[Preview] Guild Wars 2: Flame & Frost’s Epic Conclusion
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 4/23/13 1:20:57 PM
I hardly play more than 10 hours a week now but I still enjoy the WvW :)
Hailing to all my fellow GW2 players! |

Recently I found myself checking out a kickstarter mmorpg that managed to acquire a few millions. Just now I thought back about the F2P vs. sub discussion that has been going around for a while, and I suddenly had the thought: would it be financially interesting for mmorpg developers to make part of their game paid and part of it kickstarter?
Say, if you want to make the most advanced game and make the basic part paid (either sub or one-time payment) (basic part would be "you can play the game" such as go to max level or pvp or have access to dungeons) and let players decide features for an extended part such as extra content, endgame, cosmetics, housing, professions, etc. then wouldn't that give players a lot of individual choice for the right price? Based on the amount of money given the developer shows what can be applied.
For example: - leveling to max level for 20 Euro's or 5 euro a month - extra: cosmetics ("x" amount of money starting from 5 euro's) - extra: dungeons ("x" amount of money starting from 5 euro's) - etc. Perhaps even add advanced interface options.
It would be difficult applying different things to differen players |

Yeah I understand what you mean, but if you like leveling you can level until the max and then just buy a nice car for the looks. Also if you race with friends you won't have much problems. Only thing I miss then if you race with friends it may become boring if one always wins. It would have been nice if you could set a handicap. |

Besides Bugs,Balance, and Housing, how could GW2 be improved?

Well maybe the mmorpg genre needs more non-violent content because when I see it's all about violence I am actually not that surprised.
Meh. Really nice games list though it's what I come here for...:D |

I can mention a lot of little annoyances, that I could find in any mmorpg anyway, so I'll keep it with the biggest ones and will try to explain as good as possible....I've even been bashing people on this forum trying to lol at this game and making it look bad. I'm not that type but I want to be realistic after a few months of playing, so here goes:
Firstly I think that ANet is pretty good in dealing with its customers, and they hit the nail on the head in explaining the WvW system's fairness where 3 servers would be balanced out by 2 weaker ones grouping up against the top server. But what happened? Server transfer is now free and I was in the top tier server (north america). This resulted in all the win-to-play jackasses join the server with the biggest zerg (because thats how they win WvW now sadly) and now that server (Sea of Sorrows) is dominating the top tier and the other 2 tiers are stuck since they cant go down because they are too strong and they cant go up becuase theyre already in the top. And this is also where I am VERY disappointed in the community overall that they are not able to solve the problem with the 2 weaker servers actually teaming up against the stronger one. Apparently they have morals and principles not to team up with another "because they are strong enough" but it is not considered cheating to abuse a small game update for your winnings (happened this week. for people who don't know the game, the server Sea of Sorrows captured the biggest castle within 5 minutes after the updatebecause all the defense that was built up got wiped out by the updated). Next to that when i ask for a small group to do smaller tasks hardly anyone is doing it. And I think that's very sad for the rank 2 (former rank 1, and with few numbers still by far the most skilled) server.
The second thing I really miss is the feeling of progressing through zones. Where in WoW/Lotro you can be quite safe on the paths and you have the feeling that you are traveling, in GW2 there is no path. It also goes too fast for me at times with events and such, running my ass off to keep up. Where I do find Lotro too calm eventually, apparently GW2 just storms my brain. So what I mean is that I have the feeling the zones miss integration with the storyline and miss the calmness that WoW/Lotro used to have. Even though it's true that it's great that you get scaled to zones so it doesnt become too easy, on the other hand having to deal with the challenge continuously without interruption I think is too much. On the contrary this is why I highly enjoyed the jumping puzzles; they were more calm and you could take your time in most of them.
The third thing is addiction marketing. ANet has still implemented things that require a player to be online at least 4 hours a day if not more. Where i think that the mmorpg's have gone way too far in this in general, I used to praise GW2 for being different but then again I saw how far from the truth they still are. I am a guy who likes to finish a game, but like WvW, capturing a camp 100.000 times I think is pure addiction marketing. In fact they should be sued for that. I also don't get it, because you can make me and probably most people play for the same amount of money and make it around 10 hours per week. I just think it's strange to sell a game where you only pay once and then implement addiction marketing. It totally doesn't make sense to me!
Lastly there is hardly room for error in money/inventory management. It is tough to keep up your money and knowing what to do with your inventory AND play the game. I also think this is not Trading Wars, but Guild Wars. Even though it is not that hard to just play the game and get your yellows and perhaps exotics on the way, it is however true that the people with the nicest looking items in the game are not the most skilled people in playing but the most skilled people in trading or they are skilled and farm the game (where I come back to addiction marketing).
I think that my complaints are more against the mmorpg community overall than against ANet, although i think that if you have any principles left you dont implement achievements that you have to play 10.000+ hours for. I think it's a shame. They could have made it really easy and give rewards for doing different things rather than the same thing over and over again, and make a clear limit to it as to tell the players that THIS game is NOT one you get rewarded for by being addicted to it.
Shame on ANet, but just as much shame on the GW2 community and the mmorpg community in general. These things really put me off and now made me stop playing. |

Originally posted by itgrowls The fact that there is one more set that you need to grind for doesn't mean that you can't finish content without it. That was the point with GW, that is the point, and that will always be the point. It won't change in a few months because ANet has it very well figured out with its no-sub mmorpg. You can get gear by being very skilled, very patient or very sociable (grouping gives better rewards).
Your second point I don't know because many people buy GW, play it for a bit then quit. They've seen the game then move on. It's just not their game but they tried it because of their clan, friends or just curiosity. This has nothing to do with ANet failing to respond to its customers.
Finally it's not like I'm a fanboi. So if you really want to complain, then complain against the things that makes the mmorpg addictive, such as the max achievements for WvW, max achievements for each weapon type, etc. etc. |

Regarding the concerns of GW2 becoming a gear treadmill: Our Studio Design Director Chris Whiteside just posted this: https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/info/news/A-message-from-our-Studio-Design-Director-Chris-Whiteside/first#post721451 I think it is nice that a developer such as Arenanet really can respond to its customers. I am glad for it! |

the game feels like too much energy, i get tired from it fast

you can buy something called "telportation device", i repeat "telportation" without the e...i forgot where but gw2db maybe could tell you or otherwise google. (not sure if it was device or something else, but it was telportation) what it basically does is making you jump forward in the direction you stand in, or something like that. it's much farther than your normal jump. they're not expensive so you can try one out anyways. |

Guild Wars 2: The Legendary Endgame
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 7/19/12 1:13:02 PM
stats used to be cool wehn pro players were noobs...back in the days. "oh wow that guy has a legendary, look at the sick stats!" the guy didnt have to showoff by farming others, he'd just stand in a city and get some love.
nowadays the community has been damaged and its not about that weapon with that stats because he deserved it, but now its that weapon with that stats because he grinded his ass off. its too bad really, and i think lack of grind and promotion of difficulty says it all. |

Found it hard getting through the last content
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 5/13/12 3:29:13 PM
I love lotro. I played great pvp and found one of the nicest guilds in a long time. I enjoyed stacking up everything in my banks since I'm a pack rat :D.
The problem is, what I really missed is getting through the last update. Like, the first few levels were okay but even now I'm at about lvl 73 I quit a long time ago. Idk...normally I'm not bothered but I just could not find the quests easily. Is it (still) a problem, or is it okay? |

Meh I'm not in a hurry. After 4-5 months of GW1 I STILL like it more than WoW XD.
I think pre-orders should not take place for too long. I think the release would be September and that's already a pretty long time. |
|

Agreed. Well worth your money, it's gonna be a really fun game. |
