It can be funny, sure, in my opinion.

I didn't bring up UO as I didn't play it. From what I hear/read it was hardcore in the sence of open world PvP, pre-trammel, I believe?  

Which exposes another topic. Generational MMO crowds. Uo>EQ>Wow.    What EQ did to MMO's was make it more casual and accesable, and fancy 3Ds. Which is exactly what people complain about what WoW did to MMO's too. By now we are seeing a watered down version of a watered down version, eh?

What do we have now that is comparable to UO? Eve, Darkfall?  While great games,..they didn't have that UO rpg feel, I believe.

 

One good thing about today's games are that we do have a variety to choose from. Different strokes like you mentioned. It stands to reason that it's more fun for people to play in an active world, which may be an underlying reason people like to fanboi it up and/or follow crowds since an MMO is better with more people, TSW included.

 

 

Did you even play EQ? That is such a false statement if I've ever heard one. I wont speak of UO as I didnt play it, but I played EQ the day it came out  for about 7 years. It was not a casual MMO and it sure didnt make MMO's casual.

I like TSW alot, I play it casually. Its the only sub game I pay for atm. I enjoy the setting and the stories. I think the graphics and sounds make the game really enjoyable. The first couple "instances" group content I've done have been done really well and I enjoyed them.

I did not like AOC, i'm not a person that holds grudges against gaming companies. We all have choices, if you dont like it then you speak with your money and thats what I do.

On a side note, I'm not sure why people are complaining about a sub and "a cash shop to boot" there are alot of games that do this including WoW. Why does Blizzard get a pass on this? Plus the "cash shop" is just for clothing stuff nothing really game changing in it. You dont have to buy anything if you dont want to its not going to effect you in the game or cause you to have a disadvantage.

Thats not really a fair question as the game was not designed in that fashion, this games mass appeal is that its FREE after the box price. They designed the game for that.

I'm not getting into whether or not the game is good or not. (Just saying a monkey could play this game and get by all this "challenging" content that people speak off)

What is this change you talk about? Seriously there is nothing differnt GW2 has offered. This is my opinion.

I just find the game very boring, I logged and was just bored with the same old same old. Not saying people cant enjoy the game I'm glad that people do. Game just isnt for me.

To the people that say the content in GW2 is hard and challenging, I'm not sure if they've played another MMO or a MMO ever in their life, GW2 content has been the easiest i've ever seen in any MMO to date that I have played and I have played alot of them.

I played it have on char to max 55 and a few others in mid 30's and subbed before it went F2P, I was excited to play it again when it was going to go F2P. I even got a few my friends back into it after they heard it was going F2P, then it happened and I was very disappointed. It didnt fill right anymore and the pay model is horrible.

I got TSW and enjoying that right now I just dont see myself going back to VG its a great game I really enjoyed it and there is TONS to do. Crafting and Dipo is top notch, but I dont know what it is but it doesnt feel like it did when I was subbed playing with subbed players.

I hope the best for VG cause it should have been the game everybody played after eq1.

EQ2 - Endgame before F2P crap happened was WAY better

Hell Rift endgame is better - and a much better launch.

I agree with the OP gerenal thought, I wasnt in to all the hyep or anything I wasnt sure If i was going to pick up GW2 or not. Some friends got and told me it was ok, so I did.

I install it, create a char and was waiting for some epic cini cut to explain whats going on..(most games nowadays do it pretty good) and I got some lame thing and I'm not even sure how to describe it, it was so bad. It didnt get me into wanting to play it anyhow.

Not saying the game is bad, its ok nothing really that special about it...we have seen this all before.  IMO it was the worse opening to a game in very long time. TSW had a really good opening wanting me to dive in and figure out what was going on, best one i've seen in awhile.

So far the char story cut scenes are pretty lame and un-eventful, again not say the game overall is bad but the cut scenes and voice overs are horrid to what I was thinking would be the norm anymore with SWTOR and TSW that have taken that to a new level.

Just some of the old games I still play, new games are good to, just dont find as many. I really like the new Batman game. I love MLB the Show call me crazy thats up there for best sports game ever, close.

I also enjoy the new FPS ones, COD, MW3 those are decent games.....will never come close to Socom 2 for PS2 though, or Quake 2.

It was, it was calle AC 2 had grahpics way beyond its time but players pretty much rejected it for some reason (computers couldnt handle it very well unless you had the high end stuff for the day) and they shut it down.

EQ1 was an amazing ground breaking game, EQ2 not so much, just because there is a 2 after it doesnt mean its gonig to be better then the first.

If you want Dungeon crawl, try Vanguard (its going FTP this summer) classic old school open world crawl. Some dungeons take days to get through.

No, eq1 did not and eq1 actually had alot of quest. You actually had to go find them and explore, it was not a guide you to the "I win button" game like the ones today. Eq1 was an explore open dungeon find the mobs you needed for the quests you had to actually work at (which some were pretty massive) type a game. Not a zone into an instance and go as fast as you can then repeat. It actually had consequences when you died, so playing with people that had no clue would actually be a bad thing. The grind came from PH's, drop rates, and deaths.

And you never played eq2, becuase that game had a ton of quest at launch, and in eq2 current state its a "I win button game" now it was not like at launch they messed that game up big time.

Past sucesses is not proof for future ones and Blizzard today is very different from the company that started on Wow in the late 90s.

I think it is easier for another company to change the genre than Blizz. Blizz players expect certain things from a Blizz MMO. Companies like Zenimax/Bethesda and Undead labs have a lot easier time to change the genre since they don´t have any MMO luggage but both have talented teams.

Since Blizzard merged with Activision thecompany have changed a lot, and frankly have innovative games never really been their speciallity. Wow was a polished up version of EQ. Strain who got the idea and started working on it played EQ, and Kaplan who took over got the job because he was in the same EQ raid guild as Morhaime.

In late 2004 we needed a polished version of already excisting games that offered more for regular players as well. Making something like that is what Blizzard do best. Creating something new from scratch on the other hand takes very different skills.

My bet is instead on Undead labs "Class 4". The game will more or less be it´s own genre when it launches and it have an very good team including the same lead designer that Wow had in the beginning. The mechanics it uses are very different from what other MMOs have. Also it isn´t funded by EA or Activision who never dared to really gamble but by Microsoft who so far never put a dime in the genre before.

I think Blizzards next large MMO will be "Wow 2", not "Titan". Blizz always loved sequals and Wow 2 will surely be released before 2020, mixing Wow with whatever style MMOs will have by then.

 

 

I dont post much at all, if any, but I have to call out BS when I see it. WoW is/was not a polished EQ, i dont know what your smoking, I dont even think I want it. WoW and EQ have nothing in common, side they are fanstasy thats it, period. EQ was and is still a superior product then WoW will ever be.

Plus, you are disqualified from the conversation to the fact you dont even know that Microsoft actually had a pretty successful spot in the genre, ever heard of Asheron's Call? That sir was developed/produced/supported all by Microsoft. They actually made AC2, which for some reason, flopped hard the AC1 fans revolted against it. AC2 graphics would rival WoW graphics rightnow.

You should actually play some games (EQ) before making statements you dont know what your talking about. Also, you should do some research look back of the history on MMO's before making statesment you dont know about,

I re-subbed and loving it also, the game is so in depth. So much to learn makes me feel like a noob again, enough with these easy mode MMO's anymore. I wish more MMO's where harder and more changelling.
