But sadly it couldn't keep me playing.

The lack of progression, and the forcing to use specific weapon skills from 1 to 80 got me bored.

Hated that I prefer greatsword look, but I hate the spells.

Not once has Anet begged for money ....my new standard for supporting and enjoying a game

No not really. The GW2 community is one of the worst that I have ever seen. There really is little to no communication. There is no reason to communicate. I would say that it is me if I was the only one saying that, but there are tons of posts on many different sites that all say the same thing. Where there is smoke, there is fire.  That is my 2 cents at any rate......

I communicate with players each time I play, and I don't mean guild mates in guild chat, but random people I encounter in the wilderness. Many people are able to socialize even when not forced to by game mechanics. You not communicating doesn't make the community bad... don't blame the others when the problem comes from you.

Imagine that... you go in a Pub, have a drink, but you sit in a dark corner on your own, while people all over the place are talking, laughing, strangers meeting other strangers at the bar, socializing. And then you leave the Pub, and tell everybody you know that this is the worst place ever, the people are so unfriendly and never socialize. That wouldn't make sense. Same thing for your inability to socialize in GW2.

And other people, on other sites... yeah sure. All the WoW clone players who are unable to socialize when not forced into groups and raids by the game mechanics, and who think bashing mobs in a group for purple trinkets is the highest form of socialization in a MMORPG.

People have been molded into that way of thinking by the EQ/WoW clones. Can't do anything without a reward at the end, not even talking to other people. So sad.

So you are saying that GW2's community is better than EQ's? Did you play EQ? Just asking. I talk to people too in the game. The problem is that there is no need to talk and not really that much to talk about when relating to the game. The mechanics are simple, and it really is designed for casuals. It doesn't matter if a player sucks since there is no real death penalty and one can just run back or wait to be rezzed. Most content can be taken down in a rez / zerg fest without any real thought. A game wide auction house makes all resources readily available. Not that it is a bad thing. It just doesn't foster a real strong community.  I am not saying GW2 is a horrible game, it just isn't a very good social one. Your argument of the pub is like comparing apples to oranges and holds as much weight as the you're playing it wrong one.....

My Pub argument is actually spot on. Just like in a Pub or a Bar, or any other public place, in GW2 you are not forced to socialize, it's up to you to make contact with others.

And yes, I played EQ. The communities of UO, AC1 and GW2 are WAY better than the EQ one, there's no contest for me. Simply because social contact is by the player's choice, and not forced by game mechanics. I just don't believe in friends being forced to be my friends, and my quite long experience with online games pre and post MMORPG era prove me right. Real friends, and real community, are people who enjoy your company, not people who stay with you in order to get better loot because there's no other choice.

If it works for you then great. There are a whole lot of people that see it differently. You can't attribute all of those posts to WoW/EQ crybabies. And by the way, a community is more than saying hello or goodbye.... It is about making a reputation... making a name. It is about friendships and working together. It is about Bob the Crafter or Amy the Healer. GW2 just lacks a lot of the things to create that environment. Don't get me wrong, GW2 isn't a bad game. It just isn't a good community game...... at least not for me.

I don't think it has anything to with the game be it GW2 ,TSW or any game in the future ...I think it's the way MMO's have evolved ,folks just don't socialize in game like they once did . Many folks have cross game guilds now so moving to a new game isn't where you start meeting folks but a place where you continue gaming with your circle of friends . Guilds have crafters you already know and trust ,any solution to a puzzel or quest is found on line ...word of mouth isn't used to find solutions , game mechanics don't force social contact . This is the way of the experienced MMORPG gamer , unless you set out to play a game as a RP expect less social contact not more

btw maybe it has the worst AI of mobs i have ever seen in mmo's.

I couldn't  level anywhere close to 40 in this game ...I just found it too childish to play , perhaps it would have been a good starter MMO but 12 years too late for me

For every person who thinks a LFG tool is an important feature....there is another person that thinks a LFG tool is just a crutch  for the socially handicappped twitch society gamer .

And for every one of those people there is another thinking that anyone that believes sitting in a town continually saying LFG for an hour is a socially handicapped 56kbps modem gamer that apprently would rather be standing around doing nothing instead of actually logging in and playing the game right away.

Wrong track ....we use to have things called guilds (where you use to do things with your friends ) being socially handicapped is where you are so selfish that logging in and playing the game right away is the only thing you understand . To be honest I'd at least give someone that tried for a group in a town the benefit of the doubt , LFG just strikes me as a tool used by someone so selfish they can't even take the time to make  friends

You realise that "Very High" Is actually Accounts made ( Accounts that have that server as their home server). Not how many people playing at one time.

So Very High doesn't mean there is a near full amount of people playing on the server at one time, but how many accounts there are on that server. Counting both inactive and active accounts. A "High" Server could have half of it's players inactive.

Actually it does take into account people playing since it fluctuates on servers depending on the hour of the day.

As for where everyone is, check Rata Sum around the SAB box, wayfarer foothills or diessa plateau that's where the living story is happening now (at least on Yak's Bend it's not uncommon for those two areas to get overflow), queensdale (human starter area) specially on the swamp where the shadow behemoth spawns.

Personally, playing on Yak's Bend at least, around 9 to 12 pm venezuelan time during the week, I have seen LA less populated than. saw, late last year, but I've also seen the rest of the world much more populated. I guess it makes sense considering that back then the big thing that was added was the fractals, and you had to be on LA to do them.

Actually your both wrong :S IT's already been stated by a person of the Anet team that it's based off account made on the server, I can get the actual quote to show you.

If you can find a dev or someone official saying otherwise then i'll believe that, but if u both say well off my own experience or other peoples then your both wrong. The Anet team have already made it clear what "Very High" means and the fluctuations are people transfering, people deactivaing and new accounts. The flucuations are Guilds moving due to WvWvW if you pay attention to the WvWvW Forums on the official site you would see this.

Please do.....I haven't seen the statement from the Anet team

Here's the link to the thread where a member of the Anet team replied. https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/gw2/Server-Populations/first

Here's a copy and paste of what they said.

Hello everyone.

Connor, when you see a server FULL means that the people who’ve chosen that server as theirs, or players who have moved to that particular server, have reached the cap, independently of where did they create their accounts.

Answering to your second question: no, there is no chart that shows that kind of information at the moment, I am afraid.

Actually it say's the amount of accounts on a server ....I don't imagin there is anywhere near as many moving now that free transfers are over but 4 months ago when this post was made indeed wvwvw server skipping was an issue

?? I'm kind of confused with statement .....I don't see any difference in the way people play GW2 today then any game I've played since DAOC . To be totally honest about lasting power besides WOW which lost it's appeal in 2007 for me GW2 seems to be of more intrest still to me then any other mmo since WOW's hayday . If GW2 isn't an MMO please tell this poor gamer what game is a real MMO ? I mean there must be some MMO out there where all the cool hardcore kats like yourself hang out ..just I haven't been able to find it in 14 years

For better or worse, MMO players have come to expect a proper LFD-system on release as a basic feature. So I disagree with your statement.

GW2 does have a LFG tool.  The fact it was made by the community and not Anet means little.

It works great.  It fills the need for that function, leaving Anet to focus on other things.

The statement refers to what GW2 gives and thus implying to what Arenanet implemented in GW2, not what the community did.

Whereas most MMOs are designed around long-term progression, GW2 is very much focused on short-term, easy to jump in experiences. I guess that makes it very friendly for casual players, where as the hardcore MMO players miss the mechanics that reward them for their dedication.

Let's fix this for you :

Where as most MMO's are designed around long-term gear grind progression , GW2 is very much focused on skill based advancement where your actual playing skills are more important then the gear you wear .I guess this makes GW2 friendly to casual players because advancement just requires skill improvement ,where as the hardcore MMO player likes to depend on the gear grind mechanics that rewards them for the time spent (better gear) not for the skills they develop and use .

you know this thread is proveing one thing GW2 is the new WoW.

i dont mean numbers, or top MMO, or anything like that.

it is being hated on and defended with absolutly no logic or proof behind any of the statements, just like WoW has always been.

All games are bashed like that here, and on most badly moderated forums too. It's not specific to WoW or GW2, even though their success makes them a favorite target.

Some people just seem to only enjoy feeding on hatred, and only have fun when they pee in other people's cheerios. Specially when safely hidden behind a computer screen, and safe of any kind of direct retaliation, so they can behave like that and try to ruin other people's fun without any risk of consequences.

It's the forum game. Some are here to talk about the game they enjoy, and others are here just to disrupt that enjoyment instead of minding their own business and go play games they actually enjoy. And some are just zealots (just like real life zealots we see in the news everyday) who think that because they don't enjoy something, nobody should, and that there's only one way to have fun in a video game, so they come back over and over again to bore us with their "truth".

+1 sometimes people hit the nail right on the head ...well said Captain

Though out of the 30 people i know that got it (including me) 24 out ouf 30 of those people regret there purchase, 12 out of those 24 refunded the game and all 30 out of those 30 including me quit the game before the end of 2012.

The more you post the better your story gets ,,,,in 2015 you'll be able to change these numbers  to 960 out of a 1000 and all quit within 2 hours

Yeah, the article itself is really quite silly. Diablo 3 we all know is a rather poor game for its genre. Minecraft can just as easily be sold on Mac and Guildwars 2, yeah, its not that stunning of a selling for call as a 'key contributor', I mean Mists of Pandoria outsold it a good deal I'm pretty sure and yet it wasn't mentioned.

I'll go let that article writer on some site I've never heard of have fun with apparently his three favorite games and neglecting to really give any proof to something that is virtually impossible to prove.

MoP outsold GW2 by a good deal?  I've been looking for those figures.  Can you post a link?

Did this never get an answer ?......I mean there must be some proof . Just saying

It's patch day and I spent all day trying to discover just what they fixed over there. Nothing apparently, which is pretty much par for the course at this point for engineers. So in lieu of today's patch notes, please enjoy this video showing the short history up to today of how Arenanet has handled balance in their title since launch.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c

So let's get this straight :

1) You don't like the engineer

2)You don't like the Trading Post

3)You don't like crafting

4) You don't like the games economy

5)You don't like the loot for DE's map completions or worlds bosses

6)You don't like the personal story

7)You don't like ascended gear

8)You don't like wvwvw

9)You don't like dungeons

10)You don't like Anet's management

Perhaps mmo's aren't your calling ?

If I look at these add on this site and on other gaming sites, I have to wonder why every MMO is suddenly catering to the Xbox pansy demographic of gamers. Can we get a real MMORPG for adults that takes RPG serious and makes a dangerous world.

I don't want maps, I don't want quest markers, I don't want tutorials, I don't want twitch gameplay, I don't want solo play, I want a real MMO that makes me feel like I'm in danger if I don't find help. Bring on the naked corpse runs, bring on the grind.

I thought the WoW plague was bad for the gaming industry, how wrong I was after I tried Guild Wars 2 and Tera, that's the real plague.

Can we get our PC games back, PC gamers are the master race, why is everyone turning into sissies too affraid to accept a challenge.

"REAL MEN " don't play MMO's

It's funny people claiming that GW2 is empty.  With that logic, so is WoW.  Go make a new character on a realm and you'll see.  Servers listed as New Players don't count either, since they are funneled there.

It's a known fact that starter zones tend to be less populated after the initial hype, and even so, this isn't even the case in GW2.

Being a fanboy in this case, do not help. The top 3 servers in gw2 have a good population, but thats not the case with all the servers were they really have population issues, but since you have to pay to transfer is GG and Anet win.   The server status do not help also, since only Anet know how that really works, i mean, u can play in a Very heavy server but ingame is pretty much a wasteland.

Reading your post has me asking some questions ....How can you say so much wrong in only five lines?

What are the top three servers ?

Why do you have to pay to transfer anywhere when you can guest ?

How long since you actually played the game ?

Did you actually ever play GW2?

Why do you post about something you have no knowledge about ?

What servers are a wastland ?

Then there are the 3 skill weapons of Sword Axe and Dagger with 3 off-hand 2 skill items. All of these provide yet more VERY DIFFERENT options. Hell, sword with warhorn offers a great DPS + group buff option that vastly helps the group.

Either way, thats 39 different SKILLS to choose from, not including traits...you throw in Healing Spring and you can provide your group with EVERY aspect...DPS, off tank, CC, heals.

As for your ending comments...are you saying games like WoW didnt make you get different armor sets for different builds?!? Cause you did...it would be crazy if GW2 allowed you to swap out roles without also needing the different gear to do it effectively.

But the problem with that is that these "skills" overlap.  Sword and Axes have the same damage abilites the animation and weapon might be different.  There is no point using both as they overlap.  So saying "different" is not actually true.

Another thing about GW2 combat as I said before is the lack of conditional abilities.  If a person is running away you are limited in what you can do.  In other games I can name half a dozen things you can do to slow down, stop, or catch up to the person running away.  Even in terms of CC, they removed the depth and choice other MMOs have.

I fear TESO will follow the same path, hopefully not.

I know what I will do.  Today I will criticize a game that I know very little about.  I will make broad, sweeping statements about how bad the combat is.  Does it matter that I dont know what I'm talking about?   Not at all.

Nope, nothing could possibly go wrong.

Reason why this forum needs moderators who actually PLAY the game they moderate the forums of, so they can easily detect the nonsense spewing trolls and eliminate them. But that's a dream, won't happen.

+1 for the thought ,,,,I guess that's the reason most folks that enjoy playing a game spend most of their time in the official forums

Too late, should have done it earlier on. There are games that do culling well, and then there are games like GW2 that didn't do it well. They can't figure it out so they're taking it out completely I guess.

Most games don't need culling anyways ....besides the initial month that starts a game I haven't seen a game since WOW and now GW2 that had enough of a population to warrant anything but a cross server LFG .
