I'm with the guy who said if your choices are ESO or SWToR....go Rift.  Haha.  I am playing ESO right now, but Rift is free and one of the most polished MMOs out so it is no risk at all.
I have been playing Rift for about 3 years now and I still can't find anything that could replace it.  I played WoW for 5 years before Rift and got so sick of the cartoony graphics that when I tried Wildstar I couldn't play for more than a few minutes at a time without just wanting to turn it off.  For me, Rift is just the best of the themepark MMOs out there right now.
Is Rift Dying ?

These forums are saturated with haters and people who spend all day complaining and attacking any and every game out there.  If you don't join the bashing bandwagon you are called a fanboy and an attempt is made to dismiss your opinion.  That being said, it is not surprising to see people rubbing their hands together at the thought of any given MMO dying so that they can proclaim that it was bound to happen because the game was not designed for them and them alone.  Back to the point, I play Rift every day and the population seems very healthy, although I don't feel that it has ever received the popularity it deserves, mostly due to the underwhelming first impression it gives.  It truly seems to me to be the best of the wow clones though and it offers a highly polished version of every feature you could ask for.  The F2P model is the best I have ever seen and everything available seems like a bonus as opposed to SWToR, which feels as though the devs are bitter that they had to go F2P and are going to continue to beat you over the head and hold features hostage until you subscribe.  With Rift, I buy stuff here and there, maybe sub for a few months, play for free for a few months, whatever.  There is just no pressure to do anything but enjoy yourself.
As a PVP'er I have looked at GW2 more than once and asked myself what the point of PVP is on this game if there is no gear grind and nothing to really strive for.  Normally, gearing up and handing out some righteous justice to the gankers is my motivation to keep going on MMOs, but it seems that this doesn't exist in GW2.  Is that right?  Are there any PVP players out there that could comment?  I am looking for an MMO with decent PVP because I have been playing Rift since launch and need to take a break for a while.  GW2 is supposed to be a very good MMO, but I don't get into raiding.

So, can anyone tell me how the endgame PVP is in ESO?  I played the beta and liked it and have been following the game since then, but I would like some opinions on how the endgame PVP is.  Is it fun?  Is it anything like DAoC?

Just trying to decide if this is worth a buy right now or if I should wait until it comes out on the PS4.

Decent Graphics (zones more than the player models), great raids, solid dungeons, PvP (including an attempt at 3 faction), a pretty good housing system, one of the better class / build systems available, one of the better F2P designs....

Yet every time I jump back in, it's great for about two weeks then I suddenly lose all interest in playing.

You might just be bored with MMOs.  Sometimes taking a long break and coming back is the cure.

Really dude? Immersive? Impossible amounts of skill combinations? Biased is exactly what your post is.

I am with this guy.  If I don't agree 100% with a review then author is completely biased.

From what I have read, it seems that the points that go into crafting are the same points that you use to put into abilities.  Is this right?  So, if I make a crafter then I come up short in nuke power?  Could someone confirm this?  If that were the case, it seems like the only good alternative would be a dedicated crafter.

To the OP, well done.  I have already decided to play, but watching the video and hearing all of the good things the game has to offer just psyches me up for launch.

I believe they made the starting islands optional, now.  I honestly didn't mind them at all, but I will agree that they didn't really grab you all that much.  They could have spiced up the excitement a little, but I still enjoyed it.

What I really wanted to see was a ganker spec for my cleric.  I am sick of rogues popping out and getting me when I am not expecting it.  I need CLERIC STEALTH!!!  Then I would teach those little pukes a lesson!  Haha!

Are you sure?  I was just there a minute ago and they have cookies!

I still feel stealth classes should fill the role of scouting mainly.  They should also be at a severe disadvantage against real warrior classes and even against casters or such.  I think it should require 3+ stealthers to take down a normal fighting class, they should represent what they are, honorless and cowardly, not anything skilled.  Also they could potentially take down anyone 1v1 but it would require getting their target to stumble into several traps where they poison and weaken them to the point they could finish them off.

There is too much catering to the concept of ultimate assassin type who can dictate when, where, how a fight takes place and then does insane damage to pwn everyone, it is stupid really.

Exactly.  This has really been my main issue.  When a class has the unfair advantage of stealth, it should not also have insane burst.  There should be some sort of balancing factor that keeps a single stealther from being able to autokill everyone but a heavy tank.  This usually means that if you like to quest by yourself you are usually forced to play a stealther or a heavy tank that takes three hours to kill anything.

On the plus side, it seems like ESO has already addressed the problem to a large degree, both by separating PVP and leveling areas, and by giving everyone a stealth ability.  I was just curious if they would still be 1v1 gods in Cyrodil.

I always love the people saying it is unfair, and it's even funnier here in ESO.

Bottom line is everyone can sneak, so it's not in the least unfair. Every class has strengths and weakness, so should we all complain about and nerf things down? Either put on your big boy pants and deal with, and embrace that your own class has it's own strength, or stop griping about it. All this sounds like is "Ooohhh, I hate it happening to me, I just want to nuke someone down on my own terms."

Pre-mount I can see it being a bigger issue, but like most games, a standing stealther is going to have issues catching a mounted player, unless of course the mounted player is not paying attention, or does something silly.

Look, I think everyone hates getting ganked, and stealth is an easy target, but like an earlier poster mentioned, take a Bright Wizard in WAR, was he ganking because he did so much damage, or did he play to his strengths? (which admittedly could be considered OP)

Stealth is pretty well balanced here, and just about everyone is going to suffer a transit death or two, nature of the game. If you watch video's, you'll see plenty of Dragon Knights who started in stealth as well.

Nature of the genre.

There is a lot of what I like to think of as "strategic denying" that happens regarding stealth classes, whether because people don't want their class nerfed or because they prefer to think that they win because they are so awesome.  Being able to attack and drop someone to around 50% health before they can respond or even see you coming is an inherent advantage though, no matter how many ganker wannabes refuse to admit it.  And I say this as someone who plays stealth classes.

I will agree with you on two points though.  The first is that letting everyone sneak does reduce the advantage and the second is that stealth ganking has become the nature of the genre.

Its as if they look at the lore of the stealther that goes after weak targets and succeeds and just focus on making that work. Even though in a game its different since 1. balance is important and 2. the stealths target is not some weakling found in regualr lore but an actual hero other players play.

Stealth classes need more utility and less damage to make their class more than just pure damage. Of course following the trend of stealth damage is simple to balance and is what sells.

It reminds of WAR and how the fire mage was way over powered. Of course everyone would play one in pvp, and someone on the opposing faction would get pwned. Its a similar thing.

It seems that it is the trade mark easy pvp character that everyone goes for. So even though its not mentioned directly, anyone that does not role a stealth class is looking for a 'challenge', or to play with a handicap against stealthers. Its retarded, but that seems to be the logic if you want to even call it that.

Yes, this is prettymuch how I have seen it, as well.  The inherent unfair advantage of stealth becomes even worse when you apply all of the burst from stealth mechanics typical of most MMOs.  Even when I have been fairly effective at killing stealth gankers, I have found that I need an almost perfect string of countermoves, since even a slight mistake results in a severely lopsided death.

While ESO seems to have made an attempt at balancing this, I am still unsure if I will regularly find myself at 50% health and dropping before I am even able to respond.  If this is the case, I might as well just go Nightshade, since if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.  I would really prefer to be able to finally play a caster that isn't just free kills for any stealther that happens by, though.

I have been PVPing since the first week of DAoC and in every single MMO I have played I have tried to play the class I like and then been forced to switch to a stealther class because of the unfair advantage of stealth.  I have read the forums and there are those who constantly deny that stealthing is an unfair advantage, but when you have the option to attack an enemy without being seen first, you ALWAYS have an unfair advantage.  Throw in the incredible burst that is given to virtually every stealthier class and your enemy is half dead before they are even able to react.  I often find myself feeling sorry for my enemy while I am playing my stealther and wanting to strangle a dev when I try to switch to any other class.

Now that ESO is arriving I have been looking at stealth mechanics, since I am trying to determine if I will again be forced to choose between being the victim or the perpetrator, as usually is the case.  While all classes appear to be able to sneak and become invisible, it isn't clear to me how big of an advantage the Nightshade will have, nor whether his opening burst will make him a 1v1 god.

Does anyone have any information on this?  My favorite class is always a caster, but I am wondering if I won't again be forced to play the stealther just to neutralize the unfair advantage factor.

I suspect it will be P2P for a year or so and then go F2P, similar to SWToR.  That isn't necessarily a bad thing though, since the F2P transition gives the devs another shot at getting the game in front of people.  Don't forget some people will pay far more in the cash shops than a $15/month sub fee.

I am not crazy about full box price plus sub, but I will most likely buy it anyway.

I really enjoyed playing the beta and I have to respectfully disagree about the abondoned starting areas the author spoke of.  There were so many playing when I was on that I had problems with people snatching items I needed before I could get there.  This MMO could still use a little polishing, sure, but it feels like a AAA MMO to me with endgame PVP, which is what I have been waiting for since DAoC.  As long as that is as good as what I have seen so far, I am fully onboard.

I think people that frequent the forums are so used to complaining and seeing others complain that they often ignore all the good so that they can rage about a few minor issues.

I agree that people's expectations are shaping their views way too much on this game, when they should just be experiencing it the way it is before jumping to conclusions.  I am personally loving it, but the endgame PVP is what will make or break it for me.  The rest is just some polishing details.
I love it, although I'm waiting in an hour-long queue right now.  I am not a big Elder Scrolls fan, but this is still a definite buy for me.  Now, if they would just bring that price tag down a little.  It seems a little bit like a slap in the face, considering I can play Rift for free and it is also a great MMO.
