I wonder why people see GW2 as so much better than TSW. I'm not saying TSW is great, but neither is GW2. Combat felt just as disconnected in GW2 as it does in TSW for me.

Haven't played in the last few beta events though so it might have improved, but GW2 is far from the second coming everyone seems to be believing it is.

Wait wasn't D3 the second comming ?...noway GW2 or TSW could match the the great combat feel from D3

15% in one year is quite a large sum of money when it comes to investments and you are being extremely short sighted when it comes to their 'value'. With WoW losing a lot of subs and nothing in view past MoP and SC2 expansion they have nothing else coming out for a considerable time and that is even assuming that their upcomming releases sell as well as expected which they may not.

When you are dealing with companies like this you need to be thinking 5 years+ down the line. Vivendi obviously think keeping them around is a greater risk than getting the cash and investing somewhere else.

15% is a lot of money when only look at that 15%. WoW still has 10.2 million subscribers and still makes over $1 billion in subscriptions alone.

Also, just because Blizzard hasnt announced anything past MoP and SC2:HotS does not mean they dont have anything coming in the next 5 years.

WoW expansions have been every 2 years(they've been trying to get them down to 1.5 years but always run into complications), there is an announced 3rd SC2 expansion, there will undoubtedly be D3 expansions and Project Titan.
And lets not forget about those WoW subscriptions which in the time span you suggested will make around $6-7 billion.

Who's being short sighted again?

Actually if you look at the numbers it  appears WOW subscriptions sit somewhere between 3-4 million ....with about a 25% drop in revenue this year so far....I'm not sure about being short sighted but I don't live in a  dream world

What a joke.  Any game that wants to maximize retail box sales, online downloads etc, will not go F2P in 6 months.  If they wanted to go that way they would either wait longer to go F2P, or start the game that way.

So far any game that adds or has Item shops has or is going F2p. In simpler terms bilking as much money as can up front and keeping income flow after subs leave.

So WoW and EVE are going f2p? Nice. Wanna place a bet on this prediction?

Bad comparison ..WOW has managed to sell shit on a stick since 2006 and 10 million folks paid for it ...newer games like Rift Tera and TSW have to supply 5x the product and value to get 1/10 the box sales .I'm not a big fan of F2P and I've become tainted with monthly subs so I really hope the B2P model offered by GW2 becomes  the working template for modern games .

Can't help you here ,it's the GW2 effect ......everything I've tried to play is just dead, tried Tera beta and I couldn't get any character past level 10 ,spent two weekends in TSW and to be honest if they paid me to play it I couldn't . I gave Aion another try and just past making my character the game went flat , I can't play in a dead world anymore if the world isn't alive no quest ,combat or pvp is going to catch my eye !!

Wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole ....this is headed f2p

If you are speaking for yourself well said ....I  hope you found it easier finding events

Pretty sure most people who play the game long-term will end up paying just as much, if not more, than they would if they were paying a $15/month sub. So yes, i would pay a sub for GW2. I'm sure the release schedule for expansions and content in the store will be worked out to get a lot of money out of people.

It's not about the money it's about the quality ...if the expansions are good ahd the content is good folks will pay ...in the past we were stuck paying every month just hoping things would change and when an expansion came we had to pay anyways .I'll be dammed if I'm going to 15$ a month for any game that isn't a heck of a lot better then a B2P game ...if it's even close I'm not going to be the sucker ,unlike some folks I've been milked long enough by companies that put out products like  SWTOR,Tera

TSW and Wow .

Do to the "themeparks won, get over it" crowd and the dumbing down of everything to make it "fair" for the less intelligent, you can kiss open world pvp good-bye.

Again, MMORPGs have become a lobby (hubs) single player/co-op. Congrats to the "winners"!

Actually GW2 shows real promise if they can manage to alienate the 1 % of all mmorpgs true dickhead open world pvpers and the 1% carrot chasing raiders in one move ….the silent 98% majority of folks will have a great game to play

If a game is good I gladly pay a subscription fee. Since Guild Wars 2 doesn't, I'll gladly throw money at the shop they have instead.

My thoughts exactly. I like to actuallly help support the developers of whatever game I'm playing. *Gasp*

I agree ....I've never had an issue with the cost of playing any game ...my issue has been paying for half finnished crap

IS tsw really tht bad? I only ordered it because noone knows when gw2 is comming out! You have to p2p also?

TSW is the best MMO in 10yrs with more advanced combat than GW2. Mind you it is a MMO not action adventure that most people are now use to.

I don't get it. TSW combat is the most boring and linear garbage I have played in a long time. The first zone, you just fight zombies. There are like 4 or 5 mob types that you encounter. Combat on every class is a "WoW rogue point system". Every fight consisted of running in and AoE'ing stuff down, while popping your defensive CD's. Use your finisher/point consuming moves when full. Rinse and repeat.

I fail to see the dynamics and fun of combat. It is another face rolling, button mashing, tank rush in and spam AoE's while getting healed game. I still want to try out the first dungeon, but the combat seems very bland to me so far. Easily, the worst part about the game.

The story and quests seem pretty cool, and I like the voice acting and cut scene stuff. Honestly, the world itself is the best and most immersive part for me. As well as the less hand holdy puzzle like quests and what not. But past that, I don't see what the huge draw is. Maybe I need to get farther into the skill trees to really experiment with stuff. But after a few hours of play, it seems like a lot of the same as far as the combat goes.

I didn't get to try out any PvP yet, as the PvE couldn't hold my attention with how easy and boring it was. I think I have only died one time and have done most of the quests in the first zone. Not challenging enough at all.

Not to mention the game is less polished, releases in 2 weeks, even with the sound not working ... and huge graphics glitches and problems. They can't be serious about releasing in a week are they?

totally agree i could barely stay interested in TSW long enough to even finish the first beta weekend ....and of course i played GW2 not long before that so I had fresh in my mind what combat should be like.  Honestly TSW combat is sub par not just compared to GW2 but compared to MMO combat as a whole.

It's not just the combat ...it's a dead world ,after playing GW2 beta's I'll never be able to play a mmo where NPC's don't move around and simulate a real living world

All I see is subscription licensing and other revenues  @ 298m down from 388m in 2011 for the first quarter ..... Subscription, licensing and other revenues represents revenues from World of Warcraft subscriptions, Call of Duty Elite memberships, licensing royalties from our products and franchises, value-added services, downloadable content, and other miscellaneous revenues.Sorry folks just subtracting the call of Duty Elite memberships @ 2 million just doesn't leave enough money to come anywhere close to 10.2 million playing subs which they state is 2 .

Of course they were the first ones to launch with a 80 million dollar gaming budget now people are trying to follow suit...

But there numbers are dropping and with this lame panda expansion there going to lose alot of hardcore fans don't be surprised if that number drops to 8-9million subscribers... The end of adding 10 levels is certainly near and if they don't change course WoW will be dead before Ultima Online which has been stable for the last 5-6 years...

You're delusional

WoWs subs are always lowest right before an expansion and spike back up when the Xpac is released

I'd like to see real western numbers .....I played from day one to early 2007 and I knew it was growing for the first couple of years but by the time I left well over 90% of the folks I played with had moved on. I'm sure the days of 8-9 million subscribers are well in the past

You are right , lets just hold hands and play Barbie Online ....you bake a cake and I'll bake a pie ....you wash the dishes and I'll wipe them dry

And the reason I keep posting is not to troll, I simply really WANT to like this game... So many others seem to be loving it, and I just don't know what it is about it. If I didn't want to like it, I certainly wouldn't have bought it. Again, it's possible I'm just really burned out I suppose.

We'll you haven't said much positive about any game since 2007 ?.....I can't picture how posting on this forum is going to make you like the game

I agree ..I just think you are being a bit too kind ,I was bored after making my first character .Character Models are the most limit I've seen in amy game since DAoC

Not your fault the entire game is a fatal error .....this game would have been weak sause in 2004 ....in 2012 it's down right insulting to have a game like this charge a sub fee and run a cash shop

if this game had of come out before AOC it would still have been weak ...@ least AOC had 20 good levels .This game will be f2p before Santa arrives

Here's my thing. I see a lot of swtor in this game. My skeptcism stems from playing the competition.  I just don't know if the high fantasy setting could draw me. It may even be a turn off. It's been beat to death.

Let's say I make it past the high fantasy setting, because it's done so well, so now I'm leveling. There I run into another turn off.  Going from 1-80 just seems pointless. I hate leveling. Eight toons in WoW (high fantasy) Three toons in RIFT (high fantasy), one toon in swtor.  I'm sick of it.

Let's say I make it past the setting and the standard leveling, again because setting is  done so well plus I can level while pvping. 2 Weeks later I'm at cap. I continue to run battle grounds and WvWvW, much like I have been for the past two weeks. I'm having a good time.

One month rolls by since I've been at cap. Wtf am I supposed to do now. I've ran a couple hundred battle groumds, and spent 40 hours in WvWvW. i'm now asking myself "Are you getting bored."" As soon as that happens it's all down hill from there.

I'm not the type to be filling hearts and chasing DEs. I'm not really the questing type, plus I wouldn't be rewarded with anything meaningful for rerunning DEs. No gear, no AA, just pets and cosmetic gear.

I just don't see how this game could be fun (that's what it's about, not progression) for longer than two months tops.

I don't know what to tell tell ya. up untill I tried TSW beta I was hoping that would be something folks could fall back on ...now after seeing that piece of crap from failcom I'm hoping to be able to strech out 3 or 4 months with GW2 or there will be no mmo's worth playing in 2012 ..... I've already killed enough Zombies to last a life time and the slow motion combat of TSW is the only modern game I've played slower then LOTR .I've never seen anything like the dodge in TSW ...it's the worst flip  I've seen since a grade 6 gym class perhaps Copper85 we could just spend a couple of months in GW2 dodging things ?

Having intentionally small inventory space is a gimmick of F2P cash shop games. So, who's bags were all full this weekend? Mine were, despite being able to craft bags. The problem is that you can BUY two more bag slots in the CASH SHOP ONLY. I feel bad for people who choose other professions and couldn't even make themselves bags or choose not to craft. Luckly for them, you can buy bags in the cash shop! AHHH!

And if you are a crafter, you have to either keep your crap with you, or store it in your minimal bank space which is kept far away from you in the cities... Oh but like always, the gem shop has a solution for you, instant bank access cash shop items! Intentional? I'm thinking yes.

So far, what's not included in a $60 game is - Convenience, and inventory space that is not intentionally small... Anything else we can add? Maybe the fact that the game is not fixed into making you buy stuff from the cash shop.

Once again remove foot after speaking ....I seem to have a lot of bag room and bank storage , I'm starting to wonder if the op wouldn't be better of trying another game ,his fixation with the cash shop seems to be clouding his thoughts .

So far I like it.  I have not played much during the Betas to avoid burnout.

Your mileage may vary, but there are three things I personally dislike about the WvW:

1.  Autoleveling.  I absolutely hate this.  Gee I'm level 1...poof now I'm max level... poof now I'm back to level 1.   Silly mechanic that makes the game feel less like an RPG and more like a FPS.

2.  NON-persistant WvW.  2 weeks is just a long duration battleground.  One of the things I loved about DAoC is how I developed relationships wth the enemy.   I got to know many of them by name and reputation and some became particular targets on the battlefield.  Now we just get random red invader #1452 who will be gone in a few days.

3.  Non unique factions.   Because the servers fight each other, there is nothing unique about each side.  I used to love the fact that Alb-Mid-Hib all had unique classes, races and skills.  Sure it caused lots of complaining about balance but if I want balance I'll go play a team-match 5v5.

the 2 weeks thing bugs me, why mess with the pairings every two weeks if they are fairly balanced.  I get having it for emergency use, but not every 2 weeks as a matter of course.

BUT,  the real killer for me in comparison to DAOC is the Anominity in PVP.  How can you build rivalry if you don't know who you are fighting?

The other 2 dont bother me too much.  In fact 1 I can see lots of advantages for and 3 well it makes things easier to balance and it reduces development costs.

You are missing the point ....take a step outside of the box . This is going to be ranked WvW eventually we'll have top tiered servers fighting on a regular bases with all the servers having a rank . No more crap where the Hibs from server Little Pond can lay claim to being the best because every 2 weeks they are going to have to put up or shut up . I haven't a clue who was the best pvper's in Daoc or Shadowbane or even Wow were , but in GW2 I'm going to be able to look at a list of ranked  servers and I'll know who is number #1

Trust me I'll bet in a few months the top servers will know who thier rivals are ...sorry to folks who like to pve for thier pvp titles where grinding produced rank here you have to win.

Yea was a barrel of fun in DAoC where the nerf bat hit every two weeks ....I'm not that interested in waiting 3 years untill some sort of balance is reached ...I'd tolerated that in 2002 because I didn't know any better but it's unacceptable in 2012
