It's amazing to me too. I think it's one of those things where people got so hyped about the thing that they just can't let go. When they don't deliver its time to move on imo. And that's what happened to me. Got tired of the vaporware bs they kept adding you know where it's for 1 month and then poof it's gone and the stuff they add can all be completed in a single day.

Nothing permanent you know, like they said they'd do prelaunch AND after people complained initially that they were ignoring the open world because their only additions were holiday stuff that was equally temporary and did nothing to the world.

But people seem to love spending money in their shop, thats the other reason why i left, absolutely nothing could be earned solo, you had to do something with a guidl for everything. Couldn't farm solo either, god forbid someone actualyl gets something more then a silver for their day's work in a game.

Just tired of people fooling the masses is all.

This aside of all of the problems with PVE balance class bugs etc etc etc and it's almost the anniversary.

I'm also leery now of NCsoft. I don't want to put a clowd of gloom over wildstar but we'll see what people say about that especially when it comes to the economy.

Sorry but that bit about not being able to earn anything solo is incredibly false.  Sure you don't like the game, but you don't have to deliberately say things that aren't true.  Either that or you're just bad, but either way, I find it ironic that you're tired of people "fooling the masses", when you attempt to fool people right in the same post by comparing YOUR experiences to EVERYONE's.  Literally everyone I play with can solo farm.

A silver for a day's work?  LOL  And people wonder where the phrase "you're playing it wrong" came from.

I disagree ...I understand he tried to play an engineer and finding that class beyond his scope of playing skills the facts are he couldn't farm anything solo and perhaps only earned a silver a day

I really feel GW2 if it wants to add content it has to actually give worth wild content to do, not just little 'events'. Having additional activities added to the normal stuff the game has gives something to enjoy. Give people that variety, change it up from just 'event: Kill this, kill that, finish event'. How about some interesting puzzles? Perhaps a special Rock Paper Scissor mini game to play with friends? Its really easy, even the smallest bit of flare can help give a sense of having more to the game and can fill in that time leaving players feeling less like they are getting practically nothing.

I enjoyed the game for the levling process, I know I've been negative lately but like Dontain said you become invested in a game when you buy it and the people who speak negatively about a game aren't always people who just hate it just to hate the thing.

I don't hate the game I don't have the devs, I do think the ratio between what's wrong and what's right is way too skewed. There's so much wrong now nothing short of a major game patch or an expansion (I wouldn't pay for one unless they removed alot of problems open world pveers face) is going to fix it.

And people keep saying be patient, you know what, we've been plenty patient, it's almost the anniversary now. The time of patience is well beyond gone, it's time for them to pony up with what they told us this game would be, otherwise it really is a strong case for a bait and switch trial. That's how bad it is. LS was admitedly an experimentation on their part not an actual fix to the problem of them ignoring the open world content for 8 months. Anyone who claims otherwise is not being honest. That's on top of the minigames and activities not being added (those promised and those that have been ignored entirely).

For example. If they had actually delivered on their promise and just put forth 10 new DE's and 1 meta a month that would have been a huge score of content. They could do it too, they have the means, according to them doing DE's and metas were quick cheap and easily spit out in their system of putting together content like that. They even said it was faster then any dungeon building process. Add to that the huge profits they're supposedly making gotta ask yourself uhm where's the content? it certainly isn't this LS crap!

Then i suggest moving on.  If your patience is gone, and you feel this game will never improve, then why keep dwelling on it?  I don't visit the Lotro, AoC, Aion, or EQ2 forums anymore, because i've moved on, and i know those games will never improve to my own satisfaction.  You should do the same, otherwise your opinions will always be negative, and just like in real life, people don't like being around negativity.

+1 to this post ...it's time to move on 6 months of crying is enough

but what about adding real core content... New zones with totally new dynamic events and lore, more personal stories (or just stories for everyone to play and enjoy) more truely new dungeons.

That's exactly what they've added. A new zone with new events and lore, more solo instances with cutscenes a new permanent dungeon and a temporary dungeon. In six days we're getting even more DEs, another new dungeon, more story content and some other stuff.

Were you expecting a new zone every month or something? Making a zone is a lot of work.

No I think he means high lvl end zone where players actually spend time at lvl 80+ and dungeon that gives new armor and weapon set :)

zone/dungeon are not same as real zone/dungeon :)

Since the game isn't a gear grind anyways ...not sure why he'd be looking for new armor and weapon set unless he just wants a new look /

Are there folks still stupid enough to support sub fee games ?.....It's one thing to get burned once or twice (perhaps 25 times ) but come on folks smell the roses monthly sub fees are nothing but a scam and money grab .I can except some folks just don't know the difference and a monthly fee seems a lot better then F2p with a cash shop ....but GW2 just proves we've been scammed since day one into believing a sub fee was needed for a good game and new content on a regular basis .

You do realize that the $15/mo subs are only a fraction of what they're counting as subs, yes? They include the asian time cards where people play for pennies per hour even though they're not subscriptions in the sense we're used to. So that & mil. plus number is a bit exaggerated. Not that that's highly relevent, just a point of fact.

GW2 is actually slowly climbing in player base during the peroid most MMOs face declines.

It is a fact that GW2 is contunually making improvements. Can't say how many circles Blizzard is running around in since I quit WoW before Cataclysm.

WoW's sub numbers are very exaggerated.. I had 2 WoW accounts active at any given time when I played.. Most of my friends and family also had at least 2 active WoW accounts, and that's not including the month where they decided to create other new accounts just to get that stupid mount, or give other characters instant level 80.. So, I'd wager the 8 or so million subscribers they have are really maybe 2 million "actual people",, and that's just a guess...

8 years later, most mmorpg's wouldn't have 90% of the playerbase WoW still has today... Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, that's very impressive..

As for Guild Wars 2,,,,, I remember how most people overhyped the game so much, their expectations were to high for it to live up to.. I beta tested GW2, and I even bought it.. I was hoping to see some improvements, but unfortunately the game just wasn't interesting enough to me,, not like Ultima Online, Everquest, DAOC, or WoW was.. GW2 was never even in the same league as those games, and in my honest opinion, I don't believe it will ever live up to the legendary status of those 4 games..

GW2 was released just 8 months ago.. It's still technically a new game... At launch it did very well, then 60% of the people who bought the game quickly realized how uninteresting and dull the game is.. What did they do?? They left to go back to other games like WoW, or chose to play something else.. Why?? Because most f2p MMO's aren't on the same level as P2P MMO's.. F2P MMO's are nothing more than a quick rollercoaster ride that ends fast.. But there are some people out there who do enjoy riding those rollercoasters again and again until they throw up, lol.. It will happen for them too,, but it takes a little longer for them to realize their stomach can't handle anymore of the same monotonous ride.. :/

With that said, comparing a legendary game like WoW to GW2 is like comparing oatmeal to a 7 course dinner filled with Lobster, Steak, Turkey, Ham, etc etc etc..

The numbers don't lie.. WoW started fairly well, then began to grow and grow after each month.. Whereas, GW 2 started fairly high and in under a year lost 60% of it's original playerbase... I'm sorry, but that's not good,, and I'm not very good at math, lol..

Weak at math but good at BuLLSHit?.....I don't give a flying fiddlers crap about anyones opinion but pulling a number out of your ass like 60% or 90% just sucks the big one ....By the way  a 7 course dinner isn't a meal filled with Lobster Steak Turkey Ham ect ect  ....that's called a buffet  . I'm sorry but life under the bridge must be tough and that's just my honest opinion

I don't even have a GW2 account and i am getting these e-mail. I did have a GW for a while but didn't get into the game. the sad part is, i can make a support ticket but i have a feeling that it will not go anywhere. so i am trying to figure out how they got my information.

They don't have your information untill you give it to them

I won't follow links in emails unless I am positive about the validity of the email. Maybe I better look into it more before something happens to my account. I think I'll change my password right after a format on my gaming rig.

Come on folks Anet isn't going to send you an email telling you they think you are trying to sell your account .... Anyone who bit on that and gave away their password deserves to loose a lot more than just a game account

They have been on the decline since 2007 ....it just takes some folks 6 more years to realize that

I won't pay a sub for any game from now on ....it's B2P or nothing sub games are a rip off

For me, Vanilla WoW had more base leveling content than any game to date.  It took me 4 characters, 2 alliance 2 horde, just to see all of the leveling content and quests and zones.  That alone took me about a year.  By that time the game had added battlegrounds, dungeons, raids and so on and I was all set to delve into the endgame play.

Compare this to GW2 where I did everything on 1 character in 2 weeks.  Literally everything, map, story, crafting, gear dungeons ran at least once, pvp all in 2 weeks.  All of the content added since launch in GW2 has had me come back for a total of 2 days.  And that's being generous.  For me the issue is GW2 not having a carrot on the stick to chase and no it doesn't have to be just gear.  I just feel no sense of progression and playing alts is boring as hell.

That being said, I like the game I just want it to be deeper, bigger and have more progression systems that are rewarding and not just for the "fun" of doing them as I don't find that fun in a game like GW2.

This is laughable.  There is no way you could complete everything in 2 weeks.

A better statement should have been,  "I did the things that i wanted to do within the game.", which would be acceptable.

  • You tried the crafting system, but you didn't try all the crafting professions.
  • You tried 1 character combination, but you didn't try all the race/class combinations, which in turn, gives you different stories.
  • You tried all dungeons, but did you try all the paths for each dungeon on explorable mode?
  • You forgot to add jumping puzzles, open-world dungeons, literally hundreds of dynamic events, etc.
We all know your dislike for GW2, but that's ok, because i dislike some aspects of it too, but your statement that you did "literally everything", is a lie.
I'm playing semantics here, but you should be able to get my point.  I've been playing WoW since launch (and still do occasionally), but i would never claim i've did everything in that game, even to this date.

Edit:  Re-read Homitu's original post.  It lists everything about MMOs in general, and that's they evolve over time.  It's a good post and should show people that content is always being added, so in truth, MMOs are never complete, but they compete for the user's time.

Some folks need to kill 10,000 bears to develope  their skills others need to kill only 10 bears to do the same ....repetition isn't content it's just boring

So you would enjoy raiding if there wasn't any rewards? No loot. No gear progression?

Yes I would. Gear progression is such a small part of it. Most raiders I know don't play for the gear. Sometimes I think some of you have never been in a "good" raiding guild with skilled players. I also like the organization of a good guild. I am a former military guy and I like playing defined roles in large fights with everyone having their own responsibilities and contributing to the team effort. What is so hard to understand about that?

Bullshit ...Raiders and gear progression are the same as Seagulls and garbage

Oh it broke away alright. It took MMOs into an even crappier direction. We had WoW gives us tank charging through dungeons, now with GW2 everyone tries to zerg every boss like a Keep Lord. Forget the adds or the intended mechanics, just ZERG ZERG ZERG. Because of this, future MMO's are going to have to make healers less healy and tanks less tanky and make everyone equally capable of DPS. I'm afraid GW2 broke the trinity, and any sense of strategy in MMOs, most likely forever.

It's a dying genre, commercial success and art are two different things. When crappy media sells it doesn't mean a media or art is still doing good, it just means there are that many stupid people out there supporting bad products if they stroke their ego enough.

There will be a few titles that try to be more traditional, but as they fail, we'll never see them again.

I'm confused ....are 5 man runs now zergs ?

Why do these threads always end up with insecure people terrified they aren't playing the "#1" game anymore, and other people antagonizing them.

Warcraft is still #1 guys. 2.5 million people can't be wrong.

Also means 11.5 million folks moved on from WOW ....kind of makes you wonder if they can't be wrong ?

The game is balanced FOR PvP, which makes certain classes in PvE (rangers especially)  a bit underpowered.

In sPvP, rangers are quite good though. The only classes I can't really find a place for in sPvP are the necromancer and engineer. The warrior, which is amazing in PvE, is just mediocre in PvP.

I am working on an axe/shield + GS build for my PvP warrior, but the game almost requires a ranged wep in PvP

Well I am a PvP player...

But when I see my Guardian getting one shotted by a Thief, and I am wearing plate... I think there's a little unbalance in play.

I"ve never been one shotted by anyone

Yes you are ...

1: It was fun in the beginning but I must warn you, if you plan on playing a ranger necromancer or engineer do yourself a favor and don't make any other class otherwise you'll notice a huge disparity between how some classes just faceroll and how some have serious bugs design flaws they never fixed.

2: As one of the most casual gamers I left this title because they didn't provide ample open world end game progression. There are Metas to free temples and to fight large dragons however the timers on them are poorly designed to get ready to spend an hour waiting on a dragon to land AFTER the time the system says it's coming with no indicator. The other thing that bothered most of us was how they completely nerfed the loot in the game, sure they have a daily rare guaranteed but if you truly are a casual gamer and not a dungeoneer you'll notice that nothing drops anything larger then a green for the most part, even the harder to kill Champion mobs you'll encounter so making money and/or gathering materials for the gear you need will be very difficult outside of a single dungeon called FotM or WvW which is pvp zone. If you like those things then you shouldn't call yourself casual.

3: Questing to get to max level was extremely fast, I liked it. I didn't like the VO's where you're just standing there with one dude with a weird background while the guy made weird faces while talking. I thought that was a cheapening experience for the story and the talking was like reading a book on radio instructions is was so boring and emotionless. Dungeons still do not have a LFG tool. Add to that the recent bigotry towards certain classes or whether or not you have a certain type of armor on before you join a dungeon group and you've got a less then pleasant experience. Also, most people have already done the story versions of the dungeons and most likely will not want to do them, but they are required to do the explore versions so you might find yourself stuck unless you are lucky and find a really good guild (most of which would have left the game by now I would suspect).

4: some say WvW is fun some say it's boring. I didn't like it because I'm a casual pve player. I further hated that all of the meaningful end game loot was either in WvW or in the single dungeon called FotM so if you needed to farm you had to go into the WvW area to do so and they have roaming bands of gankers who do nothing all day except find people who are alone and gank. Yeah that's always fun >.> Trust me you'll be doing an enormous amount of farming in this game.

5: If you're talking about Laurels it will most likely take you about 10-16 months to get the max gear available. If you're talking exotics (tier 6 whereas tier 7 is ascended) it's much shorter and you can mixmatch exotics (there are sets but for most that wasn't as important as the stats or "enchantments" tho you'll need some gold if you are going to get the gear you need from the crafted versions which is the fastest way, and most likely you'll run into the same problems most people have where gold was a very big issue due to Arenanet's newly implemented in Nov 2012 penny economy where you earn pennies but everything costs 100 bills.

6: Not sure if they are planning an expansion this year. I still frequent their forums on the off chance they might have actually come to their senses and listened to their fanbase finally fixing many an item that caused alot of people to leave this game. Don't let the server load indicators fool you full doesn't mean what it should and often even tho the server says full it's usually got a whole bunch of accounts there but no one can really say when the last time people logged in really was, their accounts can just be sitting there taking up virtual space and they haven't logged in since Nov 2012. :)

Hope my honesty was refreshing.

Actually it's not honest accurate or refreshing ...but to each their own

Smart ...took a great RvR game and ruined it with piss poor pve (Dark Age of Camelot)...developed a WOW killer RVR game (Warhammer) and ruined it with piss poor pve and pvp . Anyone else starting to see a trend here ?.....Smart

what is the reason CU is not B2P ?? Not sure if I should back a subscription only MMO which locks me out when I'm not constantly paying every month

If you can't afford more than one sub in 5 or 6 years time ...I have the feeling playing a MMO is the last of your problems to worry about

As you all can imagine  Ihavent played it for very long as this demo started yesterday, so this is naturally based on the early levels of the game.

Well..I'm not sure where all the glowing reviews come from , but for me this game felt very bad, cheasy and simply uninspired..

From remembering the countless complains about The Secrets Worlds poor combat and animations, wich I never felt that they were bad, but this combat that is almost the same type but with fantasy weaponry feels like super bad when you compare them. I get  feeling the combat simply is not connecting to the enemies enough..

Furthermore , I get the feeling my character doesn't blend in well in the enviorments, It feels almost as she's cut and pasted ontop of a postcard or something.

The outdoor and vistas are nice looking thou, but alas they are not going to give me a reason enough to go explore the world when the rest of the game feels cheasy and uninspired.

I'm glad I didnt shell out the 60 Euros needed to try this.

TSW is by all counts a far greater product, even TRIONS new Defiance and even RIft feels better than this game.

Game on !! :))

I think you downloaded Tera by mistake ...try moving and combat at the same time
