As long as you don't need to do Pve to be competitive in pvp it's all good.

Man, I really hated WoW for that.

Thanks!

Just make an account, no key is needed for the trial.

does that count?

That hit the nail, definitely the one singular thing that I have always hated about MMOs - the feeling of freedom without actual freedom.

One of things to love about WAR, no need for stupid PVE progression.

  • Game engine performance is great now.
  • Class balance is much better than it was.
  • Auto-roll system.
  • Tokens which you get from players and you can use to buy rvr sets.
  • Play for fun and you will be fine.

Hope that helps. The expansion was squashed as a false rumor.

They're working to remove the pve elements from city/king fights thankfully as no one in their sane minds wants to fight static mobs ;)

Can't wait for them to show us what 1.3.3 will contain.

Until that I'll join city fights to gank pvers with my WH ;P

All classes are op when played right :)

I wouldn't choose open pvp server for the love of world, it just doesn't work that well in this game and besides do you really like being ganked while doing boring pve stuff? ;)

If you like that, I would suggest Darkfall.

Better mob intelligence

Huh? Wrong forum probably, this is pvp game not pve game.

So... "Better player intelligence" should be the translation.

/sarcasm off

For people that like pvp itself will enjoy the state of the game that WAR currently has, just don't listen to the whiners that played from the day 1, I too started back then and still playing - the game has improved on so many different aspects it's quite incredible - Sadly the T4 is still sort of lackluster but pvp is still there so who cares?

Concentrate on the pvp instead of the rvr campaign and you'll be fine.

Gear choices are quite limited in T1-3 but you will be a lot of different setup possibilities in T4 which is where the game actually begins - journey is fun though and I always enjoy the fun in these tiers, lot of pvp and lot of scenarios without having to worry about the big picture. You will get lot of gear choices still though don't get me wrong in terms of rvr and pve you can go do PQs to get set from there in every tier and same goes for rvr, weapons and offhand items have the same principles.

T4 is fun too, as long as you are 40 and not in a totally gimp gear so you can actually make difference - some classes don't need top-end gear to be successful (tanks, healers) while some are really weak without proper stuff (melee dps).

There's quite plenty of customization in terms of your spec which grows as you level higher:

  • Jewelry slots and set items, there's plenty to be had
  • pvp and pve item sets in every tier
  • pvp influence rewards in every tier and pairing
  • in tier 4 you can start to do pvp set combinations as you get higher renown
  • tier 4 dungeon set items are nice to combine to pvp sets

I think I remember WoW starter gear looking horrid :D

Equip off-hand instead of the 2handed weapon, spec correctly and profit :)

Well played WP is the best RvR healer in the game but I guess it will take some time to get the WoW out of your system so be patient and try to play with the team you have.

For specs and more specific class questions I would go here: www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/forumdisplay.php

Tbh ...I even thought to give WAR a second chance I played game since beta and had tons of fun with it but down for me was that after one year they still didn`t fixed end game and same stupid bugs that were there from day 1 thought to resub but is there any point to go back now imbalanced servers and same old lag ? WOW pvp is a joke and I have never saw more simplified and lamer excuse for pvp and ganking than in WOW I honestly cannot understand how can one shot kill be still called a good pvp but people jsut call anything pvp game this days ......

There is population imbalances but good fights (tm) are still possible in scenarios and sometimes in orvr as well - this is the only balanced pvp game there is.

Good times. :)

The most fun classes to me:

1. Shaman

2. Witch Hunter

3. Slayer

Shaman because of the animations, model, sounds and everything! :D

I would also suggest trying out Squig Herders as they're fun to play as well.

Game hasn't failed, many still play and as long as there is 1 server (there is 10 now I think) there is still hope! ;)

The best part of the game was T1 & T2.  So WAR is actually a great game for player trials.  Early levels you can see most of WAR strength & few of the weaknesses.  I'm glad you're enjoying the game & don't worry so much about what others think.

I quit once I reached T4 because I couldn't deal with various issues:

1)Keep swapping was boring.

2)No such thing as open world PVP when you have those npc guards that unleash the ultra-i-pwn-u 1 hit kills by every town.

3)Battlegrouns are whatever they're called is hit or miss depending on your server.  Some servers it occurs often & it's fun.  Other servers, they rarely pop & you're spending your time doing keep swapping or WAR shitty pve.

4) While I was playing AOE is greater damage to an individual than an aimed ability.  Rain of Fire & Pit of Shades dominated the field.  Everyone else was just in the way.

5) Economy sucks.  AH only accessible through the capital cities & each faction only has one.

6) Once one side dominates & starts getting into your city for gear, the gap between the strong & weak just keeps growing.  Eventually the weak side doesn't even stand a chance in instanced pvp because of the difference in gear.

Ok I'll bite a bit:

1. No more happening as the people that play have high renown ranks and want to push to capitals, it's bloody war now.

2. You mean that you can't gank everyone everywhere, you can play on the Open RVR servers if you like and you still can gank people as they come through the choke points into rvr zones unless they take the long way around or move in groups, but I think it's more fun to kill players that actually fight back or at least try.

3. I can agree on this, but if you are on a good server the scenarios are plenty - especially when the "other" side is pushing for zone lock and you have a meaningful reason to do scenarios thus.

4. No more happening unless you are playing against well geared players while you have junk on you ^^

5. Economy is fine, it's not eve but works as expected and you don't need to grind gold to be able to do pve and pvp - I really hated that in WoW

6. Yes but good fights still, it's war after all - besides server I am on we're underdogs but still push for the other capital once or twice a week or so, it's not the end of the world and the end game needs still a bit of work. Besides the gear can be bought now with pvp tokens instead of doing the city pqs.

Game is in a good shape, if you have been thinking of trying it again, I suggest you do and try to have fun instead of thinking about all the worlds problems.

I would like to see a sandbox game that you can play casually and not fidget around with inventory items, setups and so forth - user friendly one that is enjoyable, I really liked DF combat but death, re-gearing and getting back to field gave me RSI which was exactly same reason I quit EVE, too much fidgeting with excel and no play.

Perhaps we will see a casual sandbox mmo someday that doesn't suck.

I don't like the endgame, but other than that game is great and I absolutely hate PVE so this is all good.

WAR is a great niche game as there is no other like it, it's quite casual even though I have put 77days on my Witch Hunter and 40days on my Bright Wizard I still consider it casual game as you don't have to grind gear every day to be successful in endgame like I had to do in WoW and other silly PVE games like Aion.

Most of the pointers is from 1 year ago, the game is very different now while the thread name suggests that too - so all good :)

You can now play for free in T1 with the Endless Trial -> www.warhammeronline.com/trial/ (US)

I think that's as close you get to free, I guarantee addiction to all who like pvp though so be wary ;)

EU endless trial should start soon as well.

Yeah, I just played the trial and I have to say that I am woefully disappointed in a game whose tabletop equivalent is far superior (even though I just loved painting the models really). It is far worse than WOW, which I have begun to loathe in many different ways, and I have to say that even the F2P game RoM is better than in many ways. Incredibly disappointed!

Table top games will always be superior as there is human interaction, this is just thematically Warhammer not based on the same rule set.

RoM is nice game if you don't like pvp.

This is true on both counts. You know I played RoM for about 2 months and never did get any PvP action at all. Is there any in that game at all...lol?

They have pvp scenarios or something so they can say that "we do pvp" but it's not balanced and has no meaning in the game as the focus of the game is pve.

Very few pvp games out there when you think about it and still a lot of people would like to have one that is good and proper, WAR was about to turn the boat around when they were hit with layoffs, let's hope they can keep up the momentum and get more subs.

I'll keep subbing until SWTOR and hope that my few $$$'s mean that SWTOR doesn't have pve focus.

Well we have to wait for official word but it might not be as bad as it sounds as it might only affect marketing and people that do not write actual code as in removing middle management and such.

Not good though, layoffs are never fair but such is the way of capitalism.

Yea, performance improvements were great stuff, lot of people have come back after those.
