Why would anyone buy another game from FUNCOM?

AO and AoC have their good points but both were a mess on release and both had to go through a lot of fixing just to get to par. Granted they did a great job with fixing AO but I have no idea how AoC is now since I quite a few months after release, but I still wouldn't play it just because of how they handled their community relations and release.
It could be that FC can make great single player games like Dreamfall and TLJ but has trouble with multiplayer games, or it could be that they just have bad luck. Having two MMOs release in a subpar state is definitely a black eye no matter what way you look at it, so I can understand some of the concern. (SWG/Sony level rage I think is a bit much though.) I honestly hope TSW does well, though it worries me that we haven't heard much lately. I'm just not going to be blinded to reality or by a name. Not saying you are but some folks obviously are.

I haven't played WoW in a long while and I get these phising emails 2 and 3 times a day. I even get them for Aion now and I no longer play that game either. The funniest one I got was for Aion where the person couldn't even write a coherent sentence! It went something like: You account been hacked blah blah blah.

Would you still try this game out even if it isn't being developed by Bioware?(Poll)
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 7/14/10 8:08:32 AM
The biggest problem with your poll is that the info and looks of the game are a direct result of what Bioware has done so I don't think you can reasonably separate the two like you're asking ("let's say that all the info we have on this game stayed the same."). There's just too much of a chance that another company wouldn't produce what we're seeing so I don't think the poll is a good one especially with the first option. |

am i too fussy, or are most games as bad as i think they are?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/03/10 8:57:48 AM
If you're spending your money then you can never be too fussy. That's the way I see it at least. It's because too many are willing to just settle for status quo or even subpar that we get the lack luster and poorly done MMOs that are being released more and more these days.
If you really want better, you have to speak by closing your wallet. |

The major difference between RMT and what Blizzard and other companies are doing is they own the intellectual rights to the property they're selling. If you don't own the intellectual property rights you have no right to sell the property.
Some people take a narrow view of what RMT is and elect to only see Real Money Transfer or Trading, when in fact it goes deeper then that. The issue with RMT is individuals profiting off of someone elses intellectual property.
If you create paintings or write stories, or software programs and someone comes along and starts selling those programs/paintings/stories without your permission, they'd get demonized for doing that. But now you start selling the same programs/paintings/writings or create special programs/paintings/writings to sell, is that a double standard? Nope. How could it be? You created it, so there's not a thing wrong with you selling it.
People will look for any excuse to try and justify RMT and there just is no justification for it. No matter how you twist it around and upside down, it's still individuals/companies profiting (bigtime) off of a developer/designer's work. |

General: Legendary Failures of Legend, Part One
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 1/27/10 11:38:23 AM
"Other causes of SB.EXE errors included network instability, server instability, general instability, phases of the moon, and something you did you know what you did don't lie."
Simply classic. ... And sometimes when it's really dark and scary in my room I can hear the echos of screams from the poor people who were trying to siege only to have the server crash and they come back to a tree that'd reset. |

General: Jennings: How PvP Can Break Your Game
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 12/16/09 11:39:24 AM
You know I've always wondered why developers don't make PvPvE games that separate PvP skills/stats/items from PvE ones more often (if ever?). Sure it'd be more time consuming but would help alleviate problems with balancing for PvP screwing up PvE or vice versa. In essence the it'd be more time consuming thing would balance itself out because you wouldn't be performing a high wire act trying to not break one or the other.
Anyway, good read. And you should have known that if you weren't going to boast about the wonders of PvP in your article then you know you suck, are a carebear, know nothing of MMOs, hate your mom and whatever...

Aion: Newbies Silenced to Combat Gold Spammers
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/05/09 10:44:41 AM
Spammers get your name from chat participation so going anon doesn't always work. If they had your name before you went anon that's also a factor. No one thing is going to fix this problem. It'll take actions from gamers and NCSoft to really get this under control. This weekend's spam bots will probably give NCSoft some legal avenues they can look into as well.
1) Stop buying gold you lazy asses. 2) NCSoft should look at what Blizzard has done to combat gold spammers and use what will work from their actions for Aion game. 3) Report any bots you see. Stupid names like Gffggqq are a dead give away. There's a function under Actions (I forget the actual name) that lets you target the character and auto report them. The problem is as far as I can tell it only gives you 9 or 10 reports. This should reset after a certain time, so they really need to change that. 4) Sending a list of spammer names to help.ncsoft.com really isn't affective since the spammers get to 5 spam to hell then delete that character. Rightclick <name>: Report Spam and having it send the spam text associated with the name plus the account name is needed. 5) Newbies should have their own channel until level 10. Harsh but ya gotta do what you gotta do for the greater good. This limits the number of players affected by spam and makes it easier for a GM to monitor that channel. 6) Filter chat looking for certain keywords known to be common to gold spammers. It won't catch it all but like I said no one thing is going to fix this. 7) Stop enabling these assholes by just thinking it doesn't affect you. Gold spam/selling/buying/powerleveling affects everyone in an MMO in one way or another, so stop being an enabler and report them. 8) NCSoft needs a group of GMs who's only job is to track down spammers/botters/buyers/sellers.
And I'm sure there's more that can be done as well. |

I quit playing WoW a good while ago, but hasn't WoW been on it's supposed last leg for sometime now? :D |

My server has a queue. Sometimes it's up to 2 hours, but so far I've been lucky and haven't had to wait that long.
And if they want to cut the queues, there shouldn't be a need to reroll. Do what Blizzard did and offer a couple full transfer servers from high queue servers and a couple of fresh start servers. That means the full transfer servers would be only for transfers for the first 2 weeks or whatever, then open it up to the public. Let guillds transfer also and any transfers would be full EQ with bank and mail (not sure if they can do AH).
I think overall you'd see a huge improvement if they did that, but right now I think they want to see things stabilize to see what they have while new players get their keys and login. |

Has anyone pre-ordered from Best Buy? I want the Grond vanity pet but the link www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp for ordering the game doesn't give any info on if this is the one with the early access and the Grond pet. |
