Ancient, has the above all been posted on the Alganon/QOL forums? I mean, if you were to post that over there, would they just tie you up, throw you in a box and toss you into the ocean? I guess I should define "they." By "they" I mean, would the developers/Tork etc. take such a post to heart? (Nevermind the community, I don't think they would like this too much.) I had such high hopes for Alganon, and your list pretty much summarizes my main problem with this game: the abysmal tech and implementation behind it. Your list perfectly describes why this game is effectively an alpha which makes the above easily forgivable (they can fix it in beta, etc.) But it launches in a week. I don't care, at all, about the WoW clone whinefests. If it's a good, stable, polished game with its own story, then have at it. But this...this clusterfrak of issues just seems like the OP's title is coming true before our eyes and no one can stop it no matter how loud we yell. Ah well. Guess it's wait and see time... :-( |

Place ya bets! Next MMO to shut down

Alganon, soon after it's release. With any luck it will not make it to release and we won't have to continue to listen to the Alganon community say how nothing matters except that we all believe in the game... |

Thread derail: DA has been released for what, 3 weeks? And you guys have finished it? That translates into an average of what, 6-8 hours per day? Dang. Back in the day, I could do that. Ah well. Glad someone is getting to enjoy this game. (Yep, I'm jealous.) |

This game is everything Alganon should have been!
General Discussion « Allods Online 11/16/09 8:53:30 PM
Title says it all. Alganon is a huge disappointment on so many levels it's already been discussed to death on their forums. Not sure why, but I got into Allods almost to escape Alganon's pending disaster (anyone seen 2012? We might as well say that is Alganon.) Allods in closed beta is light years beyond Alganon which is supposed to launch December 1st. Anyway everything is in place for Allods to offer something new and good.

Maybe honest, but still brutal. I had much the same experience as the OP; I could not often get past the loading screens or they timed out. Once in game it was like playing a pre-alpha. I badly wanted Alganon to be something more than it is. I don't care about something being a WoW clone. But pre-alpha is NOT the way to release a game. If it was stable and polished (and had a decent amount of content, which it will not at launch) and had most of its promised new features (also which it will not at launch), I would have subscribed without a question and damn the torpedoes, as well as the WoW clone talk. Sign me up! I'm sorry but I have to draw the line when something is pre-alpha & they are asking us to buy the game for $40 plus a monthly sub. Get it out of pre-alpha, and get those unique features in there. Unfortunately it doesn't look like that will happen by launch. It's too bad, because most of the right ideas seem to be there, including a good community. R.I.P. Alganon. If you rise from the dead and surprise us all, more power to ya... |

(Support) Whould you like Alganon to be Pushed back Longer?

Originally posted by tro44_1 OP. You are missing the point entirely. They are not saying the game needs polish. They are saying, it's past the point of no return, and no amount of polish is going to do any good. Let me rephrase that again: they are not saying the game needs polish. They are saying that its design and vision are fundamentally failures. They are saying, the game needs to start over from the drawing board. They are saying, it doesn't matter when it is released. Not because the game is a technical and business failure (although currently it is that too) but because it suffers from lack of something essential to MMOs if not most other entertainment & business ventures: vision and planning. I'm not even saying I necessarily agree with them. I believe David Allen and the Alganon team do have a vision for a great game. I think they are severely lacking in the planning and execution of said vision. But as to your question, I'm saying you can't spin this positive, because most of the other posters in this thread don't agree with your premise to begin with.

Just can't figure out why a vaporware title is listed in the Top Voted games under development section of the MMORPG homepage. Reality really is stranger than fiction... |

Here ya go fellas: http://www.mmorpg.com/giveaways.cfm/offer/118/Allods-Online-Closed-Beta-1-Keys.html I think they had 2500 keys for starters & it was down to around 1000 last I checked. Good Luck!

This thread: QFT. :-) I too was in the beta, and I'm absolutely the most easygoing MMO gamer when it comes to giving the benefit of the doubt. I think if this game was in a finished beta state, I would be telling posters to forget their WoW clone talk and just enjoy the game. But, and I want to make sure any new players understand this, it's in an alpha state. You won't get the community on the Alganon forums to admit it, and I don't need to re-list all of the server side issues in this post. But December 1st will most likely be a launch of a game in mid-beta phase. I guess even that would be enough, but $40 plus $15 a month subscription? I thought the ideas on the Alganon site were outstanding. The in-game Library alone was enough to get my interest. But they needed to craft something that A) was at least somewhat more original in terms of UI than what they have produced and B) was MUCH more technically stable than the unplayable alpha state the game is in now. Yes. Many testers will say "I can play Alganon just fine." But when you have JUST as many who can't even login (15 min wait times) what does that say about readiness for launch? Hopefully in a year, this game will still be alive, then we can (hopefully) enjoy it's unique features. Until then, I guess it's an individual choice, either you throw down and subscribe, or wait it out. Good Luck Alganon. In today's MMO climate you will need it... |

I've struggled with this off and on for the past year or more. Real life has intruded more often than not (growing up & having children of your own will tend to reduce and/or eliminate online gaming.) But I've also felt that I've changed to the point where I'll just completely lose interest in games I love for a month or more. (LoTRO for example.) Recently I found some interest was rekindled when I was able to play for an afternoon with a friend. A very rare occurrence in my busy life. Other MMO gamers talk in terms of hours per week for their hobby but I measure in terms of hours per month. Sometimes as low as 4 hours, other times I may end up getting as many as 40. In a month. I would say there are as many causes for your problem as there are games out there. For some it's just that they've moved on in their lives. For others it's burnout. Still others may just no longer be satisfied with what's out there. Anyway, I would suggest as some others have done, take a sabbatical and play your favorite FPS or single player RPG for a while. For me it's been a combination of adventure games and sometimes an FPS where I can just kill bad guys, demons or aliens. Cliche: if it's becoming a second job it's not exactly a fun hobby anymore. Another cliche: definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. If you are trying 50 new titles and get the same result every time, it's time to take a break. Good Luck! |

Nice battle scene, and the female (elf? human?) mage is pretty good looking as well...um, in my opinion... :-) |

http://www.nexon.net doesn't seem to have a page on this game (or information in general) that I can find. Is there an actual Dragon Nest site up yet? |

All of this has been feedbacked to the Alganon team. A lot. These concerns were already in the beta community a month ago. The Alganon team's response has generally been they are committed to launching their MMO on Oct 31st and damn the torpedoes. I don't mean that in a negative way either. I think they need to launch it on the 31st for whatever their reasons are. Hopefully whatever state it's in is enough. I know that a week ago it was NOT enough, but maybe this weeks' patch helped. Anyway we're all kind of hoping this one succeeds in some form, sooner or later. The concepts are pretty unique and it would be a shame to see an MMO like this die an early death. Keeping fingers crossed. :-) |

That's the tradeoff you have for asking players to serve as beta testers. If the game is good, the word of mouth can propel the game to success right out of the gate. If the game is bad, however, the opposite happens.
It's a risk the developers take.
Realize, however, that most folks aren't saying "ditch the game". They're saying "get it right before you release" or "rethink your pricing model for a game that is far from ready". They have the game's future in mind.
QFT. I have been in the beta and LOVED the game concepts that Alganon advertised on its site. However, it really is not ready for release. It NEEDS more basic technical issues to get resolved, like its client, network stability, etc. Aside from that, the game engine is unstable with not just the "usual" bugs but serious game engine issues (like environment rendering.) In the beta there were multiple problems with logging in, such as 15 minute waits before the connection timed out etc. All of this was feedbacked to the developers and Alganon team. Those of us who voiced legitmate concerns were often told something equivalent to "we are dedicated to seeing this game succeed and either you are on board with us, or you're not." That's all well and good. I hope it DOES succeed. But if gamers have anything close to the login and other issues from beta they ARE NOT going to stay when there are too many other games out there that do not have these issues. We've pleaded, please wait for 6 months then this game would be in at least a playable late beta state (not its current alpha state.) For reasons of their own, they are going forward with it anyway. Good Luck Alganon. I hope you prove us wrong. |

Is there any real point to the OP's attempt to start a flamewar? If you are in the beta and have a reason for your opinion, good for you. You are still under NDA so can't post constructive criticism, so we get your...what was this exactly? A goodbye and fare thee well post? Alganon will launch on Oct 31st. They have stated that it's a go live, period. Let them stand or fall on their own merits. I have some comments to make myself, which I can once NDA is lifted. Before then, worthless flamerant.

To the OP: I've been there with testing 50 games to try and find one, just one to settle down with. Maybe your reasons are different than mine, but I followed almost every link I could on MMORPG to see if I could find that one. Like they might say in Kung Fu Panda, a great movie: it's just you. There is no secret ingredient. I tried to find it and failed every time. I went back to what drew me into online gaming in the first place. For me that was story, exploration and community. (Mostly.) I had mined out my previous MMO for 4 years and felt the well had run dry. Then I discovered two MMOs: LoTRO and Ryzom. I won't discuss LoTRO here other than to say that I, personally feel at "home" there for my own reasons. My other home is now Ryzom. MadSam and Nizur posted some reasons why I enjoy Ryzom but I have many of my own. When I'm in Ryzom, I just get a sense I am in a place that resonates with a sense of history and adventure. It is a world, not merely a space to play in. There are drawbacks to that of course, but as you've seen here, there are players who connect with that and enjoy it for what it is. If you are looking for that special something, what the French call a certain "I don't know what," from Ryzom you can find it, but only if you connect with it. You may or may not be able to do that. If you can find a way to absorb Atys and find elements you enjoy, you may be drawn in and want to stay for a while. If you want the WoW experience of course you will find that elsewhere. :-) Take your time and see what you can see. And let us know how it turns out. :-)

Their website has been the same since they announced the game. That is, a teaser trailer and that's all you get. Well okay, also a single game description page at the about link. A news feed with the last item dated July 2009. No news or communications of any other kind. I would say, throw this one in the oven till say January because I don't think you will see a lot of movement on this one till 2010. IMO |

What newer game has great Lore/Story?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/02/09 7:37:05 PM
Spellborn (whatever else you think of the game) has probably one of the most unique, in depth storylines I've seen in a long time. Allods (not released yet) also seems to have a very well established background history and a great story. |
