simply a publisher.

ArenaNet is not owned by NCSoft only funded by them, and as it stands they work as they are, without interference of NCSoft.

Quote from a few weeks ago...

Hi all,

I wanted to take a moment to offer my personal note on Jeff's departure.

Jeff is a personal friend of mine. We worked together very closely from the time he joined Blizzard in 1996, through our founding of ArenaNet in 2000, until he left ArenaNet to join NCsoft West in 2008. I'm sad to see him leaving NCsoft now. We remain good friends and I wish him great success in his next endeavor.

It's important to understand that ArenaNet is a separate and self-contained development studio. Jeff hasn't been involved in the day-to-day development of Guild Wars 2 since he left ArenaNet more than a year ago, and I don't expect his departure to have a direct impact on our studio or on Guild Wars 2. I continue to lead ArenaNet, and I'm not going anywhere.

We have an amazing team here at ArenaNet, and we continue to work hard on Guild Wars 2, preparing for the day when we can first reveal it to the world. That day is coming very soon now. I'm confident that, when you see Guild Wars 2 for the first time, you're going to love what you see, and any worries you have about its development will fade away.

--Mike O'Brien 01:56, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

That was released after the departure of Jeff from NCSoft, he was no longer with ArenaNet at that time. They are two separate companies and have two different jobs. Hopefully you now know what a publisher and a developer is.

The game is on a rebound and is working much better. Patches are coming out faster and fixing more and more, and improving other things. Now is the time to come back.  The servers listed when you login to the game are the most populated, Dark Crag is where I am and it has pqs and scs popping all the time.
