Does this game still have the genres most outdated combat system?
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 5/23/13 1:56:39 AM
I moved to LOTRO after years on and off of running around in WoW raids, constantly moving and mashing buttons until my fingers bled. It may be that I'm getting older, but I appreciate the slower combat style of LOTRO. I feel like I can relax.
As far from the community being elitist, I haven't encountered that in the least. It is the most welcoming, helpful group of players I've met in any MMO. |

How about a rollback?

LOTRO, but pay the monthly sub or you get nickel and dimed to death.

I've been having problems with the LOTRO client locking up (stops responding) on zoning. It's been happening literally about 1/5 of the time I zone, including just going in and out of buildings in Bree. I contacted their support and the below response is what I got. Does this sound right? I haven't had this problem in any of the several other MMO's I've played with this OS.
Thank you for your reply. We believe this problem is related to memory limitations in 32-bit versions of Windows, such as the one you are using. In these versions of Windows, the operating system has problems handling processes once they pass a certain size. When the LOTRO client process passes a size that windows can no longer handle stability, LOTRO crashes. Lowering video settings or disabling sound can reduce the occurrence of these crashes by causing the LOTRO client to use less memory. Other players have detailed a Windows change that allows it to handle larger processes, detailed here. Please not that these steps are not officially supported and that we cannot guarantee they will work for you. The long term solution for this problem would be upgrading to a 64-bit version of Windows that does not have this memory limitation.

Originally posted by Blessings So high-end crafting recipes and materials come mainly from raids? Is raiding the end-game PvE focus? Crap, I'm still looking for a game where you can be a desirable crafter without having to do this. |

OK, great! Can you be successful at crafting without raiding much?

I see in the class/job (or whatever it's called in this game) listing that there's several crafting choices. Is crafting and gathering a way to advance? Is it well developed? Is there a market for crafted goods? I'm particularly interested in fishing! :)

I'm tending to spam the left mouse key attack (I'm also using my other attacks on cooldown) and I'm constantly finding myself unable to dash out of the red circles because I'm locked in an attack animation when the mob attack goes off. Shouldn't dash override your current attack and make you run right away? How do I adjust to this?
Thanks! |

Suggest one of these - WOW, EQ2 or LOTRO - and why?

WoW, if you want the most polished MMO available with tons to do both while levelling and at max level. The easiest of the three to get caught up on.

Soul-crushing? I'd give that one to the original EQ content. Most of the raids were basically tank-and-spank, but the number of people required to be coordinated (not just during the raid, but even with the buffing before-hand) was straining. And then there were the mostly naked corpse runs if the raid wiped...that was really the crushing part.

I really want to play LOTRO, but I keep reading that it's shutting down in 2014 when the IP rights expire. I guess they have the option to extend to 2017, but many question whether it's profitable enough to warrant the expense. =/

Great. So if I buy the $19.99 pack, I get into beta right away?

I'm considering playing a Control Wizard and I have a couple of questions:
1) Is crowd control really needed in dungeons, or is it basically just a zerg fest? 2) I hear there are multiple mob adds on most boss encounters. How do you pick what to CC? Thanks! |

My favorite part of WoW was always hunter pets, so I'm interested in this game. I'm interested enough to consider paying $19.99 for the lowest level VIP pack for early beta access. Is the closed beta currently up and functioning continuously?
Thanks! |

I've fought a couple of dungeon "bosses" now on my GWF. It seems that the only way to avoid telegraphed moves (not the red circle biggies, the more regular attacks) is to just swing once or twice and move to the side. If you get into a swing-fest, you'll find yourself rooted and unable to move before the blow lands. Does this sound right?

I created a new Turbine account to try out LOTRO. When I log into account management, I see zero options for signing up for a paid, full-access account. As a matter of fact, it doesn't list me as having any type of subs at all, even free. How do I do this? I've been using the following site for account management:

Thanks! |
