Let's get a Hoorah! NO MORE "OUTSIDE" Items
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 9/15/11 8:24:19 PM
i agree and i want nothing more with cash shops but alas, people are stupid enough to pay for game , pay for sub AND pay for items hell and i though that rock origami that sold for 12 $ on ebay was stupid... (it was a crumpled up piece of lined paper) so as long as there are people willing to pay for that (which there is one born every minute) its here to stay
P.S. leave my Collector's Edition alone, in fact for 120$ give me a poster and the sound track CD (and possibly a figurine) what do you get these days for a CE? just stupid in game stuff that you cant use till lvl 6 and become obsolete at lvl 7?
P.P.S free download and no sub, i think should have a cash shop. except for rental items, thats even more stupid... pay 2,50 for a ring that gives you 10% (insert stat) but you only keep it for 7 days weather you play or not. |

i challenge any company to make a game with the same features (pre CU) i would assume it would have to stay sci-fi due to JTL but the main features i would love to see skill system would be IDENTICAL (minus name changes) but have 4 branches + novice/Master with hybrids and elite professions. (and there needs to be more than 30 professions that are a must keep: doctor, CH, ... now that i think of it... ALL OF THEM!! just change the name to fit the universe you create. the TEF system (with 2-3 factions) name them however you want. green v yellow v black (green lantern reference :) ) this is the perfect ballance for those who want to pvp and those who dont and allowing them to live together. Planetary travel space and ships pewpew (and all sort of ships from personal to multi passenger to guild habitat)
make it an original universe, like project entropia, with weird ass creatures with hair on their eyeballs |

Diablo 3: Diablo III: Auction House to Utilize PayPal

Originally posted by Lynxeyed well the reason why companies are doing that is to cater to weekend warriors like yourself... so more people can play and consequently give more money. so of course blizzard is going to prefer your wallet to the wallet of your 13 year old who can probably just buy the box, specially since you will probably end up funding a few things here and there for him as well...xmas, birthday etc.... its a brilliant concept economically. on the other hand maybe weekend warriors should find games that fit best their shedule?. there is no such class in a game like diablo. it is really sad that gaming has come to this where the way games are made has CHANGED and CATERED for people who have no business in games... worst part is that we, the true gamers are a dying breed and this cash thing is an abomination and an insult to our community im sure if i make a game, sell the box 50$, then put a 9.99 subscription, and a special cash shop where anything in the game can be bought, that includes levels, spells armor weapons accessories and looks. so for 250$ you can have a max lvl character pimped out with all skills and build. you can also buy as many character slots as you want. for 5$/slot im sure you weekend warriors would not hesitate a second to take out your credit cards and get 4 maxed out characters... that you play on weekends...

for those getting ganked here is a tip that makes it ohhh so funny (on the ganked side) nowadays there really isnt much penalty for dying, even in a FFA Full loot (SPECIALLY at lvl 1) so what you do is when you find a ganker that kills you simply go back and punch him you punch ganker for 1 damage you punch ganker for 1 damage you punch ganker for 1 damage you punch ganker for 1 damage ganker strikes you for 50 damage you die rince repeat without saying a word until he gets fed up of you just showing up in front of him to get killed when he leaves to go gank other people start sending him PMs /tell ganker: hey wanna be my friend /tell ganker: i dont speak english /tell ganker: give me gold plz /tell ganker: potions? you got armors you give to me? /tell ganker: i got facebook i am from small village in affrica, i have internet in local school /tell ganker: i need friend you be friend and let your imagination roll if he blocks you remember his name and just remake a toon and keep talking to him /tell ganker: you blocked my other character so i made this one so we can speak, /tell ganker: so when we go hunt? i want kill stuff and be cool like you and if its a free to play game simply keep wanting to give him your ultimate love in private PMs and public posts on how he is so cool
i did that once, oh how sweet his anoyed tears are ganker whispers: dude im not your friend STOP SENDING ME TELLS, ILL REPORT YOU! /tell ganker report for what i just want to be your friend, will you be my friend? ganker whispers: STOP IT DONT YOU HAVE ANYTHING ELSE BETTER TO DO?
and at this point is where he tastes a bit of his own medicine

i will dissagree with most posters higher i would even recomend to get the combo pack at wal-mart or something for 9,99 and play them in order from begining to end. diablo 1 graphics outdated of course but gameplay still amazing lore is deep and you actually go down to the depths of hell to fight diablo himself. (dont worry i wont give spoilers) diablo 2 you keep following your hero from diablo 1 from another person's point of view and again (of course) you go down to the depths of hell and fight diablo... yes diablo 1 and 2 have very outdated graphics... but the gameplay, story, quests and lore are incredible... i still play diablo 2 and after some point i forget the shitty graphics. hell even diablo 1 is still good then again i come from a generation of gamers that prefer a good gameplay with bad graphics than a bad gameplay with good graphics. my computer can run the cry2 engine without a hickup on max and i still think diablo 1 and 2 are great games to play nowadays. (less D1 than D2) recomendations for D1 (warrior class) Recommendations for D2 (Druid (expansion) or amazon regular, easy mode with the barbarian)) |

i am a huge fan of open world pvp. but i also have some sense of honor, even in games. if i am going to kill you, you will be facing me and armed translated to MMO talk, if i am going to kill you, you can be sure that you will have the chance of killing me. if you are defenseless i will on the other hand help you or ignore you
(unless you attack me first, in which case ill kill you and just to humiliate you even more, i wont even loot you. just to say you suck so much that taking your stuff isnt worth my time sometimes ill drop 1 unit of currency like giving 1 cent as tip to a waitress)
other than that my fun in pvp is to actually participate in large warfare, guild wars/ alliance wars, territory control with as many players as possible. (not battlegrounds or reserved pvp zones, it needs to be able to happen whenever, whereever) and also to go gank those bullies killing newbies... their tears are oh so sweater :) |

Originally posted by stamps79 i would be willing to dish out 10$/month on that game... if that is not enough to stay competitive on the hard core realm then i guess i will have to pass on it. (hard core real is semi-permadeath, when you die that character gets moved to the default (main) realm. so everyone in that hardcore realm you know they have not died yet.)

i have never been a fan of motion gaming. when i play video games i NEED to feel getting fat... when i game i am on a couch or a very lazy arm chair (if i could afford it i would get the one that massages you and has heat pads) the most ill do is point a gun to the screen (duck hunt anyone? :P)
disclaimer: i am a coach/personnal trainer for a living and probably in better shape than most of you (no offence intended) |

Originally posted by Jenuviel heh i have been puting aside 15$/month (+ 50$ every 4) if i am not playing an MMO, or i didnt buy a game during those 4 months. (on top of my regular savings) saved close to 300$ since november 2010 when i quit eve online. since those 300$ are reserved for entertainment purposes... i dont know what to spend it on.! |

Free to Play or Pay to Play?? Any Pros and Cons??

Originally posted by kiltak the thing is that you ALREADY pay for Major updates in the form of expansions so in 1 year you pay 120$ for your major updates. ADD to that 15$/month so they can fix your bugs (that should have been dealt in the closed/open beta or game testers session) and ADD to that say something reasonable 10-20$/month on vanity or that rainbow pissing unicorn with wings... so a free game with no sub SHOULD (and has to) have cash shop... things in there should be convenience
one thing that bewilders me, i saw this in ragnarok online, http://www.playragnarok.com/kafrashop/detail.aspx?i=97&p=1&c=5 note its a rental item... so you pay and you dont have it anymore after 7 days... now thats just low... and its about 2,50$ aprox oh yes it buffs up your character... 10% extra critical hits... then you have the hats that are for keeps that range from 2-10$ http://www.playragnarok.com/kafrashop/list.aspx?c=2&page=3 yes that also buff up your stats... basically... pay to be stronger... (and for some items keep paying on a regular base) this is just one game, i heard that allods is worse? don t know if they changed the pricing or not. |

hey man, i also wanted to make a game, and still am, but more as a hobby than anything else... and while doing research i found myself stuck with some barriers (most of them moneyz) LICENCING the open source programs you are using, make sure you read carefully what part of it is open and what part requires extra licensing. "blender" is tricky that way for example some things are open some things are not. COPYRIGHT MATERIAL music/soundFX, you need to have the rights...you can "hire" a composer but i can assure you it wont be free. the only free music you will get is something composed by yourself. (i studdied in music so that was not much a problem for myself) textures deviant-art might be a good place to start, if you already found people interested in working on the project for free, good! if not again the only free artistic design portion will be things you draw yourself (i have huge problems here since a kindergarten kid can draw a better stickman than me) 3D models (or sprites in your case since its 2D). are not free either... those are not as easy to make as you think...(then again i cant even draw a stickman) as from your post you seem to know about programming and networks so thats fine there, though i dont think your server will be available for ever, usually people finish school and leave...maybe in university you could keep some alumni rights to use their facilities... but highschool as soon as you graduate you no longer have rights to step in it without permission. MY SUGGESTIONS go for the 3D instead of the 2D, simple doesnt mean 2D, look at minecraft, avatars are made with 13 square prims (blocks if you will) and everything else are giant textured blocks. find a team, each person with its own speciality (10 people should be enough to start a small project... dont forget marketing, accounting, webmaster and managing positions) making a game (specially an MMO) is not a 1 man job, trust me. dont make it free with donations only. "when your good at doing something, never do it for free" - Joker (Batman: The Dark Night) people, (reffering to artists mostly) are 80% of the time starving if they do nothing else. maybe during development, you can have it as donations only, but when it releases make them buy it. to get donations, you need to advertise it on a website (and not some geocities free hosting shit filled with porn adds) needs to be a legitimate site. www.(insertgamename).net/org/com etc... with a forum with discussion centers and news section and REGULAR development blogs, to show that you are doing progress... if i go on the site and see that your last post was april 2009, to hell im gonna give you a penny for that... then again if i see a progression post every week (be simply i colored the grass green this week)i might be more inclined to donate. i wont lie, its alot of work! and once you have it up and running you need to keep it maintained. else you will end up with a game where you and your best friend log in to play... (and he is alt tabbed most of the time playing rift or LOTRO or whatever the new flavor of the month is) what i am currently doing with my game while i get time and money for it, i am building the concept without leaving anything out. from the skill/combat/crafting system to what color eyes i will be allowing for character creation. i am also learning 3D modeling and how to use/run/compile game engines and simply scripting/programing i am not touching anything network related since i have no clue what so ever about it i am also readin everything about the LEGALITY of what i am using and how i will be using. can i use this texture i made with MS Paint? or will i have to pay microsoft some sort of royalties... that kind of stuff. is everything you are using legal for example. who owns the color red? how about blue? (thats something you should be asking yourself) hope this helps a bit... if you have any questions you can PM me here, i have done some research on it and maybe it can benefit you/help you in one way or another.
